    1 week before surgery. 259#
  2. Had mine the 23, this is normal, about 3 days from now it will be less. The area you describe is where they made 4 or 5 incisions and on the left is where they pulled your stomach out. It's normal for it to feel tight. It will take weeks until you feel no tightness in your trunk but the pain will be much less very soon.

    Maybe I shouldn't have.....

I know how frustrated you are. It is all about thinking positive. I focused on the small changes. They get bigger as time passes. In one weeks time I was not huffing over a hill I had to walk from my car to the beach. Every Tuesday I meet my kids at. I took my shakes and Water. And saw inside 3 weeks my energy grow. That was my victory, then saw the scale say 20 lbs down. Now I'm all in! Stay on this site and use the feed back to keep you going! We are here for you!!!!! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

1st Step Deciding and GP visit in the Uk - NHS

Well I have been battling with my weight for years and tried every diet known to man - Well there are very few I am sure I have not embarked due to financial matters. Anyhow my last venture was just doing the Atkins diet for the 4th time.. I failed previously because I had no imagination what to eat just the same boring foods. This time I found plenty of recipies and a good support system. I however lost 5lbs in the first three days< which thrilled me to bits>. On the six day I had some light coke which said it had one carb. .... Well without using bad language it was rubbish. I put on 5lbs overnight. This really took the wind out of my sails and I was really deppressed. I rememberd my doctor saying that with my family's history being so bad and with the amont of weight I had to lose she would do her best to put my case forward if I wanted. I had my appointment with her yesterday. She said that it will not be a overnight process and could take months to go ahead .... I don't care right now. I just think that having done research everyone that has had it done their life has improved. I feel a bit embarressed that I have to take such severe action to get my life back. But you know ... It is available and a Gods send. So if it helps why not....... It is not up to others it is for me. I have been on UTUBE and there are some really amazing stories . .. It really does help to see real people going through this Journey. So if you guys have a story post it . It gives hope. And if you are starting out - God Bless and see you when you are back.. xxxxxxx

    When to unfill?

For the past two weeks, when I lie down at night, I get heartburn and one night some reflux. I was also having some troubles eating. It would hurt most of the time to eat. I thought it would get better, but I decided to get a small unfill. I am going Tuesday, and I hope I'm not messing up getting a small unfill, but that heartburn sucks. I did take a Nexium the other day, and I haven't had heartburn since then. It also seems like I can eat a little more since I took the Nexium. It's weird, but I think a small unfill will do me good.
  9. I am 4 weeks out and I split it up through out the day. Wake up Protein shake Midmorning at work, greek yogurt lunch bare burito or baked potatoe or I'll have about 3 oz of deli meat and cheese Midafternoon shake or greek yogurt dinner 3oz of what ever meat hubby is making Evening protein shake My issue before was that I ate until I was over full and I am finding that I do the same a little bit now. Not to the point of getting sick but being really full. I still only get in about 3 oz when actually eating food. Gotta work on that.

    Thoughts?

For dinner I had 1/4 cup of mashed potato and 1/4 cup of hormel turkey n bean chili. I mixed it in the bullet (so much for not blending meat lol) and it was actually delicious... I ate the whole thing... Shouldn't I be full???? I didn't feel any restriction... I'm two weeks n 2 days out... Thanks

    What the heck...

So I was banded on 4/23 and I have done good...However I know feellike I have no restiction and I am stuck...! I have not gained anything, but I have not lost anything in a week either... I almost feel like I have fallen off the ship and I am swiming as fast as I can to get back on.. Has anyone else had any of the same feelings?
  12. So I am three weeks post op and this is my last day of liquids!! I'm excited but nervous only because of the what if's of everything. I must say I do feel good but have to laugh because I have an eleven month old at home and feel like we are trying new foods together! I am worried that food might get stuck. I am just totally nervous of what life has to bring me being heavy my whole life and am not the social butterfly. So it's totally new to me I' scared and excited all at once!!
  13. I'm considering this surgery after researching all the bariatric surgery options. It seems it has the least amount of side effects, a great initial weight loss, and a decent long term weight loss. It all sounds really great, but I need to hear the "dark side" of it all, before I make the decision. I need to know the worst of the worst before I move forward with this plan. A little about me, I'm 31, 5'10", 280lbs. my BMI is 40. I've just had my second child 4 months ago, and my post-baby weight is the same as my pre-baby weight...which, as it happens, is the weight I've been for the last 6 years. I've always been an athletically built girl...never super skinny...but at my best shape, I was a size 10 and weighed 170. I also didn't have 2 kids, a husband, and a career, so it was a little easier to take care of myself. Weight problems run in the family; my mom and younger sister are both morbidly obese, as are all the women on my mom's side of the family. No one really sticks to a diet or exercise program, they just like to complain and blame their lots in life on their weight. I'd like to break the cycle while I'm still young, and can enjoy an active lifestyle with my family, etc. I feel like the surgery could give me the boost I need to lead a healthy, active, confident lifestyle I so desperately want. BUT, I'm concerned about the post-op world I'll live in. Here are some questions I have: 1. since you can't eat much, is your energy really low? I have to take care of 2 kids, so low energy is not too appealing 2. will you ALWAYS only be able to eat small amounts? Or, will your stomach stretch back to normal size eventually? 3. once you get past the first few weeks of liquid and soft foods, what dietary restrictions are there in your normal, day-to-day life? 4. I've heard you can throw up if you eat too much, what other physical side-effects can I expect post-op? 5. any regrets??? Thanks in advance for all your feedback. Some days I think this is the best idea ever, and other days, I think I'm crazy to consider it... just looking for answers either way at this point.

