  1. I had mine 5/31. Feeling better today than I have been. So far I've gotten 52 oz between flavored water and protein shakes today. I have Greek yogurt worth my pills in the morning and then work on it throughout the day when I can't stand another sip of protein shake. Judy glad I'm able to get a much in now than the last few days. But keep thinking of pepperoni for some reason. Like I really want a pepperoni. Oh well, soon enough. Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. I had my surgery on the 30th. The doctor said thebsurgery went very smooth. However, I did have problems with severe nausea first 3 days , and sever gas pains. The gas has finally started to get undercontrol and nauseau is very well conrolled. Maybe once a day at most now. I am now on full liquids but only have added greek yogurt because I cant stomach the protein. But greedily I want to wat mostly because Im tired of broth 😕 any ideas on what else to eat on?

mind not in line with stomach

Neverland, you might be too tight. Or you may have irritated your pouch and esophagus. Try going to liquids only for a couple of days. As for rice, I would advise against it - ever. The salmon should go down just fine, after you allow everything to rest for a couple of days. The pudding, if it's sugar free and made with skim milk, is a fine dessert or snack. Cookies are something that I can't eat very well and will usually PB on them. Cake, too. Tomatoes are not my best friend, either. Anything with skin is apt to give you problems. For your protein, try some FF cottage cheese, LF yogurt, flaky fish, chili or chunky soup with meat (put it thru the blender, if necessary), and skim milk - with or without protein powder. Get som SF chocolate syrup and add it to your milk, if you like. And don't feel bad about complaining to us. You can cry on our shoulders anytime.

    Starting on solids?

To me the food kind of felt heavy. My first food was a scrambled egg and I could only eat half of it. I had the best luck with yogurt and still do. I get a little nauseated every time I eat but it only lasts about 10-15 mins. I haven't had any pain.

    WHAT did I just do?

Day 6 post op and I am feeling like I am never going to be able to eat again. I have to be on a full liquid diet until the 30th and I am starting to struggle. I know there is no way I am eating enough and when I try things like yogurt or pudding I get full real fast. I try my best to drink alot of water but that makes me full. I walk all the time as that has been easy for me...I just wish I could eat!!! uggggg
  6. You might want to pay close attention to the nutrients component of Lean Cuisine and other frozen entrees now that you are banded. I started doing this and found that a lot of prepared meals may be low in calories but they are high in sodium and low in vitamins, minerals, fibre, and the other good stuff. I am not a cook but there are a number of things that you can make on the stove top or in the microwave or eat fresh which will be tasty and healthier for you. I guess my favourite microwave meal is two beaten eggs with milk (eggs are loaded with vita Bs, protein, vita E, selenium, the omega oils and have only 70 calories per egg), a finely chopped tomato, a little salsa, and some cheese. Put this in a bowl and nuke it, then eat. Oh, yah, season to taste. I also keep around the house those little cans of Clover Leaf flavoured tuna; these come in such flavours as spicy peanut satay, dill&lemon, and have a pop top lid. They are low in calories, taste good, contain protein, and although there is some cholesterol it is better than eating a bag of chips. I also eat a lot of tzatziki which I buy from the store. I don't have much of a sweet tooth and this is a thing which the Greeks do with yogurt; they mix it up with garlic and slivers of cucumber. If you can get over your fear of the stove top you might consider getting into stir-frying fresh vegetables and chunks of expensive beef/pork tenderloin or chicken. I use the expensive stuff because it chews up nicely in my mouth and because it tastes better. The leftovers nuke up nicely the next day. However, if you cannot get over your fear I would suggest that you make a point of chopping up fresh vegetables and adding these into every item which you microwave. I say this because I shocked to note that even Gardenay soups (which allowed me to survive the full fluids weeks post-op) are surprisingly devoid of the vita Cs, etc. I have to say that I really was surprised when I began to study those nutrient info labels! I also rely a lot on salads and I often incorporate chick peas into these. They are a good source of complete protein when combined with cheese and they are fibre rich. I add diced onion, red, yellow or orange pepper, and fresh parsley, dill, or coriander. I make my own salad dressing by mixing together dijon mustard, cider vinegar/lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil and a few drops of balsamic vinegar. Because I like spicy I add a bit of hot sauce. And when the season is right I substitute avocado for chick peas. Avocados are kind of fattening but they are loaded with nutrients. As for the salad dressing, I learned how to make this when I was living in France. Olive oil has the good kind of cholesterol, and both apple cider vinegar and lemon juice are good for you, they say. The sweetness of the balsamic vinegar cuts the acidity of the dressing and the dijon mustard binds the vinaigrette together and gives it zest. This dressing takes 2 minutes to make and is less fattening, less expensive, and pretty much free of additives. Another lazy thing which my husband and I have gotten into is that we buy these pre-roasted chickens which are available in our local supermarkets. They haven't been deep-fried and they don't come with the Kentucky crust. We buy 'em, put 'em in the refrigerator, and eat 'em cold. This works out well for us, particularly so because I like white meat and he prefers the dark. It is another source of protein for the non-cook, eh. I know that this is an awfully long reply to your question, grrl, but I am anxious that you understand that surviving on a diet of Lean Cuisines and Healthy Choice Meals is probably not going to cut it. We are subjected to those Campbell Soup ads which mention that their soups contain full servings of vegetables when in fact nutrition-wise they are lacking. At the same time I, while I am not phobic, do not derive any joy at all from cooking. Eating is where I was at! It strikes me that you have got to figure out a new and creative way to deal with your food issues, one that does not necessarily mean that you ever have to go near a stove. I have provided you with a few of my thoughts. There are other things which you can do in order to get your food needs in order. Eating a lot of fresh fruit is one of them. You will need your Bs, and your proteins, of course. Beat an egg or two and then nuke it, and buy those pre-cooked chickens. This should cover most of your nutritional needs. And do what most of us bandsters are doing, take your vitamin supplements as well. I take the chewies and because I live in a northern climate I take an additional 1,000 IUs of vita D. I think my answer is really boring but I hope that it helps.

