cb11 replied to ladycathy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a RN at a large Neuro Center. My job doesn't require heavy lifting. I am going to ask for 3 weeks FMLA and come back after 2 weeks if I am recovering well from RNY bypass. Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk -
Sleeve to Bypass REvision
Jmf replied to Alley1016's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I also has the sleeve done 3/2015, lost 155 and gained back 40. I went back to my Dr because of gerd and no restrictions when eating since 3 months post op. I have cigna, they approved and I am now waiting on the dr office to schedule the surgery. I would love to find out what the average weight loss is for sleeve to bypass revision.... -

dturner153 replied to Alley1016's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Yes, I had band to sleeve, but that didn’t do anything but give me Gurd, really bad, so on 9/25 had bypass, so far so good, not acid reflux....the reason I had the surgery to begin with.. by the way, never lost any weight with the sleeve! Have already lost 11 pounds as of 10/1.... -
I'm anxious to hear what is said about Gene pro too, as it's on my list of approved protein supplements, and I'm doing well with it twice a day. I love that it's unflavored & I add it to crystal light, dissolves great. I'm 2 weeks out Lapband revision with Gastric bypass. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using BariatricPal mobile app

Nancy: Only you can make this decision. I am waitlisted for bariatric surgery. I had a previous failed lapband removed 4 yrs ago. It slipped despite me following everything as directed I am nervous now about choosing either the sleeve or gastric bypass due to the previous failure. I don't want to spend months throwing up like last time. My weight is my nemesis. I have achieved all my life goals except for this one. Change is HARD, SCARY, and it is easier to stay the same. You need to believe in yourself, look at why you made the decision to have surgery in the first place and commit to making changes. food will always be there, how you deal with it is up to you.

does anyone have 60 pounds or less to lose?
gomezk2 replied to conrad1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I did a revision from band to sleeve back in 5/19/15..i was 226 pounds. Band had slipped out of place and had to come out. Insurance approved it no questions asked. At first i was hesitant because of the fear of getting denial. Weight started dropping slowly since my target goal weight was not much to drop considering my height of 6"1 bmi should be at around 25. Currently going almost 7 months post op and weighing 179 pounds. I truly thought the weight loss would be much slower but i guess is all about how body anatomy truly is different from men/women.. Weight will drop for sure just need to keep on and be patient. There are days were it may feel like is not gonna work but it truly does.. Hang in there and this forum is hear to help you in times of need.. -
When swallowing tablets of medicine?
Katherinedj replied to cocoa8utter's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Bariatric Pal website has Vitamin Patches. Does anyone know if these are enough of what post gastric bypass are supposed to take and if they really work? Thanks! -
I had the gastric sleeve in December 2012. I lost 100 lbs but have since gained back 55 Lbs. I have extreme GERD, have been hospitalized for Ulcers. i went and met with the doctor and he recommended doing the bypass to alleviate my GERD and other issues. i am now waiting on my ins approval. Has anyone else had this procedure done? did it relieve your GERD and how much additional weight did you lose?

Has anyone had their inner thighs done?
Kelliebelly replied to sleepyjean's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Hey, I looked right into it when I got my TT and I could not find one person that could say they were/are happy with the results. My friend went ahead and got it done with her TT and she is not happy at all either. The scars tend to migrate down, there is a high rate for revisions afterwards, its a lot of pain and healing and the cuts like to pull open because they are in such an awkward spot. In my opinion, from what I have seen and who I have spoken with...it just isnt worth it. My thighs are horrid, I mean reallyyyyy bad but I wont risk going through it. -
ED -- erectile dysfunction -- Did it get better at goal weight, guys?
Nikasio replied to VDB's topic in The Guys’ Room
@ Two of my formerly super-obese (400 to 450+) friends say it gets better. One of them had a bypass over four years ago and he insists that it not only mitigated the need for ED drugs, but also made his penis look bigger. Not going anywhere near that subject. WebMD's warning about these drugs is "If you have suffered from a heart attack, stroke, or life threatening arrhythmia (irregular heart rate) within the last 6 months you should discuss other options with your doctor. It is also advised to avoid these drugs if you have uncontrolled high or low blood pressure or if you experience chest pain with sex." So I wish you good luck with your weight loss journey 'cause it should bring about plenty of positive changes for you. -
I am getting the Gastric Bypass on January 29, 2015.Kinda nervous and excited all at one time. Lets see what the future holds!

Does everyone need plastics
volkitteh replied to Angie413's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I know this wasn't geared towards me but I am a diabetic who first had lap and revised to the bypass. My diabetes was called in remission 2 days after the surgery. At the 3 month post surgery my A1C went from 9.5 to 7.5 and is still lowering. The mental need for sweets that ruled my waking thoughts is gone. I don't even miss them but it's only at the 6 month point. I'm about 50 pounds from a healthy bmi. With the bypass, for a diabetic it's the bypassing the duodenal switch which helps us first and then the weight loss. Other surgeries help diabetes but because of the weight loss which takes time to do. I do still have some lingering neuropathy but my kidneys which weren't so great before are normal and most of the other diabetic related health problems are gone now. I would recommend this to and diabetic in a heartbeat. Just follow your doctors orders though for success! Good luck! -
Insurance for revision from VBG to Gastric Bypass
Chelsea Pedro posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello All, 16 years ago at the tender age of 19, I had the, now disgraced, Vertical Banded Gastroplasty procedure. Although I lost weight, I started throwing up 3-5 days a week for hours on end within two months of the surgery and have been that way ever since. 16 years later, I have all fake teeth (natural teeth can't stand that level of acid), am on huge doses of Nexium, and have serious esophageal problems, which could lead to cancer in the future. Also, it is REALLY terrible to throw up that often, and it really effects my quality of life. I also didn't maintain the weight loss, although I have been on Weight Watchers for a few months now, and have lost 45 pounds the old fashioned way. I got to the point where this started to make me mad! They say that often change doesn't happen until to actually get MAD! My parents and I started doing research and found out that the VBG can be revised into the gastric bypass. Does anyone have experience with this, especially with the insurance end? It took me 16 years to stop blaming myself and be willing to take action. Any help, hope, or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Chelsea- 5 replies

