    Social Eating

While 1/2 c is typical in the beginning, you will be able to eat more as time passes. At 5 months out and 70+ lbs down, my work lunch is often something like a few slices of deli meat and a low fat Greek yogurt. I eat with the same folks everyday at work and they know about my surgery. I simply said "this is what I'm doing, so this is what you'll notice". No biggie. They were more curious than anything else and had questions which I was happy to answer. Now people who know me realize I don't give a rats *ss what they say so I have had no negative feedback. That may be a factor LOL Seriously, if I want medical advice I ask my surgeon and nutritionist. No one pays any attention to my food at lunch. Much too busy enjoying each other's company ????

    August 5th...

Awesome! You seem to be doing well! I'm still on the full liquid so I've only be eating cottage cheese, different low fat/low sodium Soups (no potato allowed, my fav????), and yogurt. It's going down well I haven't gotten sick once since surgery, just some discomfort when I swallow anything, I need to ask my doctor about that on my 2 week post op on Wednesday. That's when I'm hoping to get advanced to the soft foods stage! I have yet to really use the bathroom but once and it was uncomfortable to say the least. I also have a hard time consuming all the Water requirements, & sometime I can't get all my Protein in either!???? Since moving from clear liquid to full liquid i have yet to loose another pound, & some days I've gained one or two! Another thing to ask my doctor on Wednesday! Other than that it's been an easier recovery that I expected!!

    2 months postop- nagging nausea

I was the same way. I stopped eating the soft pureed foods & went back to protein shakes, yogurts & puddings & it's helped. The pain when eating has gotten better & the nausea this week is better. I had one day of feeling faint & weak & protein shake helped.
  5. I'm at the end of my 3rd week post op. This week I've felt very tired and fatigued. I feel faint when I stand which concerns me and at times my lips look purple :/ I have not lost any weight this week.not sure if it's because I'm barely eating or because when I do its not a great choice. Im on soft foods but have a hard time eating more that 3-4 bites or spoons. EverythING I swallow hurts. I feel little pains at my incision sites once food is down. To help ease the swallow, I've been eating Soups like broccoli cheese Soup from Jason's deli, smoothies and soupy mashed potatoes.maybe it's too much carbs. I will also sip yogurt smoothies Or a bit of applesauce. An avocado the other day almost made me throw up. I dont know why. But i could not lay down or id feel it coming back up.I'm still barely eating. I wonder if Protein shakes will help with energy and boost weightloss? Also, everything I eat I feel sitting in my throat. Like it wants to come up but it doesn't.

    Surgery day , day 2, day 3

Surgery day, Surgery was a breeze, I was out before I even knew I went into surgery. However, after I could'nt wake up from the anesthesia. I went to the bathroom asleep, did the barium swallow asleep and my dr. requires you to drink a bottle of water before leaving. I slept through that too. I would take a sip, fall asleep, then wake up, take a sip, fall asleep. I have no idea how long it took me to drink that water. Food on surgery day: 2 1/2 cups of creamy broccoli soup that I found in the organic section(this is the yummiest soup I have had in a long time) small sips of crystal light lemonade small sips of water all day Day 2, This was my most painful day so far The general anesthesia wore off and It was miserable all day. The pain wasn't unbearable, just miserable. I took more than the recommended dosage of the pain meds I think. I look 7 months pregnant. It's kind of cute because for medical reasons I can't have any more children. So I found it adorable that I looked 7 months pregnant for a day. My mom took me for my walk. I held my belly as if I was pregnant and got a few smiles from people. It hurt the most to get up and down from the chair and on and off the bed. I was really hungry all day today. I recognize my full feeling from reading this forum, however if I hadn't have known what to expect, I would have kept eating not realizing my limitations. I had a LOT of gas this day, but not in my shoulder like other people complained about. I would burp about once an hour and it would come from way down the bottom of my stomach and resonate all the way up. He He, by far the loudest and longest burps I have ever done. Food day 2: container of yogurt for breakfast, couldnt finish it all before I got full. no salt added butternut squash soup for lunch, found it in the organic section. (it was sooo yummy but not as good as the creamy broccoli, LOL) Dinner I had what was left of the creamy broccoli soup. It wasn't quite a full serving, so I had a feeling I would be hungry later. evening snack: I only had this because I felt excruciatingly hungry. I made a 3/4 of low sodium chicken broth. I put a bit of mrs. dash in it and heated it in a coffee cup. I sipped it like it was a warm cup of tea on a cold day. I wasnt able to finish it all before I felt full Day 3 I slept 18 hours straight. I haven't done that in a LONG time. I woke up this afternoon and a good bit of my sweeling has gone down. and the pain isn't nearly as bad as it was yesterday. I haven't even taken my pain meds yet and I seem fine so far. For Breakfast: I am having a yogurt cup that I put a half of scoop of unjury powder in and mixed. It does change the flavor, but I guess its ok for now. Dinner: homemade egg salad with 2 eggs, fat free mayo, dill relish and a dash of mustard. I ate about 2/3's of it. Dinner: 1/2 butternut squash soup, but could only eat 1/4 cup. Evening snack: low sodium V-8

If you are two months out can you not eat food? What happens when you eat things like Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, turkey, tuna or other fish, chicken, etc.?

