    Kellogg's shakes

My surgery is scheduled for 11/10. I'm on week 2 of my 2 week diet. Just bought quite a few Atkins shakes from Wally - World (Walmart). They're on sale now 6 for the price of 4. I believe they have 1g of Carbs.
  2. My cholesterol went from over 330 down to just over 100 at my 6 weeks check up. My next check up with blood work will be in September. I'm 10 weeks out.

I fell off the wagon and broke my neck!!!!

I'm so glad I found this thread today. I have been telling myself that I will not have ice cream or shakes, heeding the warnings of my surgeon's office. I'm not sure why, but today I started craving a chocolate shake. After sitting there thinking of nothing else for 30 minutes, I said "screw it, I'm having one". My consolation is that I made it with fat free ice cream and a little Peanut Butter (gotta get that protein!) I felt guilty for about 10 minutes and then decided that there was no reason to - I didn't go overboard, it satisfied a craving and it was a treat, not an every day necessity. jkend - don't beat yourself up. It is what it is - just ride an extra 20 minutes on your bike!

    Some may find the beneficial...

I was coming on here to post that I never feel "full"...bordering on stuck, but never full in that good way. :bored: I will try this. Tonight, I am going to my first social gathering since being banded on 10/5. I am already hungry. I hate that feeling and this is NOT head hunger. I will wait and make some of the food at cocktail party my "dinner". Thanks for the info.

    Post op gas

My surgery was 12/10, a good friend of mine who is a L&D nurse suggested tiny amounts of warm decaf tea. Also laying flat and trying to roll side to side. The rolling wasn't an option for me with my abdomen being so sore. However, the warm tea really did seem to help. I also had my husband pat my shoulder & more was released.
  7. I am reading way too much and making myself CRAZY! First I had my surgery all scheduled with Dr Ortiz, then I set up surgery with Dr. Rumbaut because it shaved off 3 hours flying time and I believed he was right up there with Ortiz, but I couldn't get the express passport in time. Now I have read and read and read all these damn postings till my eyeballs are popping out and am thinking - maybe I should go cheaper and get the hospital experience somewhere else in Tijuana- maybe Dr. Ortiz is too arrogant and they do treat you like cattle with dollar signs and no follow up at all and that damn lady witht the 10 page posting makes you think Dr. Ortiz' Mother is the wicked witch, so now I am juggling: Dr. Valencia, Dr Rodriguez, Dr. this. Dr. that..!! All I need is your basic experiences - nice facility, nice hotel, fair treatment, some genuine care, authentic concern, good price? PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR EXPERIENCES - I WILL PICK FROM THESE AND THAT WILL BE IT ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!

