My surgery 7:30 a.m. Today
terry1118 replied to mcdoja's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad you're feeling better. I stopped pain meds during the daytime after four days, stopped completely after a week. You'll be feeling good as new in no time! -
I had my surgery last thursday...
LindaD replied to On_the_fence's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just replied in another thread... I was STARVING too the week after, and I called my surgeon's office and they told me to use oyster crackers when I get overwhelmingly hungry - just to let them practically dissolve before swallowing. I'd definitely call and ask!! -
I my name is Doris. I have been banded for 2 years. Have been having very bad leg and food cramps at night, for about 2 weeks now. I was wondering if this could be due to something I am not getting in my diet. Has anyone had that problem. I am 72 and have not lost near as much weight as I would like to. About 35 lbs lost. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Please advise.

Massive caffeine withdrawals ,Day 2 of my 14 day pre op liquid diet
TLW replied to reedawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why can't you have coffee? My nutritionist told me the reason they don't want you to drink coffee is because after surgery it is hard to consume liquids and they are worried about dehydration, but before surgery was fine. I'm on my two week pre op day 2 and allow myself one half caffeinated cup a day so that by the time surgery is here, it won't be so traumatic. -
Hang in there and keep doing what you are supposed to be doing. I am almost 7 months out and I have hit a stall 4 times so far. Stalls suck but they are a normal part of the process :-)

I'm on my sixth week and haven't lost anything this week. Any suggestions?

Pre-surgery: What great things does the future hold?
Maddysgram replied to ATXVeg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drs and Lap Band manufacturers say 1-2 lbs per week. I've been averaging 10 lbs per month, but expect to hit a plateau anytime now.lol -
Hello every one I need support
Aingael63 replied to Nicole A's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Nicole, I was banded on November 26th and am having a heck of a time as well. I started eating solid foods on my third week, and with all the parties and potlucks, I have been eating way too much. Still way less than I would have before, just not bandster portions and the guilt is bothering me. My first fill is January 5th and I hope it makes a big difference. Maybe I should have waited until after the holidays and the temptations weren't there taunting me. Good luck. -
Salads How Soon To Eat After Surgery
Sojourner replied to goingfoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon gave all of his patients an entire manual to take you through every stage of the bandster diet from pre op through weight maintenance. He advised waiting until reaching 3 months post op to begin having dark leafy raw veggies. I followed his recommendations, and have never experienced any negative effects from having a very small salad using romaine lettuce most days of the week. As always though, when you have questions, it's best to begin with finding the answers through your surgeon. -
My second surgery was 3 weeks ago. They went in and removed the piece of scar tissue. I can even try to eat mashed potatoes with gravey and it will make me sick. I just feel like I am never going to figure it out. I have tried measuring out my food. Like 2 oz and it all comes back up. I can eat 1/2 pack of instant oatmeal with a splash of milk and it stays down fine.???? So I dont know if there is something wrong or if this is all normal???

Newly Banded 11/26 Lots Of Hunger Pains
heidijane replied to jdowns66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain . I too was banded on 11/27 and due to the swelling really wasn't hungry until saturday and then it was overwhelming! I got really cranky with my hubby for making his dinner and making me smell it, I made him eat it upstairs-LOL. This forum is so helpful because it sounds like everyone is hungry during this phase and we just have to bite the bullet. We WILL get thru this and be better for it. I can't wait until mushies phase this weekend tho!! FIll is suppose to be 6 weeks from surgery date. Best of luck to you and everyone getting through this starvation phase. -
Meredith, Unlike most people, I had a hard time post-op. I had surgery on March 19th and here it is 9 days later and I'm just starting to feel better. I took all last week off and then I decided to take another week. I thought for sure I would have bounced right back but I didn't. Good luck

Will I still be able to eat salads??
Iluvharleys replied to Sooverit!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the small band, and I don't have any problems with salad at all. I think the main thing we all need to remember is that if something don't work for you the first time, don't eliminate it completely, because sometimes if you can't eat it today, you can three weeks from now. You just need to try things more than once. -
How much did you lose your first 2weeks?