    My first fill

Melissa, I weighed this morning and came just a smidgen (made up word) under 200. I am hopeful by Sunday the needle will be noticeably below 200. Do you eat the cottage cheese plain? I never thought of this. I have been drinking the Campbell's Soup at Hand and yogurt. Cottage cheese might be a welcome change.

Nov 22 Sleeved And Now I'm Miserable Help

I also still cannot tolerate eggs in any form (scrambled, boiled, egg salad, whatever)--and I ate them practically daily before being sleeved. You will probably need to try different types of protein as you go and see what works for you. It might be that chicken is great shredded, or maybe tuna, or cottage cheese--my point is, you will find your "go-to" foods with trial and error, and you will also find some foods that your sleeve just doesn't like any more. Mine hates grilled chicken but tolerates boiled chicken in tiny bits in soup--so I can have soup if it's "smushy." I can eat Wendy's chili but not a hamburger patty. My sleeve LOVES dairy and veggie sources (beans, peas, lentils), so I'm okay with protein variety, but it took me a while to realize that eggs, grilled chicken, tuna weren't working any more. You're also eating kind of early, I think--- maybe start out with some yogurt (Greek has extra protein), but watch out for excess sugar--that's another thing that makes my sleeve freak out. You can make some sugar-free pudding and stir in some protein, too, and if you zap up some cottage cheese in your blender with a little sweetener, it makes a nice protein-rich topping for jello or pudding or melon (when your doc says you can eat that). Keep portions small and undereat--try to eat until you're not hungry, not until you're full. HUGS to you, and best wishes! You've got a great tool--now you are in the learning-to-use-it-to-best-advantage period.

