  1. Ok so this is the deal, I had a PCP appt last Thursday @ Kaiser Woodland Hills, I made him send a referral to Health Education (hes cool like that) . Anyways so I waited this long holiday weekend and made my calls this morning. I called the Health Education Dept, made sure that they received my referral and had them set me up for labs, Im having that done first thing in the morning, and then they (Hlth Edu Dept) Will call the Panorama City (The Valley) Kaiser and have my orientation set up. Which is 6 looooooonnnnnggggg months!!!!They also said that they do cover Gastric Bypass (Hell To The Naw) Lap Banding, and the Gastric Sleeve. So thats where I am in this long journey, even though they are little bitty baby steps :blushing: I believe South Bay Kaiser is the other place where classes are held. The bottom line is, Yes Kaiser does cover the Banding, you just gotta stay on them and it will be at least 6 month I guess give or take a few days... Hope this helps Ill give the play by play as I get it Boopie
  2. Im "LIVID" I just got off the phone with member services and Kaiser So. Cal only covers gastic bypass!!! WTF !!!! . Now here we go with the run around, I guess Ill keep my PCP appt tomorrow and just shoot the breeze and wait until open enrollment next month and switch to UHC. This "ish" is for the birds!!!! I cant get a concrete answer for the life of me!!!! At least one that Im satisfied with!!!!! Its like Kaiser So. Cal. is stuck in the stone ages or something or they are afraid that these superficial folks who only will use it for cosmetic reasons, is gonna abuse it. And in the meanwhile folks like me who need it for serios health reasons, well I guess we are "assed out"!!!! UUGGHH!!! Okay Im calm.... MUSAHHHHHH!!!! :~)

    Hiatal Hernia Concerns

Thanks everyone. I had an Upper GI and the Endoscope (sorry if I spelled this wrong) which showed the Hiatal Hernia. My doctor said it could be repaired if it isn't too large, and that he wouldn't know that for sure until he got in there. The nurse said it shouldn't be a problem. I just don't want to go into surgery and come out without the band, but I also don't want to have problems with the band if the hernia is too big and will impede the band from working or by giving me more reflux or heartburn (I've had enough of this to last a lifetime). I will probably give him permission to do whatever is necessary to get me on the road to losing weight - band or bypass. I'll also be praying that God guides the doctor and the outcome.:w00t:

    Odds of long-term success

Hey Luluc, I kinda feel the same way as you.I'm 9 months out so maybe I'm jumping the gun but a good friend of mine did gastric bypass the same time as me.And when I compare our experiences & weightloss results she has had it so much easier than me.I too feel like I am working so hard to get half the result that she isn't even having to work for!! I really wish I would have looked into the sleeve more because it was an option for me I just got a little scared of them removing a good part of your stomach. But this back & forth fill game can be a nightmare!! Oh well I guess you just make the best of it!!
  5. Hit send by accident. The mushroom one was an Atkins recipe. I saw another in a gluten free cookbook that used ground beef for the crust. One of my friends has been making crust out of cauliflower and said it is a pretty good pizza. I think she found that recipe online. I am not sure I can live with no pizza forever, so hopefully the bypass will help me make those changes but maybe I can settle for cauliflower crust pizza.

    Depression and Hormones

I am starting the process of getting the gastric bypass surgery. I take meds for panic attacks. I take 100 mg of Zoloft daily. Reading your posts about how angry I could get etc really makes me wonder if I want to go thru with it

    Tummy tuck 9/9/09!

