  3. I’m on day 5 post op. Everything seems to be going pretty well. My Dr has moved me to phase 2 eating, creamy soups, yogurts ith fruit flavor no pieces of fruit. Also soft boiled egg To go along with my protein shakes. I started my bariatric vitamins B12 dissolveable tablet, Calcium Citrate 1000mg chewable(not so great) and a multi that looks like a starburst candy!!!! So far I have been walking abouT 1.5-2 miles each morning( not today 12in snow) I find it easier to drink while on my walk rather than sitting down. I have to say that I am not hungry at all. I know I have to eat which I am doing getting in 60-80g protein and 64 oz liquids. It’s just weird that I’m not looking to graze in the fridge!!!! Also I am keeping a food journal, times and how much and protein taken in and am also using Baritastic app to track weight and goals and food as well. Might be a little over kill the journal but for now I seem to like it. Just wanted to share my first week with everyone because I’m proud of the work I’m doing!!!!

Thanks all for your suggestions everyone. I actually shop at Kroger but never looked for a lower carb yogurt. I will look for it this weekend when I go shopping. When I think about what I lost I am proud of myself but I guess since I have a cold right now and feel crappy all my old way of thinking is coming back to me. The stinking thinking has kicked in big time

Hi July Bandsters - I thought I would share a somewhat humorous event from last night. First, I'm still on liquids until this weekend when I transition to mushies. Anyway last evening I had to take my elderly dad to the hospital (he's ok). We were there for 6 hours and I hadn't put anything in me. So while he was being tested I went to the cafeteria for something to eat. Of course since I can't eat solids yet my choices were extremely limited. In fact the only liquid option was the gravy from the fried chicken meal! Yes, I was so hungry I almost got just a cup of gravy. But, I perservered and found some yogurt instead. If I was in a different place (pre-band) I may have ordered the gravy for my dinner. I guess I am making progress. Hope everyone is doing well. Kathy

Orea, you get to be on full liquids already? I had to wait until today...my 11th day! =( On the 9th I did get to have a yogurt smoothie, 10th day I started 1 protein shake and today I incorporated the cream soups and stuff. These docs are all so different.

Hi all, I have gotten a new job. All is well but I can't eat any snacks like I did before because I only get a lunch and no breaks. I am still wondering about this because I thought they had to give you at least a ten minute break once or twice a day besides lunch. As it is I only got a lunch after 4-5 hours of working. It is very crazy right now. Question for you all. I am so hungry by lunch and dinner that I am eating to fast and we all know what that means. Any suggestions on what to do or how to sneak more in when I can't get off the phone? Oh by the way I am working at a call center again so I must stay on the phones. When I went to find a new job I had to start all over again which means being back on the phones. Here is my typical day 8am at home - breakfast either egg salad or chicken salad I make 9am-protein drink of some sort because I am drving to work to start at 10am ( I work 10am - 7pm or 11am - 8pm depending on their needs) 2pm or 3pm - depending when they let me go to lunch I have tuna salad or chicken salad or a plain no bun burger or veggie burger. I also have yogurt and/or fruit with maybe a couple high fiber crackers Dinner 8 or 9pm - usually whatever I cook for my family or whatever my DH makes. Something like chicken cabbage alfredo ( no pasta) or sloppy joes (no bread for me), grilled chicken, spagetti, etc.... I do have a problem with getting my water in and Coffee has been a crutch this week. So I have to kick that again. Anyways any suggestions would help. Thanks everyone.

Welcome Back Butterfly! We need all the support we can get. I started a medically supervised liquid diet today. 4-protein shakes-800cals no more than 50 carbs a day lots of water.....divide your weight by 2.....that is the number of ozs you need to drink a day you can use half a cup of yogurt or low fat milk in the shake or half a cup of fruit. 20 min of exercise a day....no weights....not good to use too many calories when the calorie intake is low I can eat a green salad with 4oz of turkey or chicken once in awhile This is my first day. I won't lie.....I am not hungry, but I have a headache. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better. She said that I shouldn't be hungry after 3 days. Okay, you know what I know. I just saved you 300 bucks a month. lol

Ralphs/Kroger sell a brand called CarbMaster. Really low in sugar and good taste if you don't get too wild with flavors (I don't like super sweet yogurt, so carrot cake yogurt is just a big old no).