Nov 22 Sleeved And Now I'm Miserable Help

Nothing sits well with me either except cream of wheat and yogurt. Both cause runny you know what, but I know my body needs something in it. Eggs make me slime. Most solids do. I am one month out and can start anything in a day, but I am weary. I can also do protein smoothies but they also have the same effect as above. Water makes me burp, as does other liquids, but the slimes are the worse. It is hard to go out socially at this point. That part stinks. I can get about three bites in at most, and that is very weird to me. BUT, I am losing weight, and this is what I signed up for. And by the way--I could eat more right after surgery than I can now. I think that is common. Hang in there!!!
  10. Well, as usual I was going to title my topic "Lost 45 pounds in less than 4 months" but I zoomed past 45 and actually lost 46 pounds. My body does weird things sometimes! I had surgery on Feb. 7 so I'm almost 4 months out. I have experienced stalls but have pretty much followed the same routine since surgery. I exercise at least 4 times per week - I wog (walk/jog) as well as do Zumba DVDs. I usually drink a 1/2 a GNC lean protein shake for breakfast and the other 1/2 for a snack, eat 1 low fat string cheese, have a pretty "normal" lunch at work such as 1/4 of a turkey sandwich, a small salad and iced tea and then for dinner I will have another protein shake and 1/2 a yogurt mixed with Kashi and some kind of berry. I eat out at least 3 times per week but my lunches or dinners out usually feed me for 3 meals! I have restricted myself from any foods except what my doctors office ordered during the first 12 weeks, such as raw veggies, lettuce, etc. Now I can eat whatever I want, I just eat very small portions. I chose to not eat pasta until a few days ago as I felt that was a trigger food for me. DH and I went to Olive Garden and I ordered chicken and pasta and ate about 1/5 of the food plus 1/2 a bread stick and a few bites of salad. I didn't feel deprived and was totally satisfied! For me the plication has been everything I thought my band was going to be. I get full on smaller portions of food but I'm still able to eat a variety of food, including chicken and raw veggies - things that were very difficult for me to eat with the band. I haven't thrown up since leaving the hospital and have gone from a size 22/24 to a size 18. I changed my next major goal on my ticker since I had 199 lbs but think I'm ready to try for more. I had hoped to lose 60 pounds the first year and I feel extremely confident that I will surpass that goal! Take care everybody. Jenn

1 week post op and liquid diet a problem.

I am RIGHT there with you Vince. I had my surgery the same day, cheers. I lost about 15 pounds already. I want to encourage you follow your fast for as long as your doctor is suggesting. I have one of the most strict surgeons on this board. He recommends 30-35 days of liquid fast. CLEAR LIQUID FAST. Honestly, I don't know how I am going to make it, but I am encouraged by the fact that THIS is the most and the fastest weight loss we will encounter in this whole journey. So I will bite my tongue, get out of the kitchen, watch tv, play on the computer, get out of the house, anything to get my mind off food. Funny you should be posting this as this is by far the most difficult days for me too. I am thinking, only a little yogurt, only a smidge of something. But no, I just have to try my best to give this band a fair fighting chance to heal. It is only a short while and my surgeon assured me that out body is busy using our fat stores and supplying us with all that we will need. Let us know how it is going Vince. We are here for you. Paula, who is DYING to eat something, 9 days out now.

    Update on Black Tongue

Yikes! I'm happy you are getting that fixed. I am going thru an antibiotic PH imbalance myself but it turned into a yeast type infection down stairs w/out actually being yeast...itchy burning horrid past week. My advice to all who read this if you have to take antibiotics my Dr says to eat yogurt w/ live cultures in it. Apparently it helps and I will defiantly be doing it from now on! Nana~
  13. I like to use string cheese, and roll sandwich meat around them and even a lettuce leaf to use as the wrapper. Those cheese singles make a great on the go snack as do the yogurt. Its all about staying ahead of the game and being prepared- PLUS it is a TON cheaper than pulling thru the fast food. Prepackaged meals and frozen dinners are a better bad choice when fresh is not available and you will be glad you did it. Take 1 hour and shop and package for the week- Good Luck. You can do it!!

This has been a very interesting experience so far even though it is only a few days old. I Want Food!!

