  1. First, let me just say I am sorry for your frustration and that I completely understand. I'm 5 weeks post op and and don't have a fill in sight- I'm self pay so I have to save up for it. But that said, I am running on straight up will power! And it has been a struggle, but I'm doing it. And you can too! What worries me is that you said you are eating what you did and how much you did before. Ask anyone- the band is not a magical cure. It is a helper. We still have the same obese brain we did before! We can't do anything about that. You really just need to learn to change your thinking. Try tracking all of your food. I use myfitnesspal.com. It's wonderful. I eat 1200 calories per day and also track my exercise there too. I have no restriction right now so I really need to watch what goes in my body. We all do! And this way, I'm training my mind to eat the right foods so that when I do have proper restriction I will stay on track even more. I lost 10 pounds pre-op and 12 so far post-op. This past week was a struggle and I stopped losing but I refuse to give up or gain. Remember, it's completely up to you! You/I/We are our own worst enemy... Work on the mental side of it until you can have the physical part on your side. That way you can be even more successful. If you don't tackle the mental part then you will always find a way to "cheat" the band- so I've heard.... Good luck, and keep us all updated!

    Two Weeks/Four Weeks

Last week I went to my "2 Week Follow Up Appointment" , which for some reason, they scheduled four weeks after my surgery. The first thing you do is weigh you, and the nurse was shocked to see I'd lost 50 pounds. Then I told her it had really been four weeks. She was still happy about the weight loss, but less scared. Once I was back in the room another nurse came in and checked my surgical scars. "These look great for only two weeks!" she said. Actually, it's been four weeks, I explained to her. At one point she asked me why they scheduled my "2 Week Follow Up Appointment" at four weeks and I didn't have an answer. I have no idea! As I was leaving, they scheduled my first band fill. The nurse at the window said they would schedule it in four weeks, which would be six weeks after surgery. I told her that I was four weeks out. She then asked me why I had my "2 Week Follow Up Appointment" at four weeks. Again, I didn't know what to say. After confirming my surgery date in the computer, she changed my band fill for two weeks away -- January 16th, I believe was the date.

  4. Oh yeah its the devil. I've decided to stop eating it!! I think it is the source of my stall. Waaaay too many carbs for me. So yesterday was my last day. I'll just give the rest to my son. We'll see how this works. Today I see my dr for the first time since surgery. I was suppose to go last week, but last week was an utter meltdown. babystter almost passed out and had to go to the hospital. I totally freaked. I had to leave work early and stay home with my son until she recovered so there went my workout plans. Blah! Im still angry about not losing. I feel like I have gained weight. I have stayed away from the scale, but I can feel my a** spread everyday. We shall see. I know I got a weigh in at the dr.'s. I'm terrified. I worked out today. OWWW!! i feel a sharp pain in my side now. I just know I kinda over did it, but jesus a light workout feels like a waste of my time. I dont think 30 min of cardio would be that bad. Oh well I feel better now. Probably just rusty. The barbells are calling my name. I so wanna lift. I'm gonna ask my dr about that today. I know 3-4 weeks, but cardio for the next couple of weeks aint gonna cut it unless I do 60 min a day 4x a week. I have to feel the burn! Obsessive? maybe? I never said I was too sane. LOL!!! I feel a bit weak. Maybe I should eat before lunch, but i'm not hungry. Bandster heck is terrible!!

    Tough first month

I was banded December 9th, I havent suffered from hunger at all but I also havent lost much more than you. I've lost 19lb which I'm thrilled to bits with and as a lower BMI patient, that much is quite visible on me. I'v gone down at least a clothes size. You've done brilliantly to lose 15 if you're hungry all the time. Hang in there, but boy youv'e got a long wait for that fill. I'm scheduled for next week. You can do it, just keep doing what you're doing.
  6. Mine has been running low also. I'm 2 1/2 post. I've stopped taking my blood pressure meds for now. I'm keeping records of it until I go to my regular doctor in a few weeks. I go to my surgeon this coming week. I go back to work then too so it may change.

When Will I See The Scale Move?

Just keep working it. I was about two weeks out when I had a big drop.

    how do i move on?

