RNY on Monday 12/14 some unexpected things
Klolojadie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my RNY two days ago, I spent only one night in the hospital because my vitals were great, but I have been in so so much pain. I've really been shocked at the amount of pain I've been in. They gave me Dilaudid (sp?) and it does help some, more than the Oxycodone they started me with. It is, however way easier for me to drink Water than I was expecting which must be a good thing. I don't feel any extra pain when I drink but it still takes forever. I haven't yet gotten in 64oz of water in a day. Today I tried my first Protein shake after getting in about 10 oz of water. I'm using Premier Protein rtd shakes from Sam's Club and they're wonderful. The Protein Shake is also going down very easy but I'm wondering if, like food, I should be trying to get it in within a timeframe. Thankfully walking is getting easier, everything seems to be getting better and best of all I'm not hungry in the slightest even though I've eaten nothing since last Saturday. I really like that. Anyone have any tips, pointers or pearls of wisdom for someone just out of surgery? I'd love to hear the things that helped each of you get through this stage. Joy -
Only lost 10lbs - WTF
tebowfan replied to Roostertail2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, most people gain up to 10 lbs cause of the Iv fluids we get at hospital. Also they air up our stomach so you poofy. Don't worry, very soon the scale will start moving. -
The key is, it doesn't really matter how fast or slow you lose the weight, so long as you eventually lose it. In the grand scheme of your life is it going to matter that it took you 6 months or 12 months to reach your goal when you've been living a happy, healthy life for 10+ years? We are all in this horrible mentality from past diets where we feel like we're in a race to goal so we can be "done". News flash: we'll never be "done" with weight loss surgery!

I am extremely tired and frustrated. At least two nights a week I awake choking on stomach acid! Tonight it really scared me because it seemed to burn the heck out of my vocal chords! It took at least an hour for the burning to stop. I was literally crying. I had surgery in Mexico so my family doctor has been trying to help me.. First I was on Nexium. That didn't solve the problem so now I'm on Dexilant! I am wondering what else may work.. I am 10 weeks out, I eat the right foods, and I don't eat too late. Now, I'm scared to sleep for fear of choking!! Has anyone else had a similar issue or know of a medication that may help?????

Protein HELP!
NewYearNewMe2010 replied to NewYearNewMe2010's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr preop diet is 1 day of liquids & fasting after midnight. I am planning on 3 days of semi liquids & trying to beef up my protein before Wednesday. I am trying to take it easy on holiday meals. Saturday is the last one (I hope)! So beginning Sunday I am planning on liquids for 2 meals & 1 low fat meal high protein meal. Does that sound ok?? I really haven't been given any preop diet other than the day before. I was just told I need to loose 3 pounds before the day of surgery. I think I am down 10 right now. Really unsure but thankful for the forum! -
Hi my name is Maribel im 5.5"a mother of 3 beautiful kids and 24 years old. I have struggled with obesity since I was little. I managed to be healthy when I was 15 but then got pregnant by my first born then a year later I had my second child. I was very thin when I got and had my children but when my 3rd child arrived in 2007 I weight 160 lbs. After that I just blew up and never was able to loose the weight. I currently weight 271 lbs. The biggest ive been was 160lbs. So I decided to get the Vertical Sleeve and right now im in process of it. I already attended the Orientation and the Consultation with the Doctor. I start my classes on July 23, 10 and im so happy. Even though my husband and kids tell me that im beautiful I still feel uncomfortable. I just can't wait to do this and I hope that everything goes good for me.:thumbup1:

My 19 month old granson is not saying much yet, but yesterday he was over to get in the pool and walked up on his Pop's dip cup and started saying, yuk, yuk, yuk, which was nothing compared to the face he was making. Where's that camera when ya need it, LOL.

I will check out some of those. Have looked at Lands End. I can get into a size 8 but more comfortable in a bigger size, like a 10 or even a 12 because of loose skin issue. I didn't think it would be the issue it is, but alas my true size eludes me because of it. I saw some cool looking suits on Nordstrom website too. I guess I will check them out and give it a shot. Heading to the beach next week so gotta order one soon or hit one up at a store... thanks for the suggestions!

Hi Faith, I'm not banded yet; I have my first appointment on Sept 10. I had to laugh when I saw that you pureed baked beans and a hotdog, I almost said "Yuck" but I know I'll be there myself. I am waiting for my magic bullet to arrive and I know I'll get great use of it.

Swimsuit online? Where?
sunflowerchild replied to Nevermind's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am a 32 DDD and a size 8/10 on the bottom. I just got two bathing suits from Victoria's Secret. The key for me was to get a top that is completely adjustable around so that the cups would be big enough but the around part could be as tight as needed. I also got a crop top bikini top which doesn't have underwire (has soft cups) but still feels very supportive and is comfortable. I can try and find the links if you're interested. -

Protein And Constipation - Weight Gain
HadToDoIt40 replied to HadToDoIt40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still VERY much a work in progress and so new at being sleeved that I am not sure about suggestions. Everyone is so different. I can tell you even though I have lost about 19 pounds since the actual surgery on 4/2 and 26 pounds since the last week in March.....it is a process. To feel "emotionally" starved and not be able to see immediate results is something that I deal with. I probably consumed anywhere from 2000 to 3000 calories a day before surgery. Now I consume approx 500-600...you would think I would be 10 pounds by now! LOL! But I have to continually remind myself...it took me YEARS to get the weight on...it is going to take time to get it off. That is my saving grace.... not sure if this is what you were looking for... -
Misty & Jennie Glad to hear you're doing great..! Im still personally struggling with the Protein Water combo... I too have a lot of gurgling and found if i drink more than 3 ounces in 45 minutes then I feel pretty crappy (cramps, discomfort) so i've been moving pretty slow. Ramona Keep your head up mama !! I go see the doc on friday and while I dont feel dehydrated ive only been able to get in about 30 ounces of water daily.. I'm going to visit him at the hospital b/c he'll be doin rounds It wouldnt surprise me if I got myself some IV fluids tomorrow. I too have been light headed but I think its b/c of the nutrition.. only about 8-10 oz of protein a day. yikes.. good luck ladies..

Thrift stores and clearance racks have become my new best friends! I don't think I've spent over $10 for anything lately! it's so nice to have a smorgashboard of items to choose from! Unlike the plus sized racks (damn you designers!). My biggest shocker was my shoes! I have been a size 8 forever, and just a few months ago, realized I'm now a 7.. That part I didn't like. I'm not much into shoes..so I hate shopping for them (prefer barefeet! ) And I am also curious how consignment shops work. I have a few very nice party dresses that I need to hand off.

You're right. But I noticed I kept telling them I was a 6 on the pain scale. They kept writing 5 because that was their goal. I felt neglected at times. I had to beg for Dilaudid because I was in so much pain in my neck and shoulder. I'm a nurse. Documenting and treating a patients pain differently than what they tell you it is is unethical. A patients pain is always what they say it is and should be treated accordingly within the parameters of the physicians orders. (And, yes, that includes drug addicts who are playing on their phone laughing while telling us their pain is 10/10. As long as I have a physicians order for pain medication and it has been the appropriate length of time since their last dose I have to treat their pain). All that considered, we do try to move patients off of IV pain medication to the oral as they approach discharge because you'll only have oral when you go home. That may be why they shied away from the dilaudid but they should still treat your pain if it is out of control or at the very least explain that to you the way i just did. You know, now that you said that, I think she was trying to get me used to the liquid norco since it's what I would have at home. But it was impossible to sleep that night because of the pain. She finally gave it to me when I started sounding like I was going to cry. I don't like the way Dilaudid makes me feel, but it does help with the pain, so I'm all for it at this point, lol. I just found it strange that they kept putting a 5 on the board instead of a 6. Even when I said 7, they put a 5. Holy crap! Almost 100 pounds in 7 months?! You go girl!
