Introducing myself -SIPS revision from sleeve in 2019
ChunkCat replied to SunnyG's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am so glad they recommended you for revision!! It is sad that a lot of insurance companies have a "one bariatric surgery per lifetime" clause, or will cover revisions but make it near impossible to qualify for them. The sleeve surgery is the first stage in a classic DS surgery, it should always be up for revision to a DS/SADI if the results from it aren't lasting! I had a modified traditional DS done on November 1st. I'm so happy I did it. My diabetes and high blood pressure went into immediate remission. My weight loss has been slower than I'd like, but that isn't unusual for a DS because we lose for a lot longer than other surgeries (if we are lucky!). Your sidebar says you are pre-op, you should adjust it so it shows you post-op! How are you feeling?? I've heard the recovery from revision from sleeve to SIPS is not too bad since they don't normally touch your sleeve again unless it was improperly done the first time. Do they still have you on a strict post-op diet progression? I look forward to seeing how your weight loss goes, revision patients to this surgery usually do well! It just goes a little slower than before. ❤️ -

⭐Review of Revisions to RNY
GreenTealael replied to GreenTealael's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
*I'M NOT A SURGEON* But it appears the sleeve was separated into 2 sections (1 connected to the esophagus/ 1 connected to the duodenum) but also then the Surgeon decided to resect more of the sleeve (connected to the esophagus) to get the proper shape and size for the revision. This person may have had a longer stomach than usually, or this may be common practice. I sure wish sometimes that we had a resident surgeon on the site to ask questions... -
February 2022 Surgery Buddies

I am a few days away and so excited and nervous all at the same time. Thank you all for sharing and keeping us updated. It helps so much for us who are waiting and have questions. My surgery is a revision from sleeve to bypass due to Hiatal Hernia which my surgeon will repair, GERD and never getting to goal with some weight gain. 2017 HW 284 I’m 5’3 LW after sleeve 194 after I juiced for three days to break the 200’s. Then two years ago I gained up to 224 and I turned vegetarian. Got down to 187. Then COVID hit. I have gained and lost the same 30 lbs for the last few years. Now my current weight is 225. My revision is set for Thursday, 2/17. I am hopeful all my efforts will get me to goal this time. I’m scared to end up the same. Wish me luck. -

band to sleeve revision 5/17/16 - pain when consuming liquids
DeeDee40 replied to deckthhall's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision on May 17 2016, also from band to sleeve. I can drink fluids but I have to do it slow (like a turtle), so I'm doing it every hr almost, to get fluids in. Can you try that method.? We both are only 5 days postop, and everyone says it will take time. Hope you feel better! -
Revision from Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass-due to acid reflux?
ren0318 replied to ren0318's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Ortego07, thank you for your reply! I'm having problems responding directly to responses. How far into your sleeve were you when you had your revision? Also did you lose more weight? How long were you off work? What about hospital stay? Sorry for all the questions! Thanks Ren Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
I had that after my gall bladder removal. Got a little better each day. HW- 273 Lapband SW- 258 (5/5/17) Revision SW- CW- 251 GW- 140

Hey there fellow bariatric pals. I am looking for advice or anyone with similar experience. I have GS March 2014 with top weight of 250 at 5'6" BMI 41. I lost about 55 lbs which my lowest weight has never exceeded about 185. (Goal weight about 165) So, at this time, I have gained back some weight and am at 200 lbs. So about 15 lbs back again. My doctor recommended perhaps having the Duodenal Switch/Revision to continue to take more weight off. But, I really only need to lose about 30-35 lbs. I am afraid that I will get under 160 lbs and be too thin. Has anyone had the DS after the sleeve? Still researching and trying to make the best decision. Thanks to all for your time to read and comment. NY1966

Hi!! Im Carlene i Don't know where to start
krtork replied to BandMeHardAndFast's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The band goes around your stomach (on the inside) to make the pouch so you can't eat as much. So yeah, you would need surgery. You should look at all WLS options before making a decision. So like Pooly said, you might want to look into the RNY - that would help you get over the Reese's because you would dump when you ate sugar. I don't know much about that, I have the band, but it doesn't sound fun! If you were to get the band it is with you for awhile. You wouldn't want to get the band and have it removed one month later - that would be another surgery. So, again, you should look at all the WLS options before making a decision and having to have some sort of revision. -
Wannabthinagain's journey
general_antiope replied to wannabthinagain's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Wannabe - congrats on finding your doc! I would have added the question "What is your revision clause" to the list. If a scar needs revising or if anything goes wrong whatsoever. Some docs have a 1 year revision, etc. Where they will not charge you to fix it, though you may need to pay hospital charges. I'll be staying at a hotel the second night after my surgery, too, to make sure there's no complications. I agree with you, it's a smart move! March will be here before you know it!! -
Medical Bracelets
Pookeyism replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think the question was aimed at long term wearing - but the extended time that our stomach is still subject to heal. I think I have decided againt it, but if you are a lapband or plication to sleeve revision that suffered damage, or you have had a leak, etc. OR PREGNANT - perhaps a bracelet that gives a contact number rather than the typical bracelet. Thing is I know everyone wants to be normal, but for now a new sleeve is sooo not normal. I can see several scenarios that a bracelet could save your life. Perhaps one of thedog collars, do drop under your clothing? My diabetes bracelet was actually an italian charm. I often wondered if anyone would even notice, lol. I would suggest you make an ICE on your phone that puts info on meds and such in a contact info note. I have always had that. -
Boy how time flies! Scheduling my revision has been such a whirlwind of "ta dos" and now... here I am thinking I will be sleeved on April 1st! It's just around the corner and I am excited... scared... worried... hopeful... and a million other emotions! I will be so glad to have my Lapband removed... especially the port as it has bothered me for 9 long years. I pray that my journey to Mexico and my surgery with Dr. Aceves both go as planned!

