You have gotten some great advice. Sip, sip, sip, and sip some more. Staying hydrated and getting in all of your Protein should be your primary focus right now. Also, be sure to walk and move around. Follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your protein and fluids every day. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise when cleared. Walking is a great way to start. Also, as @@Babbs mentioned, none of us lose at a constant or predictable rate, but most of us experience our first stall about three weeks post-op. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. Follow your program and weigh infrequently if the numbers on the scale mess with your head. And, Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall

Just curious...has anyone been diagnose with stomach ulcer since surgery. If so, how was it treated? I'm almost 1yr post op and attended a 1yr post op support group class on Wednesday. The RN really focus on things to eliminate after WLS. The top three are smoking, drinking alcohol and caffeine.

Hi all I was banded on April 22nd and have had a very hard time lately trying to stay active. All I want to do is sleep because I feel weak. I take my multivitamins and calcium supplements daily. I was wondering if this is normal or has anyone experienced this? Not to mention I've been non stop cycling since the day of surgery which was odd because I had my TOM a week before surgery. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

It will really depend on your own body's response to the surgery. I had off 3 weeks and I can tell you the first two I was not ready to go back. I had a lot of pain and struggled to get up out of bed by myself or up out of a chair. I only had tylenol with codiene for pain so not sure if it just wasn't enough for me or what. The last week was good to have as I transitioned to mushy food and it gave me a chance to practice that. Also, I am 61 so I am sure that had something to do with it.

Lost the first week, now 6 weeks later just maintaining...normal?
2muchfun replied to mrsmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It really bites to go 4 months(in my case) and watch so many other dropping 40-50 lbs(and still complain). LOL You haven't filled out your profile so I don't know your situation? But mine was I was a low BMI patient. So I only had about 12 lbs of excess Fluid to lose. Many folks who are 200 lbs obese, can drop 50 lbs of excess Water their fat has stored. This kind of weight falls off first and may give someone the illusion they'll continue to lose 5-10 lbs every week. Not going to happen. Once you drop the excess fluids you start working on the stored fat. Exercising is very very important if you want to be successful. Walking is good but biking, hiking, tennis, aerobic activities work best. -
Leener... The week I had surgery I said how much the band was helping me and after going through all of the surgery stuff and paying cash, there is no way I would screw it up by eating bad, Right? WRONG. The head hunger is the worst. We can only do the best we can do at any given moment. My DH has been so supportive, but asked me to bake him a white cake so he could have it with his fresh strawberries. No problem! I ate 1/2 the cake! He won't be asking for cake anytime soon LOL Just don't through in the towel on a piece of cake. Excersise extra and next time don't pick up the cake! You can do it!

Congrats on getting your surgery! I recommend: -definitely 24/7 help! For the first week at the minimum -thick maxi-pads (these are cheaper than the ABD pads they put on you after surgery and your wounds will weep for few days, plus they are absorbent too!) -LOTS of antibiotic ointment!! I'm talking like multiple tubes of it! And I found it to be cheaper if you get the target/Walmart/dollar store brands. Can't even tell you how much of this goop I've used in the last 6 months!! Haha -LOTS of non-stick pads. These are kind of like gauze pads, but they will not stick you incisions when they are trying to scab up. I used these once the majority of the draining was gone. And just like the antibiotic ointment, cheaper at Walmart/target/dollar stores. -an extra abdominal binder. It will get dirty and you have to (and most like will WANT to keep it on for at least the first 4 weeks), it was nice to have a spare while washing the other -female urinal would be nice, but not a necessity (I only wish I had one after my tummy tuck--thank god my doctor put in a catheter for the first night!!, but I really needed after my thigh-lift) -maybe prepare a couple of frozen meals ahead of time so you don't have to worry about cooking for a few weeks Good luck! Can't wait to read about your results! -
That is awesome! I hope I'll be able to say the same when I have my surgery next week. Besides getting in all your water and protein (good job!) :thumbup1: any advice to help make post-op a smoother ride?

This pre-op diet stinks. Major whine
abefroman329 replied to melsabells's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, it does stink. I had a couple of 24-hour periods in the last week before surgery where I took a break and ate regular food. But my surgeon said that patients tell him the pre-op diet is the hardest part of surgery, and he’s absolutely right. -
My Surgery was on Dec 4th and I still have pain... Mine hurts when I walk so I started wearing a girdle about 2-3 weeks ago and it makes a big difference. I can at least get through the day without grabbing my stomach when I walk which for me was weird because only three people know I've had the surgery and so I can't just go walking around holding my stomach.... My Daughter noticed once and I told her I had gas but I don't think I could get away with that story every single time I see her... Good Luck... Not sure when the pain will stop... Mine is still present when I don't wear the girdle...

