Hello All, I'm a newbe. I was banded 7/21/04, my band has no fill and am doing great. The first two weeks were difficult. Were any of you dizzy and weak? Now all is well and I have energy. It's amazing, I've even began to exercise (walk) but it is a start. I'm not terriable hungry, although it is a new sensation to feel hunger pains. I think about food all the time. I guess it's due to the liquid and mush diet. I'm measuring my food closely and do not intake more than 4oz. during my meals and do not snack in between meals. However, I'm concerned because I don't feel full..I make myself stop, but I fell like I could eat more. Is this normal to fill minimum restriction without a fill? I'm drinking lots of water 2 hours after meals and that helps. My doctor has scheduled the first fill for 8/13/04. Do you feel more satisfied after a fill.

Consultation In Order To Get Approved For Loan? Seems Shady.
Chezaraeh replied to BigGirlVee's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
If your friend needs to get financing, have her check out the patient facilitator service called Belite Weight. The have in house financing with $2500 to $3500 down and then $200 a month after that. Their main doctor in Mexico is extremely reputable, Dr. Jose Rodriguez and he performs surgeries in Juarez and Tijuana. The owner of Belite Weight is also a previous patient and the majority of the facilitators are patients. They are extremely helpful and will take care of everything! I am using them and a lot of people I have met through forums have used them and I will be leave in a week and a half for my sleeve with Dr. Rod in Mexico. -
My surgeon's office called me the day I was approved for surgery (a week ago yesterday). The "official" letter from the insurance company showed up four days later (last Friday).

My husband is questioning my decision
_Kate_ replied to Dawn E Dorsey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You will be able to go out and eat, just smaller portions or starters and might have to stay away from certain foods such as fried and heavy carbs. I have 2 lunches a week out with work colleagues and my family and I go out a couple of times a week at night. Initially it might be difficult finding something you will tolerate and I used to have Soups a lot. Get in the habit of taking a container so you can bring the rest you can't eat for later in the day, especially if its Protein. The benefit of health FAR outweighs the fact you can't eat what you used to. Good luck ! Kate -
Hi all, This is my one month update. Since surgery I have lost 32 pounds, 72 pounds down altogether!! I am so amazed and motivated by my weight loss. I've had some minor stalling since I started eating food, but it seems like that's pretty normal. Still struggling to get in all of the things I need, but I'm hoping that will continue to improve the further out I get. I want to thank everyone here for making this such an easy transition for me. I LOVE that there is always someone available to answer questions and provide support. It has made such a huge difference in my life. Erin

I had mine on March 10th. I was so scared I also thought about backing out. I wore my favorite shirt which was tight and uncomfortable(wasnt when I bought it)just to remind me why Im doing this. I can tell you, I need a root canal and am so much more scared about that than the surgery. The surgery was the easy part. After 2-3 days I felt great. I was back to work(plumbing, heavy lifting)in 2 weeks with no problems, no way could I have taken 4-6 weeks like someone suggested, I was already going crazy! The hardest part for me was trying to get enough liquids during the first week(clear liquids), I had no appetite at all. Ive lost 37# after 3 weeks and go to see my family dr today. I dont have a scale, I didnt want to obsess. But I can tell you after 1 month I feel healthier and happier than I than I have in a long time. I would do it again in a heartbeat. After surgery time seemed to go so fast(healing process). Youll be fine, just listen to your dr and enjoy getting healthier by the day. Good luck to you.

Help! Did I hurt myself?
NYgirl01 replied to mindyemt08's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About 2 weeks after my surgery I bent over while blow drying my hair and I got this horribly sharp pain in my port. It felt like I was getting burnt with this pinch. I called the doctor and they said I pulled the muscle around the port and it is very common. Along with that it can take a couple of weeks to heal. -
Hello. I'm new to the community and just had my endoscopy done today in preparation for my revision from Band to RNY. The result shows that I have ulcers I have to go back in a week to get the results of the biopsy but I am curious to know if anyone out there was diagnosed with ulcers during the pre-op screenings and if it affected your ability to be cleared for weight loss surgery?

At week 3 it is probably real hunger. It took me 8-10 weeks before my band started to do what I was expecting it to do. Week 3 I was on mushies. Different Soups, chili. scrambled eggs, quiche, mashed sweet potatoes. and on and on. At this point it is not about loosing weight or controlling hunger. It is all about fully healing before they can get down to real business.

Congrats mrsglomartin!! You're doing amazing I'm so happy to hear how much your life has changed for the better ! Keep up the good work ???? I started at 274 pounds and right now I'm 200 pounds. I've been stalled for a few weeks this always happens and the stalls are getting even longer. I take my protein everyday and I drink lots of water I also go running.. I'm just a slow loser I guess lol What multivitamin do you use ? Right now I'm taking prenatal vitamins and I'm not sure if that is a great idea
-
Thanks Bri, I'm still taking the Fintstones vitamins but I had problems with the chewable ones so my doctor allowed me to switch to the Flintstones gummies. I was stalled for three weeks and I am sure I will experience other stalls as my body continues to adjust and adapt to my new lifestyle, but overall I am pleased with my results so far. I no longer eat anything made with white flour and I have also cut out processed foods. I also accept that if I want to continue to lose weight I may have to add to my workout because I will be only doing enough to maintain my current weight. I need to lose 60 more pounds to be at the ideal weight for my height of 5ft 7in which is 140 lbs. I would talk to my surgeon to ask if the prenatal vitamins are okay. Are you pregnant? they might be okay because you are getting all of the important minerals and nutrients I'm just not sure if they are good after surgery. Have a great day, God Bless.

