    **snow** Finally!

Here it is 10:00 p.m. and it is still coming down like crazy. We have over 3 feet now. It just wont stop!! At this rate I wont be going to work on Monday! (I can pray) I saw on the news tonight that they are getting snow in parts of the Valley (Phoenix) Hey Jenna are you getting snow?
  2. Hi to all you fellow banders out there. All I can say is "Thank goodness for this website"!! I am 10 days post-band & for the last 5 days I have suffered from a reallly bad tummy upset. I'd not read anything on this subject anywhere else until I found this forum & was really starting to panic. I'm still on liquids (mainly s/f squashes/cordials, jelly & smooth yogurt/fromage frais, with the occasional icecream!) for two weeks (on instructions of my surgeon) then I can start on the mushy stage! Roll on Wednesday!! I've been lucky so far, no pain since day 3, no meds, no gas pain, no port pain, but my major concern was with the band slipping! The hospital placed sooooo much emphasis on not eating things for the first couple of weeks that would make your stomach muscles contract, so as not to break the stitches keeping the band in place. I'm sure that my stomach must have been moving like a washing machine, the feelings this tummy upset has generated!! Can anyone put my mind at rest on a couple of other things? Up until Thursday, I felt a real restriction when taking my liquids, even small sips of liquid seem to stick in my throat, but since yesterday morning, the fluids have gone down ok. Is this just the swelling in my stomach going down & the fluids passing through more easily or is this a sign that something is wrong with the band? Lastly, my wounds don't seem to be healing at all, not even the hole in the back of my hand from the drip, which is only small. I have changed the dressings & kept them clean & dry, they don't seem to be infected or anything, but I'm worried that the stitches will have dissolved & the wounds aren't closing up. Is this normal & is there anything I can do or take to speed up my bodies healing process? I've emailed the hospital for their views on the above, but with it being the weekend, I don't expect I'll hear anything till monday, earliest. Many thanks, in ancticipation! Suzi
  3. That's great! when this first happened to me I had no clue and started to panic! Thanks to this website I found others had experience the same symptons and I understood what was going on with your band being to tight. Now, I only get fills about every 8-10 weeks usually about 1- 1.5 ccs at a time since I can not take too much fluid. I'm glad your feeling alot better. I'm down from a size 16-9 and 44lbs down and 25lbs to go since being banded in Nov. Good Luck!
  4. Statistically, this is the time when regain happens. The ability to eat a lot more at this point is also common. The hard reality is that it's really up to us, at this point. I am also coming to the same realization. I am going to need to increase my diligence and really watch it, or I'm going to gain. I also have not gotten all the way goal (within 5-10 pounds and had plastics) so I don't have any wiggle room. My surgeon does not do revisions for regain. His coordinator openly said that at the last support meeting, stating that if you didn't do what you needed to do to keep weight off, a second surgery probably isn't the answer. He had also told me previously that they are finding areas of ballooning in sleeves which is probably the reason capacity increases, though there is no evidence to support that it causes gain, and the risk is higher, so not worth an unknown benefit. I always knew regain was possible. What I didn't know is how EASY it would be. I thought you'd have to really be going out of your way to eat wrong, way too much, etc. My harsh truth is that it only takes a little indiscretion, for a very short time, or those pounds pack on. Every veteran sleever I know who has regained says it's harder to get it off the second time, also a disappointing thought. However, I do know what it takes to lose the weight and maintain it, so that's what I've got to do. I saw some statistics @AlexBrecher posted, and I think it said revisions accounted for about 11% of all WLS. It didn't say what the revisions were. So while my surgeon doesn't support that, obviously, it is being done. I suspect some of those numbers are band to sleeve, or sleeve to RNY for complications. To answer your question - I'd be trying to go back to basics before I would undertake another major risky surgery to combat a regain of 20 pounds. You know what to do, you've done it before. Good luck to you.

    NJ Direct 10

You will have access to all the Managed Care network Physicians without having to select a Primary care physician. You will not need to obtain a referral to see a specialist. Your office visit copay is based on your plan $10 or $15 ( NJ Direct 10 or NJ direct 15.) Authorizations will still be required for some services Your plan allows out of network benefits-you can see any physician outside the Network, but will pay deductible and coinsurance. Travels out of state, you will be covered under the PPO Provider Network. hope this helps!

    Sleeve Fantasy Football Anyone?

Ok. The draft is Wednesday September 3rd at 10:45pm. We currently have 6 teams and 2 pending. I changed the name to Sleevers United because some folks from ObesityHelp may join. Sleevers United sounds kinda cheesy, so if you think of a better name please let me know. I appreciate and accept all input...positive or negative. I want our league to be an open forum.

