Before pre op diet I lose 15lbs on my own, then during pre op diet I lost 8 lbs on the first week of liquid diet and stall for one week have no weight loss. Then went into surgery while having the stall. After the surgery, I gained 7 lbs of water retention from the iv I got from the hospital. It took a few days and get back to my surgery day weight, then I loss about 5 lbs in a week. so almost 2 weeks after surgery only loss 5 lbs. So 16-18lbs is great! I am jelly here. HELP! 7 YR POST OP WASTING BAD LABS HOW TO RECOVER?
Violet P replied to Violet P's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thanks so much for your reply. I've been thinking in old "maintain weight" rules. I'm down to a size 2 and losing . No appetite whatsoever. Nothing tastes good...almost anorexic. Wish I could do reversal, but don't know if it's possible. I revised from VBG because of severe acid reflux. Told could only do Bypass. Now, I feel as I may literally die eariy if I don't get rid of this. I don't cook, so that's out. Frozen meals if Im lucky can do 8 to 10 bites. And that's a 340 calorie total meal. Im probably absorbing about 600 to 700 calories a day if I'm lucky. I think I'm getting anorexic. I have a total revulsion to food. Nothing tastes good! Don't have the energy to even drive to buy milkshakes every day. Can barely get to hematologist. On Vit B12 injections for past 4 weeks, had first Iron infusion last week, getting another next Tuesday. Also taking double dose of strong 8 wk Vit D therapy. Labs are getting much better, but still feel like hell. Super anxiety, memory loss, I am totally overwhelmed. Crying as I'm writing this. God, I wish I had done intensive therapy before I started all of this. It IS the answer for so many, but not for me now at 67. My health is more important. Even though I was obese for 15 years, I had no chronic health conditions. But fearing I would, I chose weight loss surgery. Now, I'm fearing Im going to die early from this. IF a reversal is possible, not even sure I would be a good candidate for surgery until I can get stronger. -

Congrats on your new sleeve! I was revised on May 3rd and am doing well, too! I feel good and am getting stronger every day! Best wishes to you as you continue to heal! Cheers~ Barb -
@@cmblackmon35, congratulations on your loss so far, you are really doing great! I would be very careful about putting a goal out there like losing 25 lbs per month. The reality is you are likely not going to lose that much per month after the first month. It slows down after you get back on regular foods. I have been losing on average 2 lbs per week and that means some weeks I will lose absolutely nothing and other weeks I will lose 5 lbs. If you put that much pressure on yourself you might find yourself really dissappointed which can be demotivating. I think I have seen other revision folks on here as well and they have said with revision, you sometimes lose at a slower rate. I would follow the plan and enjoy life a bit, if you do that the weight loss will simply happen for you. You really are doing fantastic!

How Much Weight Loss During Liquid Diet
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to PhenomenalWoman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first go round (dec 2019) I went from 279 to 264 (15lbs). When I had my revision for gerd (aug 2020) I went from 220 to 212 (8lbs). Both were 2 weeks long. Edited to add- my plan was 3-4 protein shakes a day, all the celery and cucumbers I wanted and 1-2 cups of broth. -
Hey guys! New here and this is my first post. I'm nervous about the revision surgery to RNY because of my bad experience with the Lap Band. I had it done like ten years ago when I was a lot younger, I'm 29 now. There has been a lot of guilt and shame from not meeting my goals. I was so ashamed I have spent most of my 20s trying to forget about it because I thought I was the only one who had this experience. Recently I have learned that I was not the only one who has been through this and it is very common. This has been very uplifting and I reached out to a surgeon who I plan on doing the revision to RNY procedure. I guess I'm looking for some people to connect with and share similar issues and experiences. Also I'm wondering what to expect. I'm 6'5" a bit over 400 lbs. Thanks for reading looking forward to a response. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Newbie :) surgery date 5/10/18
Whitney W replied to LovableLisha's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats on getting your surgery date. I'm still working on getting mine because I have to have back surgery first. Places like this is a great place to get support. If you need anything just ask I'm having revision surgery done once I get to have it. I've had the lap band for 8 years now and have had some problems with it. All surgeries dangerous or have risk but you just have to face them head on. Hang in there you will do great. -
Can I go from a gastric bypass to a Sleeve?
Introversion replied to Lboogie82's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I forgot to address this aspect of the original poster's question. Revision from bypass to sleeve is possible. In fact, it's been performed on a few occasions. However, revision to a less potent surgical tool is usually ineffective. https://www.sages.org/meetings/annual-meeting/abstracts-archive/revision-of-roux-en-y-gastric-bypass-to-sleeve-gastrectomy-and-hiatal-hernia-repair/ -