Mimi, your incision is looking good, Sorry for the seroma, but it will get better, trust me, I had a wound seperation that took 4 months to heal and then I needed a revision to fix it, you will get thru this and look Marvolous!!!!! The pain pill are your friend, use them when needed, you dont need to have the pain. Josi, I too had a couple of those inner stictches not disolve and have to be picked at to get them out. I agree about the panties, I'm one of those that can't stand the thong up my butt, hehehe But I have been a very frequent shopper of Vistorias secret and I am proud to say I own WAYYYY to many pairs of size Medium panties in all colors and pretty fabrics. WOHOOOOO no granny panties for me anymore. :-) I'm going to have to go look online for this hanky panky panty line....
  8. Hi All, I was sleeved just over 6 months ago and I am struggling with the "Perfect" goal weight. Here is the deal...I have a history of failing every diet I have ever tried. (I know this is a lifestyle change not a diet..yada yada) I have a little success then I quit, that has been my life. I chose this surgery so I couldn't fail. Now I am feeling like a failure again. I have lost 80 pounds and feel amazing. I feel thin and beautiful and love wearing new clothes. I am about 20 pounds from my goal of 150 pounds but feel really good where I am at. My doctors still tell me I am overweight, my Nut wants me to increase my calories to lose more weight. I jog the soccer fields 4x a week and I think my weight is set at about 170-173 depending on the time of day. My husband says I could maybe lose 10 more pounds but definately not 20. I don't know if he is being nice or telling the truth (I know we are having happier "married couple time"). Here is the point of my rambling. Given my history of giving up, am I in denial like I was before surgery about my weight? Should I try harder to lose more weight? I went from a 22 to an 8. I am 5'6 1/2. I just feel like I am never going to hit everyone's perfect number for me. How can I lose this much weight and still feel like a failure...like I am doing something wrong ALL THE TIME. I feel like I have been chasing this magic number for years and I am finally in a place I am happy with, but no one in the medical field thinks I am healthy yet (*cursing stupid BMI chart*). My question to you all is have you struggled with the perfect goal number? Have any of you adjusted your number up? Should I trust the doctors/NUT and increase my fitness to 6X a week to lose more weight? I am attaching my before pic (never been shared before) and a pic taken with my amazing hubby this weekend for a visual reference. ***Note to pre-sleevers*** My sister is a photgrapher and insisted she do a shoot the weekend before my surgery. I was crying I was so embarressed. Now I am really grateful to have these photos. Have a friend or family member do them...you will be glad you did later. Disclaimer: I cant find the spell check, so please ignore any errors.

    Soooooo many requirements!

Thanks for all the comments ladies, I really appreciate them. I just found out that my sister in law is having bypass surgery in 25 days! We were both talking about it about a month ago, thinking that we might go this route, and now she has a surgery date for a bypass without having to do the six month thingy! (Tricare) I'm very happy for her, of course, but it is so soon! ....I'm so jealous!

    gastric balloon with RNY

I am an RNY patient... 5 yrs out gained 20-25 lbs from total lost (SW 250 - LW 165 - CW 199) - would like to get back to 170-175 - easier on my joints/muscles/body overall. Would the balloon work as a kickstart/temp revision for getting back on track? I'm doing better with food - smaller portions, more protein/protein first, no liquids with meal, better Water intake, fresh fruits/veggies - low carbs but just can't seem to get the weight off. Very low exercise but that's b/c it hurts to exercise with the extra weight. I've never gotten over 199 since re-entering "one-derland" but I don't want to get there either. Anyone have any suggestions, testimonies, advice?
  11. I haven't. I am only 8 weeks out. A good friend of mine had gastric bypass several years ago; she has gained/lost/gained/lost. She is still continually 'dieting' just like before surgery. I hope I don't end up that way, but if a person doesn't change their lifestyle/food relationship...I can see it happening easily.

    Frustrated and depressed

My niece's sister-in-law had bypass surgery. She was 500+ lbs and the doctor required that she lose 75lbs before he would operate. But he did make it easier for her to do so, by putting her on a supervised liquid diet. She dropped the weight in record time too.
  13. Hey there!!! I am 30 & have just started the journey as well, but for the Gastric Sleeve. I am so excited/anxious with this decision. My mother had Gastric Bypass & has gone from 350 to 145 in a little over a year. I am currently at 230 & hoping to be back to my old 150 self with the help of this surgery. I would LOVE a journey buddy too. I am a cash pay patient so I'm currently working on saving the funds.
  14. I have finally finished the program for gastric bypass. I started the multi disciplinary program on Jan 22 and finished on June 1st. I would have finished sooner if I didn’t test positive for H pylori in April. I was told I’ll get a call this week with a date (if everything goes well and they don’t need anything else for me) Anyone want to share how long it took to get a surgery date after completion of their program? And how far out the surgery was/is? My surgeon is Dr Hess at Boston Medical Center.
  15. Hi Baseballmom...Thank you for your kind words and concern. I went to the dietician today and we did a test whereas i step on a scale and it tells all sorts of info about my body (fat percentage; how many calories i should be eating; bmi; etc). Well, she discovered that I am doing everything right...the problem is my metabolic makeup. From what she explained to me, out of every 100 patients, there is always that "1" who has that weird metabolism...well, unfortunately, I am that "1" person. Ugh...frustrating and not much anyone can do for me. She thinks even a revision may be a waste of time! Oh well...at least I kno it wasnt me doin something wrong!
  16. I'm booked in for bypass on 22/2/17. Can't wait Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  17. I don't even think about trying to eat slowly. I had been banded for 7 years when I got my revision. I need to work on that.
  18. I have almost identical story, first lapband then bypass. I am 4 weeks post surgery and I have no idea what to eat. I don't want what they want me to eat, I just don't feel like eating. I like to eat apples, greek yogurt is also OK, but I don't care for cottage cheese. Can you tell me what you ate? You are doing so well.