    Newbe can anyone help

Hi, welcome to LBT! First of all, I must warn you----if you get 10 responses, they are likely to all be different as to what each person can tolerate, or what they choose to eat! This is very individual in how it affects you. Along with that, some of the things you hear you will not be able to eat--will sound very drastic---but in the end your tastes end up changing and it is not any longer something you crave. That is a hard thing to describe, and I remember it was even harder to believe when I was pre op!! Can you eat anything after? Any trouble with lettuce, popcorn, or meat? As you know I am sure, you will be on a fairly strict post op diet for probably at least a couple of weeks. This is to give your stomach a chance to heal, and the band a chance to set into place properly. So I will answer this question, assuming that you meant after you heal and get moved on to a regular diet. Personally I can eat anything. Some I can eat much easier than others! I eat a lot of salad, without issue----I have to be more careful with spinach leaves, they are harder for me to chew well, and chewing is key with any of it. Especially meat---you MUST have small bites chewed well, so it will fit through the small opening after you acheive restriction through fills. I eat popcorn--I do best with it when it is very fresh, and crisp----if it is at all stale, it tends to mash as opposed to chew up. Pasta and bread are the hardest for me, I have to eat them slowly, and with other items, and I can only fit a small amount in, they seem to swell after you eat them. But as I said above---over time my desire for either of these things has seriously dwindled. They are no longer my favorites. Do you have a lot of excess skin after? I had excess skin. Not everywhere so badly. My butt and legs did ok. But even when I had lost most of my weight, I still had excess fat and skin in my belly, that just would not budge! I had a Tummy Tuck 2 months ago. I do have upper arms that I am not in love with--but I can deal with them!! I began the process in a size 22/24, and am now in an 8/10. Even excess skin, to me was better than having the skin full of fat underneath it!! Insurance covered my TT so I went for it! Would you do it all over again? In a heartbeat!!! My biggest wish is that it had been available to me years ago! I would not hesitate to take my own daughter or mother if they were to need WLS. It gave me my life back, and control back in that life. Do you regret it? I regret that I let myself get to the point I was of needing WLS. But I regret nothing about the surgery. Any additional info is greatly appreciated. Thank you The band will not lose the weight for you, but it will make it possible for you to lose it. It is something you will have to make a decision to work with it, and work with your Dr. to find a good level of restriction. But it allows you to live a totally normal life, and with the help of the band, you can learn to eat healthy, and discover normal portion size. There are times it is seriously hard work---but it is well worth it!!! Kat
  9. My surgeon gave me 3 options for my preop diet, which he requires for at least 2 weeks prior to surgery. I ended up choosing the Medifast option. Been doing that since 26 January, and have lost 13 pounds...that's just a side benefit to the real purpose of getting rid of the glycogen deposits in my liver, but it's nice to watch those numbers go down nonetheless! Waiting for insurance preauth in order to schedule my surgery. They have paid for EVERYTHING preop so far, except for 4 $10 office copays, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the rest of the path will be smooth.

    "chugging" soup and drinks

Hi guys! This is a great thread! I was kinda worried that I was drinking too much too fast too... but this sure puts my mind at ease! I'm pretty sure I don't have restriction either because I can drink quite a bit at once (& belch like a lush too!:w00t:) but I'm down 15 since my pre-op diet 10 days prior to the Aug 20th surgery so, I'm totally happy with that. Mushies start on Sunday for me - can hardly wait for egg salad! Thanks for the peace of mind on the sip vs the gulp!!! 11. I'm about 10 weeks out, and I'm still eating lots of greek yogurt, chicken breast, and Protein bars, and a daily Protein shake. I have eaten nuts a few times but they don't seem to sit well with me. I've also tried salads, and that was a terrible mistake. I'm SO tired of the SAME things every day. I do not like any kind of fish/seafood, so chicken it is, I guess. Even though I can eat more, I'm still not getting in the required amount of protein. I'm seriously struggling and need any advice or suggestions you may have!

    Research study

Somebody posted this link in a thread and i couldn't find it again - so thank you! I think it is a great article and should be read by people considering WLS. I am 2.5 years out from a revision band to sleeve and that article made so much sense based on my experience. Band (when filled) - I had a very small food capacity but I couldn't tolerate the reflux. I also honestly couldn't tolerate the very small capacity either and it drove me toward sliders (my responsibility not blaming the band). When I revised to the sleeve I was surprised that eating was so much easier say 3 months out then it ever was with the band. I didn't think about it that I could eat more quantity /capacity then I had with a filled band but it is true. I think for me that is one reason I have been so much more compliant with the sleeve, I can eat salads and veggies and dense Protein without feeling discomfort or pain. I get an "absence of hunger" sensation after pretty small quantities, but still more than I could consume with a filled band. I had the band for 10 years, most of that time with "no fill" due to my issues with it. I think that might explain why some people do really well with the band and struggle with the sleeve after revision because you can eat more. Anyway, there is alot more to the content of this article, but that particular piece fit my experience.

