Be careful not to end up so filled that you can't eat more than a couple of shrimp, and a couple of Beans. More often than not, it is counter productive. Restriction is where you can eat a small meal, and stay full for a couple of hours after. Not eating so little that you are starving yourself. Small healthy meals are are what you should be looking at when you ask yourself if you have restriction. Are you staying full for at least a couple of hours after eating some Protein, carbs and veggies? As opposed to feeling depressed because you look down at your plate and see less than an starving child in a third world country would eat? Full is often described here as a bursting at the seems type feeling, whereas it should really be described as a contented feeling. Full and overeating are often confused. And how often should you have a fill? That is between you and your doctor. Often doctors will not do fills any sooner than 2 weeks apart. Why? It can take 2 weeks for any swelling to go down that the fill may have caused. And it also gives you a chance to get used to the new fill amount, also to see if you have lost any weight. Because if you are losing weight, while eating small healthful meals, and exercising, you do not need a fill.

Honestly, if my insurance had covered this, I probably wouldn't have looked at Mexico, as I didn't know it was an option. So would have had it done by my home. Now, knowing what I know about MX & the doctors there... if I were to get approved by insurance tomorrow (or even a few weeks ago), would I switch? I don't think so! I am totally happy with my choice of Dr's in Mexico.

Im six weeks out and for better or worse, I can tolerate everything! Spices, pasta, lettuce, bread... I've eaten the carbs sparing, but I was secretly hoping my body would reject them... it didn't. haha -

psych meds with bypass
justright66 replied to newmebithebypass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm hoping for a surgery date of late Feb 16 and that is one if my main concerns too. I expect some depression in the first few weeks because that seems a common thing but I am really concerned as to weather my antidepressants will be effective. It's taken me many years to get the balance right.. my pharmacist couldn't shed much light on it... so I am interested to hear the feedback too. -
Hi everyone. I just have a few questions. I am four months out (April 29th) and to date have lost 39lbs. I just had my third fill on Wednesday of last week. I have 6.5ccs in my 10cc band. Here I go, did many of you find that you cannot eat alot of the foods that you did previously, after you hit (Sweet Spot) a majority of your band? I have a horrible time lately (the last week) with meats and grains. I try to eat a little grains as possible, but this week, none. They just will not go down. I eat some meat and I am wondering...Am I overeating? I stop when I feel the full feeling, but the pressure just builds and builds. I have thrown up a few time over the last week (at least once a day, maybe twice) due to the choices I am making. I have no problems with liquids, soups and mashed potatoes but am not having luck with much else. Am I too tight? Have I just not given the band enough time out from this last fill to "kindof loosen" and give it a few more days? Will it loosen a little? I decided today to start back on protein drinks and I am taking my vitamins. I woke last night almost choking and coughin (just once before I took a few sips of water) and then awoke again almost choking on the water that came back up. Is this the "dreaded" night cough? It has only happened once, so I guess in order to know or not, I'll keep an eye on it the next few nights. Anyone have any insight? Yes, I could call my dr and will in a bit. I just hate to drive four hours up....for a false alarm. Thank You for the help.

The Good News and the Very, Very Bad News
memeluv replied to nebraskahickchi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not 100% sure but I have always been told that full time employment is based on how many hours you are scheduled to work not what you end up working. Companies have to offer insurance to employee's that work or are scheduled to work 32 hours or more. If you were scheduled to work more then 32 hours a week then you should have been covered. Even if you took sick or vacation time. Vacation time is considered worked hours. I agree with the others I would check into that cause it sounds like your getting screwed. Good luck! I hope that you can prove your job wrong and they have to give it to you. -
I seem to plateau for 2 weeks at a time and then seem to lose 5 pounds in three days. When people talk about average weight loss it's important to remember that it's an average over time not necessarily a steady loss from day to day.

I haven't posted in a couple of weeks, things are hectic here at home, wife was hired for her new job and she is starting her career, halfway point to get her Masters, she will have it in September 2016, and I've given a months notice at work, my last day is December 31st, and I become a full time dad, we went on our first Christmas vacation ever to celebrate and ended up splurging on my wife to get all her work clothes, she wanted to treat me to a night out but when I saw her I was very nervous, it was like when we first met, she looked beautiful, and she hadn't seen me in my new clothes yet, I started this journey in January @ 388lbs, my surgery was on June 10th and I weighed 342.2lbs, my Surgerversity was on December 10th, and on the 12th I weighed 267lbs, I used to be a size 60w, my new pants were a size 48w and my shirt was a 3x( now a 2x since it was loose) the pic where I'm holding our baby I was 367lbs and all subsequent pics were between 350-388lbs, so was it worth it ???? Hell yes, my other pic is my wife in her new clothes and me @ my current weight, I can see and feel a tremendous difference and it makes me wanna work even harder.......

I've read on some blogs that some people have specific exercises for each day of the week eg: monday walking, tuesday gym etc. I'd like to set up a routine so that I wont get bored and hopefully will begin to enjoy exercise. It seems that the people who are really successful have incorporated exercise into their life. So if you have a routine I'd love to hear about it to get ideas please...