This forum has been a life saver to me. I was sleeved on 7/18/11, exactly 6 weeks today. At first, I thought I would never feel normal again. I had a day or two of what have I done, but for the most part have no regrets. That being said, I feel like I turned a corner between week 4 and 5. At first, I didn't think I would ever feel normal again until that time. I started to get most of my water and protein in, my routine became more normal. I feel like myself again. The only difference is that I feel like I am a picky eater, not a restricted eater. There are very few foods that I cannot not eat, but a lot of foods that I choose not to eat. Its not that I felt bad before, its just that I feel sooooo much better now. I think you are too soon in to see all the good things that are happening to you and will continue to happen. Although some of us had a shorter process than others making it to the actual surgery, all of us had many attempts at loosing the weight before we considered it. I bet you are the same way too. I think you will feel differently in the near future. Remember, this is a process. We will have our ups and downs. Own it and move on. One word of advice, that I have found helpful.... be prepared when you leave the house. Take snacks and always have something you can eat with you. You will not be worried about what you are going to eat and what people will think of you. It has worked for me, sounds silly, but it is great advice. Good luck
  9. Aussie how exciting that you both will be taking this journey together! I am now 8 weeks post op and I have to be honest and tell you the first week was my worst. It is normal because you are having major surgery but there are some people who have no problems. My hunger immediately went away and so did my high blood pressure. I couldn't keep anything down the first day. My taste ifs changed drastically after surgery too. I had to make sure my back was up while sleeping and truly the advice on this site is what helped!!! Make sure to walk walk walk and walk Take some dry mouth spray Take an extension cord Sip sip and sip your liquids If you do those things you will be fine and the best of success to you and your hubbie!

Can anyone tell me about drinking Diet Soda Pop with the Lap-Band. I'm having my surgery Dec.17th. I've totally cut Pop from my diet over a month a go. Not having a hugh problem with this since I only drank one can or bottle a day. I was told you should not drink carbinated drinks with the band. Then I went to a support group meeting and have three members tell me they do and you can that this is not an off limits item. I have an appointment with my Doctor Nov.15th which I plan on asking him about this matter. I just think not drinking it is better for my health no matter what is allowed. Just have to know, just in case I want some to drink some in the future in small amounts. Thank s all
  11. Curious. I am currently a college student and last week I started a class in a room where the chairs are part of the desks, they sort of swing out. Well, I can barely fit in them and its mildly uncomfortable, but then thats always been the case for chairs for me, but the desk part puts pressure around the area where my lapband is. A few days later I began experiencing a bunch of acid reflux. I have not had problems passing food through though, just periodic bouts of the acid reflux. I actually hadn't made the possible connection until just now when my cat decided to lay on my stomach and it almost immediately caused the acid reflux sensation. So basically, can prolonged pressure (The class is 2 and a half hours long) create problems with the band?
  12. I was banded three days ago. So far, I've not had any problems with recovery that I know of. However, I am having trouble distinguishing when I may be hungry or not. I am so worried that my sips are too big or that I'm sipping too quickly. So I don't eat very often for fear of consuming too much. While I'm eating or drinking, there doesn't seem to be any problem, HOWEVER, long afterward (like one to two hours after some Soup let's say) I get chest pains that affect my deep breathing. Is this normal? Is it gas? I called the nurse yesterday and she said it could be from the swelling and pushing my diaphragm or lungs. Has anyone else had this? Whatever it is scares me. Thanks,

How are you doing so far ????

Hey Boobie! I hope you are recovering well from your surgery!!! Things are going well, I work out a lot, I have lots of energy, I walk everywhere, saves money and I burn some fat while I am at it lol. I eat everythinh I want (mostly healthy fodo of course) except for fried food and sugary things like Cookies and ice cream, I do not count calories but I will say I eat about 1300 to 1500 calories a day. Some days 1200. I think I follow the atkins diet without trying lol. I work out about 5 to 6 times a week, 70 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of strenght training :frown: I am now 179 pounds, ive lost 112 pounds, I am amazed but the hard work has paid off. I would like to lose 20 more pounds and Ill be excited then off to get a tummy tuck :welldone2: sometime in early 2010. good luck on your journey, you are doing great
  14. I had the individual serving of Nectar. I put three of them into my blender bottle. No trouble with TSA.