I eat a lot of yogurt lamb chops turkey deli rolled up no bread at all no Pasta pizza half slice from whole foods only I find I can only eat foods from whole foods or the fresh market, I hope you all make it you all sound excited also go to the support meetings wonderful. for Protein extra protein I use Proteinex from amazon p18 or p 100 I put it in my cherry yogurt from oikos I go to Vitamin shoppe get banana bites good for potassium love them small bag $1.99b 400mgs Vitamins chewable for me and nascobal b12 then I have chewable b12 and b complex Multivitamin chewables just as good as what the doctors office uses

I have pred as a back up when Im flaring bad with lupus or fibro pain is out of control but its been 5 months since Iv need it. when I did take it def watched salt intake, it messes with insulin an its a roller coaster. have to make a mindful effort to hide everything an I dont buy the junk to bring in house! I even put the hubs on restrictions..lol..if he had to have ice cream in the house (of course) it is weight watchers. an I keep raw pecans, carbmaster yogurt (kroger) there less then 4 carbs per cup, small apples, cheese stix, always easy to grab protein...I have a love hate relationship with pred..I dont want to use it so I avoid as much as possible but I know some dont have a choice so just watch what you bring in the house I uess is bottom line!

    Hungry?

I am 12 days post op today. I am not feeling and hunger pains nor do I feel when I am full. I can eat a cup of sf pudding or 4 oz of greek yogurt. Kinda worried about this. Anyone else having this problem?

    Hungry?

I think it took me time to figure it out. Is it really a cup or a 4 oz cup you buy in the store? Somethings slide down fast and easy. I could hold a whole 6 oz of yogurt in the beginning but give me a piece of chicken and it is only 2-3 oz and I am full. I hope it works this way for you too.

    MAY 17TH SLEEVERS????

I'm jumping in late, but I was May 17th, too! Happy 5 weeks to us! I weighed in today and I'm down 20 lbs on the nose from surgery day (39 from pre-surgery diet). I was hoping to get into the 2-teens by today, but I'll take 221 I'm eating everything except raw veggies and steak, though Martha Sugalski I really only eat the same few things (protein shake every morning, greek yogurt, tuna creations or chicken for lunch, cheese sticks for snacks and some kid of meat or fish for dinner. I'm still not enjoying food like I used to, eating seems more like a chore these days -- which is fine, it could be worse, right??? Hope you ladies are doing well!

    Banded July 2013

I weighted 217 when I had my surgery. I'm now 190. I go to the gym for two hours 4 days a week. I do cardio and strength training. I also walk a lot. I don't count calories but I try and sick to three meals a day. If im starving then I have a snack. My Dailey meal plains looks something like this: Greek yogurt plan with maybe a banana or a Protein shake with kale. A salad with grilled chicken or maybe a turkey chili or left overs from dinner. Or a Kale shake. Dinner is 4 oz of protein and a green veggie if I have room. I have an appoint with my dr this Friday! I'm just so disappointed I thought I would have done better!
  17. I had my surgery with Dr. Ariel Ortiz in Mexico over two years ago. Even then His dietician STRONGLY recommended the use of probiotics. She wanted us on drinkable yogurts with live cultures starting 3 days postop. They also offer and encourage their patients to use their line of bariatric Vitamins that include a probiotic supplement. I did not use their line, but I do take whole food based vitamins that include prebiotics, probiotics and digestive enzymes. I also eat Greek yogurt with live cultures every day. I lost over 100% of my excess weight and have kept it off for two years. I have no idea how much of an impact the probiotics played because it's something I've taken from the very beginning.

    Microbiology research questions

That is quite good to know (the pushing of a yogurt rich diet). Depending upon the brand and such, they can have an extremely varied microbe content. I suppose an interesting test would be to break down post surgical success based upon which yogurt brands (and in turn, which microbes) lead to the most desirable outcome. That experiment would be much further down the line however LOL. Speaking with my mother, she remembers being pushed into an extremely high protein diet post bypass, and told to avoid fruits and vegetables. I had forgotten that fact. Thanks for the insight, Brad