I take Wellbutrin SR too, and since it's a time release it can't be crushed either. But my doc said I'll have to switch over to Wellbutrin XL and take it twice a day, crushed until six weeks post op, but that then I'll be able to go back to the SR. He said any pill that's smaller than an M & M should go down okay. Mmmmm......M & Ms.....

I think it will be pushing it. I will be 5 weeks out in Friday. I go back to work next week. Even this morning, I am stiff and sore. At two weeks if I did too much like walking a lot or too much bending I was very sore and swollen. Sent from my iPhone using VST

I agree with Melissa about asking your surgeon this question. I would think that he would have the best advice on this. On a side note. I know someone who had implants, and about 6 weeks after her surgery, someone came from behind and hugged her real tight - even picked her up from behind. Resulting in 1 implant "sinking" under the breast tissue. Its not very noticable to others, but she says with her shirt off, its VERY noticable (one is perky, the other one is not). So I just caution you - if and when you have the implants, just be careful of really tight hugs while you are in the healing phase.

Hi I have the 10 ml band and have had 7 fills. Up until the last one my restriction was lasting about 1 to 2 weeks before going. I prayed it would last but never did till this time. It has lasted a month this time...I have had a binging session the last few days but thats nothing to do with restriction because when I eat good food I have restriction, I only dont have it as Im eating every little it of junk I can get my hands on. In most cases it does take longer to get restriction in the bigger band. But it will come.

Thank you all for your advice. I do get my blood work done on Tuesday so we will see what my levels are then. Thanks for the banana advice. I will slow down and do something lighter for the next few weeks. I do appreciate all the advice.

Had Surgery Yesterday...Here is how it went.
Skyler replied to pinky lee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Theresa I will for sure keep intouch and we can go through the days after together. I totally agree with the build up being the most nerve racking. I find that this week to be the worst as the date fastly approaches. Trying to fit in a few old favourite foods in before the big day that I know I will probably never eat again. But looking forward to a new way of living and all the good things to come. Talk with you soon Good luck -

Fluids are extremely important. As for pantry items you can have after the first couple weeks: Fat Free refried beans, canned chicken and tuna, low fat mayo, low fat cream soups (like cream of chicken, etc). But don't go overboard yet because it'll likely be a month or so before you're really able to eat anything more than a few bites. You'll find yourself with a lot of leftovers. Best of luck!

hmm that sounds great I won't be needing that for at least 3 weeks from now but I'll be sure to try it

Well, I have been trying to get this surgery approved through my insurance since February... and have actually been considering it for a couple of years now. The good news is on July 17, 2008 I received an approval letter from my insurance company. The horrible news is it may never happen for me. In June I was informed by my human resources dept. that I didn't work enough hours in the previous 3 month period to qualify for benefits. I took a lot of vacation days and downtime due to my health but didn't have the doctor's visits or notes to back it up. I am 330 lbs now, diabetic with NASH (non-alcoholic steato-hepatitis - a liver issue due to diabetes and weight). I also suffer from horrific migraines. So... I signed up for the COBRA insurance... I got the bill in the mail for my insurance shorthly after I got my approval for surgery... $1800... due by August 25th... !!! That is premiums for 2 months at $500 each and $800 due on my flexible spending account that I had already used for medications and medical bills. Well, that might as well be $1,000,000. =( I am seriously working 30 hours of overtime this week and get paid bi-weekly. I tried to get a loan through my bank, but with my 2 car loans I am maxed out. I am crushed. I don't know what to do. I will be eligible for insurance through work again in October or November. However, I spoke to my insurance and asked them if I were to be cancelled what would happen... they weren't sure if the new policy would consider my request for surgery as something of a pre-existing condition or not. They advised I just pay the $1800. Is there an insurance person that could honestly tell me what to do here? Or a millionaire somewhere that has $1800 in change laying around? I have worked so hard to get this surgery approved. My insurance is Blue Cross/Blue Shield of California. I work for Marriott Hotels. I also have to come up with $1000 for a downpayment for surgery, however, the approval letter I have from the ins company says it is good until January 1, 2009.... so I am certain I can come up with that in time. Any words of wisdom? Carleen

My pre op diet is two Protein shakes a day, and one SMALL meal of 4 ounces of a lean meat and two cups of non-starchy veggies. And of course lots of water!!!! Pre-op Update
Trace Lynne commented on Trace Lynne's gallery image in Before and After Gastric Bypass Photos
One of my co-worker's made a comment today about how much of a difference she has seen in me over the last few weeks. My face is less round, and the notable difference is how far my belly sticks out when I'm sitting down. I hadn't noticed previously, but yeah, I had a shelf that stuck straight out when I sat down. Its still noticeable now, but it isn't nearly as far out. I was a bit shocked the difference 2 months makes. -
Pre-op all protein shake diet 2 weeks
Barbara H. replied to Bypassgirl92's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon only makes us do the liquid diet three days prior to the surgery but it is "strictly" liquid on those days. I had Thanksgiving dinner four days before my surgery. -
I had open gastric bypass on November 13. I am still on liquids and don't advance to soft purée till next week.
