Finally got my approval from insurance. After finishing all my supervised diet visits and pre-op stuff in October, surgeon finally submitted me last Thursday 11/13/14 and I just heard it was approved today 11/18/14. Seemed like forever, especially considering my surgery date was set for 12/01/14-I was starting to freak out it'd go to medical review and push my date back. *Sigh* what a relief. It's actually happening now!!

I cannot decide if I should do this or not
CocoNina replied to BeachMommy2Girls's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 10 days post op. I'll be honest, I didn't expect the pain to be this painful. It gets better everyday but emotionally, I'm sick of being weak from the surgery. It's a huge & life changing decision only you can decide for yourself. Even though I'm sort of emotionally drained, I've already lost 20 lbs since the liquid pre-op diet. I could never lose even that much weight before. If I could, I wouldn't have gotten the surgery. But in your condition, this will be a positive result for you since you need to lose weight. Ask yourself can you do it on your own by sticking to a strict diet or am I willing to go to the extreme with surgery? Complications are low according to statistics I've read. My hospital has 0 fatalities with weight loss surgery. Height 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: - 71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Current weight: 194.4 lbs My profile picture is not me. It's my "FitSpiration" body. -
Past original goal, what decides when weight-loss stops?
livvsmum replied to PlzCoolerMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good to hear that you found your "comfort zone" as far as your weight. I find that my body seems to settle in around a certain weight. I could probably really push it and lose another 10 pounds, but can stay with little extra effort right around 130. It's funny how our bodies know just what to do when we give them the chance. -
Thank you everyone for the well wishes. I am finally back to being able to sit comfortably in front of a computer screen. I had my procedure done at Maine Medical Center, the staff were excellent and I couldn't be happier with my choice in providers. The big day however was still full of unexpected surprises. I was told to arrive at 10:30 for a noon surgery. I arrived at 10:20 and was in the pre-op room at about 11am. Unfortunately there were some hold ups we were not privvy to and I didn't actually go into surgery until about 3pm. I was out by 7 pm, but instead of the 5 holes I was told there would be they made 6. I was brought to my room at around 10pm. That first night was brutal. I barely slept. I hurt everywhere. They did a great job administering nausea medication and sent me home with a bunch to use as needed. I had quite a bit of gas pains. It wasn't like scream in pain painful more like really uncomfortable nagging that grew old quickly. I walked a lot pretty quickly after waking up. Honestly it was harder to swallow the pills with my throat all inflamed and only being able to sip water. I was home on Tuesday by 7pm. It felt good to be home and while I was't at my water goals yet I was close. Wednesday saw me try my beloved protein shake, the same one I have been drinking for breakfast and lunch for nearly a year now. I was worried I wouldn't like the taste, but it was like an old friend waiting for me. I have spent most of the time since then working a larger sips, more water, and gaining on getting to two full servings of protein shake to meet doctors orders. The pain is less frequent now, it seems to come and go based on how much I try and push the envelope. So far it seems like the worst of it has passed and I am eager to get back to moving around again.