    Easter NSV

I did pretty well at Easter dinner. My husband bbq'd chicken and he leaves the sauce for the side. My Mother had a plain fruit bowl, so that was my meal. While everyone else had brownies and ice cream, I had cherry yogurt. My brother's boys are 3 and 14, so of course we had an Easter egg hunt for the 3 yr old. Beautiful day! The highlight of my day was a call from my nephew, the marine. He is a gorgeous specimen at 6'7" and of course in excellent shape....he and his wife both! I had responded to an email from his wife and included a recent picture. He told me on the phone yesterday that when she showed it to him, he said, "that is not my Aunt!". He told me how proud and excited he is for me and just went on and on! It was just fabulous and he genuinely meant every word. I adore him and he is such a wonderful young man. We are very proud of him! The son I never had....
  20. Couldn't take my meds either. It was at the point where I would hate yogurt and pudding for the rest of my life if I continued to mix my meds in them. Doctor said it was okay to forgo the gallbladder medicine. I called my shrink to get my usual prescription in an orally dissolvable tablet. My insurance didn't cover it and they wanted $800 for a month's supply. I'm off two meds so far until I can swallow tablets. I've got 2.5 weeks to go. It's insane. I hear you!! Gas X strips were useless on me too! Started taking children's dose of milk of magnesia twice a day and my cramping and bloating finally went away in about two days. Wasn't getting enough water in either. I started drinking out of a 24 oz tumbler with a straw (big no no) and found that I drink my crystal light water like it's Diet Coke. LOL For some reason the tumbler and straw have helped me reached my water goals. I didn't think it would be this difficult. Once I think I have something down, I need to figure something else out. Everything feels so up in the air - Well, I'll try this, and ok, let's see what happens if I do this..nope, gotta try something else. It's such new ground and there's no way for us to predict how our bodies will react to anything right now. It's very frustrating when at the same time we need to follow guidelines from the surgeon.

    Keep me in check:)

@@Woodland4807 Ok, you asked us to keep you in check. That says to me you already know you are doing something you shouldn't be. #1 - you are likely not getting enough Protein in. If this is close to your daily routine, then you can expect to get sick down the road or lose more of your hair than you would if you were getting your protein. You are in control of this. #2 - I would not expect to see pizza on your approved foods list at 5 weeks post op. It is clearly not the healthiest choice for you right now. It does not mean that you can never have a piece of pizza again, but it will be sometime before your new tummy is ready for that. If you need a snack at this point, I would suggest either adding another protein shake in which would boost your protein count or stick with things that have a high protein value like lunch meat, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese, nuts or seeds. Jerkey is also an excellent option You are doing fantastic! Steer clear of things that can make you stall like the carbs in that pizza. Many complications can be avoided from WLS by following the plan provided by your doctor exactly. It is fantastic that your exercise routine is so strong at this stage as well. Keep up the great work and you will reach your goals before you know it!

8 months out, 85 lbs down!

I initially started to eat the triple zero yogurt but really didn't like it afterwards so now I just eat the Chobani and it works very well yes it has some sugar but it also has protein and one fills me up and it's actually a meal. [emoji175]sonkat5355[emoji175]
  23. @@Jerr_Bear - This works for non meat eaters as well. I just get BeyondMeat crumbles. To @@JennG25 - You can really eat just about anything. Just keep it simple and make sure it's moist. eggs cooked any way you like them. Also greek yogurt really is a power house. I add a scoop of Protein powder and let it chill to a pudding consistency.
  24. I leave for work every day at early-thirty so for Breakfast most days lately I have at my desk either a string cheese and a few triscuts or a greek yogurt with pecans. Sometimes if I'm on the ball and have boiled eggs the night before I will have a boiled egg. For lunch I pretty much always take whatever dinner leftovers I had from the night before. Here is a dinner idea and go to this website for a ton of great recipes from a bariatric surgery patient who loves to cook! http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ Lime Shrimp and Avocado salad 1 lb jumbo cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined, chopped 1 medium tomato, diced 1 avocado diced 1 jalepeno, seeded and diced fine ¼ c chopped red onion 2 limes 1 t olive oil 1 T chopped cilantro Salt and pepper In small bowl mix onion, juice of the limes, olive oil, and pinch of salt and pepper. Let marinate for 5 min. In a larger bowl mix other ingredients and then toss lightly with dressing.1 jalapeno, seeds removed, diced fine 1/4 cup chopped red onion 2 limes, juice of 1 tsp olive oil 1 tbsp chopped cilantro salt and fresh pepper to taste Directions In a small bowl combine red onion, lime juice, olive oil, pinch of salt and pepper. Let them marinate at least 5 minutes to mellow the flavor of the onion. In a large bowl combine chopped shrimp, avocado, tomato, jalapeno. Combine all the ingredients together, add cilantro and gently toss. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.
  25. I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op. I've been eating 2oz puréed food at a sitting. Today for breakfast I was able to eat 4oz lite dannon yogurt until full. Does this make since. Later on I was back to 2oz refried beans and was full with that. Thanks in advance for your support!
