Possible revision?
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to ventugurl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@@Steven1954, thanks for the additional input. The best to you. @@waterwoman, it's interesting how many ways there may be to go about getting revision covered. I hope the person who handles the insurance papers in my practice knows about my plan. The book is organized in a way guaranteed to make a person homicidal, so to speak. -
Hello. August 1 for me. Lapband was removed on April 25th. Doctor makes you wait 3 months before revision to RNY. What are you doing to get ready? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

What's the every day difference? Band to bypass
RJC5197 replied to onmyway11's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Ditto Cindy I was banded 23 yrs ago and dealt with issues for a looooong time. The revision to RNY is the best I have felt, and I like starting to get my life back. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Some of what you guys describe is what is happening to me! Since Nov. I have only been able to drink liquids and very few soft foods. I had a Barium swallow done and suppose to be good (no slippage). However, if I eat solids then I throw up. Some days, I can't even get soup down before it comes back up. So I resorted to drinking my calories (Starbucks, sodas, etc) I have wanted to do a revision to the sleeve but wondering if I have scar tissue (from reading what you guys are experiencing). Good Luck and hope we all start feeling better!

6 years post-op, thinking about Overstitch revision
LapGyrl posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi all! I haven't been on in forever. I was sleeved on 7/28/10 so I'm almost 6 years out. I have lost a total of 95lbs and just within the past year gained back 15-20. Lowest weight was 180 and now fluctuate in the high 190s. I have an appt in two weeks to discuss the Overstitch procedure. I had never heard of it until I requested a referral to a bariatric center to discuss a revision to my sleeve. I'm not finding a lot of information so I'm reaching out to see if anyone has this procedure and what their experience has been. I have about 40 more lbs to lose to reach a healthy weight. I absolutely love my sleeve and have had no complications. Feel free to ask any questions or leave feedback about the Overstitch procedure. Thanks!! -
Yes I take it every day. When I say no resistance. I can eat almonds, chicken not pureed, salad, each day I eat something new and each day I can do it without any issues. I started with just soups. I couldn't take the hunger pains so I started eating heavier things. I'm sticking to LCHF but I don't have any problem eating and I'm having a tough time knowing when I'm full. It's only when I feel I'm about to burst I really know. Then about an hour later I'm hungry as if I never ate prior. So I'm going to check into the PPI and instead of doing mostly liquids for Protein I'll try more animal protein and powder maybe. I definitely am interested in knowing how large or small my sleeve is. If I'm not satisfied I'm getting it revised right away. I want to nip it in the bud as soon as I can. what should I ask anesthesiologist during pre-op appt.
trekker954 replied to trekker954's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon wears really thick, thick, thick eye-glasses. So much so, after we went to my first appointment with him, my daughter asked if I really wanted him doing my surgery, maybe he couldn't see. Two things here, he is supposedly the best in CCF, Chief of the Department, and is where patients who have had botched jobs, come to when they need to be fixed or revisions. Second, I asked one of his interns straight out, if his vision was impaired in any way. they said absolutely not. I will be careful to see what they have me sign. I had to go to this hospital clinic a few years back for vertigo and was often sitting waiting for this or that test. Over the course of three hours, I must have had 8 students come in and question me about my symptoms and such. ugh. Hoping this is NOT the case in the hospital side of things. -
Despicable thoughts
stacyrg2 replied to WL WARRIOR's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
On a related topic, I still get judged by the non-obese for my size. Now keep in mind, I'm 2 years post VSG (and 8 days post revision to bypass because of GERD), have lost 130 lbs and wear a size 4. I was shopping at the outlets and went into Lululemon to look at the workout clothes. As I walked in the door, the greeter looked me up and down, smiled at me and sweetly said, "the size 12-14's are to the left by the men's". In that exact moment, she took me back to when I was 255 lbs. I felt so horrible and all I could do was turn tail and walk away. That moment reinforced to me how hurtful and harmful it is to judge someone solely by size. (Although it makes no sense given that I don't think I look like I wear a 12). Do I feel empathy for the obese? Yes. Do I wish everyone got to the point where they were ready to lose the weight? Yes. But I realize all I can do is try not to judge the journey someone else is on just because I chose a different path. Because I know from experience that it hurts. New Adventure Begins Today.. Pre-Op Diet
beabenitez1978 posted a blog entry in Just Another Day in the Life of Bea
So, perhaps I should have written sooner, but life happens... its been about a month since I found out that I was approved for lap band to gastric bypass revision. And today? I started my pre op diet, and I am hopeful this goes well. Is it weird that I am more nervous about this pre op diet than I am about the surgery?! -