I remember. I was banded 7-19-06. Just as I was getting into some really good food and my first fill was today 8-28-06. Back to liquids for a few days. Im writing because my doctor allowed me to chew 1/2 cup cottage cheese per day on my liquid 2 weeks. I know you said no to yogurt but I like key lime pie, pina colada and coconut creme pie. Could you try some flavors that wet you whistle? edie tips? It will be worth it . 247 lbs 7-7-06 224 lbs 8-28-06
  16. Hi all I have had my 3rd fill for 2 weeks. I have "thrown up" 6 times. What is weird - i think this is really my first fill that has given me any restriction. I really don't think I'm to "full". I think the problem lies with my first 2 not giving me any restriction and have been able to eat anything and ate to much. So here I am with my 3rd fill (only 1.4cc) and having problems. some meals are very painfull and have a hard time staying down. If I take my time and eat small bites and chew my food - it doesn't give me any problems. Some of the problem food seems to be with chicken. I did eat "beef" 2 times and didn't have any problem. Usually, yogurt is no problem, but every now and then it does hurt a little. When I think about it, I think I ate the yogurt to fast. My question is - am i just really trying to get use to this and this is the way it is suppose to be, or am I overfilled. I'm afraid to get some removed as it will just be like it was before this fill and i will eat to much. I have only lost about 17 lbs since December 19th so this is really slow for me. :hungry: :help:  I am getting frustrated with this. Please help me.
  17. Most people have buyers remorse earlier on. I didn't but I am strange...lol Your stomach is giving you trouble. It is something you really need to discuss with your surgeon. There are Protein powders you can add to yogurt and pudding not to mention cottage cheese. Try eggs. Do they stay down. I can eat scrambled but not fried. Protein shakes or smoothies might be an option for now. I spent 5.5 months only consuming Protein drinks and a little ice cream which I cannot eat now..It hates me! You have to find what you can tolerate at this point. Trying is the only way. If you are not eating enough your body will stop you dead from losing. It is your bodies way of protecting itself right now. Also if you are not drinking enough Water. It will affect your stomach and bowels. That is why it is so important to get the water in. Contact your surgeon he may have a good idea how you can cope with this for now.

    Desperately need help!!

When you start getting fills you will not be as hungry. You still, however, will have to make sure you don't have junk around. Junk goes down too easy! Replace those foods with high protein foods such as yogurt or frozen yogurt. You will feel full longer so hopefully that will help. Also, fruit is good. Good luck.
  19. Congrats on getting your surgery moved up! That's wonderful. So suddenly, the pace to ask whatever questions I still have isn't as leisurely as it was a couple days ago. So while I've been lurking on the board for weeks, and I probably ran across the answers to one of two of these questions before, please forgive me is I ask questions that are answered somewhere else in the forum. Sorry if they're a little wide-ranging: No problem, yes there are loads of answers out there, but you sort of need to know now. The search function here is good, but I'll try to help you out below. How long do you usually spend in the hospital? Is it outpatient? Overnight?Totally depends on your doc. CALL and ask, that's the only way to know for sure what your surgeon does. My surgeon required an overnight stay, many folks here had their surgery outpatient, and quite a few stayed overnight as I did. How many days did you have to take off from work?Again, it depends. There are LOADS of threads here asking how long we took off work, but unfortunately I can't predict what your doc will want you to do. My doc required me to be off four weeks. Was that overkill? Maybe, but I do do a lot of physical stuff, though I thought I could have gone back in two. If I had had a desk job, I think I'd have been okay after a week or so. What are the warning signs that your band is slipping?I'm not going to answer this one, A) because I haven't experienced it myself and because it does no good to start off in a fatalistic mood. There is a forum here for LapBand Complications, you may wish to check in there. I don't think it's the exact same for everyone. The biggest thing is to follow your doc's orders, especially on the post-op diet. The post-op period is for healing, not weight loss, the idea is to rest your stimach as much as possible so the band gets "seated" into place with scar tissue formed around it to hold it there. If you eat real food too early, you risk it not healing in the proper place. That then may contribute to slips later down the road. How do you take pills in general – mash 'em up in apple sauce?Depends, again your doc should have post-op instructions for what he wants you to do. My doc's office says that if it is larger than birth control pill-size it needs to be cut. In the immediate post-op period they wanted us to mash them and take then with applesauce or pudding or yogurt. My doc also says no more extended release meds, ever. You can't cut them, you can't smash them, and when you get to the point you can take them whole (as long a the pill/capsule isn't too big), then you still don't want them sitting in your pouch. That's not where they are absorbed from. Most importantly, has anyone here dealt with Dr. Constantine Frantzides in the Chicago area? The Dr. who referred me called him "gifted with a laparoscope". He mainly does laparoscopic gastric bypasses, but he also does the Lap-Band. His many patients sing his praises on obesityhelp.com, but again, they're mainly bypass patients.Sorry, I don't know anything about him, either. Is there anyone on the Doctors and Hospitals thread or in the Illinois thread that has him listed? Use the search function and put in his last name. Then try searching with his first name only in case someone spelled his last name wrong. You might get some hits. Good luck! That's all for right now, though I may have another question or two soon. Ask anytime, and best wishes for a quick and easy surgery! Be sure to check out the FAQ and references Forum, it has a list of things to have ready for after surgery.