I had my surgery 01/24/2012. I still find ways to eat my greens. I love chicken and have not had any fried foods since my surgery and don't plan to at the moment. I have not had any sweets either and I love sweets. I love seafood and I eat the cooked shrimp from Walmart in the frozen food section as it has 20 gms of protein. I eat Greek yogurt every day, it has 10-15 gms of protein. I don't think I was getting enough protein so I have a shake first thing in the morning and in the evening also. I still cannot eat alot. My husband LOVES for us to cook together and eat together. He is having a hard time with my eating and he is concerned. (I'm starting to think he likes thick women). My hair used to be very thick but due to medications before my surgery, my hair has thinned very much. I'm taking 5000 mcg of Biotin daily to prevent further loss. I hope it grows back. I bought 2 wigs over the weekend because it looks like I'm balding in spots. I hope this topic continues with also perhaps older African American women also.

Guess that sums up that lil stitch pain I feel off and on that's nagging me. Yesterday was challenging I felt hungry a lot. Everyday I learn something new with this. I did try to sleep in my bed 2 nights but lastnight it just wasn't working out. Back to the recliner I went lol.

MsPris, congrats on getting the date moved up. WOW, only 4 more days for you. You can get unflavored protein powder just like the vanilla and chocolate, but you use it in your puddings, yogurt, soups, cottae cheese, anything you want really. I bought the Jay Robbs at a local store but you can find it on line also at Jayrobbs.com. If you google unflavored protein powder, you'll find hundreds of manufactures. I've been told to get the Whey isolate powder as it's the purest and something about the way your body absorbs it (or doesn't) but it's supposed to be the best for after surgeries like this according to my Dr. If you use this in your snacks and meals, it help you have that full feeling longer. mommamiranda, does Mexico have the hurrican season like the Carribean?? I've never been there so I don't know.

Hi, Cherea, Glad to hear you are doing so well. I am so excited for next week to come! I just went out to Albertson's & got a pack of RubberMaid 4 oz containers with lids. I'm going to make up some broth, etc. ahead of time & have them in the freezer ready to heat up. I also bought 20 small Fat Free Yogurts. I'm getting ready!! Breadlady is still among the missing. Very strange since she wa posting every day even while she was at the lake. Hope all is well. Dini hasn't been on since last night, I don't think. We're leaving in the morning for three days in Canada & I'm really going to miss my new favorite website and all of you!! :canada:

Salsa - Your restriction is better than mine and i think i have pretty good restriction- i think i am at my sweet spot - i would not want to be any tighter than i am. here is my menu for the day breakfast - 1/3 cup egg beaters w/cheese = 90 c - 10 pt Lunch - cabbage bell pepper onion pork rice (one pot wonder) 250 c - 10 pt (1 cup food am full) Clear Protein Drink - 70 c - 15 pt Dinner - 4 oz 0Fish - 1/2 cup veggies - 1/4 cup brown rice= 280 c = 25 pt ( i will be stuffed on this dinner) Snack - yogurt 5 gr pt - or pudding 2 grms pt - or fudgecicle 3 grms calories for snack 60 to 80 so thats about 1030 caloires for the day and about 65 grms pt. My doc says to try to eat HIGH protein food the very first thing so that by night time you can get some carbs & veggies 1 oz meat = 7 grms of protein.. Instead of an egg for breakfast - how about a Protein shake - that has 20 grms of pt or egg beater which has 1/3 the calories of a real egg and just as much protein... heck add some veggies to make an omlette - I love my veggies and i eat zuchinnee & yellow crooked neck squash almost every night (very low in calories) - cook them really well and it's like eating Soup - try that. I really don't count the calories from my veggies - i just add 50 c for veggies weither i have one or two cups... to me veggies are free - see i am a ww girl ;0) You are doing great !!!!!