@@Djmohr Your post really highlights a lot of my feelings about surgery. I had a friend that had open bypass back when that was the thing. They followed no post-op instructions, even up on a feeding tube at 26. That person never saw 35. I knew was doing the wrong thing, but I didn't know to what extent. It scared me. I thought, wow I can never have surgery the risks are too high. I had another friend that had surgery more recently, bypass. They never changed their eating. They never cooked, post-op they were on that Wendy's Chili (which is why it drives me insane that people eat it), keeping the fast food eating out mentality going. They still ate out and ordered the same types of foods, still had sugar all the time (there goes that dumping safety net theory). At that time I was trying to lose weight on my own following a WLS post-op diet, without having surgery. It was pure hell, normal people can't eat those quantities, but I was getting desperate. I eventually just went back to low carbing keto. This person never adopted a healthy lifestyle and just dieted after surgery using some diet plan created by their trainer. Now almost 4 years post-op, they have regained, after never meeting or getting anywhere close to goal, although they did lose over 100 pounds originally. They can't lose now, because they having too many issues making real changes. They never cooked, never learned about nutrition. Like when they aren't eating properly, they don't log it. The days you are eating off plan are the days to really log so you can see in print what you are doing and learn from it. Now they are at then end of the line with no options. RNY is it, there really is no revision from that and if you didn't learn to eat right when it was easy in the honeymoon period, you are screwed. Now you have to struggle like everyone else with very little support from your tool to help you. There is no malabsorption at this point to fall back on. The initial tightness of the pouch is gone since pouches stretch. So it drives me crazy to see so many people wasting their opportunity, because you can't get this time back. I need to learn to care a little less though, because I really need the support of being involved in a bariatric community to keep my focus. -
My lap band pre-op diet was so long ago, I don't remember how well I stuck to it. Now because of a revision to sleeve surgery, I will once again have to go through it. 2 weeks. 2 long weeks. I'm not looking forward to it. I've heard of some doctors who just say stay under 1000 cal. Others says pre-op diet for sleeve is unnecessary. I have a friend who said their doctor told her 3 weeks liquid diet. Other than Meal Replacement shakes, what else is allowed? I don't remember anymore and maybe it's different than a pre-op lapband diet. Thanks.

19 days until "Revision" ...HELP?
Threetimesacharm replied to LadyStardust's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision from sleeve to gastric bypass; the best decision I could have made. Weight maintenance seems to be much smoother with the GB and I am able to keep it off and have great restriction. If you have a great surgeon, don't worry, you will do great! -
Possible revision?
waterwoman replied to ventugurl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Check your insurance policy before losing any weight. Mine would cover the revisions, but only if I had a BMI of 35 with 2 co-morbidities. Because I found that out first, I gained the few pounds needed to qualify before I "weighed in" at the surgeons office. -
Possible revision?
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to ventugurl's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@@Steven1954, thank you for the information. By coincidence I learned this evening that NYS, it is the state which is the external reviewer. Even better, it seems that NYS always or virtually always approves in cases where the patient has a Medicare-related plan or Medicare. I do know of the Lindstrom office. Are you in NYS? Mine is Oxford Medicare, a.k.a. AARP Medicare Complete. My source told me that the state approves if traditional Medicare covers revision, which is what I'm googling to find. My band has not been removed. I have an appointment week after next to start determining whether it still has life in it, but I doubt it. My chances of succeeding under my own steam, without the aid, are nil. I'm open to going to sleeve. Are you planning further surgery? -

Candygyrl replied to SiSSi829's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I admit i just read her initial post and it just struck a nerve. Regardless I'm sure she can care less what I think but from what I see she's been rather defensive towards anyone who has less than supportive things to say. Everyone's journey is different. I can't dream of eating bacon or anything that is not considered healthy for my body and to hear of someone doing it (although I'm sure there has been worse stories) was just astonishing to me. I was preparing sliders and french fries for my family last night and although they looked and smelled delicious that was the end of it other than thinking of healthier versions for future references aka turkey burger slider w/swiss cheese and tomato wrapped in Boston lettuce. I'm so thankful for my sleeve and I never want to have to have a revision and the only way that will happen is if I make a firm decision to remain compliant with lifestyle changes. No one's perfect or none of us would be here. But I have to question ones commitment level or rediness for change when they are willing to eat bacon not even a week post op. So quick to fall back into old habits. I understand this is a forum meant to encourage and support others and although i make no apologies for my premature comments, I will refrain from making comments that come off as less than supportive in the future. Good luck on your journey. -

