    Hello and thank you

Thank you all for your encouraging words. I appreciate all of your comments and questions. pf337-I didn't have a set presurgery diet. My doc just said try to eat low cal/fat free for a couple weeks leading up to the surgery. I had written guidelines and sample diets for each phase after surgery. As for now, the written material I have simply says to eat 3 ounces of lean meat/protein with a couple tablespoons of vegetables and a couple tablespoons of starch to be eaten in the order of meat/vegetable/starch until completed or full. I can't eat everything so starches are few and far between. My only problem is that at work it is tempting to "grab and go" just whatever I can, so fighting the urge to eat whatever junk that is lying around is a battle I still face every day. WasABubbleButt-No, I didn't have a spinal. It wasn't even offered. I wouldn't have taken it anyway. I was given a spinal for my knee surgery(rugby injury) and had difficulty urinating for about two weeks. I came out of recovery at about noon and was making laps on the floor at 1:30 pm. I would have been out of recovery sooner but the dilaudid kicked my butt! The nurse kept reminding me to breathe deep until my O2 sat stayed up on its own. I was discharged the next morning at 10 am. I'm thankful everything went as well as it did.

    plateau help needed

I was banded on 6.29.09 and from my heaviest I am down 105 lbs. and down about 80 since surgery. I am more than thrilled with all that has left me and that I have never gained an ounce on this journey and I have been on one difficult journey. Two months after surgery my husband developed a staph infection on his foot that would not heal. Between 9/09 and 4/10 he was hospitalized 7 times with staph, MRSA, sepsis, silent heart attacks that resulted in having agents placed and multiple toe amputations due to the above infections. Of course once each and every specialist gave him a clean bill of health, my spouse of 34 years passed away on the evening of the last day of school, in the middle of a conversation with me. That certainly was not the way I pictured starting my summer break. Fourteen months later I had disc surgery in my neck, eight months after that a hip replacement ( on 2 yr anniversary of husband's death) and eight months later thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. Since my hip replacement last June my weight has basically stayed the same even with a fill. I think I maybe down 5 lbs in the year. I have changed nothing except walking more each day! I want to go for at least 20 lbs more...even with surgery #4 scheduled for 6.21.13! I need ideas, suggestions ...help! I am beyond frustrated now to the point that cake and chips are looking good and they never were on my favorites list!

    R U In Pain 19Days Post Op?

19 days & still have discomfort. Today's the 1st day I haven't felt the need to take my pain medicine, which has usually been late afternoon. I kinda felt like a sissy, but have read people are just different. Sometimes it's achy above my belly button, sometimes it's time a pulling where my incisions are. It was 2 weeks before either pain would allow me to sleep on my side. Now, in just doing Advil for soreness & try not to do too much.

What Are You Eating One Month Post Op?

Hi everyone !! I found something else that will satisfy your crunch need and yet melt into nothing for your pouch !!! Special K makes cracker chips, I just tried the Southwest Ranch and they are awesome.... I only ate about 10 and that was good. A serving is 27 chips for 110 calories, 2.5g fat, 1g Sugar, 2g protein. It really satisfied my crunch need !!!
  9. I am coming up on 1 year. It was more hard in the first few weeks /months than it is now. New habits are formed. New eating techniques, food choices, going to the gym, etc. Practice makes perfect! It becomes a normal day to day way of life. I am being totally honest when I say there are days I don't even think about the band. Weight loss has slowed, but I am within 10 lbs of my goal. As long as I am not gaining and still moving in the same direction.

Is This Rate Of Weight Loss Normal For A Guy?

That must be another guy thing - I was pushing 900-1000 calories within a couple of weeks, though I was able to move some semi-real foods at that time and not just liquids (doc was adding veg to the diet at the 10 day mark because protein consumption was more than adequate at 90g.)
  11. I was banded 9/29, 2 weeks and 5 days ago. I'm having trouble getting in enough Water. I don't know what to eat. Have started trying some things, carefully, and slowly. Haven't had any problems, but just couldn't take mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs and pintos & cheese, anymore! And I'm not losing!!!! Dr's office said you're not suppossed to right now, this is the month for healing, but it's frustrating just the same. I eat way less then I used to and the scale won't budge, even gained 1 lb back after starting soft stuff. I get my 1st fill 10/28, but I wish I could be losing a little by then. Dr's office suggested low carb diet, so as not to gain back what I've lost, 6 lbs preop, and 6 lbs postop minus the 1 lb I've gained back. :tt1: Now stuck. Lst week was my 1st week back at work, 12 hour shifts as a NICU nurse. So I got through that. Guess now I'll try to start walking. Maybe that will help. Thanks for "listening". Just frustrated. Feeling good though. :tongue_smilie:

    A little bragging

Hey guys, So, today has been one week since my surgery and 3 weeks since I started my liquid Optifast diet to get ready for surgery. In the 3 weeks since I started the liquid diet, I'm down 29 pounds. I also had lost 10 pounds prior to starting Optifast by trying to make some of the changes recommended by the dietitian, which means I'm down 39 pounds from my all time high wait from July of 304 pounds. I'm no longer using my CPAP machine, and I'm no longer morbidly obese. I know that I still have a long road ahead of me, but right now I feel like I am envisioning a life that I truly never thought I would have again. I'm actually even thinking of trying to train to run a marathon-eventually. It only gets better from here! Thanks for letting me brag. Bryan:thumbup:
  13. I had my surgery yesterday 11/13. I am home today and had a painful bout of muscle spasms in my right side. Last about 10 minutes but was pretty painful. Any suggestions on keeping this from happening again?! Is this normal?
  14. I'm 4 days out. On my list I can have yogurt like lemon light and fit dannon, thinned cream of wheat, in addition to of course, protein shakes and other liquids. So I took about a half cup of this vanilla ice cream which is totally melty because I'm having it so slowwwwwly. Honestly because of the 10 day pre-liquid diet this is the best thing I've had in 3 weeks. Question, how fast will I know if it isn't a wise choice? Will I possibly get diarrhea or nausea later. I seem to be tolerating it so well but of all the horror stories I'm not sure when I'd be out of the woods so to speak. Did anyone have this in the very beginning? So far I had 2 protein shakes (totaling 65 grams of protein today), some water and this. Thanks!

    One Week Out..

My sister is 3 yrs post op & still can't. Me on the other hand, 10 month post op & never could, can now like a drunken sailor!!
  21. Well, I started out good with a very yummy less-than 300 cal, hi-pro, low-fat, veg breakfast. I came up with it on the fly so I thought I would share: 1/2 c Egg Beaters 1/4 cup chopped bell peppers 1/4 c sliced raw mushrooms 1/2 chopped green onion 1/2 cup leftover spinach/pine nut/garlic mix (I got this at the Market Street Deli. But you can just add fresh spinach, a little garlic, and a little red pepper to taste. If you have pine nuts, add 'em. If not, it's no big deal) Mix all in a microwave take-and-go container with a lid. Lightly place the lid on top but don't latch it. Cook in microwave for 2 minutes. Then, take out and mix. Cover and let sit. The egg mix will continue cooking in the steam while you pop 2 morningstar farms veggie breakfast patties (tastes like mild sausage patties) in the micro for two minutes. I was tempted to add cheese but I decided to try it first. It was awesome even without cheese! You can also add tomatoes and a spoonful of plain greek yogurt (which tastes like sour cream) Cal: 231 Carbs: 14 Fat: 10 Protein: 33! Now, I am going to get cleaned up and try to find something to do with myself and the family today that involves exercise. Maybe I will break my "no more plus-size clothing" rule and buy a new bra at the mall. Since I hurt my shoulder, I can't fasten them in the back anymore. I am tired of hunting down my husband to fasten them for me or going bra-less half the time. It's time for a front-loader, I think.

    UGH! Slippage!

I was banded in 2006 and have lost 100 pounds. Recently (Dec.to current), I gained about 8-10 pounds back. After seeing primary dr. and gyn and lots of blood work, no change. My primary dr. said to exercise more. I was doing 30 min walking 4x's per week and weights 2x's. I dilligently began to walk 6 days a week for 40 min. This has been awful for my knees and fibromyalgia, but went on anyway. No weight loss at all! Last week I went for an upper GI. Findings were band is seen, but NO SMALL POUCH! Going to see my surgeon Friday. Any feedback