    My Journey

Hey everyone, my name is Frank. I'm 29 years old and I'm a paramedic in the Tampa Bay Area. I'm currently 326lbs and was 356lbs at my heaviest. At 6'3" I carry the weight a little better than some are capable of doing so when I talk about getting the sleeve done a lot of people seem surprised and try to discourage me from doing it. These people never saw me at 220lbs 10 years ago and I was a stud. A femur fracture and some tough events in my life lead to a steady weight gain and I've battled with it for some time now. Back in August 2016 I did my research and made the decision to move forward with my decision to get a VSG. My surgeon is Dr. Richard Gordon out of Largo, FL and I will be having the surgery at Mease Dunedin Hospital just north of Clearwater. My insurance requires 3 months of a physicians supervised diet so I've been doing that. I've also met with the nutritionist, had my abdominal Ultrasound, a sleep Study and this week will have an endoscopy done as well as my psych eval. All that willl be left after this week is one more meeting with my physician as well as a pre-op EKG, Chest X-Ray, and Blood work. Hoping for a mid-January surgery and excited for the lifestyle change that comes with it. I love reading all of your individual journeys and hope to share as much of mine as I feel comfortable with. I feel like this adds a special level of support and accountability that my peers who haven't experienced this can't provide. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight Loss Before Surgery

    Yep mine wanted 10%.
  18. I just had my RNY two days ago, I spent only one night in the hospital because my vitals were great, but I have been in so so much pain. I've really been shocked at the amount of pain I've been in. They gave me Dilaudid (sp?) and it does help some, more than the Oxycodone they started me with. It is, however way easier for me to drink Water than I was expecting which must be a good thing. I don't feel any extra pain when I drink but it still takes forever. I haven't yet gotten in 64oz of water in a day. Today I tried my first Protein shake after getting in about 10 oz of water. I'm using Premier Protein rtd shakes from Sam's Club and they're wonderful. The Protein Shake is also going down very easy but I'm wondering if, like food, I should be trying to get it in within a timeframe. Thankfully walking is getting easier, everything seems to be getting better and best of all I'm not hungry in the slightest even though I've eaten nothing since last Saturday. I really like that. Anyone have any tips, pointers or pearls of wisdom for someone just out of surgery? I'd love to hear the things that helped each of you get through this stage. Joy

    Only lost 10lbs - WTF

Yes, most people gain up to 10 lbs cause of the Iv fluids we get at hospital. Also they air up our stomach so you poofy. Don't worry, very soon the scale will start moving.

    Weight loss

The key is, it doesn't really matter how fast or slow you lose the weight, so long as you eventually lose it. In the grand scheme of your life is it going to matter that it took you 6 months or 12 months to reach your goal when you've been living a happy, healthy life for 10+ years? We are all in this horrible mentality from past diets where we feel like we're in a race to goal so we can be "done". News flash: we'll never be "done" with weight loss surgery!
  21. I am extremely tired and frustrated. At least two nights a week I awake choking on stomach acid! Tonight it really scared me because it seemed to burn the heck out of my vocal chords! It took at least an hour for the burning to stop. I was literally crying. I had surgery in Mexico so my family doctor has been trying to help me.. First I was on Nexium. That didn't solve the problem so now I'm on Dexilant! I am wondering what else may work.. I am 10 weeks out, I eat the right foods, and I don't eat too late. Now, I'm scared to sleep for fear of choking!! Has anyone else had a similar issue or know of a medication that may help?????

    Protein HELP!

My Dr preop diet is 1 day of liquids & fasting after midnight. I am planning on 3 days of semi liquids & trying to beef up my protein before Wednesday. I am trying to take it easy on holiday meals. Saturday is the last one (I hope)! So beginning Sunday I am planning on liquids for 2 meals & 1 low fat meal high protein meal. Does that sound ok?? I really haven't been given any preop diet other than the day before. I was just told I need to loose 3 pounds before the day of surgery. I think I am down 10 right now. Really unsure but thankful for the forum!

    My Journey beggins

Hi my name is Maribel im 5.5"a mother of 3 beautiful kids and 24 years old. I have struggled with obesity since I was little. I managed to be healthy when I was 15 but then got pregnant by my first born then a year later I had my second child. I was very thin when I got and had my children but when my 3rd child arrived in 2007 I weight 160 lbs. After that I just blew up and never was able to loose the weight. I currently weight 271 lbs. The biggest ive been was 160lbs. So I decided to get the Vertical Sleeve and right now im in process of it. I already attended the Orientation and the Consultation with the Doctor. I start my classes on July 23, 10 and im so happy. Even though my husband and kids tell me that im beautiful I still feel uncomfortable. I just can't wait to do this and I hope that everything goes good for me.:thumbup1:
