    Feeling lost

10/17/2017 was surgery date. In 2003 had original Rouen-y. Kept it off year last incisional hernia due to open procedure. About 2 years ago someone who meant the world to me died out of the. I went into deep depression. Stopped exercising (I did 5 miles a day 6 days a week). I had control of protein and diet. So I gained all weight loss plus an additional 30 pounds. Three months ago started having extreme nausea and vomiting. GI doctor found a large hiatal hernia. Called my old surgeon since in different state and was advised to have hernia repaired by a bariatric surgeon. Found wonderful doctor who said he’d fix the hernia but that my pouch had spread to almost 3 times it should be. So with a great deal of hesitation I had both procedures on same day. I’m was sent home on day 2. Am in pain and exhausted constantly I can’t seem to keep broth down but fine with shakes and water. I was unable to crush my meds because they were so vile I threw them up every time I tried. So I slowly swallow a pill st a time. I guess the gist of this since it’s been 12 years are these symptom and experiences common after bypass. Must note my doctor told me this surgery was one of his most difficult ever because he had to cut out massive amounts of scar tissue and cut up some of the mesh that was placed during incional hernia repair

    Feeling lost

Hello rte837 , yes I'm stage 5 end stage kidney disease . I was forced to have the gastric bypass surgery as a prep for a kidney transplant. The doctors don't admit to the hospital until the red blood cells drop to 6. I'm 7.2 so my doctor is treating me with a very dangerous medication called Procrit which is given by injections. I started my first injection yesterday. I hour later I was vomiting bile. The medical information given to me by the pharmacy says that this medication has a lot of side effects and may kill me. I'm feeling so weak and sick but I'm persevering. I'm happy to have lost 25 pounds. My start weight was 248. I'm at week 3 porable protein. The doctors want me to weigh 165. Thank you for thinking about me. It is a struggle but people like you keep me encouraged. God bless you and have a great day.

    I'm new,will be banded Sept 3rd

Welcome Mario Thailand! You have come to a good place for support and expertise! You will do great and try not to worry, you are taking a big step in the right direction! I was banded on June 26 and I have to say, I Love My Band! It takes more will power and control than I had envisioned but I feel really good that I am in control, with the help of the band. I was wondering how much the surgery was in Thailand. My mother in law was upset that I chose Mexico instead of Bankok because she is from Thailand originally! I think she just wanted an excuse to go home for a couple of weeks! Keep us posted on your progress and Happy Birthday! Tricia
  4. Welcome to lapband paula. Dr. Speigel is my doctor also. We are the same height and almost same weight. I was at 220. I am seven weeks out and am down 30. The best of luck to you. If you have any more questions just pm me.

    Please help me

Hi there! For me it was about 3 weeks once my Dr's office received the letter of approval from UHC. I was approved on 2-23-06 and banded on 3-8-06. All insurance companies are not created equal. Good luck.
  6. Great so far, it was hard at first, the first couple of weeks suck, the diet is really restrictive at first but now I can eat ok. I started at 302 and as of today I am 266. Feel great. When are you thinking of having it done?

  10. Hi LM and welcome! They sell proetin shakes with Fiber, that might help. They also now sell very fine and clear fiber which you can add to the smoothies. Start with adding just once a day adn see...then you might need two doses of fiber or three, but so not overdue it. Remember to drink your water! Congratulations..youa re doing great! And by the way..it's great to see some guys here!:clap2:
  11. Thank you everybody for your support and assistance! The constipation has, in fact, "passed" (hee hee) and I finally feel normal. Getting ready to go to the doctor for my first post-op check up next week!
  12. I've been a lurker around here for a couple of months while researching lapband, finding a surgeon and scheduling a consultation. Today was my first appt with Dr. Bagnato in Albany GA. I went in with my list of questions and concerns and came out 1 hour & 45 minutes later with my decision made to schedule surgery. My surgery is Jan 30th....only 1 week away. I had already started Sugar Busters last week (as instructed by Dr. Bagnato's nurse) in case I decided to have the surgery and was pleasantly surprised at the 5 lbs already lost! But- I never want to go thru the sugar and caffeine withdrawals again.....that was awful. Anyway, just wanted to say "Hey" and introduce myself. I know I'll need support going thru this and hope to eventually be an encouragement to others coming here. Kat
  13. You are losing 1.5 lbs per week. Lap Banders can expect to lose between 1 and 2 lbs per week so you are right on track! If you continue to lose at that rate, then by the end of this year you will have lost 72 more pounds!!!!!! That's a total of 83!!!!!!!!!!! Slow and steady wins the race. This is not a fast journey but if you do it right and don't get impatient can be a successful one. Keep up the great work!!!!!

    A Bad (Unhelpful) Weekend

So my Progresso soup victory (see previous post) was very short lived. My stress overwhelmed me the past few days and well...lets just say I resorted right back to unhealthful eating habits. I'm not even going to try to put a positive spin on it. After 2 weeks clean eating...no flour products...bread, pasta...I have binged to the point of feeling woozy on carbs. Bread in particular...lots of bread. I work in the education field...I've taught high school math and science and now work for the Army where I am in charge of about 55 people doing everything from teaching Soldiers how to teach, to designing curriculum, to building educational technology. Once every three years we get accredited which means a bunch of people descend on our organization and tell us whether we are doing a good job. This is the first year I am responsible for so much (last time I just had the teaching Soldiers how to teach part). I mention this because as I've prepared for this visit, I've been looking at what the Army believes about training and education and one of the key beliefs is that Soldiers should be "self-directed learners". That is an awesome phrase and I understand what it means...the problem is, we don't do a good job teaching the young Soldiers how to be that....its as if we expect them to be born with the ability. That's how I feel about stress management. I logically understand that my stress reactions are not helpful, that I should "shake it off" and "not let it derail me". The problem is I don't have a clue how to do that! I know how to eat. I've found myself thinking this afternoon that I just need to survive the week and then I can get back after it...after all I will still have 2 full weeks before I have to go weigh in again...sigh...I'm tired of just surviving. So here's what I'm going to try...no I'm going to channel YODA and say here is what I'm going to do. Before I eat a meal, I'm going to walk for 5 minutes. I can do that, I can do it at work by walking through the halls to the other end of the building and back, I can do it at home rain (on the treadmill) or shine (outside). It might not solve all my unhealthful eating reactions to stress....but it IS SOMETHING DIFFERENT! I'll let you know how the experiment goes. Beth