Pregnant with TWINS!!!!!!
aligmamma replied to Newme76's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi Newme! Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel! I am almost 16 weeks pregnant with TWINS!!!! Never in my life did I think i'd be having twins. I was banded may of 08 and found out may 0f 09 that i was pregnant. Just this last week i started feeling a little discomfort at my port site. It's nothing bad but just a little uncomfortable like a mild burning. But it's usually short lived. I hope it doesn't get worse. I am concerned about how big my belly is going to get with twins and how the port is going to do. I've had 2 port revisions so i'm a little nervous about it. Let's keep in touch! -
The 'No Restriction' Support Thread
Mid West replied to Mid West's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The more I think about this, the more simple it gets. Those of us who don't feel restriction have pouches that are just too big to make any (or very little) difference. The pouch is guess work for the surgeon, unlike with the sleeve where they use a bougie and sew around it to create a fairly uniformed sleeve, depending on the size of the bougie used. There are several articles out there that say the size of the new stomach is a major factor in the success or failure of bypass surgery. Given this, and the fact that the first 6 months are the most important in weight loss surgery and the fact that the pouch will stretch over time (according to veterans on this site), I have a question ... If your surgeon were to offer you a revision to reduce the size of the pouch further, would you do it? Would you put yourself through another surgery? -
Are the sleevers former lap banders who had revision, by any chance?

Sleeve vs Bypass, fighting my sweet tooth on preop diet
Kim Benton replied to Knittychic's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had gastric sleeve in 10/2013 and even with following the diet plan I still felt hungry, cravings don't go away and the sleeve allows slider foods and sweets to go down without complications and I now have GERD. I lost 63 lbs of the 100 lbs I needed to lose and have slowly been creeping back up. I am in the beginning stages of having a sleeve to bypass revision. Only you know what's best for your situation but I just wanted to share my experience. Good luck. -
Snacking and eating even when I'm not hungry
Serena89 replied to tigraq08's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had revision RNY a year ago this month. I have lost 92 pounds and I deal with this problem as well. I don't overeat, but I am definitely eating foods bad for me almost every day. I have fibro, headaches, and just a lot of daily pain; so going for a walk is difficult for me a lot of the time. I try only having healthy alternatives in the house (baked chips, halo top, fruit... and when I'm having better days I bake healthy versions). I also do adult coloring books and Xbox. What I really think is the best is getting together with friends... play some cards! -
On the road again, just can’t wait to get...
vic91218 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everybody. I’m new here and I’m wondering if any of you out there make a living on the road? I’m a professional musician, and I’ve been touring constantly for the last 15 years. I had the LapBand surgery in 2008. I weighed 425lbs, and lost just over 100lbs. Since then however, I gained a lot of it back. :( in 2017, I weighed 380lbs again. I’m pretty sure it was me that failed the band, but either way, I finally made it back to my surgeon to discuss options earlier this year. I’ve been working hard and I’m down to 318. I’m ready to take a new step, and have made the decision, along with my surgeon, to move forward with a revision surgery schedule now for Dec 12th. I was approved by my insurance and all seems well.... However, I’m of course nervous. Giving my past failing with the band, road life, being sedentary for so many hours at a time.... I’m just wondering if anyone else is living out on the highway? Truck drivers, other musicians, etc. What do you do for excelsior? Food? Any advice or tips? My biggest concern and point of stress is, I return to touring Dec 27th. Right when I’m making a proposed transition from liquids to purées. I’m wondering how I’m going to manage that while touring. How to prepare for those two weeks I’ll be traveling, spending most my time in a bus, or hotel room. I hope everyone is doing well today. Thank you for reading and thank you for your response. Looking forward to chatting with some of you. :) Cheers! -
Vsg/bypass in Ohio anyone ? 7/28
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Thicc chick 504's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’ve lost about 45lbs in 7 months but overall since being with my surgeon I’ve lost a little over 100lbs. I haven’t had the revision yet but I’m hoping soon because the GERD from the hernia is no joke. Try not to be scared. It’s an amazing tool and gateway to a healthier life. Also, I asked for medicine cups to get in my water while in the hospital which helped. Having water at different temperatures also helped find one I tolerated best. And walking does help with any pain you might have. Wear a binder if they offer you one. -
Stupid BMI requirements/Food funerals!

