  1. I think I am eating about 1/2-3/4 cup of food at a meal. Is that to much?
  2. Hello- I'm a high school special education teacher, but I work in a private school for students with significant disabilities. My goal is to have surgery in March and I'm planning on taking 3 weeks off, but will have to be on light duty after that with not lifting or restraining students (we have students with major behaviors as well). My school is planning on getting a sub so there will not be any pressure to return if I am not ready! Kate
  3. Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum glad to be a member. No sure if it's women only, the colors seem to be aimed at women. Anywhoo.. just wanted to share my experience. Using both the surgery and the supplement I lost around 55 lbs and I'm still slowly losing more and more each week. The sleeve went amazingly and I was VERY VERY happy with my results. My doctor is one of the best in Canada so I felt really confortable with the process. Anyways just wanted to share my story.. hopefully I can add something to your great community. Thanks for reading Dean

My request was just sent Thursday 3/20/2014. The gave a "dummy date" of April 22nd. The doctors office said I should expect to wait four weeks for approval. It sounds like no one has had to wait that long. I wonder if I still have to wait until April 22nd if I get approved this week.
  6. I had my sleeve on May 7th, 2014. To my surprise it has gone really well. I did not have any pain medication until I got ready to leave the hospital. And there after really had no need for any. And believe me I am not one for pain. I have 5 small incisions that were covered with a glue type sealant. My doctor gave me a prescription of a cream for the scar that was for pain and another for the scar to heal better. I have B12, prilosac, Iron , Calcium caltrate, and Vitamin d. I think I am most impressed with the lack of pain. I do find it hard to scarf down 60 grams of Protein because it is almost like my stomach crittles up when I drink something. I don't have a lot of energy either probably because of the lack of protein. But just curious what kind of Soups you eat in week 2. I am big Bisque eater. I love mushroom bisque, tomatoe bisque, lobster and crap bisque, etc? Also I WAS (Lord, knows if I will be now) a BIG Mexican food eater could eat it Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Has anyone had any trouble tolerating Mexican food? Any other tips for post op? Starting Weight 236.2 Surgery Weight 228.6 Current Weight: ?
  7. I hAve been waiting for this week since this journey Began 2 months ago! I am one pound from my first big scale victory. I can not wait to work my butt off this week to see that 1 on Sunday. Loving my sleeve and all the great things it is doing for me!!
  8. Hi, I was banded with the Realise band on Aug 13, 2008. I was thrilled to see a thread here for this band. I was worried I was on the wrong site. I go for my first fill next week. I'm a little nervous, but excited. I am loosing a little right now, but am feeling hunger more than I thought I should. I am trying hard not to snack, but it's really hard!! Well, wish me luck!! Steri-Strips

My steristrips stayed on for 2 whole weeks and when I went to the doctor the nurse said "I dont know why they tell you not to take these things off before 2 weeks...they harbor so much bacteria!" and they pulled them off and I was healed. I had one nurse tell me to leave them on until they fall off and the other to tell me when they start peeling up at the edges to go ahead and take them off.
  10. Has this happened to anyone else. My surgery was all set. Pre-op is tomorrow. Dr. Mejias office called THIS morning... ONE WEEK before surgery and said that my portion (the part insurance won't pay) is due before surgery. I had to cancel and they seemed to care less. Just said "ok". The end... my dreams dashed... Patty
  11. That is my favorite "go to" meal when I cannot keep antyhing much down.. a can of re-fried beans now lasts me about a week!!
  12. Hey everyone i was just wondering how much you lost in the week after surgery. I am 8 days post op and have lost 20 lbs. I didn't know if I was doing good or if I was about in the normal range. Lost 42 lbs all together so far

    Back pain each night

I had surgery on the 14th and was told the gas pains could last up to six weeks by my Dr and the nutritionist.

    5 months out.

I am feeling wonderful. Energy, motivation, self esteem are all on the rise constantly. My current goal is to break into the 100's, It was coming on very fast and then I decided it was time to hit the weights. So now I have been stuck in the slightly above 200 for 2 weeks now. But it should turn around shortly.
  15. Well, it is almost a week (3-6-15) after my surgery, and I am so tired all the time. I just want to sleep, but I know that is not good for me. I went on youtube and looked up one week post op gastric sleeve, and saw all these women in makeup, and hair done !!?? What is going on with that? I still look/feel like crap!!I know I need to start adding more Protein to my stuff too. Getting pretty sick of lemonade MIO. I did have some broth yesterday, which i got full right away. I am starting my second phase today, hopefully that might help, different textures and stuff. Another thing that is bothering me is HICCUPS and belching. I never had this problem before. and now those stupid hiccups actually hurt.... Another thing is that nothing sounds good....i put something against my mouth, and now my mouth has some weird aftertaste....Happen to any one??? Going to make me a Protein shake today, we shall see, oh yeah and that protein supplement Isopure, stinks. UGH UGH Ugh
  16. I was home, mostly in bed, for two weeks. My fatigue lasted even once I was back at work for a month or so. I would come home from work and nap. The taste thing my nutritionist told me about--side effect of ketosis. Rapid weight loss puts you into ketosis... (Google it for all the chemistry) When you burn fat, most of the ketones are excreted through your urine, but others are exhaled when you breathe. It gives you bad breath, and leaves residue in your mouth that can give a bad taste. People often say "things taste different after surgery". Think about it as an incentive not to eat things you shouldn't. I definitely can tell when I'm losing weight--everything tastes yuck to me.
  17. I have heard a lot about the phases of introducing food back after the surgery. It seems to vary per person. Mostly folks are saying 2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks pureed, 2 weeks soft, etc. Can someone break it down in easy to understand terms for me. I have a meeting with the NUT Friday morning and I could ask her. Curious what the folks here have experienced. Also, wife does the shopping and needs to know what to buy to be prepared for the after. Surgery is still over a month away. I am just trying to get all the info I can. Thanks.

    Stuck & Unfill

Thanks for the heads up. I'm one week out of surgery and I was going to drink some fresh fruit juice. My niece has juicer, and she just spent 4 hours juicing up fruits and veggies. I will be careful after reading your post. Thanks for sharing.

    How Much Should Be Enough

Thanks for the great analogy with the funnel. That helps visualize why and keep me mindful of the Water thing. I'm still three weeks away from surgery but am trying to start doing meals without beverages, and it's really hard. I"m on day two and starting now to think about drinking before i make dinner, etc. So hard this morning at my Breakfast meeting - to refuse coffee (i'm getting off caffeine) and then to stare at that glass of water and keep checking my watch until 30 minutes had gone by after my eating! I drank it all down then too. I think my doc suggests an hour, but i'm starting small.

    Weight Loss

I am 7 weeks out, and haven't lost any weight in almost 3 weeks. Does this subside? I get frustrated, and sometimes wish I never got the surgery b/c it's not doing me any good, but I know for a fact that this is the best decision i've ever made in my life. I think I'm a slow loser, but will not lose faith, anf know that this is just the beginning for me. Just know the weight will come off sooner or later, but it will come off. Best wishes on you journey, Sarinab73

Anyhow drinking my camomolie tea this morn feel much better pain has subsided, but I might still have Dr check it out if tea bothers me as morn goes by.