when do you feel normal again

I felt better almost every day....week 5 I started feeling human. Week 6 I started feeling like my old self.
  16. Hi,I had my surgery Nov 1st (not even a week) and it is definitely the toughest week of my life. All the advice mentioned above is right.....sleeping in a recliner was the only way I can get comfortable shut eye. The few first days, I had a hard time bending. I have no appetite and am struggling to stay hydrated. Once I came off the pain killers, I was able to finally have bowel movements (they constipate you, so use only as really needed). If you have small kids, you will need help, otherwise, good luck! BTW- day 6 down 20 lbs..it keeps you focused!
  17. I finally decided to stop lurking and actually register so I could share my story. I have been visiting this forum since last summer when I started my journey. Had my first doctors appointment in August. Did all the tests required. No preop diet. I had decided I wanted the sleeve but my insurance wouldn't cover it. I didn't feel great about the band or bypass, but reluctantly decided on the band. I was approved in November and was scheduled for surgery in January, when fate stepped in. My insurance started covering the sleeve in November. I quickly called my doctors office and was approved for the sleeve within two weeks. My surgery date was January 20. Today is my 6 month anniversary and I have lost 80 pounds. I have gone from a size 22 to a size 14 pant. Still wear an extra large top, but I have always been top heavy. I have kept my WLS on the down and low. I am from a very small town and have a job that keeps me in the public eye. I am not used to being noticed, but will have to get used to it. I had my first double take the other day. It's funny that as big as I was, I always felt invisible. No more.

    PreOp Diet Hunger Help

You'll be fine because I wasn't faithful to my 2 week pre-op (I cheated once and felt very guilty about it) I had my surgery Oct 27th just stick to whatever pre-op diet and workout you'll be fine BUT if the fatty liver haven't reduce then YES they can reschedule and you will have to be on the liquid diet longer

    PreOp Diet Hunger Help

I'm on day 6 of my 2 week liquid diet and I am good at work and if I am busy. I keep to my schedule of having a Protein drink every 3 hours and a variety of broths, beef, chicken, and veggie and a SF Gelatin cup. I found if I don't stick to schedule I get very hangry...yes hangry . My only difficult time is making dinner for my family and sitting down with them as they eat their dinner and I have my Protein shake, broth, & gelatin. I found having a variety of calorie free teas & flavored waters help between "meals". I would say make sure you keep on schedule with eating so you don't get hungry. Hope this helps!

    PreOp Diet Hunger Help

Hi I am scheduled to have my gastric bypass on Monday December 5th. I have to say this has been very difficult for me. I have made some very bad choices in week one, but in week two I have been perfect thus far. I have been drinking my protein shakes and my water. Is there a possibility they would cancel my surgery because I cheated? Plus how would they really know? Please someone answer me.

    Post Op Diets?

2 days clear liquid, 2 weeks full liquid, 1 week blenderized and pureed, 10 days graduating from blenderized, ground meats, finely cut, apple sauce, crackers, hard breads, well cooked veggies. then maintenance.
  22. I don't do any lifting on my job and my doctor still kept me out of work for five weeks for a full recovery, though I had zero complications of any kind. It's local norms somewhat, but I do think when possible, people should really take as much time as they need to be REALLY ready to get back to work. Good luck!!

I haven't written anything in almost a year. I have just given up until a month ago. My knees are so bad that I can't hardly stand it. The doctors tell me that knee replaces probably won't get rid of the pain. They said its my weight. Not sure I believe that completely, but I have to do something. I have had a great 2 weeks, but and you all know there is always a but. I had family in 2 different days this week. Now I have all this left over food. I really want to eat it. I also know I can't eat it and it is such a struggle. I promissed myself that I would not weigh as much next year on my 60th birthday. So I have to not eat this food, but it is calling my name. I hate the struggle. I'm 59 years old and you would think that by now I would have this thing under control. Feel like a failure. Hope I make it through the night.

    Throwing up

I am 6 weeks post op. I threw up for the first time today. My lunch didn't agree with me. This is probably a dumb question but how soon after throwing up should I try to eat again? Or should I wait until the next meal time?
  25. I went 12 days after surgery before my plumbing started working.... I took milk of Magnesa, colace, drank warm prune juice & finally added a suppository (fleets) and it finally did the trick. I would not wait as long as I did. When I would call my surgeons nurse about the issue all she would say was you need more liquids. None of these remedies will work without the Fluid to help the plumbing work. I had a hard time getting in all my fluids at first. At my 2 week check up I was on the edge of dehydrated.... So with all the ability you have do your best to get in all the liquids you can. And walk that helps as well! Hope you have relief soon!