You could have intentionally bad posture that day. If you don't stand up too straight when your height is measured, it will revise your BMI upward. <innocent whistling> -
Unexplained Weight gain post revision
starladustangel replied to starladustangel's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Some of the Facebook groups are odd The strangest response I got was someone questioning why my surgeon would do a revision for GERD when I didn't need to lose more weight. And someone else questioning my dietitian for not having me on moderate carbs instead of keto. She's been my dietitian for 2.5 years since I was pre op VSG. Thank you -
Unexplained Weight gain post revision
GreenTealael replied to starladustangel's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
*Not a doctor, just personal experience plus asking doctors a lot of questions* Not everything is food related after surgery, especially if you are diligently tracking and seeing a dietitian. The temporary weight loss/gain could be: 1. Dehydration causing water retention (noticed reduced urination? May need electrolyte supplementation) 2. Disruption of normal lymphatic activities because of surgery (excess fluid still in circulation, puffy or swollen anywhere?) 3. Slight level of constipation (still have waste that has not vacated despite amount of trips to the bathroom) 4. Inflammation after surgery (edema of the abdomen because of the laparoscopic procedure-usually immediate and not super common) 4. Return to your maintenance weight after temporary drop (happened to me in the first 2 months- 2 weeks post revision I hit 10-12 lbs lower than my maintenance weight then went back to normal) 5. Hormonal response (menses/menopause - I ALWAYS gain before my cycle ) 6. Incorrect scale/discrepancy of scales used (I always weighed different amounts on doctor’s scales vs mine) 8. A combination of things Please let us know what the surgeon says! -
Mine was 05, its 4 years now. Jack's at least 5 years. Marmar, in all honesty, you probably wont have your band in 30 or 40 years time. Every bit of research I did, and my own surgeon, led me to believe that theoretically, the band COULD be in there for a lifetime, but that in reality, probably the balloon will fail over time (yet another reason to avoid stuffing round with it too much, fill/unfill/fill and unfill again) and it will need to be replaced. Also, we just dont know how over a 20 or 30 year time frame our bodies will adapt to the band. After 4 years, my band works absolutely fine, my appetite and what I can eat low enough to keep me at a pretty thin weight. However, i've definitely learned to eat around my band, I know how to get food in when I feel like a bit of a pig out, I know how to manage it to eat foods I shouldnt eat but want to eat, etc. I remain dedicated 150% to running for an hour a day. THAT makes at least as much difference to my weight as my band does. I feel more in control of that, more able to guarantee I'll keep doing it than I do making promises about my eating behaviour. but every year goes by, I figure, thats one more year my body has been used to being thin. I truly think if I can strike up 5 years of normal weight, surely that has to count for something. Surely I can eventually establish a new normal for my body that it wont want to stray from quite so easily? who knows really? But I'd rather have taken this risk, and this leap of faith than stayed the way i was. And truly, I'm not the least bit worried about the band failing/breaking. That's easily fixed with another surgery. What, I'd be considering getting my boobs done but a second lapband surgery is the worst thing that could ever happen? I just dont understand that from the lapband knockers - they bleat about how they dont want to have second surgeries whilst in the next post they're talking about their tummy tucks. Makes no sense to me at all. Then again, our health system here is such that any revision surgery I may need wont cost me a cent. What I am worried about is my resolve, my continued behaviours, and my body deciding that fat is what it is meant to be. Hopefully none of that comes to pass.

Hey Typo - 1st step - you are here. 2nd step - you realize what you did in error, and are willing to change. 3rd step - Let's try and keep motivated - I was banded 2 years ago, just had a revision, and want to start losing again too. I need to plan out my food, keep the crap (slider foods) out of the house, and get to the gym at least 3x's a week. I am commited to it. Brenda:thumbup: -

Band doc said get it checked out and he could take my gallbladder out, if it is that...i will say get the band out, so i can just eat salad's/meat's/veggies again!! -
Five years banded and I have fallen off the bandster wagon,I need some advice...
Maddysgram replied to schampange's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was just diagnosed with a completely flipped port. Having revision surgery this Wednesday. The only difference I can feel is a slight twinge of pain when I lay on the port side. I have no restriction or reflux at all. That's why it is so important to go to Dr. Living with reflux is not good. Just explain to the Dr. that you fell on hard times and didn't have the money, which I'm sorry you're going through that, its rough. 6yrs ago my husband was self employed and we had no insurance, you just don't go to the Dr. What happened to the days no one had health insurance and anyone could go to a Dr? Miss them days. Keep us posted.
