    The Last 60 Lbs

It sounds like you are doing fine. There is even a good argument or two for doing a small maintenance period after about 100 lbs. Stalls are common, just seacrh the topic here you will come up with 100's of topics and replies. When we lose weight it isn't just about the burning the calories thus reducing the lipids. You body can store other things it anticipates it will need as you lose weight. It will shed them, however. You can have a stall break quickly, or slowly, a pound at a time, or WHOOSH! You are on the right track, log your foods. If not already consider checking out myfitnesspal.com. You got this, let it take time if it needs to.

Unlike you, I had no fear progressing in my diet! I was literally starving on liquids only. However, I had to stay on liquids for 4 weeks. Those first bites of mashed potatoes were heaven. And the refried Beans? Like they were waiting for me their entire life! And the yogurt....need I go on? Part of being banded is trying new things to see what you can tolerate. This is one of those times you have to be open minded and move on from what you're comfortable in. Start really slowly, with maybe 6 little bites, then stop. Next meal, add another bite. 1 can of tomato Soup lasted me 5 meals a day. And a cup of mashed potatoes lasted about 4 meals also. Are you scared it will hurt or that you'll gain what you've lost back? Marci
  3. Next Thursday is my last appointment and I make my surgery date...but i scared. I'm not sure if I can do this? I've been cheating on my dieting for about a week and a half. If I can't manage under the pressure now, how will I be able to after

This is not Lifetime! This is, like, a PARODY of Lifetime... Current mood:fallacious Category: Blogging So, I read recently that Ciss and I have a "Lifetime" -esque love story that practically yearns to be shared (Ok, let me first point out that I've actually heard this a lot. Cissy thinks this, and so do the strangers that we meet that she shares our story with (Anybody remember the couple from the Gomez concert?). Secondly, let me point out that my above use of the word "yearns" was intentionally ironic, since "yearns" is very much a Lifetime word.....not so much a Trey word. Thirdly, let me point out this may be my longest use of the parenthesis to date. I've even managed to work in the much-coveted parenthesis-within-a-parenthesis. Impressive, eh?). Well, to be fair, I used to think that too. Upon later reflection, though, I have changed my mind. "But why, Trey....why?" you ask. Good question. What follows below is a list of reasons that refute the Lifetime theory. 1) - I was never an abusive boyfriend that both scared and excited Cissy at the same time. 2) - Cissy's mother never uncovered long-buried dark secrets from my past that would come back to threaten all that I hold dear. 3) - My ex-girlfriend never plotted harm to Cissy in a passionate, yet ill-thought-out plan to win me back. 4) - That scary Wank Wank Wank violin music is not audible when I enter a room with a scowl on my face. 5) - Cissy doesn't have an identitical twin sister that she was seperated at birth from that would later come back into her life to wreak havoc. 6) - Ciss and I never teamed up to investigate the abduction of a local young lady, only to have the trail lead to a white-slavery ring that we broke up using only our bravery and wits. Oh, sure I could on, but I think I've made my point. If anything, our romance is more akin to a Spike- style movie. "Trey....", you may be saying, "You can't spring a theory like that and have no examples to back it up". Well, actually, yes I could, but because you and I have forged a genuine emotional connection, dear reader, I WILL show how The Trey and Cissy Story could totally be made into a spike-tv movie. 1) - I have a cool catchphrase ("What's up, mothafucka?") that I like to spring when nobody expects it. 2) - Ciss is kind of like my "sidekick". We have witty banter. 3) - Although I have the physical size and martial arts prowess (Aikido, mothafuckas......see how I did that? Catchphrase, my friends, catchphrase....) to be a total badass, I am really a friendly, sensitive guy 4) - Three words: Daily car chases 5) - Cissy is one stone-cold hottie in a league waaaaay above me, yet she's clearly devoted to me, mind, body (hehheh) and soul. 6) - We are considering getting a liscense to carry a concealed handgun. Why? Because we can. Again, I could go on and on, but I think I've proven my point. Tune in next time when I may compare my marriage to Starsky and Hutch......or maybe LaVerne and Shirley would be more applicable.........
  5. I know I can have sf popsicles, but next week (all liquids, only on clear now) does that mean I can have sf fudgesicles? Thanks! Sleeved 9/4 by Dr. Kim in Dallas! Robyn
  6. I am a little over 5 months out and have not really had a tough plateau yet. The longest was 4 days. They all stink though. Praying to not have one that lasts weeks until I.am at my goal