Lost 10#, am currently 22days post op. Haven't lost since post op day 6. So in 2 weeks 10#. allons-y -
3.5 weeks post op is really early especially eating chips. You don't want to open a staple or have your stomach not heal properly. Our stomachs aren't fully healed until 8-10 weeks post op (what I read). To me carbs is comfort food. One of my problems before surgery. When I was stressed or sad all I wanted was those carbs. Since it's tough for you to find support where you live, I believe there are also online groups for Food Addicts Anonymous & Over Eaters Anonymous. Good luck! I hope it works out for you not just to lose weight but to also take care of the healing stomach. Height: 5'0" Weight for WLS consultation: 216 lbs. Surgery date: 2/13/17 Goal: -71 lbs for healthy BMI (about 145 lbs). Current weight: 173 lbs My profile picture is not me. It's my "FITspiration" body.

I'm in medical school, so I always come across research study flyers begging for participants - some of them compensate their participants quite handsomely! I never qualify. I consider myself to be a pretty healthy person, but as soon as I mention having been on antidepresants once, I'm always rejected. I don't know why it's such a big deal, considering I haven't been on them for like 5 years. There was a food consumption survey advertised (they wanted to watch your eating patterns for 2 weeks), but I figured with my sleeve, I'd probably skew their results. Be careful, though, they've long used med students as paid guinea pigs and some of these experiments did NOT end well. I had a lecturer say that when she went to med school about 20 years ago and they were given an opportunity to be guinea pigs for this immunosuppressive drug that was to be used for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. They were offered something like 3 grand, which was an obscene amount of money back then. Unfortunately, 2 of these completely healthy med students died after taking the drug! I definitely wouldn't mess with any pharma trials, you never know what might happen.

Extreme fullness
Marc A. Fellman replied to olivejuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't drink much Clear Liquids first week either. I stayed hydrated on sugar free popsickles and crushed ice with some sugar free kool aid poured over it. I calculated each sugar free pop-sickle is the equivalent to 3 ounces of Water, and for some reason, the semi-frozen ice liquid was very soothing to my stomach, way less difficult than sipping water. I would have gotten dehydrated without the sugar pop sickles. -
Just filled out my paperwork!
VivaciousViv replied to 50yearoldme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Best of luck. Are you having surgery near home? You need lots of support and visit the nutritional psychologist, the dietician, the nutritionist, and the counselor who manages your case. I had great support at Northwestern University's Hospital-Northwestern Memorial. The nutritional classes were invaluable support. Four classes before, three after. I felt well prepared. My cousin's husband lost 275# with bypass surgery, but sugary sodas and peroggies are not helpful. He is still close to 400! And he needs a new heart-which he'll never get because of that weight! Stay close to your recommendations for your diet. Plan to look back in stages. Try taking portraits every 2or 3 months. You'll be so amazed my husband is tired of me saying, 'I can't believe it!' He says to just believe and enjoy! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
How much did you lose your first 2weeks?
clk replied to Adora2150's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost zero pounds. I gained eleven pounds post op and didn't lose until my third week post op - all my first month's loss came in the last eleven days of the month. ~Cheri -
Definitely do it! I am also in my 30's and about 6 weeks post-op, and I think it was a great decision. I think doing in younger is good because you are in such a better position to recover, heal quickly, and change old habits. Plus, why not enjoy as many years as possible in a healthier body? Like you, I was apprehensive beforehand, but now I am SO glad I did it. Good luck!

I am having a very hard time loosing any weight since the weather has gone into this deep freeze. I had my bypass a year &a day ago & I have been lucky the weight has been coming off steadily for this year with the infill now. Two weeks ago I got on the scale & was thrilled, I had broken through the 250's & weighed in at 248lbs, I stood on the scale & cried I was so excited. When I weighted in this week, the rotten thing said I was 258!! How did I gain 10lbs in a week??? I do mother & eat candy or sweets unless it is sugar free or under 10 grms of sugar. The only thing I can think of is I really haven't been out of bed in over a week, I have chronic RA &Fibromyalgia, & I have been in so much pain I haven't been able to move ( my RA is so bad that I am disabled from it & take pretty heavy duty pain killers) . Sorry this is so long & I sound like I'm whining, I guess I just need some advice/encouragement/etc. from people who have been through or -Maybe I just need to vent I don't know. A little help please?

I had my gallbladder out too. It's the same as it always was after surgery. So no worries there. I went back to work at my desk job at 1.5 weeks and wish I'd taken 2 weeks. But I had a slow start. Lots of people go back in less than a week. OTOH, why do it if you can avoid it? I think staying home until you are off liquids makes your life a lot easier.