I have been reading these forums about 5 years; I am 4 1/2 years post revision to sleeve and maintaining a massive weight loss - so one of the cranky vets around here. My primary comment is that your surgeon's guidelines do not fit, even remotely, the "norm" based on what others have shared, what I have read on websites of major respected bariatric centers etc. While we do each need to follow our program to maximize success, I really question whether a month of clear liquids acheives anything. When I read the details of your program it looked like a plan to maximize initial weight loss - but that won't work if you can't stick with it! Besides, in my experience, the real power of the sleeve is that time period when you begin solid food (for me it was around 6 weeks) through the period of time when your hunger returns (for me, it was about 8 months post op). Tiny amounts of solid food were all I needed to feel great, and lose weight during that window. It helped me change my relationship with food, but suffering through an extended liquid diet would not have done that. I am not sure what I would do in your shoes because you do need to follow a program, but I would not be happy with your program either. -
What can I expect as a guy having the gastric bypass surgery.
summerset replied to cybershank's topic in The Guys’ Room
I had a slightly dilated distal esophagus, severe volume refux and an axial hernia (band removal alone wasn't enough) so I got a revision to bypass and the hernia fixed. Sleeve would have been the wrong treatment for this. -
Starting over with the band..
betrthnever replied to secretstolen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
After thinking about this, I feel I need to say that I understand that not every one can have a revision, or even WANT a revision. I met a woman at my work today and she still has her band (she was banded a couple of months before I was) and right now she is unhappy with it but her BMI is not high enough, and she's not sure if it will be covered. I myself was denied for a revision in 2014 with a BMI of 37 because I technically had no issues with the band at that time. What helped was that my barium swallow showed in 2015 that the band had moved, and even though it wasn't officially a slip it was enough for the dr to convince the insurance company. So Secret, I DO hope you make it work!! -
Great job on your loss so far! I agree - slow and steady wins the race. I'm another band -> sleeve revision, and had the exact same experiences which made me want to do the revision. I'm getting used to measuring stuff now even during the full liquid diet... it's kind of nice because it makes it easy to keep track.

Djmohr replied to SiSSi829's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@OutsideMatchInside Thank goodness someone gets it! Too bad the others don't get this is not about a piece of bacon. This is about helping others. It's everyone simply excusing the behaviors and worse yet, telling her to ignore her doctors orders and move on. Yes, we are all human but when you go through months/years of preparation and in the first week that's what you do? I don't know about you but honestly I was devastated everytime someone gets on here and they are denied by their insurance and cannot pay out of pocket. I remember being so I'll that my doctor told me I had one foot on a banana peel and one foot in the grave. I just don't get squandering your 2nd chance in life. And for those of you saying well, maybe I wasn't that sick...I ask then why did you have this surgery? Then we have newbies that simply disregard doctors orders and even worse yet, give some new person medical advice that you know they want to hear. What the heck??? We are not doctors nor do we know why her doctor has her on a liquid diet for so long. She was a revision, right? Why didn't the first one work? I don't know this nor does anyone else but maybe, just maybe there is more to the story. Others read this and assume that oh, 1 tiny piece of bacon didn't hurt her so I would probably be ok too? This is not all about the OP. This is about people who have not had the surgery yet, or just had it or have not even gotten to their goals giving the OP advice to disregard doctors orders. Some people want to hear those words.....and will act on it. Too bad if people think I am being mean. I think I am being upfront and direct. Read whatever you all want in to that but someone has to shake some sense into those that just don't get it. Ok.....I am officially done ranting. -

crazyplantlady replied to SiSSi829's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If the piece of bacon was so small, why even eat it? 1 slice of bacon contains 3g of Protein, and the "tiny" amount you had couldn't have had much more than 1g if even that. That amount of bacon wouldn't have cured any weakness or dizziness you were experiencing. Not with the nutritional value (or lack thereof) that it has. It is all in your head, and you were creating reasons to allow yourself to make bad choices. You have not been skipping over negative comments, you've been replying back to them with aggression and immaturity. You can go back and read tons of topics similar to what you have posted on this forum. People who respond similarly to you end up getting MORE replies they hate, and more people that tell them they were wrong because from the way they reply it doesn't seem like they get it. People who respond with grace, admit their mistake, and accept it aren't met with harshness. Those posts disappear because there's no reason for them to continue. Reading your posts, it doesn't seem like you understand. "I've heard hunger can be dehydration but I don't feel dehydrated" most of us don't understand the difference. You can not biologically feel hunger after sleeve surgery, you're no longer making the hunger hormone. "I don't think the amount of bacon I ate was wrong" It WAS wrong, because bacon has no nutritional value and is solid, and ANY amount of solids, especially a WEEK after surgery can tear your stomach open and result in your death. You mentioned that you had a band to sleeve revision. These bad choices that you made are the reason your band didn't work for you. You need to learn to make better choices so that your sleeve works for you. Your doctor is frustrated with you because he knows you make bad choices and nothing you have shown him indicates that will change, therefore he regrets your surgery. You think that no one here would care if you die. Umm... we would. People responding with harshness are doing so because they don't want to see that. Many WLS programs require people to attend therapy or support meetings. I would highly suggest you start taking part in such things, they will help you. They have helped many of us.