    Ugh

Im 2 months out an Ive lost 30 lbs. I HOPE to lose 10 lbs this month to get me at 40. I think your loss is awesome! Keep it up!
  11. WOw!!! Thank you EVERYONE!! I honestly didn't expect to get responses so quickly. Im sooo fresh to this I haven't even gotten my insurance card in the mail yet. (My husband and I just garried Friday and we sent in our insurance paperwork) However, the enrollment packet did say in plain black and white that it does cover bariatric surgery. Now I understand that's pretty broad so should I still call and see if the sleeve itself is covered? Also, I have SO many other questions...I haven't had a PCP in about 10 years besides my latest which was only for prenatal care. (I had my son in Oct) Also, having just had a child, will that disqualify me? Ive had obesity issues for basically my entire life. Also, My mother has a Lap band and told me Im better off going straight to the Dr. because getting through insurance and getting questions answered is usually pretty hard to do. Will I need previous proof of health issues? I have family history or diabetes and heart problems. Im honestly just trying to feel out the play field first before I even get my hopes up! Im afraid Ill be turned down. And again thank you all so much for your speedy responses.

    Lazy Folks

Here it talks about fatness vs fitness http://todayiwill.com/2010/01/fitness-vs-fatness-diet-vs-exercise-for-weight-loss-2/#.UEGTK5R5t3o But i also must mention that i would not consider myself lazy even without your typical workout routine. I work horses daily and have a job that keeps me on my feet 8-10 hrs a day. Before surgery i could easy run up several flights of stairs without being winded. My NUT actually told me I could cut back to the lower Protein requirements if I wanted to lose some of my muscle to not be so "bulky." (Her body mass thingy put me in the OVER category for muscle mass) I laughed and told her no thank you I will keep all the muscle i can. So it truly comes down to how "Lazy" you are talking. I have low pulse and blood pressure and absolutely no comorbidities. But I am active in my everyday life. I will choose to add some exercise plans as i go. But to answer the original question... yes you probably can lose the weight you want with diet alone. But don't expect to feel your best or look your best. And there are things to do besides the typical gym exercise routines...

    Not sure what to expect

Did you doc give you a prescription for a proton pump inhibitor? Some mornings I will wake up with a burning feeling in my tummy that I confused with hunger in the beginning. I found if I take an acid reducer, I felt better and that feeling went away. As for feeling full...You are still very early out, you may not be able to tell "full" yet, I couldn't and wasn't able to do for a few weeks. If you stop before the ache you're probably doing OK. My signals for full can vary - my nose might run, or a I do a hiccup/burp thing, or I feel a jab in my stomach. At 10 weeks out, I try not to eat to that point of being full. I try to eat to the point of getting rid of my hunger, rather than feeling full.

    Stressed to the max !

Was banded at cibo clinic in 2012 , lost 50 pounds everything great ..then the clinic closes leaving everyone to fend for themselves unless I would like to pay an extra thousand dollars a year for care that my 18,000 dollars already paid for. They said drs. Anvari and Hong are still our drs. And if there's any issues they are there for us ...load of crap !!! I've been in constant pain for a little over a year ..no longer can I eat anything good for me ..only slider foods here because to eat anything else causes great pain. I have a 14 cc band with 8cc fill ..I have terrible left rib and shoulder pain , sinus issues , vomit all the time , feeling dizzy like vertigo , racing heart , but no one can find anything wrong ... I've tried numerous times as has my family Dr to get ahold of dr anvari ...no one ever calls back ...went to St joes emerge where both anvari and Hong work from ..to try to get un filled ...the emerge Dr says nope can't help you go back to where the band was placed ...explained what happened with cibo clinic and that drs anvari and Hong worked at cibo but emerge Dr still says we are not equipped to do un fills , I'm like seriously this is a bariactric hospital..so after spending 10 hrs on a few occasions in hospital no one will help me but they certainly didn't have a problem taking my 18,000 dollars to put it in .... I'm so sick and fed up with this band ...can anyone please help me or point me in the right direction.

    Cold more often ?

For the last several years I have kept my room 5-10 degrees cooler than the rest of my family's house, and my grandfather (who had a low thyroid) always kept his room insanely hot even in summer (New Jersey). I would stop going up there to see him it was so unbearable. I was sleeved 9 days ago, and I have stopped using the fan in my room, added an extra comforter, and have been doing most of my work from home in my (late) grandfather's room. My temperature set has completely flipped its field on me, and now I find myself constantly seeking out very warm spaces. It is a combination of a declining fat layer and the lack of carbs being burned up and released as heat. It is gratifying in a certain way. I think it will be far less embarrassing to ask for some heat around the Thanksgiving table rather than standing outside trying to catch drifts of cool late autumn air with everyone looking on. I think, however, that when we all move on to solids in a few months, our sleeves will be doing heavier lifting than they are able to do right now, and that process generates a lot of heat. I don't expect my current obsession with warmth to last all that long, even with (hopefully) drastically reduced insulation from adipose tissue.