I've reached my 2-week mark post-op and have lost 20 pounds so far. I'm finding it hard to eat, or rather, it's hard to find the desire to eat. On the other hand, I am OBSESSING over this imaginary tall glass of ice cold Water that I am only able to DREAM of guzzling down! I'm drinking as much as I can manage in a days time, but am dry-mouthed and craving more! I'm also still very sore, but only in the area they took my stomach out. Over the past couple if days, I feel I've regressed. I'm back on pain medication (I try only to use at bedtime) and guarding my sore spot. I realize it's only been two weeks after an abdominal surgery and I've been utilizing all this energy that's slowly flooding back into me with to-dos around the house and for the holidays...I guess I just need to take it a little easier. I must say that it has been exhilarating watching my weight go from my heaviest of 321 down to 300 today! My first goal has almost been met (getting under 300)! Time for pain medication and some much needed sleep!

How long did it take you to decide to have surgery
tiredmama replied to MissyLINY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I first started considering it in Oct 2013. Working on my pre-op tests now and hoping for surgery in June 2014, which is the soonest I can take 2 weeks off from work. -
How long did it take you to decide to have surgery
McButterpants replied to MissyLINY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought about weight loss surgery for years - then 2nd thoughts and an effort to try losing weight again on my own prevailed. 2013 was a turning point - I wasn't doing it on my own, my weight was increasing, my blood pressure was rising and I was mentally going down hill. I knew I needed to do something. I found out in June that the wife of my husband's friend had the lapband and was doing great - that was when I decided to go to the seminar offered by my local hospital. I came home from the seminar and started researching - I gathered information for about 2 week, then had my initial consult with a local doc. That was 08/21/13 - I decided that day, that I was doing down the WLS path. So from the "let's see what there is out there" to "I'm going to do this" it was 3 weeks. And I'll add...I'm one of those people that says, "My only regret is not doing it sooner!" Best of luck to you. -
Once you are at least 3 months out from surgery, go find a pair of jeans you wore prior to surgery and try them on. You'll be shocked! Better yet, when you are having a bad day go put on those pants, because that will remind you how far along you've come in your journey. So today I was trying to decide which type of jeans to buy online because the ones I just started wearing 3 weeks ago are already too big but even worse they are too long (I'm short, only 5ft tall), actually the "too big" part doesn't bother me at all. So I tried on an old pair of jeans that I wore just days prior to surgery to check the length, and OMG I couldn't believe how big they were on me. It took all I could just to hold them up as I checked the length on the jeans with my sneakers on. I swear there must of been at least a good foot between my body and the front of the jeans as I held them out from my stomach. Well I'm already down 4 sizes. As embarrassing as this is to admit, I was a size 28 and I'm a girl (a guy in a size 28 is good, but a girl?) I am now fitting in to a size 20. Super excited about that! I wonder when the rest of my family will notice my weight loss? Only my observant aunt noticed when I was only 2 months out from surgery. No one knows I had weight loss surgery except for my husband.

Anyone out there have terrible hunger pains? I'm actually not even sure that's what they are...It kind of feels like I'm starving. At least two or three times a day I get this terrible epigastric pain/cramping. They do tend to disappear after I eat though. Just strange since I've never had hunger pains like that before

9 Days out and I only have 15 to 20 Oz. Advice?
Melissa1234 replied to Loalexylee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem. You just have to try your best to force the fluids. Try a bunch of different things until you find what tastes good to you. I was hospitalized twice for dehydration, not real fun. I would call your doc and let them know what's going on. I'm 4 weeks out and just now getting in the recommended 64 oz a day. -
How long did it take you to decide to have surgery
Photo925 replied to MissyLINY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never considered WLS for many of the reasons you listed...fear mostly. But my sister was sleeved about two years ago and I watched her transform. I still always thought that it just wasn't the right thing for me, then one day it just clicked that I needed help. I went to an informational meeting and walked out before it even started. Looking back I realize that I was not at the point mentally ready to make this big of a change. So I mulled over it for a few more months, did tons of research and joined the program that my insurance offers about three months ago. I still have three months to go of classes, and I feel like that time is a blessing. About a month after I started the class I was on the forums everyday...reading everything I could find about surgery and after and before and anything else even a little related. -
Mine has also drastically changed - but in the other direction... I used to go only 2-3 times a week, if I was lucky. I also had issues where when I had to go, I had to go. Now I go about every other day, but it's a little harder - literally. I've tried fiber, but you have to take like 5 pills in one serving and I already take all my other meds, makes it really difficult. I mentioned it to my doc and he said I won't go as much because I don't eat as much. My body is absorbing most of it for nutrition, but I need to make sure I am getting enough fiber in my diet. Good luck and let us know if you learn any secrets!

It does get easier. I was "lucky" to almost have slight case of food aversion from week 3-7. So nothing looked appealing and it was easier that way and even the sight or smell made me sick. However, when my appetite came back, I didn't crave the same foods. I'm over 4 months post op and I actually, had some potato chips over the weekend. I felt so sick, and I threw the bag away. So even when I "indulge" my pouch slaps my hand and discourages me from doing that ever again. A lot of people go through emotional struggles after surgery. I'd recommend establishing with a therapist and talking out the changes to your body. You will inevitably have changes in family, friends, and co worker dynamics. It is a lot to juggle.

Any one care to share their success story after a SLOW start?
Kristin Hernandez posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had VSG surgery on February 5. It has been 9 weeks, and I have lost 20 lbs. It seems so slow. I know, I shouldn't compare. I know, I should be patient. I know, I should stay off the scale. BUT... Does anyone else who was a slow loser at first have a success story to share? I can't shake the feeling that I will be the ONE person that doesn't lose significant weight. Just a little reassurance will help set my mind at ease (Yes, most days I meet my Water and Protein goals. No issues with eating or drinking what I am supposed to, and I avoid carbs/sugar/etc. Thanks Kristin -
