Been waiting 6 months for this and I am ready. Let’s get it done!!

No idea since I’m only 5 weeks out. I think once I’ve hit the end of my rapid-loss phase and move into maintenance (10 months or so from now) I’m going to look into intermittent fasting because it truly seems like the answer to keeping the weight off

One year post op, hungry all the time!
Hunger-Games replied to Ghada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi there, I’m glad to see some posts on this hunger issue a few years after the first one. I’d like to add a few things here after years with the sleeve. If you google “hunger after the sleeve”, you’ll more than likely end up on sites talking about “mental hunger” and trying to distinguish the difference. I’m here to tell some of you that there is something else going on with a few of us sleevers that is not being researched from what I can see. Before I had the sleeve, I had mild acid reflux and was on acid reducers. After the sleeve, I thought I could come off the acid meds but I was SO hungry after the surgery that about a week post-op, I was back on them. This did help me to stop feeling hungry ALL the time. However, it didn't take away the starving feeling throughout the day. In the first post-op year, I thought nothing of the times when I’d have to get to a convenience store, supermarket... any place close that served food at times when suddenly I had hit “starvation mode”. All that time I told myself it was because I had a small stomach and I just needed to eat more often. I guess I can be slow on the uptake because it took me 4 years to figure out that I had serious issues with hunger. One day, I had eaten a pretty good breakfast, was starving by 10:30 AM so had my lunch at work, and by 1:00 I was starving again. I was ticked off because I didn’t want to leave work to get food and it suddenly hit me…after a few years post-op with the sleeve, I was able to eat a lot more food in one sitting. So, from what I had eaten that day, why was I as hungry as I was less than 3 hours after my decent-sized lunch? I am now 7 and a half years post-sleeve and realize that my weight gain and eating habits are dictated by my hunger issues. No matter what I eat (dense protein, healthy fats, light carbs, etc.), I will be starving about 3 hours later. If I don’t plan right, I have to get up out of bed to eat and it’s really frustrating. I go out to eat with friends and then a few hours later, I have to tell them I need to eat more. I am on acid reducers because I do have acid reflux and more of it since the sleeve. I am 100% convinced that the hunger is an overabundance of acid build-up in my stomach. There have even been times when I have been starving and can hear the gurgling sounds in my stomach. Coincidentally enough, a year back, I had a conversation with a colleague who had just had the gastric bypass surgery. Without sharing much about my own surgery, she told me that one of the reasons she had had the bypass was because she had had the sleeve before that and was “hangry” every two hours. I didn’t know what “hangry” meant and she explained it is when you are so hungry, you get angry. I was stunned as she described my situation perfectly…except for me it’s every 3 hours. Post-bypass, this colleague no longer feels “hangry”. She knows when she needs to eat but that gnawing feeling in her stomach is gone. I have been in touch with a few bariatric surgeons because of my acid reflux and all of them have suggested I have the RNY bypass. I will have it in the near future and am hoping that the surgery will help my hunger issues go away. After 7.5 years post-op, my sleeve is still intact and I don’t eat an enormous amount of food at one sitting. Of course the first two years post-op are considered the "Honeymood Phase" and so I do eat more than I did back then, but still, it's not crazy amounts. I’m very happy with that but what I learned is that when you end up having to eat every 3 hours, you can really take in a lot of calories during the day. My weight issues were always due to bingeing at night, but never grazing during the day. Now, I find it really frustrating having to eat during the day when I really don’t want to…because I’m starving. (And a light snack when starving doesn’t do much for me at all. I’ve played around with calories and if I don’t take in about 300+ cals at these times, I’m starving even earlier than 3 hours.) So, I’m writing this because when I asked the last bariatric specialist I went to see about whether he knew of any research done on hunger issues post-sleeve, he said no. (I’m not talking about research regarding reduction of hunger…I’m talking about those of us who end up with MORE hunger.) This post is not meant for those of us who have had bariatric surgery and aren’t sure if they are really hungry when they eat. That sounds more like head hunger to me. This posting is for those few of us with the sleeve who know we’re starving all the time. I hope I remember this site after I get the RNY. If I do, I promise I’ll leave another post to tell you if the RNY actually did relieve my hunger issues. Stay tuned! -
I have pocos periods are fairly regular monthly but last around 10 days at a time, I'm only 4 days post op and as soon as I get the green light I will start to has the sleeve helped anyone conceive that was having fertility issues before hand? Sent from my BND-L34 using BariatricPal mobile app

