Blah...my first stall...
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL I feel the same way. My normal weigh in day is Sunday, but I think I'll wait until Tuesday (my 4 week post op day) and hope I see something other than 363. I swear if I see 363 AGAIN the scale is going over the balcony (and I live on the 4th floor lol) -
My surgeons office says it’s normal for weight loss to be slow to start and sometimes even a little weight gain until week 6. If you are frustrated with it, can always switch something up. Eat more calories, workout a little longer, do a different workout entirely. I’ve been hiking with my dog the last few days for longer than our usual neighborhood walk and the scale is trending down. I’m out of the week 3 stall now it seems. The different elevation is probably helping me too—our usual walk is very flat, this new route is a little hilly.

So, did anyone else “stall” on week 2? I know about the 3 week stall, but I stalled when I switched to full liquid - even though I’m still under 500 cal per day. I actually gained a pound after the first day of full liquids. I am now day 13 post surgery and at same weight as day 7! I’m getting 60-70 G protein, struggling a little with water, but managing 50-64g and most days having around 420 - 450 cal/day. I am also doing 30 minutes on elliptical 4-5 days/week since Day 5 post-surgery.

Anyone suddenly get new food allergies after surgery?
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I discovered I have a brand spanking new allergy to shellfish. I had a weird rash on Monday and Tuesday. I couldn't figure it out, and then Wednesday it hit me. I started taking my krill oil supplement again (I always took it before with no issues at all, and my surgeon recommended it again once I hit 3 weeks post op). So since there had never been any issues with it in the past, I didn't even consider it an issue when the rash started. Anyway, on Wednesday I remembered it and decided to take it out of my pills and see how things go. Lo and behold, no rash. No redness, no itching, nothing. So I looked it up and the rash/hives are part of an allergic reaction to shellfish (and krill oil pills are made from krill which are shellfish). I read those allergies can happen at any time, but when they do, you always need an epi pen with you because the more times it happens, the worse the reactions will be, and a shellfish allergy is one that never goes away, no matter when it starts. I reached out to my primary doctor and she is having me come in for blood work and a skin test for allergies. She's also prescribing me an epi pen, because the 2nd time I took the supplement my tongue was tingly and numb and my throat felt a little tight for a bit. Has this happened to anyone? I've never had a food allergy ever in my life, and now I suddenly get a big one? What the heck??? -
My wife said they called her 3 hours after I went back. The doc said the surgery should only take 90 minutes to 2 hours. So, two to three hours, I guess.

I'm on day 8 of my stall, and it's really annoying me. I stopped gaining weight several days ago (gained 4 pounds) but now I'm just sitting here not moving at all. Hoping it's over in the next week. I've seen a few people on here say theirs last 3 or even 4 weeks, and that would just freak me out lol -
Anyone Struggle Watching Your Family Eat?
huskymama replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got an amazing veggie pizza with a cauliflower crust on it at Costco a few weeks ago. It was low calorie and omg good. I dont know if you have one around but if so that kills the pizza cravings at way less calories. It isnt that we cant ever have that again just try to pick a healthier alternative. For me I hadnt eaten pizza in a year so that was a big treat for me. I also wont make it a habit but made me feel “Normal” again lol -
I had the bypass almost 6 months gas pain was awful after and the gas pills may as well have been Flintstone vitamins. I had a hard time walking because of complications and having to go back in for surgery 4 days after my bypass as funny as this sounds car rides help also the seat need to be in an up right position though. No more constant gas pain after a few weeks. But I still get burpy alot Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

Getting money back from surgery
catwoman7 replied to liveaboard15's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
they often charge insurance companies way more than they charge self-pays. My plastic surgery was self-pay. I originally got a statement that my surgery (which I'd already paid for) was like three times more than what i paid for it. When I called, they said it was just a statement and to ignore it since I'd already paid. I'm pretty sure that was the amount that would have been billed to the insurance company if insurance would have covered it. -
Today I had my follow up appointment with my surgeon. He took one of my stitches out. I have been having pain on my left side in the abdominal region. He said that it was a seroma (collection of fluid) that should go away in one to two weeks. My face looks smaller today. I hope it will catch up with the rest of my body. The surgeon also asked if I would like to see some of my operation. He showed me what it was like inside my tummy and where he had removed some adhesions. It was pretty cool. Glad that things have gone okay.