    One month post surgery

It is now one month since I had my Lap Band inserted at Emirates Hospital in Dubai. One night in hospital was followed by 2 nights in a hotel in Duabi just so I could access the hospital should I need to do so. (My choice). An uncomfortable two days with my stomach feeling like a corset was tightly strung inhibiting movement. Then day 3 arrived and movement was significantly easier and life seemed much more positive. A return to Abu Dhabi and a further three days off work meant I could reflect on the sudden changes in my life - a lapband and a new apartment. Surrounded by boxes waiting to be unpacked I had to call on friends to assist in getting me the very basics of a bed organised. Now a month later my apartment is ship shape and I am already feeling clothes are loser and a spring is back in my step. Weight loss to date is 10kg or 22lbs. No fill as yet as the surgeon here prefers to wait 6 weeks before doing this. This have been going very smoothly no major issues with food. So far so good.

    One Week Before Surgery

  18. Hi Peechez! I'm having a lot of gas too but I feel a lot better this morning so I am going to take a walk and see if that helps. I lost 37 lbs before surgery so we have that in common...I didn't really intend for that to happen but my surgery date moved 3 times. The lap-band surgery ended up being great timing becauase my weight drop was stalled but I figure this clear liquid diet will get the scale moving again! Good luck and keep me posted on your progress!

    Dr. Ponce in Chattanooga?

Dr. Ponce is great! Now you should know that he is very serious during his initial consult. He just wants to make sure you understand everything and are a good candidate for the surgery. On my day of surgery he came to my pre-op room to see me and meet my family. He has a very nice manner. I saw him again post op and he was very supportive. I had my surgery in Dalton since I was lucky enough to twist my insurance's arm. The nurses are great at Weight Management! I had my first fill this week and again I saw Dr. Ponce. He was so pleased with my progress. Since my pre-op consult, pre-op liquid diet & surgery August 4th I've lost 35 lbs. I am now off my insulin which was 66 units a night and actos (another diabetic medication). I am still taking Riomet (the liquid version of Metformin). I wish you luck and if you have any other questions please feel free to email me.

    Coumadin and Lovenox

Hi, I was diagnosed with PE in 8/07 after a few years of birth control pills. Luckily I ALSO had kidney stones which is what drove me to the ER and after the stone had passed and I should have been feeling better, I wasn't and they decided to do a ct scan AND found the clots in both my lungs and discovered a DVT in my right leg. So I am lucky to be here today as this can be fatal:ohmy:. I was on coumedin for 6 months and they did blood work to determine iF I had a blood clotting disorder. That was proved negative so it has been determined that the clots were caused by the birth control pills. I was banded on 8/29/08 and the only condition that my hematologist and pulmonologist required were that I have the IVC Filter placed in before the surgery as a precaution. So on 8/28 they put in the filter and then the banding was done on 8/29 and then the filter was removed on 10/13/08. I was on Lovenox for 2 weeks then continued with Coumedin up until 10/6/08. I have been lucky not to have any other occurences. Being on coumedin for life is no fun!!! Miss Nikkie

    Over 30 lbs lighter!

Long time no blog. Things have been going great. I am going to the gym 4x a week for about an hour a day and I walk 2 miles per day, 3x per week. I am still consuming about 1200 calories per day, haven't cheated with bad foods but I have eaten more than I should on a couple of occassions. I thought after my first fill I would start eating less but by dinner time, I'm ready to eat a regular sized meal. Of course it's a lot less than what I have eaten in the past, but after reading the thousand and thousands of post on this forum, I thought I'd be eating much less for dinner than what I've been. Still, my diet is not too bad considering I'm still sticking with 1200 calories per day. I am hungry in the morning and at lunch, but I can stop eating pretty easily. For breakfast, I normally have cream of wheat and some banana. I've eaten oatmeal with bananas too. Or I will have one half of english muffin with 2 egg white scrambled. For lunch, I would have about 3 oz of grilled salmon and maybe 3 bites of brown rice and however much bok choy I can eat. I've also eaten 1/2 of a turkey sandwich for lunch which has turkey, tomato and lettuce only and sometimes pickles. Come dinner time, I'm famished! I'll eat some chicken and rice but my portions are still big. Again, it's smaller than what I've eaten before being banded, but I think it's too big for someone with a band. Anyway, my next fill is not until next month, hopefully my appetite will change a bit after. My progress is excellent so not too much of a complaint, I'm just worried that one of these days I will get something stuck since I have yet to experience that . I went to a support group the other day and I think it's wonderful that there are such groups. It's nice to meet other people with the band and to see how successful it's been for them. It's inspiring and I hope one day I can speak at these support groups and tell my success story! Some day.... I posted some pictures with the latest being at 27 lbs lost. I'm proud to announce that I have passed the 30 lbs mark and have lost a total of 32 lbs so far. I love it! It's great feeling to have lost weight, it's a great feeling to breathe easier and to get a period for 2 months in a row! The up and the down side is that I need new clothes. I'm practically swimming in some of my pants, so I definitely need to get some new ones and a belt!
