I think I'm eating too much...
MistyD65 replied to jorofan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! You are off to a great start! I've seen it pointed out before, and I believe it to be true, that we, as overweight people, mistake "stuffed" for "full". Having said that, since you are only 2 weeks post-op and have not had a fill, it is quite normal for you not to fill full yet. You said you are not hungry - THAT is what you are looking for, even more than being full. As you move to solid foods, you will find that they fill you up faster and stay with you longer. The mushies that you are eating will move through your pouch fairly easily. But solid Proteins and appropriate vegetables, fruits and grains, when you are okayed to eat them, are going to be your friends. Sherbet, unless it is low-calorie, is definitely going to be something you will want to cut out or limit severely. It is one of those "slider" foods - high carb, high sugar things that slip oh-so easily through the band. For the time being, follow the plan your doctor gave you, only eating the amounts recommended, regardless of whether you feel you can eat more or not. Keep notes for yourself about how long it is before you feel hungry again, and be on the lookout for head hunger. When I first started solid foods I would eat the amounts on the plan my nutritionist gave me. On the first evening I finished my meal and noticed that it had satisfied my physical hunger. But I still wanted MORE! That's the part the band isn't going to be much help with. But that's why we are all here on LBT - to help each other with the tough parts! -
Hi there! I had my surgery last week on the 23rd. It has been difficult but I feel in my heart that I have made the right decision. I am already down 13 pounds and that is very rewarding. The best liquid I have found is Carnation Instant Breakfast. I am not a milk drinker, have never liked milk but this is actually really good. My nutritionist recommeded it...good Protein. After surgery the docs want you to get a good amount of protein. The nice thing is they come in different flavors and I really like the chocolate. I mix it and then I blend it with ice and I really enjoy it and it really fills me up! But overall I live on Soups right now. Try different soups daily and you will soon find some that you really like. I am currently on broths or creamed soups as long as they are strained. I really like the creamy potatoe and broccoli cheese. At my large grocery store they have fresh soups made and they are really good. I know how you feel!!! Best wishes.. Anjie:smile:

hello everyone, i got banded on april 3rd and im on liquids but i seem to be hungry all the time. is this normal? any advice? thanks -
I asked my Dr. to write a RX for Aqua P.T. for core strengthening. I'm completing my 7th week and my back pain relief is remarkable. My Dr. thought that I just forgot how to use my stomach muscles and had to rebuild my core muscles so they could support my back more. Whatever the reasoning, my back pain has gone from a #8 to a #3. I'll take that any day of the week. I actually joined the pool so I can continue exercising in the Water until I feel that my back/core is strong enough to exercise in the gym itself. It's worth a try. Hopefully, it will work for you, too.

Hi folks! I'm doing a program called Couch to 5K which trains you to be able to run a 5k at the end of 8 weeks. I'm week 4, and can't believe that I can run a whole 5 min stretch! Never been able to before ever! However, I am noticing that my port area is tender after these runs. Am I doing damage, or am I stretching the muscles, or what? Any ideas? I am 4 months post op. I will ask my doc about it at my next appt in a week.

8 Weeks out and having a hard time eating
Purseynursey replied to charro535's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm in your boat too at 3 weeks. My pouch is very abnormal shaped because of my previous lap band and scar tissue. It's hour glass shaped and I'm having a terrible time. Let me know what your Dr says -
I had my fill and have been on liquids such as broth and tomato soups for weeks. No solids were going down with ease. I have not lost but 2 pounds. I figured if I was limited to food I would be losing something. I have continued to work out despite my lack of energy. It is very discouraging to not have the caloric intake and still not losing much. Last night was my first night eating a solid food. Ugh..... so discouraged....

I think one problem I am having is that I am forgetting to take my pain medication. I am not accustomed to taking anything, but I realize when I do, I feel much better. Duh. But please, if any of you have any words of advice, I'd sure appreciate it. It's all so new. This is the first surgery I have ever had. My surgeon, Dr Selim was just great. Anyway, for the most part I am not having any trouble with the 2 weeks of liquid. During weeks 3 and 4 I will be eating "soft mechanical" foods. I am a 51 year old female. I am single, self employed and am also a moonlighting musician (from time to time). I look forward to getting to know you all better. Many of you I feel like I know already as I have been reading the various threads for a couple of months. That said, I am so happy that I have finally gotten the lap band all in place. Mobility and cuteness, here I come! Fran

Meant 2 weeks

Hi. I'm 19 days and lost only 15 lbs. I think it really depends on your starting weight. I just hope to see more going down in next weeks, months and years. Sent from my SM-N960F using BariatricPal mobile app

Not sure how much you were expecting to lose in in 2 weeks before surgery but that's 1.28 pounds per day. I lost like 4 pounds before my WLS - on a freaking liquid diet. I mean seriously how is that even possible?! But it is what it is, now after surgery I have "good" weeks of losses and what I consider a "bad" week with loss of nothing or .2 gain. Bodies are weird, there is no real "normal" because everyone is so different. Just stick with your program as best you can - I think you're going to do great if you lost 18 before surgery. Just omg don't weigh yourself right after surgery and getting home. They pump you full of fluids. I don't think I weighed myself for 3 full weeks after surgery.