Not sure if I should go through with it
Possum220 replied to corinne2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is a very big decision emotionally, physically and financially. You should not take this lightly. It is something that you will not be able to undo once it has been done. I found it helpful to write down a list of pros and cons. What do you have to lose and what do you have to gain? Are you happy with where you are at now? For me I know that I was literally killing myself with food. I couldnt walk far at all. Even two and half weeks later I can walk further and am in less pain. For me it is all about health. What will be the reason that is most important for you? 😊 -

Pain after surgery
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to JaJor0430's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the sleeve and the pain on the left where they removed my stomach HUUUURT. Had pain for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm exactly 3 weeks post op today and I finally don't have pain anymore. It definitely takes time to feel better. -
Blurry vision after surgery?
321 Lift Off replied to vilmarie.25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was under a major anesthesia cloud for a little over a week postop, including the blurry vision. It was difficult to keep my eyes open, even when I was not sleepy. After eight or nine days, the fog lifted, and my vision returned to baseline. -
Blurry vision after surgery?
nursenads replied to vilmarie.25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, was told it's due to the anesthesia, lack of vitamins. I'm 3 weeks post op and I still see blurry, hopefully after I start my pureed diet and start vitamins, etc later this week, things will change. If you're way out of surgery I would contact doctor. Not sure if I should go through with it
mgriffinal replied to corinne2022's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
To be honest with you having the sleeve was the best and worst thing I have ever done. I am about 7 weeks post op. Let me explain. I have lost about 60lbs and been able to get off some meds. I really needed the surgery in fear I was headed for a heart attack, diabetes or name any other bad condition. The surgery it's self was not painfull at all. The hard part begins after surgery with the stages of liquid diets, then soft foods, then more regular type food. Some foods are 6 months out advised. It's not easy inconjuction with the vitamin supplements needed throughout the day. I can probably eat about 4 ozs of food right now and it is difficult to get in all your fluids for the day. You have to be vigilant and dedicated. Would I do it again? Yes because it's for my health and I don't need to eat the amount of foods and choice of foods I was eating. Ultimately it's up to you and how much you need it from a health standpoint. It is great to get on ghe scale and see hard work pay off. Hope this helps you in some way making your choice. Hey! Yes, finally got a call back. I have a new coordinator which is super nice. My last weigh in is in a few weeks then will be scheduled!!! So happy you’re on your way as well. Thanks. -
So i had my surgery last month. I am self pay as insurance will not cover. I paid around $18-19K. I had to pay before i could have the surgery. A couple weeks after surgery i notice there was a claim from the hospital on my insurance for that same surgery for around $40K. Which they denied since its not covered. I called the hospital to find out what the heck is going on. So i gave them my receipts showing i paid the Surgeons fee, Surgeon assistant fee, Anesthesiologist fee, Hospital facility fee, complication coverage fee, Pathology, psychological exam, and nutritional evaluation. all coming out to about $19K. So they told me they would figure out what happened and why my they did my insurance instead of self pay. Today i get a email from the hospital that they switched me to self pay and that i am owed a refund of over $3,000 which was odd because i am not owed anything. So i called and they checked and checked and said they gave me a discount since I paid cash lol. So i was like... ARE YOU SURE... Because once i get this money i am paying off my credit cards and you wont be getting that money back... and they checked and said i am good. So i should be getting some moolah back here in the next couple days lol. So thanks for that mistake haha.

Pain after surgery
redhead_che replied to JaJor0430's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Week 3.5 from sleeve to bypass and still having pain. The internal stitch can be painful up to week 6 is what I hear. -
I had sleeve converted to bypass due to severe GERDS and H/h on 5.20. I spent weekend in hospital and wondering if anyone has struggled with a lot of pain on the right side. Weird I had pain in my back as well but the tenderness to stand up and sit down is hard. I can't lay in my bed yet, have to sleep elevated on my back due to the extreme tenderness on my side. Did anyone else struggle. I have 1 week follow up appt with doc Friday, but this pain is pretty rough. I am walking and have finally started passing gas but no BM yet. If you had pain, how long did it last? Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app

The two week pre-op diet SUCKS but once you make it through that you're golden. Also it's much easier to follow the plan once you've gone two weeks eating nothing, just having half a scrambled egg feels like you're indulging yourself. I also use Myfitnesspal, just make sure to keep up with it every day post-op.

Look into the pampered chef one. It versatile! Three trays for air fryer, dehydrator, little oven, and rotisserie. It’s a little more then Walmart small air fryer. I actually have both, but my pampered chef one is the best so far.