Anyone Use Dr. Nusbaum In Nj?
newstartme replied to mysunflower621's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi! I am also a patient of Dr. Nusbaum. I had the sleve in my country Colombia. The dr is great and his team excellent. I Am schedule nov 18th for a revision. Wanda is excellent i had to fight with Cigna for 6 months to approve the surgery And Wanda fought for me! I cant wait to finish what started. -
I'm also going through the hoops to get revised to a sleeve. I've been having issues with my band since last year and started the process a few months ago. I've had all of my meetings, but am waiting for the weight center to send approval to the surgeon. I'm getting tired of waiting. In the meantime, I've been having pain and pressure when I swallow. Need this stupid thing out!

refilling after years
Ready_4_Change🐝 replied to Awkward customer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I also had my band put in in 2010. After a year (exactly a year a week) and abysmal weight loss (@25lbs) my doctor discovered my tubing had kinked. He said he needed to go back in to fix it but it happened right after the bliss insurance expired (it is only for 12 months) and I was a cash purchase becuase my insurance doesn’t cover it. He could some how massage my abdominal wall and manipulate tube and get it to fill, but it was always a chance it wouldn’t work. And he wouldn’t fill too much because he was worried he wouldn’t be able to go in and let some out if the kink got worse. Then one day I noticed I would choke/vomit up everything solid, mushy and liquid. I even tried just sucking on ice cubes to stay hydrated. Nothing worked. Ended up at emergency room, doctor was called and greatly reduced band fill. Told me to get upper gi to check for damage and see him in three weeks. He forgot to leave script, came in mail about week later. When I called to schedule my appointment for upper gi a few days later (I was in no hurry since he wouldn’t refill for at least 6 weeks) I was told there was a problem with the script and to call doctor back for correction. When I called back I found out my surgeon had left for a tour with doctors w/o borders to Sudan. WTH. Went to a new recommended doc for a fill in a couple months after and she couldn’t fill it because of the kink. so here I am 8 years later and ready to start again with fills not even knowing if it will work. I called a new surgeon to make an appointment yesterday. I of course haven’t told them about the kinks or my upper gi appointment. That never came to pass. I would prefer a revision, but Medicare will not pay for revision unless there is a problem. Best case scenario is the kink worked it’s self out, it with additional weight gain I doubt it. Or next best for me is there is a band problem and Medicare will pay for revision. It’s kind of sad that my second best option is hoping for problems. Sorry for the length. I just know this is one group of people who understand the frustration. Sorry this was so long. -
I do not understand why, unless there are complications, a surgeon would put a patient through two procedures. Especially at your low weight! I had the Band to Sleeve revision on May 17th. All in one day. My band was a nightmare from the very first week in 2005. I vomited for 12+ years nearly ever time I ate. Never kept a fill. Rotated port. Scar tissue. Terrible pain. You name it, I went through it...and accepted it because I was too busy to do something about it. This sleeve has changed everything. Immediately. No return of reflux. My giant port scar tissue tumor is gone. And recovery was a breeze. The nightmare is OVER!

Band to sleeve success question....
Sweettart702 replied to luvzpitbullz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's so reassuring to read threads like this one. I had Lapband in 2009, revision surgery in 2010, then had it removed in 2012. I have since regained the 90 pounds I lost with the Lapband and just anxiously awaiting my sleeve! -

I am having revision on March 27 2015 -
Thank you for your words of encouragement! Sorry about your reflux, I can definitely say that the revision has completely corrected that issue for me, I wish you luck and hope all goes well. As far as my protein intake, I think I have been managing fairly well especially last week. Since I knew I was going to overexert myself I upped my protein and even reached 100g a couple of the days. I am still early on so I am limited on what I can/cant eat and I am terrified of dumping so I have stayed away from carbs and sugar altogether.

Insurance approved band removal but denied revision to sleeve
kgarrettsatx posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
At first i was upset cuz now i have to pay $14,500 for the sleeve revision in the same surgery. Shouldnt there be somewhat of a discount since im already under anesthesia and ins is covering that? Anyway. Trying to see it as glass half full. Paying will give me more of an incentive to follow the rules and be successful since im investing hard earned money. Potential July 18th surgery date!!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Hi Everyone! Is anyone still out there? It's been almost 5 years since we were banded! I have a confession to make....I came back to the site today just to make sure I'm not the only one still hanging in there. Are you all still doing well, or have complications arisen, and bands come out? Don't get me wrong, the last 5 years has certainly had its ups and downs....in life and on the scale. However, I figured as long as I have this thing and it's not hurting me, I should take good care of it. Over 2011, I gained about 20 pounds. I was just being lazy and having a good old time. I'm in grad school, I started a new job, and just otherwise enjoyed the heck out of some Mexican food. I decided I wanted to make it my goal to be "normal", so on 1/4/12, I joined Weight Watchers. I didn't go get a fill--- a lot of times I feel like having noticeable restriction in the band is just so tiring. I wanted to see it if I could do it at the level of restriction I was at. Well, As of today, I've lost 30 pounds. I'm 10 pounds below my initial goal weight, and am 5 pounds from being "normal." For the past 12 weeks, I've been going to the gym 5 days a week. I'm doing Zumba, Body Combat, and the GGX Challenge--all at Gold's Gym. I'm counting points on Weight Watchers and only occasionally get the "reminder" from my lap band that I'm crossing the line. Ultimately, I just want to see if there's anyone else out there. I almost feel GUILTY that I've made this band work for me for 5 years now. I see a TON of people who have had complications and have gotten removals or revisions. How are you guys doing after almost 5 years?