Lap Band Removal after 12 years. Conversion in Dec.
this sucks replied to 2ndTry's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Had my revision two days ago after being banded for six plus years. I'm glad it's gone-found out after surgery that I actually had a slip and stomach prolapse along with needing a repair to an already repaired hernia. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Until noon today I thought I was going to be a sleeve patient. But then my surgeon in my pre op appt told me he thought the bypass was a better option. I have a hiatal hernia and reflux. So here I am. Surgery is scheduled for 2/28.

Dr. says 40 is too young...help
ocgirl15 replied to mythreekids's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
People a lot younger than us get sleeve and bypass. It based on BMI and co-morbidities not age. I think he is a surgeon just not comfortable with sleeve but wants to keep your business. Get a second opinion. Most surgeons are moving away from band. Many of the sleeves done are lapband revisions because they are failing. -
Dr. says 40 is too young...help
lifeofblair replied to mythreekids's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The doctor I went to wouldn't even do band anymore. He strictly does sleeve and bypass. So strange yours said that. -
. My doctor rarely does a bypass anymore... They have such a huge success with the sleeve. I guess it all depends on the surgeon.

comparison with gastric bypass patients
morningoasis811 replied to kbinaz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Comparison to the bypass is THE main reason I refrained from telling the world about my band. Only 3 people at work know and my close friends and family. I try to give people mini education lessons about the band, it's easy to bring up when I'm talking about fills (no one understands how that works) so that's how I explain the difference. The band is adjustable and I have to find a sweet spot, until then weight loss is slow and wavering. My family and stuff has been very supportive so far. At work is where I'm most concerned. These people don't care about me like my friends and family. I try to keep it to myself, I also go to WW for support so I'm just telling people that notice my loss that I'm going to WW and excercising. It's hard not to compare myself either... but that's useless for me since the bypass was NOT an option. I had pre-existing digestive track issues (malrotation and adhesions) that would prohibit them from the "bypass" part of the bypass. Lucky me. The band is awesome though. I'm just not working it like I should. -
Gastric Leak for 6 Months - Help!
Goggyween replied to Greta Griggs Hannah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just started eating soft foods today. Was on TPN for 7 weeks. I am praying that my leak is healed. I should know within the next 2 weeks. Have been out of work pretty much since my surgery date of 4/4/17. Have lost 60 lbs. But still have my pickline. If this doesn't work, I really just want a bypass instead of a stent. I hear they are so painful. My doc said they need to wait like 8 months before turning a sleeve into a bypass. He said if they did it now, "It would be a warzone". So I am praying, praying, praying for all of us with complications. Keep us posted everyone, it really helps to see all the posts. -
Gastric Leak for 6 Months - Help!
Joann454 replied to Greta Griggs Hannah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been following your story for a while now. I think I'd rather the bypass over a stent too. So sorry for all of you suffering and hoping that in the end you all end up happy and pain free. -

Anyone Else Think That They'll Be The One That Will Die?!?
ribearty replied to Sabredy12's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sabredy12 and Quenny, First congratulations to you both on your upcoming surgery. I too thought something would happen to me. I told my surgeon the first time I met him that if anything weird was going to happen I would be the patient. I also knew that if I didn't have the surgery that the ultimate end would be death because of being overweight but before that happened I could have a lot of other thing happen like stroke, poor quality of life. I also knew that my surgeon was very qualified and helped develop some of the procedures that are used today in laparoscopic surgery. I had faith in his skills. With any type of surgery there are risks. I was nervous going into the operating room because I had never had this surgery and was worried about pain afterwards. It turns out I was worried for nothing. I had no pain from CO2 used during surgery, I had some pain which was totally controlled by my pain medication. I had surgery on a Friday and stopped pain med by Monday. I was a band to sleeve revision in one procedure. I had so much energy the next week went walking every day and even saw other doctors with whom I had previously scheduled appointments. They were all amazed at how well I was up and moving around. Do what your doctor asks of you before surgery to help increase your chances of no complications, and follow their post-op diet instructions also. Don't try to rush foods before they say you can have them. Good luck and hope to hear your stories after surgery. -
omg! im really having second thoughts about this lap band!
Aurelia replied to sweettea25's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You're not alone. I hate the band and wish I had gotten a bypass or a sleeve. -
Do You Sometimes Get Discouraged Or Regret Getting The Lapband?
mamastwo replied to FAT2FLAT43's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hi! i feel the same way. I was banded 7/23/11 and have only lost a total of 30 pounds, that's from my very first appointment BEFORE my surgery. I can't say i really have lost a lot due to the surgery. I have had three or four fills I think. I need to go back but I havent had the time. I know we just have to be patient and visit the dr often and get more adjustments to find the "green zone" but it is SO frustrating. My brother and mother had bypass a month ago and have lost an immense amount of weight. good luck in your journey!