Well I guess I came back to the forum so may as well open with this: Surgery was 8/6/18, I am down from 350 lbs (pre-liquid diet) to 260 lbs (plateau maybe?). I am able to walk more but still do not exercise. If I eat carbs, I am hungry in 2 hours. Nighttime snacking is a thing- nuts nearby help. I get complemented about "how narrow I look" and I blush and hate it. Makes me wonder if it is a negative comment on my past self. I returned to mental health treatment because both positive and negative stress- extra support on journey too. I eat more and sometimes push it... even when I know I shouldn't. Getting tested for IBS/Crohn's/Ulcerative Colitis. Hoping it is not something worse. Need to drop 10 more lbs for a colonoscopy... I AM 33 YEARS OLD I guess overall I am good. Still low energy but have energy at times. Definitely eat a lot less. Smaller sizes are being worn. I do feel better about myself. Surgery cannot fix all your issues. But I shall take this about 90 lbs of weight loss and say to those who are thinking it may fix it all something one of my doctors said. "You had the surgery. It is like being given a winning lotto ticket. It is now up to you to cash it in". I am trying to cash it in. Obstacles are present, mostly my brain, but I will cash it in.

Med28thmed. I am doing fairly well. I have been back to work for two weeks now. I just moved from purées to moist meats and an egg. All of my incisions have healed but one. I am down down 19 since surgery. I ordered a food scale to weigh the meat. My eyes cannot completely estimate how much is there. -

Pre-op Liquid Diet/High Fasting Glucose
hburns89 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning! So my surgery date is 3/28/19 and I started my 2 week liquid diet yesterday. I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes last year in June before I started pursuing bariatric surgery and this diagnosis actually pushed me to go through with it so I decided to not go on insulin since this surgery has such a high rate of success in putting diabetes into remission. I'm getting nervous though since my fasting glucose result just came back and it was really high, 170 to be exact, and I'm worried my surgery might be delayed because of this? -

That's good news. Good luck on your 4/3/19 surgery. -
Correction: it was only 10 on the 1 week liquid. Sorry about that!!

That's probably it, lifting the puppy, because you're not supposed to lift anything more than 10 pounds for about six weeks.

Hi, all. Day 10 after surgery, and things are going extremely well. I have no more pain, I haven't vomited or had food come back up or have it get "stuck" as some of you have mentioned. I'm on purees now and am cheating a bit in the sense that I'm having soft foods and chewing them really, really well. Once this week I ate more than I should have, but there was no dumping. It was just discomfort as if I had eaten too much before I had surgery. I always feel full and am still having trouble getting all the protein and water every day, but I'm getting closer. I have two big issues that remain. I'm still extremely dizzy and disoriented at times, especially when I stand up. I got up to go the bathroom last night and got very confused and crashed into a standing mirror that is nowhere near the bathroom. Thankfully, my wonderful partner jumped up and saved me. The other thing is that taking ground-up pills is disgusting! I have tried many different ways, and I've found that the best thing is to just throw all the powder into my mouth followed by some water, which gets it over with quickly. (I'm on quite a few meds and it amounts to about a tablespoon.) I can't wait until I can swallow pills whole again! -
I just want to say Welcome and congratulations. Well for me I don't have to start a pre-opt diet and my surgery is the 19 of March I just can't gain no more weight. I'm very excited right now!

I went out for lunch today for the first time. I was with my husband, so there wasn't any weirdness about me not eating. He ordered lettuce wraps, so yes, Sheri I too ate some "salad". I took one bite, then I remembered being told that was the hardest thing to digest, or one of the hardest - lettuce. I ate about 2 tablespoons (if that) of the chicken tofu filling. I ate slow for once so I didn't get level 10 overstuffed but I did get nauseated so I know I pushed it eating a heavily seasoned filling, even though, as per usual, I chewed it to mush. I too miss veggies. I have had some canned green beans, but I miss the real deal! -

I still see me as fat. I'm so self conscious of any pudge lol. I've lost more than I was told was my max loss but it's because I'm still on liquids and soft foods 10 months later. -

Today is my 10-year wedding anniversary. Yesterday I went shopping for a cocktail dress for a special weekend we have planned. When I was in high school, my friends and I would go to the mall and try on prom dresses in the department store junior section, just for fun. The largest size they ever had was a 14. I would ask my friends to try to zip the dress up, and it wouldn't zip, ever. I blamed my boobs or my large frame (shoulders/ribs too wide..) but the truth was, I was just too heavy. It still makes me feel shame, even 20 years later. Well, yesterday, I found a beautiful cocktail dress in a size 12. I decided to try it on, despite having flashbacks to high school. It was tight and I couldn't reach to zip it myself, so I stepped out to ask an attendant to zip it for me. Y'all - it fit, with space to spare. I feel like Carrie Bradshaw in this damn dress, and I bought a pair of sky-high heels to match. And the best part? This normally $298 dress was on clearance at Nordstrom Rack for $35!

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability

Thanks so much for the input. Okay, so I’m going to continue to follow this thread and see what y’all are doing, and when I feel the time is right (once I’ve lost most of my weight and feel as if I’m truly hitting a plateau) I’ll start playing around with IF to maybe get the last 10-15% off that I’m sure won’t come off easily.