    How restricted is your sleeve?

Thats good to hear. Because the way i feel, i want as much restraint as possible. How far out are you? Sent From Galaxy Note 5 using the BariatricPal App I'm only a month and 10 days out. I revised from the band to the sleeve on June 7th.

    New Bandster with quesions

Slider foods are the things that are so liquified once they hit your pouch that they go right through and you are hungrier sooner. For me, that is usually things that are carb based... carbs start being broken down in your mouth with the saliva that is mixed with them, while proteins require the chemicals in your stomach to start the breakdown process. The really bad part? All the calories are still available to you and absorbed. Another bad part? Get too used to them and you aren't using the band correctly. You can get stuck in a cycle of feeling hungry all the time even if you are eating pretty regularly. For sushi... I have always preferred sashimi... just the fish, no rice. So that is what I have when I go. As far as eating out is concerened, it took me about five months to go out to eat. It was when I felt comfortable knowing I could eat and stop when I was full. Now, one trick I do is that I bring my own plastic food containers, and when the food arrives I first remove the food I am not going to eat, and just get it off my plate. No need to ask for a container from the server, I just take care of it myself. The most important thing is to try things out. Nothing is off limits, it is just the quantity that you need to watch out for. Most people have no problem with spicy food, but that will be for you to find out when the time comes if your new stomach pouch likes the spicy. Personally, I start my day with a protein shake. My band is tight in the morning, and that is all I can handle but need fuel for spin class. It usually isn't until around 10 or 11 in the morning that I can handle substantial food. Also, by drinking at least one shake a day I know I am getting my protein in. Good luck! Keep up the good work, and ask as many questions as you need to in order to find the assistance you need!!!

    Sore From Surgery

Yes, that's normal. The anesthesia is still working its way out of your system, you've got some incisions, and in a sense your body's been through a trauma during surgery. Please stay as active as you can, even if you can only walk for 5-10 minutes at a time, in order to prevent blood clots.
  20. My doc's guidelines were 1 cup of food in 20-30 minutes. If it takes you longer than that, then you're 'grazing'. I can't ever remember being hungry, so I'd just measure out my food and when it was gone, I was done. After I had restriction, I noticed that many times I'd still have a couple bites left but something just told me that I was done. Hard to explain. The few times I ignored that little voice, that last bite kind of just sat there for 10 minutes until some moved out of my pouch. If all you had was 2 eggs, I wouldn't worry about it. If you had other things with that egg, then it'd be too much. .
  21. I'm on day 4 post op and I'm hungry! How is that? I thought hunger would not find me for awhile. I know it's just not head hunger as I went to bed and woke up feeling this way. My stomach is even growling. I had my first Protein drink which went down fine from 8-9, now it's 10 and I'm hungry. Anyone else experience this? Thanks
  22. I've had a gallbladder removal surgery so I'm expecting intense pain from gas but otherwise thank you so so so much for your well wishes!!!! I'm glad you're getting to feeling a little better! Yay buddies! I report at 10:30! How is prep going ???? I start in 50 minutes or so! Good luck to you as well! Looking forward to hearing how it went!

Looking for Lap Band to Sleeve Buddy

I also had my band removed, and had to wait 3 months. I was told is due to the scar tissue and it needed to heal before they do the sleeve, also insurance and you need to do some test over. I was sleeved on 8/10 and have lost 18 so far, I'm glad I did the revision, the band started giving me so much trouble and it begin to hurt. There is a 1500 calorie diet you can follow to help you maintain and not gain any weight, it was very hard for me and I found myself eating more, and more, I pray you can get it done soon, blessings to you all.
  24. So I have a 7 1/2 month old she weighs 19 lbs. Can I sit and hold her? And if I needed to can I lift her if only for moving her to her bed or in the car? Surgery Jan 8th 2013 Thanks in advance for ur help

    Pain

I had this too, as well as pain when I drank something cold. Am 3 weeks post op and still do feel pain when drinking cold drinks. Take my advice and go slow when introducing foods. I've made the mistake of thinking my "baby stomach" could handle a few bites of Pasta, for example, and (not to be gross) it came up 10 minutes later!