    Drinking and restriction

I just wanted to check in and see how everyone's hunger level was, and what their restriction was like. Right now I can drink a 12 oz Protein drink made with Water and ice no problem. It fills me up. I am happy and full. I drink a lot of protein; it is my main staple. It will help get me through these last 2 days of liquids without going nuts and eating the cat. (I am just joking I would eat the dog first he has more meat on him.):hungry: Is anyone else drinking a lot or am I the only one? I also find that I feel more hungry with each passing day. I am not sure I could sit down and eat a full meal, but I am snacking on low cal yogurt and pudding here and there. Or I am adding an extra Protein Drink when needed. I have a very limited diet plan, but I am finding very hard to stick to now that I am hungry. I am sticking to the items and most of the time the quainties, but I am eating more frequently, snacking, and adding additional meals. :hungry: Is anyone else experiencing these issues? Or should I just give up and start chowing down on the pets?:heh:

    Soup last night, CHILI tonight!

Yummmmmmm, I absolutely love chili, I make it all the time. These days I skip the rice (or for the kids I serve it on organic corn chips) and just have it as is, with a good dollop of thick natural yogurt and some chopped avocado and tomato. I like mine FULL of Beans though. Its healthy, cheap, high in Protein and fibre (if you have the beans) and also vegetable based with all the tomato. Perfect food really.

    Hunger and Restriction

Right now I can drink a 12 oz protein drink made with water and ice no problem. It fills me up. I am happy and full. I drink a lot of protein; it is my main staple. It will help get me through these last 2 days of liquids without going nuts and eating the cat. (I am just joking I would eat the dog first he has more meat on him.) Is anyone else drinking a lot or am I the only one? Not sure my input here is good since we're at such different stages... but didn't want you to think your post was going ignored. Right now I am consuming about 1200 calories. Ouch! 1200 is a good range for a bandster to be in. Getting hungrier each day is normal - you're healing, your body is more and more ready for food, etc. Do what you can to follow the diet, but my perosnal advice - if you're hungry, eat. Not "if you're not full, eat" but if you're truly hungry. Stop eating when you're no longer hungry, not when you're full. Is anyone else experiencing these issues? Or should I just give up and start chowing down on the pets?I lost my appetite a few days before surgery, and it's yet to really return. I am by far one of the exceptions with this. What you're describing sounds pretty much like what we see every day here, so I'd say it's normal.<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

    One month post op

I was obsessed with refried beans. They tasted so good! I often added some shredded cheese and FF greek yogurt. I don't know if you're allowed this yet, but ground turkey and chicken were great, too. I added taco seasoning or other spices and ate them with ff greek yogurt. Also mozzarella cheese sticks.