OMG LETS GET ON WITH IT

I think a lot of what you are experiencing is head hunger... we all get that in the beginning.. then poof its gone.. takes a couple of weeks or so to go away... but after that..I was never hungry ever again.. EVER.. its the oddest thing ever.. and my taste buds have changed... but thats ok.. Im happy the way things are.. Ive lost 86lbs in 4 months.. and its so great to shop at stores ive never gone to before.. I actually bought clothes at old Navy.. I fit in those clothes now its fabulous.. I find myself buying brighter colors..not the dark and black ones.. so best of luck on your journey.. the more dense and solid foods will fill you up.. just remember to listen to your stomach.. it will tell you weather you are full or too full.. have a great journey..
  8. I start my two week liquid diet today but last night I had these horrible nightmares. I dreamed I was starving on my liquid diet, I mean gut wrenching pain and delirious. I don't know why hadn't started the diet yet. Just kind of freaked me out.
  9. I Know the two weeks is for the benefit of reducing my liver so I have been strong and not cheated at all. What I can't figure out is why I've gained .2 lbs exactly everyday for three days in a row. Seems a little odd to me. Hope I start losing after surgery.

    Surgery Monday

I had surg Monday too, my paperwork says no vitamins until the first follow-up appt next week. If you don't have specific instructions I'd call the surgeons office & ask.
  12. In case any of you wondered what to expect. Of course I wasn't going to see my surgeon, he's too busy/important (I will see him Wednesday), but I saw his nurse and then one of the resident surgeons who I hate to say, did not instill confidence whatsoever. The nurse went over everything, was able to answer all my silly questions. Assured me the doctor will do the surgery and not the resident. Actually she herself had a gastric bypass 10 years ago, and gave me some tips (the usual ones we find here on this forum). She had me sign some more papers. She didn't have the gallbladder removal, so she went back in the computer and found that, and added it. ugh. The document did list that it was a laparoscopic sleeve with 5 incisions, or (possibly open) don't recall the exact wording. She said that is on every surgery "just in case". Not like they can wake you up if they run into a problem. I was okay with that. She gave me a pre op and post op instructions 2 pager (again, the typical stuff their nutritionist gave me months ago) I asked her about washing with hibiclens the morning of. She said that isn't necessary. To shower as usual in the morning. She said they do tell patients to wear clean clothes after showering in the morning to the hospital. (not worn before). She went into detail how the operating room staff will be putting something on my body to sanitize. I'm been dreading the dye drink leak test, but the nurse said they no longer do that. I was surprised to hear that. Maybe they check it another way, forgot to ask her that. After the nurse left, one of the resident surgeons came in. He just had it all wrong. Wanted to schedule me for surgery (I was scheduled a month ago (scheduled this Wednesday). Told me the wrong surgeon's name. (another doctor in the practice). So he went on to say, that there are three resident surgeons that the bariatric surgeons work with and one of them will be with my doctor during my procedure. I truly hope it isn't him. Then off to my anesthesia pre-op. This department was running about 30 min. late. ugh. He just wanted to know all of the clearances I had, if I had any list of issues, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, a slew of things. He determined I was healthy, checked my neck range of motion,, looked in my mouth, down my throat visually. Discussed the general anesthesia protocols. I asked him how long the surgery may take as how long I'd be under. He asked what doctor I was having, and when I responded, he said, OH, one hour, he's the best. I was happy to hear that. I brought up my surgeon thick eyeglasses. He laughed and told me the surgeon eye sight is fine, besides, he said my stomach is going to be on the best high definition gigantic screen in the OR. Funny, I know what laparoscopic is, but I didn't really think about the monitor it displays on. He did say all bariatric patients go to this one area for recovery, because so many obese patients have undiagnosed sleep apnea, so they need more nurses monitoring them while coming out of anesthesia. then I was sent to the lab for one more surgical test - a blood type screen test. then I came home and put most my Post-op stuff in one place, rather than squired away in between my families food. (see photo) I think I'm ready!!!!

I keep them at 40 or less, per my surgeon. It's very hard. Today I'm over by 3, but I'm not going to beat myself up over it. I had a bad week at work and even worse day today, so it's stressing me out. I rode 9.5 miles on the bike in 30 mins today to work out some aggression and burned off everything I ate!

    Veggies?

I'm 4 months po and down 105 from my highest weight and 74 from my weight right before surgery. I wasn't cleared by my Dr to have veggies, especially raw ones until I was 3 months po. The first month I could only have protein shakes and other fluids. Only after that I could start with a scrambled egg and other soft foods for 2 additional weeks and then anything I want after that point. From my experience once I started actually eating again my weight loss slowed down. I dropped 34 lbs the first month. I still focus on protein first and if I can a bite or 2 of veggies. If I can't get them in at meal time I will have a couple baby carrots for a snack in the evening. I think u are doing great on your weight loss so far. Like my Dr says and repeatedly tries to beat into my head, "you didn't gain the weight over night so you're not going to lose it over night either". I average now between 14-18 lbs a month which he says is average.

    Lump In My Throat

If I had to guess, you're taking too big of bites and/or eating too fast. Because of it you're not eating enough and hungry often. Try small bites, and I mean tiny. Chew it until mush and put down the fork and pause between bites. When I finally hit the Green Zone, I had about a week of relearning how to eat. Once I got my bite size small enough I was fine. Here's a picture of the bite size next to my finger nail for comparison:

  20. Hi everyone, I just found this web site. I am two weeks post op today. I just had my first adjustment today. I am doing well but just unsure what the future will bring. I will start to read posts on this website to learn more about living with the lap band. Chris

    2 weeks post-op

Well, my company switched to BCBS of Tennessee in January, and they won't cover the lapband surgery. I contacted Dr. Morton's office and it was going to cost me over 20k, so the decision to have the surgery in Mexico had to do with me having to pay for it out of pocket. I have never heard of anyone (and I've done a ton of reading) that was told they could eat solid food right after surgery. I've also never heard of anyone having an adjustment so quickly after surgery. The soonest I've seen people having their first adjustment is 4 weeks after surgery. My doctor doesn't like doing the first adjustment until 6 weeks post op. I hope everything continues to go well for you. Welcome to the board! This is a great place to gather support and information. Very nice and informative people visit this forum. T

    One week

It's been one week since my surgery. I'm glad it's over because I was so nervous. So far, the only problem I've had is the pain on Sunday/Monday (doctor saw me and it was just some irritation in the muscle) and also constipation. (I finally just went a few minutes ago....OMG, thank goodness!) When I had my pre-op I was weighing in at 273 and my BMI was a whopping 43. When I weighed at the doctor Monday, I was 264. On my scale last night, I was 264 as well so I guess I'll trust my home scale enough for my weekly weight log. Anyway, I'm excited! I'm on soft foods and I'm really glad because the liquid only diet was kind of scary because I was hungry a lot. I was wondering if the band would really help me. Now, after having soft foods for a couple days I am confident that very small amounts of food will make me full. I will have to get used to not drinking with my food though when I start solids in a couple weeks. That will be the real challenge. I know I can do it though. Yay for medical science!

    Zumba Classes

I LOVE ZUMBA! I am 5'3" and 200lbs (now) but started Zumba over 50lbs ago. I go twice a week and would go more if my gym offered more classes. The instructor always encourages people to go at thier own pace, so just get in there and MOVE! Good luck, everyone!

    Low Carbers question?

Jut an fyi: Fred Meyers has it's own store brand (owned by Kroger, so I'm sure Krogers also has them) has a pretty tasty low carb yogurt. Only 4 gms per container. In Feb, I gave Atkins a real try. Would've killed my mom for a cookie. My husband has no problem going off carbs but I' very cranky. Didn't cheat for 4 weeks. Didn't add yogurt or sour cream till the 3rd week however. They were too many carbs for my <20 gm allotment. 4 weeks later, I had lost 14 lbs. A month later, I've gained back 12 after resuming carbs. Thats why I hate diets. Marci