    CONSIDERING VSG - NEED HELP

DarGar27's advice is the same as mine. The sleeve is a fabulous TOOL for helping change one's life for the better! I battled weight most of my life and until I turned 50 was never really obese at all. I had my surgery this year at age 60, and if there is any regret it's that I wasn't able to have this done 10 years ago when the weight started packing on with thyroid problems. I had about 5 weeks of lack of much energy but I never was sick at all, never regretted this, and have only totally enjoyed MORE energy and the happy effects of looking better and feeling better. I love sizing down in clothes and knowing I won't even save them in case I ever need them again! I have a wonderful support group monthly and it's really a great way to get tips on foods to try, etc., as well as help others coming along behind us!
  15. :confused:i have not had a fill since 2-08 i have been very tight and know i have been playing with fire staying so tight but the last time i when to my dr. when i was so tight he took to much of the fill out and i could eat a horse and was really hungry!!! i have had heartburn at night, and my band is very finicky i never know what will stay or what will cause a pb!!! but i have learned to eat less and stop eating before 6:00 at night and for the first time i have lost weight at a steady pace since feb (1-2lbs a week). but the last few days i seem to be able to eat a little more and haven't had heartburn. could this be a slip or the band losening up some since i have lost around 40lbs since the last fill??? oh and i don't have any pain unless i am stuck. i seldom ever post but to read a lot on the board and have not really seen anyone with this problem

    Ex-Smokers...Cravings?

I was sleeved Nov 6 and quit smoking probably 3 weeks before surgery. I have had cravings also, and several times have had a puff from one of my mother's cigs (she is living with me right now) and it tasted/felt gross, disgusting, icky. Yep I kept trying thinking it would be good but it was not!!!! I'm not recommending trying a smoke, just telling you how I have dealt with it. Also a good thing to think of, after going through the surgery so we can be healthier and feel better, why continue to hurt our bodies with cigarettes? Wish you the best of luck
  17. I found that port surgery I could drink a lot more than the 1-2 oz every 10-15 mins recommended. I presumed that was fine since I experienced no ill effects. But when I met with my NUT last week (I was about 9 days out at the time), she scared me straight. She said that, while I CAN do it, i shouldn't. That my stomach shouldn't be working to hold more than the recommended amount. I'm sure advice varies, but my surgeon was also very specific and said NEVER drink more than 2 oz in 15 mins. For you, probably best to shoot a note to your doctor to ask?
  18. I got sleeved on Oct 8, 2015 and everything went well... Two and a half weeks later I started getting really nauseas and sick. I went to the ER twice and they said it was just side effects of surgery and I'll be fine and sent me home with nausea meds. Well fast forward two weeks I was still really sick and the meds weren't working so I went back. A fever told them I had an infection somewhere but they just had to find it. Long story short, I've been in the hospital for over a week now with a leak and an abscess and on so many meds I can't count. I'm not upset that this happened, I understand complications happen. I'm just struggling today, I am impatient and having a hard time waiting for my body to heal itself. The Dr said its a small leak and it should close itself and they'll put in a stent if it comes to it. But it looks like another 2 weeks of waiting and hospitals... Also I really miss drinking. I'm NPO and really just want to sip on some apple juice... Ok I'll end my rant. Just looking for some encouragement

    Dry-heaving

Passing gas is very normal during the first few weeks after surgery. After that it becomes more manageable. Also it is common to hit a stage called "Never trust a fart". Luckily that stage does not last long.
  20. Thanks Rebel. Congrats on your mushie phase! I was so excited when I started mushies! As far as being nervous, its completely normal to feel that way! I was so scared about "how does it feel to feel full?". I can only tell you listen to your body and when you feel full stop. I have learnedd that the hard way. Asfar as the weight, it is still at a stall but I have noticed some inches coming off. So thats good rght? Lol I'm trying to not stress about it anymore. Just push on. My water intake is more and my excercising is going good so its bound to come off soon I hope. good luck with your journey amd same goes to you. If you have questions, want to vent or anything. Im here!
  21. I'll be honest I was wondering the average too. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks for me and I'm down 16 lbs. My personal goal was 20 lbs but I stalled out over a week ago. It's funny because I didn't think of "walking" as minimal exercise. I walk 2 miles every day but is that consider minimal? Maybe I should be working out harder?
  22. Hello. How long ago was your surgery? I had my surgery June 1st. I felt good for a while. I've lost 50 lbs. so far. But this past week or two I have been really neause's. I can hardly eat or drink anything. I'm not sure what is up, but it's very upseting.

    11 Weeks...Calories?

Mine gave me a calorie goal of 1500, with 85g protein. From what I've been reading, it seems like a lot compared to other people. I'm about halfway there on a daily basis already and just over 2.5 weeks post-op, though - so it may not be as far fetched as I think.

    The Horrible Scale

The scale has not moved down in about one week. I am pissed. I am now on Stage 5 for life so maybe my body is adjusting to food. I took my measurements one month ago and again today. I have lost inches so that makes me feel good. I finally fit into my misses size jeans, 18!!!!!! I haven't seen that size in over 10 years. Enjoy your Columbus Day weekend everyone.

    The Horrible Scale

I've been at a stand-still for about 7 weeks. It can take a huge toll on you mentally. I've had to take a step back and be proud of my progress, or else I would have lost my mind by now. Just know you're body is changing and adjusting. You'll get there.
