I Love Having Water At Night Again!
soon2bhotmomma replied to JentryB2020's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was revised back in July as well, I am struggling to get the last 10-15 pounds off you would think after 2.5 years with the lap band I would know how to eat. I had more success loosing weight with the band than I do now. Of course I could not eat anything with the band. What do you find is the difference in the weightloss? -
I Love Having Water At Night Again!
Vst717 replied to JentryB2020's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my band removed after 6 years and revised to a sleeve on July 10th. I can finally eat regular food only very small amounts. With the band I ate a lot of Ice cream and crunchy things,The only foods that I could tolerate. I waited a long time because I didn't think I would be covered for a revision. I am so happy that I finally had the surgery. 5 of my friends had the lap band about the same time as me. 3 had it removed and one was converted to gastric bypass. -

N.E.W. Center in OC anybody?
TaiDyed replied to Lots Of Hope's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yup...this was me. Had the band via the NEW program (Dr. Q) back in 2008. Have had all my followups over the years with Dr. B - who I adore...and am in the painful waiting period of *fingers crossed* to see if my insurance will cover the band to sleeve revision. At this point, if all goes as planned, I will start the 2 week pre op diet on 7/23 with my surgery date set for 8/6. I hate to wish the summer away but I really want August to be here. -
Im having revision December 1st due to small intestine damaged during original surgery (2013) , its a must, but gaining a fee pounds isnt reason for revision kust start back from beginning with liquids if needed.

7lbs gained. How much of that might just be water due to weather or sodium intake or time of the month. Too soon to give up. Lots of other people here have hit stalls and been so upset. Plenty to read here that will help you through this. Revision is no guarantee of dumping syndrome, some people don't get that. As said before you can't compare your loss to another person's we are all different. My friend and I had it done the same day and both our losses are different but we eat together a lot and the rest of the time eat pretty much the same. Hang in there you can get back on track and keep losing.

6 years post-op, thinking about Overstitch revision
LapGyrl replied to LapGyrl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@@Wolfgirl78 I actually have 40lbs I would like to lose. I was maintaining in the 180s (low 190s on a bad day) for a few years and now I'm averaging 200. I'm seeing a slow increase instead of loss so I want to take action before I gain even more weight. Although I'm considered a success because I lost 80lbs, I never reached my goal so that's what I'm hoping to achieve. I had not heard of this procedure either. I had to youtube and google it but found some good information. The surgeon goes down the esophagus to the stomach to make it more narrow with stitches. I like that there are no incisions and is considered a safer procedure than laproscopy. Some patients can be discharge the same day. Look up Apollo Overstitch to see the video of the sleeve revision. There are several different techniques for the different types of weight loss surgeries. -
Well it's been a while and I thought I would update everybody. I had a fill at the end of 2007. Then our insurance changed and I was told we had to bariatric coverage. I was due to see my surgeon in November. So things rocked along for a while. Then I had another slip Now I am being worked up for RNY. My new doc told me that my continuous slipping was a mechanical failure and there was nothing I could have done to prevent or to make my band work correctly after slipping. BIG RELIEF to know that I was not a failure and I shouldn't have any problems getting a revision surgery. So cross your fingers and maybe things will get better. I hope everybody else is doing okay. I had my sleeve done four days ago and I'm amazed at how very little pain was involved. My biggest complaint was headache. I never considered anything but the sleeve and you will notice there are a lot of bands that revise to sleeve. I don't think you'll be sorry. Good luck!

Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread
Healthy_life replied to Creekimp13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
People gain for many reasons. The answer is not as simple as go back to basics. It's not as simple as add carbs. Some gain due to complications, need a revision, hormonal changes, medical issues, medication side effects, diet etc. None of this is a one diet fits all. none of us here are medical professionals, -
Full feeling? Band Vs. Sleeve
Rachel_TM replied to pickel1972's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I too just got approved for conversion from band to sleeve after a 1 1/2 of vomiting and swallowing problems. Like Pickel, for the first 3 years, I did really well and thought the band was the answer to my problems. But when the band stops working, it creates a lot of problems, as we all know way too well. Has anyone who has already had the revision done found that you slime or vomit with the sleeve? I really hope not because I've had enough for a lifetime! But when you guys say you're uncomfortable after eating too much, what does that mean? -
I am being revised to sleeve Tuesday! I am scared that it will fail just like the band, but I see a lot of ex banders felt that way and are doing fine. This IS the right decision for me and I have to trust that it will work and that i will be able to use it as a tool. Thanks for the info on no feeling your sleeve in the beginning. I probably would have freaked out...