ongoing weight loss after 24 months?
SuperMom replied to nerval's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is just me....but if I ate that many carbs I would not loose weight either. Before you go and let them do that other surgery.....try eliminating the carbs and see what happens. Are you getting 80 grams of Protein in a day? I am just asking because I know if I fill up on the carbs (rice, bread, pasta) there is no way I get the protein in. The protein is what keeps you feeling full longer (or for me anyway). A day's menu for me goes something like this: Breakfast 2 poached eggs Snack String cheese lunch Baked chicken breast and green Beans Snack Nutts (pecans walnuts peanuts and NOT the honey coated kind dinner Baked fish and some kind of veggie (i avoid corn and carrots) like field peas, green peas Late night - if I have not gotten enough protein in I add a Protein Bar or unjury chicken broth (20 grams protein) So far the weight is coming off 3-4 lbs a week for me. Just thought you might want some diet to compare to. Good luck in whatever you decide. -
How Long Before First Fill. No restriction before that?
Thrillrod posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the middle of my first week, so I am a ways away, but what is the average time before your first fill? Do you have any restriction before your first fill? What I mean is that once you're back to your regular diet and before the first fill, are you still capable of eating anything you want with no consequences? (besides no weight loss) My other question is this. If you are still losing weight at a decent rate when its time for your first fill, do they postpone it until your weight loss has stopped? -
What was your first post-op meal?
Bryn910 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had 1 ounce of tuna. Had 3 week liquid diet post op & then transitioned to soft foods; no puréed stage nor full liquids -
Why only one fill? It seems like you should have had a few more by now. Don't worry about not having restriction with your current fill level, you obviously need more fill. In fact, be proud that you haven't gained because the band isn't working at all for you yet! My surgeon had me going in every few (3to 4) weeks for fills until I achieved restriction, so don't delay, give them a call and schedule a fill. You are in "bandster hell"- The period of time without restriction. So cut yourself a break. I always recommend the South Beach Diet to people in your situation because it does a great job of controlling hunger and it is very band friendly. (you can even lose weight on it, gasp) Also work on distracting yourself with nonfood activities that you enjoy, like reading, crafts, time with friends, etc. It will help to make this time go faster. Good luck and feel free to contact me with any questions. I'm four years out and have "seen it all..."

Banded June 5- Down 47 Lbs Since Surgery But Frustrated
jayro23 replied to shellvw's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was also banded in June and have lost 45 pounds since surgery. I too am kind of stuck right now. My weight has been bouncing around for the last 3 weeks instead of constant loss. Maybe this is normal? I guess our bodies are in shock at first and then it gets used to the much smaller amount of food? I suddenly can put down way more food than I should be able to. I am hoping that when I get a fill next week things will change. I'm watching my calories closer and hitting the gym hard! I signed myself up for Warrior Dash in April. Bring it! We can do this!!!!!! -
I'm a lower BMI person and I don't relly believe that has everything to do with how you heal. I didn't have any complications from the surgery, just some of the uncomfortable stuff that follows surgery and I wasn't ready to go back to work for a week and a half. The anesthesia really knocked me out and I felt sleepy for a week, aside from the other stuff. Good luck to you!! Give yourself the time you need to heal!

Should I Lose Before Surgery Or Not?
Kiki Von Moonshine replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My doctor doesn't require a two week diet. Foxbins cleared it up for me with the example she provided. Thanks all. -
Just an update......not once in 9 weeks did my surgeon's office call to follow up on the insurance process, and since I've received my copy of the rejection letter that was sent to their office (6 days) they haven't even called me to notify me or to follow up on it. Oh, and I forgot to mention that they have tried twice to bill me for office visits that were already paid for! I had proof that they were paid! Needless to say, I have already scheduled my appointment with a new surgeon. My only issue with this is that he will probably try to talk me into the RNY. It's not what I want, but at this point I will probably do whatever the insurance company allows. I can't spend another year at this weight..................

I know it's been awhile, and I am ashamed that I haven't gotten farther than I have. I switched Doctor's to one that will be more aggressive about getting my thyroid under control, but other than that I haven't done much! I started my spring semester this week :nervous the semester is 6 weeks, and there is just so much to do, I dont think college will ever be normal, its always going to overwhelm me!!! But its no excuse I need to get going with my surgery.

Hi I'm new and just banded 3/27/09
Angela Smith replied to EJcrew33's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi my name is Angela I'm 36 and going for my first fill this week. I had my surgery in Mexico and they were great to me and my husband. -
I just got back from my first post-op apptointment....all went well and I can move forward to mushies for one week and then a regular diet. But heres my question. I can either have my first fill on March 26, but I am leaving on a cruise on May 4. That will give me 1 week to adjust to my first fill.....is that enough time? If I don't get the fill on the 26th I won't be able to get it until May 17. I think I would like to have it done on the 26th....but I wanted those that have already went through the first fill to let me know if I am pushing it. The dr was ok with giving it to me early because he said I have done so well with post-op. But he wanted me to think about it first. So fellow bandsters......would you please think for me!---haha I know we are all different, but being that its just the first fill.....it seems like the majority on here but feel anything after the first one....so it doesn't seem like it would be a big deal.--And if for some reason it was a mistake I would still have several days to go back and have the Fluid removed before the cruise.

Are THESE the gas pains - Day 5 of banding
daisybug replied to thughes113's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My gas pains lasted for two weeks. I had the SHARPEST pain inside my left shoulder. It felt like i was being stabbed with a knife. I used gas-x and it helped a little, but mostly I was told to MOVE. The more you walk, the better. WALK WALK WALK ,, the more you move, the better. Even little frequent trips around your home. Hope it goes away fast for you!!! 278/232/180