Hi All, My name is Lorinda. I am scheduled to be banded on March 21st. I have been on my pre-op diet since march 6th. I have lost about 8-10 pounds. my doctor wanted me to lose 10-15 pounds before surgery. I am scared if I don't lose the amount he asks he will cancel my procedure. however, I am so excited about my procedure. good luck to everyone. I look forward to hearing about all of the successes. -
How do you determine your goal weight?
shahsosweet posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning Bandsters! I am going to my first Lap Band seminar today at NYU and I cant stop thinking about it...Ive been up since 5am just researching more lapband info. -So I have a question: Do you or the physician determine what your goal weight should be? What was your goal weight and how did you come to that conclusion that would be the sie you aimed for? I've been overweight and now obese so long......I have absolutely no concept of what my normal weight should be. Im currently 5'3 and a whopping 214lbs:eek:...the heaviest Ive ever been. Im thinking of my goal weight being 130.....appropriate for height/weight I guess. I remember being this size in my first year college and I was about a size 10. I dont want to be emaciated or bone skinny just healthy and fit. Ive reviewed a few height/weight charts and they all vary so Im unclear how to accurately determine where I should aim to be. Any feedback would be well appreciated:biggrin:! -
Please, please tell me I can ditch the freaking CPAP after surgery?
Beni replied to Heather I's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, you can. it took almost a year for me but it was the most wonderful thing. That C-PAP was so uncomfortable. However, it is not the case for everyone. Some patients do have to keep using it but your chances are very good. Also, in that year I had my pressure down graded twice. It got to the point that it was set at the lowest possible setting and it felt like I was sleeping in a wind tunnel. I remember telling my doctor, if we didn't watch out my brain was going to blow out the back of my head. It sounds like allergies are getting the best of you right now. I too suffer from allergies and I used a nasal spray about 10 minutes before placing my mask on. It helped clear out my nose. I also took Nyquil every night. Oh, I forgot to say, I no longer snore. Awesome! -
5 days post op no urge to eat?
joatsaint replied to aimeelopez123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 1st 10 days, I didn't eat much of anything either. I was living on sugar free popsicles and Crystal Light. Since you're not taking too much in, don't expect much to come out the other end. :-p Including fasting the day before surgery, I basically didn't eat for 11 days. My system was used to processing 3000+ calories a day. That's a lot of empty storage space to fill, before it needs to clear out. Just keep drinking as much as you can and give your new stomach a chance to heal. In the first few months post-op, it wasn't unusual for me to only go once a week. I had one spell where it was almost 2 weeks, I got concerned and took some Milk of Magnesia. If you're concerned, you really should consult your doc. He can decide the best course of action. http://www.bariatricpal.com/blog/9018/entry-31570-constipation-and-milk-of-magnesia-or-how-fema-declared-my-bathroom-a-national-disaster/ -
Ok, so today was day 16 post surgery and I feel great. No problems at all. My only concern is that I lost about 10 pounds in the first 7 days and have only lost 1 pound in the 9 days since. Did this happen to anyone else? I know about embracing the stall and everything, but this was quick! I'm getting my Protein.....could probably get a bit more Water in, and I feel great. Clothes do fit noticeably different, so definitely good there. Just need to trigger some weight loss. Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What did you do to break your stall?
LilMissDiva Irene replied to Dawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I stalled for 3 weeks in a row (and each week I did lose but it was so little to me that is a stall) - I started logging my foods religiously, started incorporating more healthy carbs to my diet, and started bumping up my workouts. It worked. I've lost 10 Lbs in the 2 weeks that followed. I haven't lost any since that 10 lbs but it's because of mother nature, which is fine. Enjoy your successes! I honestly think this is the first time in my life that I've gone this amount of time with such consistent weight loss, besides my band where I was losing for the first 5 months. I'm almost there now and I really don't see me changing anything up. Keep in mind too, you will just have to find the winning combo for you as far as diet and exercise. Also, most everyone goes through a stall at 3 weeks out, so you might just need to wait it out. Good luck! -
Vets still trying to lose - what are your macros?
TheNewSusie replied to katesuccess's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'm in the same boat... Over 3.5 years out and was 10 pounds from goal and gained 20. Trying to lose 30 pounds and maybe another 15. Ugh! Been working hard doing the IF thing and nothing in two weeks! Trying to lose this extra weight so I can plan on getting pregnant. My husband and I are ready but I don't want to blow up! as little as possible. travel toothbrush and paste some comfortable pj's if you hate hospitals gowns and well nothing else unless you are scheduled for more than a day. i slept most of day of surgery and spent the night walking in circles around the 3rd floor. and went home around 10 a.m. the next day after surgery so i needed nothing. Some people spend longer in hospital so needs might change. Also i am a guy and we just dont care what we look like or wear most of the time so there is that. LOL

After my evening workout I eat as soon as I get home from the gym (which is about a 10-12 min car ride). I have not had a problem doing this and I try to make sure that it is not later than 7:00 or 7:30. We are all different but it has not slowed my progress at all! Good luck

Pre-op Diet for two weeks!!!! Ahh!!!
SolracSpree replied to Apples1184's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had to do the 10 day liquid diet. My suggestion is load up on various soups and protein shakes. Socially i was going to die, no going to lunch with friends or anything by Day 4 it was all good though, I cheated 2-3 times. 2 days I ate 3 baby carrots, and 1 day I had 3 grapes. Not too bad though lol -
Well, I had surgery with Dr. Aceves on 7/01 which was a piece of cake. The worst part for me was having that drain pulled out, and it wasn't even painful, just...creepy feeling. But now I'm home and asking myself, is everything ok? I just had a mug full of broth, isn't that too much? Will my new tummy hold more than 6 oz. because it's Clear liquids and they go through so much quicker? I'm kind of freaking out because I'm feeling so good, what if Dr. Aceves got in there and forgot to cut out my stomach? Anyway, the only other problem I've had is some gas, and that's managable with my Gas X strips. Anyone who can help put my mind at ease, thanks a mil.... Allison

Major weight loss often leads to gall bladder problems. I had a double whammy. I lost 100 pounds AND had strong genetic disposition to gall bladder problems. All of my mothers siblings (male and female) had their gall bladders removed (with my mother eight in all!). This was preband when I was 19. I have a high pain threshold and the pain is horrific.

I spoke to my physical therapist today and asked him what kind of exercise can I do without hurting my knees. He suggested walking for now. I am walking 10-15 per day and he told me to increase by five minutes a week until I reach 30-45 minutes a day. He told me that when it gets cold in a month or so, to go back to see him and he will give some exercises that I can do at home. I have to be careful due to really bad knees. I see my surgeon next Tuesday and I hope to have lost close to 40 pounds by then.