Very Frustrated after seeing Dr Today Need Help on Vertical Sleeve
nailsbyniki replied to Nellie3803's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also sleeved December 13, 2012 and reached my goal weight before I was revised to the RNY on August 16th for GERD/reflux reasons. My surgery weight was 218.2 and my goal weight was 145 but I was 140 when I had my RNY surgery in August. Since then I am 133. The sleeve was great for me weight-wise, but I did have several complications so as long as you go into it knowing that there are risks no matter which route you choose, and research, research, research, and trust your surgeon completely, you will do great. Any time I can answer any other questions for you, let me know. I wish you well! Niki -

Can You Get Approved For Lap Band Surgery If You Have No Health Problems?
Shellyac replied to myownjourney's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The decision of what procedure to get is up to you and your doctor. The most important thing is that you get the procedure you are more comfortable with, for most people with the band the fact that you're not cutting your stomach and not rearranging your digestive system was a major reason for choosing the band, at least it was for me. You should also consider what life will be like after surgery. For sleeve and bypass patients, you don't have to follow up with your doctor as often as band patients. Also the process of getting to optimal restriction is often not easy and can take several months and for some people who had to revise from the band never found that green zone. You should also consider how your eating habits will have to change for each procedure, each procedure has it's own set of issues. Also keep in mind that if you want to have the sleeve you will need to make sure that your insurance company will cover it for your BMI, some companies only cover it for patients with a BMI of 50 or higher but this will probably change relatively soon. Finally there is a new procedure called plication where your stomach is folded in on itself and sutured in a sleeve instead of being removed. Initial results show similar weight loss to the sleeve but with fewer complications and this procedure should also be reversible. Since it is new it's not covered by insurance companies yet as a stand alone procedure but they will cover it if you are also having the band at the same time. The benefit of having the combo procedure is that plication seems to eliminate some of the common band complications like erosion and slippage and it should also help you to not be able to cheat the band because your stomach size is reduced. There aren't that may doctors preforming the procedure yet but it's starting to become more common. The main drawback is that there isn't that much long term data on the procedure. -
I Have A Band And I Think I Want The Sleeve...any Help Please....
shangefan replied to beachbound99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a forum on revisions from band to sleeve and you might want to check that out. i got the band in February 2009 and revised to the sleeve on July 9. I lost about 60 pounds the first year of the band, then regained most of it. In the four weeks since my revision, I have lost about 30 pounds. I feel great, have more energy and am certain I will continue to lose weight. I am thrilled I made this decision. Hated the band; love the sleeve. -
@@honeysmash I'm glad you'll get to have a revision. I get my band removed and revised to gastric bypass all in one surgery in January 2016 (soonest insurance will approve it). Keep me posted if you don't mind. Take care!

Pre op Diet Struggles
Sojourner replied to EmorieJai's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pre and post op liquid diet and the variations prescribed by different surgeons are the most challenging of times. You are engaged in an immense amount of change, both with the how and why you eat, and confronting the "new normal " of understanding that the habit of just going to have something to eat whenever you want to has to change if you want to be successful with weight loss. I structured my shakes and the one cup of fresh salad veggies so that there were at equal intervals during the day and evening. I had a bottle of Water with me at all times, and sipped from it frequently. And I kept very occupied with errands and those projects around the house that I never seemed to have the time or motivation. We never had such clean and organized closets and drawers in our house. But it worked to keep me on the straight path of not cheating on my diet. Weight loss success requires "getting your head in the game", and understanding that there is much psychology involved with retooling out eating patterns. Many times what we interpret to be authentic hunger is really "head hunger". We need to be aware of the difference between the two. We also need to be aware when our thoughts create a "need" to eat if/when we are bored. We need to revise our thoughts to be "mindful" when we are eating. That encompasses small bites, timed meals, chewing, chewing, pausing between bites. That also includes being aware of everything you put in your mouth. Best wishes for a successful journey... -
New, Dazed and Confused
David in Washington replied to David in Washington's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was actually approved for the sleeve but am switching to bypass. In my own research, and much reading of this forum, I just see too many people experiencing GERD after the sleeve. Sometimes it takes years to show up or it can happen right after surgery, but there are many, many revisions because of this. I just couldn't risk living with the kind of medication resistant GERD people describe for a couple of years then go through a revision. I see much more satisfaction from the bypass side. I realize there are people perfectly happy with their sleeve and I hope that continues for them. This is my best decision for myself. I would just encourage you to search the sleeve forum for GERD and also stroll though the revision forum to see why they changed. The kind of GERD we are talking about makes living difficult. If not for this one issue, I would go with the sleeve, though the bypass is still considered the gold standard. Good luck with your own decision. Your surgeon can help with this. -
New, Dazed and Confused
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to David in Washington's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lap Band to RNY for severe GERD. I haven't dumped yet and don't think I will be a dumper. I gave up Celebrex seven months before revision surgery and have been fine. (RA patient here) I have virtually zero pain. Losing weight helps reduce inflammation and reduce the need for nsaids it seems. And you're right, you don't want wls induced GERD. It sucks. Meds won't even help when you get this type of GERD. All I can speak to is my personal experiences and comparing RNY to lap band, which I know is antiquated now but RNY feels completely natural to me and I'd do it again if I had to all over again and could choose from any wls. Best wishes! -
So discouraged! Revision from Sleeve to Bypass...Yeah right!!

I did not have a revision but with RNY it took until I started eating dense foods around week 6 (chicken, beef, etc) for me to feel the fullness.