    Malabsorption of Anti Depressants

Hi, yes I take a prescription for mental health. The doctor said it shouldn't matter that I had a gastric bypass, but I noticed a change in my mood after the surgery. Thankfully I wasn't on the max dose so I talked to my psychiatric nurse and she upped the dosage and things got better. From what I've heard, the only medications that matter are extended release ones. Otherwise, it should be absorbed normally. But that wasn't the case for me. Sent from my SM-G981U1 using Tapatalk

    I Got my Surgery Date!!!

Yay!!! Super excited, and very nervous of course. It's gonna happen though.. Sept. 14th with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. Revision here we come! I really can't wait, I've been wanting to start over again for a very long time. So, out with the old and in with the new. Instead of a Bandiversary, I'll now have a Sleeversary. I hope I will celebrate this day now instead of cursing it. :scared0: YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. I am one month out and suddenly have kidney stones! I have never had them before. I can't help but wonder if this is related to the surgery. Anyone else develop kidney stones after their surgery?

    Downers

A co-worker of mine, who prior to my surgery was all about helping me along. She was a successful bander who wanted to take me under her wing. Post-op she changed. Negitive nelly, if you will. She is 3 years post of and has lost 70 lbs. I have no idea what she weighs, she looks nice, not tiny but healthy. She ask me today how much I'd lost. I told her 50+ lbs in 9 months. Rather than saying good job she snickered. She ask how much more I wanted to lose, I said around 50. She plain out said I would never be able to do it with the band and I should have had gastric bypass. If I needed to loose 100 lbs then my doctor never should have done the band. She keeps telling me that I had more to loose than she did. I have never told her my numbers so how the hell does she know. I am sorry, but that is just a b#$%3 thing to say. While my weight loss has slowed, why is it impossible to lose all of my excess body weight? I don't know if I will get that small, but I would at least like to make to the 150's. If you are going to be negitive and discouraging keep it to yourself!

    bypass or sleeve?

I had the sleeve 07/08/2011. I have lost 100% of my excess body fat. I have a cousin who had the sleeve and he deals with bowel obstructions from having his intestines re-routed. I don't have to. He also has the issues with malnoutrition and foods he can't eat. I can eat anything I want and I have no malnoutrition issues. I lost 100% of my excess bodyfat and he has lost about 75%. My sleeve cannot stretch back to the size of my old stomach. His pouch can, which can allow him to re-gain all of his weight back if he doesn't be careful. Yes, I can eat around my sleeve, but I am going to have to make a conscience effort to sabotage myself. If you are committed to make a change, either surgery will get your weight down, for sure. I just didn't want the complications bypass brings to the table. Yes, there are risks with the sleeve as there are with all surgeries. But for me, the sleeve was the right choice.

    Venting about bad news

So, apparently he does not like to do revisions on anyone. I would take that as a not so subtle hint that perhaps he shouldn't be doing revisions anyway. My suggestion would be to check out that other doctor further away. You are worth the extra effort.
  25. I had gastric bypass on November 6. Since then my hormones have been crazy, I've had a rough recovery due to a rough surgery and I've felt like a crazy person. I get nauseous easily, everything I'm allowed to eat tastes terrible or I just end up psyching myself out that it will taste terrible, then I don't want it. When I do find something that works, I get excited, then discouraged because it may only work for one or two meals. I'm getting better day by day and continue to work on it. Last night, my boyfriend (for lack of a better word) made one of those Totino's Party Pizzas (Combination style of course which was my favorite) and I'm sitting at the table, trying to decide what my new pouch will tolerate and I lose it. I start bawling like a baby. So I lock myself I the bathroom (don't want him to see me crying and feel bad about eating) and I call my mom. As I'm feeling sorry for myself and asking her for a time machine, I hear him start to curse. I ask him what's wrong and he says he burnt his finger and dropped the pizza. I start laughing. This crazy maniacal laugh and I have no idea why I'm finding this so funny, but I seriously can't stop! I keep picturing it I'm my head and cracking up! I think I was happy (not about the burning, but about the loss of pizza) lol. Turned out he only dropped one piece. He felt bad when he figured out I had been upset. I told him I needed to get used to it and that it's hard. I don't want anyone handling me with kid gloves. I swear it is aggravating knowing the hold that food had/has over me. I can still picture the taste in my mind. I did much better today but it comes and goes in waves. Just had to share my momentary, pity party meltdown because now, of course it's funny. ????
