My RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery
plane224 replied to DangerMouse007's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't know if you have talked to your nutritionist about having high protein snacks. I eat a lot of 80 cal fit and light Greek yogurt. It has 12 grams of protein. I have found that high protein snacks can help get me through the day. I try for 3 meals and 2 snacks. Some days I don't make the 3 meals. I am working on the 75-90grams of protein. I hope this helps -

So I don't think soup and yogurt settle with me due to my milk intolerance. I woke up with a tummy ache and have had it pretty much all day off n on. I also haven't been to the bathroom in a week so that probably doesn't help. I will try miralax tommrow since I'm past 5 days. I am also having really bad left side pain like I pulled a muscle so I probably did while trying to clean up around my house a little bit. I've been taking it easy today. I am also having some back pain to where it feels so tired but can't relax. My body feels like that too. Like I'm anxious. I don't think my body is used to me being such a bum lately. I am usually working or cleaning. I also don't have good posture due to my insicions. I'm relaxing now in my recliner in my bedroom with the heating pad -

Since I ate everything with a tablespoon pre-op, switching to a teaspoon is using s smaller spoon. I did get some appetizer spoons rather than toddler spoons. I still use one of those to eat things like yogurt. It really does help me to take smaller bites. If you use a teaspoon then try using just the tip rather than a full teaspoon full. It takes practice but I think that taking smaller bites, eating slowly, and chewing thoroughly really makes a difference. The benefit is that I get to really taste my food. -

I am on soft foods right now, so cream of wheat, refried beans, drinkable yogurt, some soup. I can't have meat yet, so it's really hard to find mushy food with a lot of protein. -
when adding the Protein powder to your coffee or hot chocolate remember you put one scoop in a cup and add a little cold Water until it is runny like pancake batter and then slowly stir in your coffee and it wont lump up. I had to learn the hard way on this. LOL Great way to get in your protein. I also hate taking Vitamins and having a hard time with it. I ran out of my Patches but I came across the website and went ahead and ordered me some more. I usually get them at my Dr. apt but its a 1 1/2 drive away and not very convenient for me. They should be arriving any day now. I am sick of Protein drinks so what I do is smoothies instead. Add Greek Yoplait yogurt strawberry cheesecake (100 calories and 13 g of protein) with a scoop of unjury Protein Powder a little milk and cut up a banana and it is amazing!!!!!! Good luck and let us know how your check up goes!

I just stop after a couple bites. It's so hard not to drink water after bites too. Definitely with yogurt since it's so thick. I will probably talk to Thompson on Wednesday about how to eat and how to figure everything out. -
Anyone have RNY on 01-18-16
prdmommyof3 replied to Lyndzee104's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey there! I had my surgery on 1/11 and am feeling, for the most part, great! I cannot eat very well yet. Greek yogurt and cottage cheese goes down great, but when it comes to my "moist meat", I have a difficult time. I'm down 20 pounds since surgery day, and my dr was not very happy with my loss. She thought I should have been down more. So, here we are a week later, and I haven't lost a single once since my 1 month appointment. This is very difficult! -

I had my sleeve surgery 1/20/16 and I took a 3 day trip to Las Vegas on 2/11/16 (3 weeks post op). Now, I know everyone recovers differently but I was completely useless for the first 2.5weeks. I was worried about taking my trip but started to get some energy back a couple days before I left. I completely understand what you're going through. I apologize in advance, this may be lengthy, especially since it's fresh in my mind. I think the most difficult thing is going to be food. At three weeks I was supposed to be on a puréed diet. That was incredibly difficult while traveling!!! I am having trouble with Protein shakes post op, no matter what I try I just can't stomach them. That would have been my go to, but I just couldn't do it. I ate mostly yogurt and eggs and those 1 oz packages of peanut or almond butter (I can't remember the brand. It's all natural, no sugars or anything). But, I also ate things that weren't puréed. I didn't have a choice in some places. There just aren't many options on a puréed diet. I did get sick once from eating 2 French fries. I just didn't want to spend so much money on an entire meal when I really shouldn't have been eating any of the foods they had to offer and would only be able to eat a couple bites anyway, and I figured French fries were soft so I just took a couple from someone else's plate. Not a good idea! No more fried things for me!! It didn't help that our hotel room didn't have a fridge or anything, so I couldn't buy yogurts or anything to keep in the room. I did, however, make sure I had a Water bottle on me at all times. I'm not sure what stage of the diet you will be on during your trip, but I would definitely consider what your options would be. As far as rescheduling your trip, and I'm assuming that this is just for pleasure since you're wondering about postponing, I would do some research online or by phone. Look at where you will be staying and local restaurants and any outings you have planned. Most places offer menus online, try to find things that will work for your diet. Even call them and see if they will be accommodating. Also, look at who you will be traveling with. Do they know about your surgery and diet restrictions? Are they going to be supportive and understanding? I think if you will be able to find foods that will fit your diet you will be fine. I had energy back by that point and besides having trouble with food, I had a phenomenal trip. Good luck with your surgery and have fun in Hawaii! Thanks for the information... As I was reading your post I called my BF and told him we are not rescheduling! The room we are staying in had a full kitchen so I will be able to keep The yogurts on hand. I will definitely be checking the surrounding areas now that you mentioned the online menus! THANKS FOR THE GREAT ADVICE ???????????????????? -

You are so lucky your doc lets you eat soup, pudding and yogurt at 10 days! I could only have liquids until 21 days. I am now on soft foods, but soup and pudding were definitely not recommended. It is just grand being able to at least eat some things, though! Good luck and try to follow your doc's instructions.....

I understand the hunger but bacon & potato soup (while i believe you chewed it to death) wasn't a great choice. Your Dr & seems like your BF just want you to succeed... I'd like to suggest some tomato soup with fat free refried beans mixed in until thick as pudding. I find the protein from the beans really sticks with me. If you take the same logic and mix things into the plain Greek yogurt maybe you can work with that? I've taken peeled, seeded cucumber with a bunch of fresh dill and black pepper - tossed it all in my nutrabullet and it was extremely smooth, filling & tasty. Wishing you the best! So I'm 10 days post op and I'm feeling super hungry. I'm allowed clear liquids and full liquids which also include strained cream soups, pudding, and yogurt. The only food that fills me up is greek yogurt but it has to be plain. I can't eat plain so I decided to get vanilla which isn't my favorite and honestly my palette is kinda sick of sweet foods. Soup is okay but not filling at all, so today I decided to try Progressos light potato and bacon without being strained. I chewed each piece up really good and gave it time to go down. I feel fine and satisfied for once. My boyfriend yelled at me saying I should stick to what my doctors say. Opinions/experiences? Sent from my SM-G900P using BariatricPal

2/9 Surgery Date Team
losinglily replied to Positive44's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I totally agree with MxKitty. 12 pounds is awesome! 10,000 steps will have you hurting. It's really interesting how different each doctor is in terms of recommended diet, check ups, etc. I had a phone consultation with a nurse last Tue. (1 week) and will see my doctor on the 25th. I feel like I'm doing really well. Went out in the sunlight today (feared I might go blind, but didn't) to visit my mom. I took my Shake and yogurt with me. I feel like I'm a baby on a feeding schedule! It will be nice when we can eat real food and blend in with the crowd. Oh, one thing: still no BM! I've been taking a stool softener every day. Suggestions? Don't want to die from poo poisoning or anything like that! Lol! -
We were told no alcohol for at least a year. I am just staying away. I do not want to drink any calories except my Protein shake. I don't tend to have a lot of variety in my meals. I just don't have the room in my stomach. I am 9 months out and at goal weight (over 150 pounds lost). I work out 6 days a week. Just to get that out there. I typically eat around 800 to 1400 calories a day. It really depends on the day! For Breakfast it is usually a Protein Shake and a turkey sausage patty. Some days it is eggs and turkey sausage. Some days it is sugar free oatmeal. Those are my 3 to-gos for breakfast. For lunch, I either have zoodles with sauce and turkey meatballs, chicken and a green vegetable, Soup. dinner...we do "dump meals" that I prepare ahead of time and then freeze and then heat in crockpot. So, salsa chicken, orange chicken, bbq chicken, etc. Also fish, shrimp, or whatever we what on the grill. We usually have a green veggie with it. Snacks are usually greek yogurt, turkey, cheese, etc. Since I am in maintenance, my surgeon and NUT says I can have whatever I want in limited portions. I stay away from any trigger foods from my past. I still limit sugar and fried foods. I say all of that to say this: in losing mode, you have to be super strict. I see maintenance mode as just a modified version of that. Doc says to eat clean 5 to 6 days a week. That's pretty much how we operate. I do get carbs like brown rice, oatmeal, carrots. I eat air popped popcorn as a snack sometimes. Going out is hard. I can make wings at home that are baked without the skin so the calories are very minimal. I can only eat one wing though and some veggies. I still portion out my food on regular basis. I know my stomach can handle a half cup of regular food or almost a full cup of soup. If that is what it takes, then carry around measuring cups. I do!

Soft foods yay! Suggestions?
JamieLogical replied to Melanie28's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Definitely NOT tortillas or bagels. First of all, those are carbs and you should be steering clear of them in general (not just through the post-op food phases). Second of all, I wasn't allowed any "soft whole grains" until I was in my solid food stage. For soft foods I was allowed yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken and tuna salad, scrambled eggs, oatmeal with Protein powder, flaky fish, ground or chopped meats, legumes (Beans and lentils), and canned or steamed veggies. I recall doing a lot of string cheese, shelly's baked ricotta (Google the recipe), scrambled eggs with melted cheese and taco sauce, refried beans, and Wendy's chili. -
your doctor's office probably has a list of foods - I know mine did. Pretty much anything with the consistency of yogurt or cottage cheese. Scrambled eggs, re-fried Beans, etc. I wouldn't do tortillas or bagels for at least a few more months. Your stomach is still trying to heal from surgery and you don't want something to get stuck. Again, check with your doctor's office - and I think there is probably a thread here somewhere that covers this subject pretty well... Congrats on getting to the soft food stage. I remember that going on soft foods helped make me feel more normal after shakes for so many weeks.

Weight gain during 6months...
Margie122 replied to betterme38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
betterme38 I lost a decent amount of weight before my surgery. This is what I did. 1) I started eating like a bariatric patient - protein/veg - cut carbs drastically. I also drank no Water 1/2 before or after meals. I found that I was less hungry doing this. 2) I drank a ton of water at other times. I have a 32 oz bottle that I filled twice and made sure I drank throughout the day. 3) I replaced one meal (breakfast) with a Protein shake. I found one I liked and stuck with it. On weekends I would have scrambled eggs instead of Protein shakes. 4) Healthy Snacks - yogurt, string cheese, etc. 5) I hit a plateau and was stuck at a certain weight for a few weeks...the only thing that helped me get through it was upping the intensity of my exercise. You can do it! Oh and practice CHEWING each bite 20-30 times and put the fork down between bites. The other things I did - I bought smaller forks/spoons and plates. I still eat off them now. It works. -
I like Siggi's plain - for recipes in place of sour cream. They have a delicious raspberry and strawberry yogurt too. They've got other flavors but I don't care for those fruits. A serving is 100 calories, 0g fat, 12g carbs, 11g sugars, and 14g of Protein. The stuff is YUMMO.

What should I eat to get ready for surgery
OutsideMatchInside replied to Kgacia's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Find Protein shakes that you like, that don't seem like punishment. So many people have surgery and hate Protein Shakes, that just makes your life a lot harder. Find other sources of protein you like. Try yogurts, etc. It is better to know what you like now, than wait until you have a small healing stomach and have to guess. -
Tomorrow will be my 2nd nutritional visit and weigh in. I had my upper GI done this morning and had to swallow 3 different types of liquids for the procedure. One was a heavy solid white liquid...literally heavy. Im wondering if this hindered my weight of I havent digested it all yet. I ate pretty healthy today ..lots pf Protein..veggies and Water. To be exact I ate a 20gm Protein Bar for late Breakfast, 26g protein chicken breast pattie with spinach, walnut salad for lunch with vinagrette, 2 dried mango slices and yogurt for snack...30g Protein shake for dinner and tons of water. I just stepped on the scale and I am up 3 lbs in 1 day. .WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED??? You would think that I pigged out on junk food but I kid you not, i had no junk today. Needless to say I am quite nervous about my nut appt tomorrow. ..if i step on that scale and weigh only 1 lb less than what i did at the first appt...or worse ..weigh more..that cant be good. Im getting so close to completing everything I need and would hate to go backwards at this point.

Well I went to my in laws tonight for a bit and then to Kroger. The store was horrible. I ended up dizzy and we didn't stay long. I felt better once I got into the car. I carry my water every where. Just never know what can happen. I started Greek yogurt and it was heaven. I miss food so bad. Everything sounds so good. I can't wait until April 13th lol. -
What's your favorite chicken salad recipe?
Daisee68 replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
Wow some of these sound really good! I typically use rotisserie chicken, red grapes, red onion, dill pickle relish (too lazy to chop pickles myself), Ranch seasoning powder, light mayo and/or a little greek yogurt and chopped pecans. I try to put the Ranch seasoning on the chicken while it is still warm as it seems to absorb the flavoring a little that way. I sometimes add a little garlic salt if more seasoning needed.