Gastric Sleeve Tom. Morn. (11/11/19) - Advice?
Sandra Nuelken replied to InterceptorNYC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Best wishes, while in the hospital blow in that blow thing to get lungs cleared. The first 2 weeks just sip on protein drinks. They will all taste horrible as you will immediately go into Ketosis and that makes everything taste bad. I just put a lot of ice in my Ensure plus and managed 3 a day. That will take all day. I also loved my Outshine pop cycles, no sugar added. I didn't add "full liquids" until the second week, that was cream of chicken soup, but not much as I was still drinking 2 Ensure Max a day. Wasn't until week 3 on soft foods. I did a lot of tuna in pouches, some flavored. Add foods slowly. I also bought a set of stainless children utensils to eat with. They are small enough to make you eat slowly. I'm now 3 months out and I'm still eating with them and will probably continue to do so forever. Just be patient, recovery takes time and so does the weight loss. You will have a high periods and some lows, some great weight loss and some stalls. But you will be successful! -
So I feel like I have stalled out-spent the last three weeks around the same weight. I have tried mixing it up with more exercise, etc but no luck. It has been 6 months since my surgery and I am worried that going so long eating too few calories has wrecked my metabolism. I have lost of lot of weight but I am afraid in the long run doing it on so few cals has slowed down my weight loss as my body thinks it is in the dreaded starvation mode. Is it possible to have a psychological block to further weight loss? It seems far more complicated than "calories in vs. calories out" when I review my history. I have tried increasing cals for a few days and that didn't work. Nor did being more restrictive and increasing the protein shakes. TIA for your insight and advice.

Any Nyu Bandsters Affected By The Blackout In Nyc?
secondchancesally posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I saw in the news they had to evacuate 215 patients from NYU. That's where I had my surgery last week? My 1 week follow up with esophogram was canceled because of hurricane Sandy. I'm so glad I'm fine post op day 9 because my team s banished from their hospital. -
Scared I might have ruined my sleeve experience
chilo1 replied to achopp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you've ruined your sleeve at all! I feel/know that I eat too much carbs, I try to stick to the good carbs but I find it difficult.I drink a lot of milk which contribute to my high carbs. I know that this is one of the reasons that I'm losing slower, I've lost about 22 pounds 5 weeks out, but as from today i am planning to get myself back on track, it's never too late, you're doing great! -
Surgery was 12/18 and I am down 37lbs total from the week before surgery. Sorry had to share because im so excited to go get new pants lol.

Almost into week 5, eating and drinking still hurts
Cari Dickenson replied to sparticus414's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I get a kind of pain too... it feels like I need to burp... So I make myself burp... It might be from swallowing air its like a heavy feeling in my chest area.... Doc said not to worry about it as well... Stick with soft foods for a week see if they help and try to make yourself burp... I never burped so much my entire life and Now I do it a lot... it makes the pain weird feeling go away... it happens when I drink liquids and not sip them... like a full mouth full...Mine isn ot especially painful.... So see if forcing a burp helps.... IT can't hurt to try... -

Almost into week 5, eating and drinking still hurts
sparticus414 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I feel this dull aching pain on my left side whenever I eat or drink. Sometimes it's so strong it is immobilizing. I can't get all my daily protein in or ever get out of a seemingly dehydrated state because I just can't eat or drink enough throughout the day. This is so discouraging. I'm not even straying from the diet one iota. I love eating less and feeing satisfied, but the pain while eating is not something I expected to this extent. Does anyone else experience this at this point? Does it get better? What can I do to help with the pain so I can at least get my daily limits in without hurting? -
First post here (I apologize for the length) so please bear with me. I have thought about WLS for 4.5 to 5 years now. In mid-2010, I went on a medically supervised WL program and over the course of 18 or so months, lost from 412.5 to 300.5 pounds by dieting and exercise (walking). At this point, I developed a very painful sciatic nerve flare up and had to quit walking. Also around this time, the program that I was on changed drastically (on the medical side) and I dropped out, lost my focus on dieting, and by early 2014 had regained around 70 pounds. I realized something had to change, and in early 2014 went to a WLS seminar and decided that VSG was right for me. It took me a while to get my nerve up to call the surgeon's office for an appointment, but I had my initial appointment with him in August 2014. The surgeon wanted me to lose 15-20 pounds (which I have lost about 10 or so). Also, my insurance wanted me to have 3-4 consecutive monthly visits with a Dr.'s office to weigh in for approval purposes. This has recently been completed and my PCP has written a letter of medical necessity to the surgeon. I have been in contact with my surgeon's office and advised them that I'm going to need another 4-6 weeks to try to lose the weight that he wanted me to lose. I had another flare up of my sciatic nerve over the Christmas holiday and it is slowly getting better, but I'm still not back to my usual walking routine. Another reason I'm delaying making the surgeon appointment is that I would like to join a gym and start exercising more than just walking. I would like to be in full exercise mode prior to the surgery so that I can hit the ground running immediately after I'm cleared to exercise post-op. The only discussions that I've had with my wife about the surgery is that I told her that I scheduled an initial consultation and I discussed with her what the Dr. said during my initial visit when I got home. She does not support my decision to have the surgery and is opposed to it. She is also obese and doesn't want to make any changes in her lifestyle. I find it difficult to talk to my wife about a lot of things, WLS is just one of the many. I know I need to do this for myself and my health due to a number of comorbidities that I currently have. I'm still frustrated and apprehensive over the WLS surgery and the changes that I know that I'll need to make in my life for it to be successful. I do think about the surgery almost all the time and what my life could be like 125 to 150 poounds lighter. There is a support group 3 or 4 miles from where I work that I have not attended due to the time of the day that it is held. Are there any suggestions or words of encouragement that I can solicit from the forum users? Thanks in advance!

I was on Nexium before my surgery 12/19. My reflux gradually has come back. Last week I call my surgeon and his nurse said take Tums. Since then I am eating up to ten a day. I called the on call surgeon today and He says go ahead and start back with my Nexium. Him not being my doc I was just a bit concerned that capsules would be ok as I'm just on full liquids still. I do start purée Wednesday.

Im a little concerned that I'm not getting enough intake. I had my surgery three days ago and I've only had 3 bottles of water and 2 protein shakes. I'm not hungry or anything just worried.