So the opera is a no go. Good thing my dad didn't come over because we have gotten almost 8 inches of snow in the last 4 hours. Fortunately for him, they cancelled the show and he will get his money back. We did find another opera that is about an hour from where he lives that we are going to go to in March. It all worked out. I am just excited that he was going to make the effort to come over here. The opera (Barber of Seville) is special to us because we used to conduct to it when I was very little (like 2-3 y.o.). He moved out when I was 4 and pretty much stopped having contact with me until 5 or 6 years ago. It was a combination of him not having good parenting skills (his parents were abusive), my mom not wanting him in my life and his wife being well... herself. But when my grandma died we decided that we were both adults and that we should try and get to know each other. We don't talk very often, but I do see him almost everytime I go back to visit my brother and my doctor. I still am a little hesitant to get too close. Abandonment issues! Janet I was thinking about you last night when we went out to dinner. I was able to order a side of chicken breast and could eat without pain:lol::wink2:. I am still pretty tight in the morning though. Yogurt has become my new breakfast food and even then I can feel pressure. I have decided that for me the band allows me to stay fuller longer, but that I don't use it to help me control my portions. I put 1 cup of food (sometimes less) in front of me and that is all that I eat. The band has rarely helped me stop eating, but does allow me to only eat 3-4 times per day. I think that is why I hate being so tight. I didn't mentally feel like it was enough to eat so the head hunger was almost unbearable. My brain has been trained now to know that it can only have 1 cup of food, so anything more than that actually makes me a little nervous. I think to myself (and sometimes say outloud!) "How does anyone expect me to eat all of that food!" Well I just got home from the gym and haven't had a whole lot to eat today so I am feeling a little fatigued. Off to get some food. Chat later.

Good Morning Gang Thought I would post EARLY but see Karla has beat me :0) Ruby as to your struggles - hugs -- You need to get back to the basic - Go back to the beginning - I know it's hard after you have lost your motivation - but I think doing that - Logging calories (you were good at that) and following a healthy eating plan and not allowing so many treats - that's what gets us all the time .... Remember food is our drug of choice - plan and simple - I was talking to a lady last night from back east she's getting banded 6/17 - and I told her clean out your kitchen - get all your trigger foods out of the house - you would not leave a bottle of booze on the kitchen counter if you were an alcoholic so why would you leave a bag of cookies (or whatever) in the pantry. You explain this to your family and they should understand.. We have no control when it comes to food. I know that you get plenty of exercise cuz you walk and don't drive - but are you still doing your gym and karate (or what ever it was like that) Oh ya - Ruby met Karla (cremark) Karla meet Ruby - She is one of our Original #7 - maybe cuz we were talking about how many pple have left she came back - Ruby, Karla is a friend of Steph and was just banded and cuz Steph loves us so much asked her to join us.. Karla - My doc is tough after a fill its 7 days liquids - 7 days mushies - 7 days soft then back to regular food - I pretty much did that the 1st fill but the 2nd fill I didn't - I did like 2 days liquids then mushies then soft then regular.. 1st fill felt right away remember eating yogurt and almost pbing - but that fill seemed to dissappear within 2 weeks so I called and made another appointment - then my 2nd fill took about 2 weeks to finally settle in. Kari - My friend who's getting banded next month has knee issues - I told her that you just biked - she asked what kind of bike do you have regular or recumbent?? I didn't remember.. I think I am going to invite her to join our thread Karri - Did you get some sleep - I saw on FB that you realized that you aren't super human and needed some rest - did you get it?? Denise - How goes the battle.... Phyl - How's the knee doing - how long with DD be gone on vacation - is this the one with the little kids (thomas) so far I remember Tracy has the 2 older ones (Adam & Alisha) Steph - How's the back doing... Candice - When to you leave for France !!! Ok gang it's 5:30 - I can't beleive how fast time goes when you are on the computer !!! Gotta jump in the shower... Talk to you all when I get to work...

Chim, Isn't it strange how some of us aren't hungry and some are??? I don't get it, exact same surgeries, but completely different results early on! I guess it will level out, but just amazes me! Don't feel bad about the ice cream ... that's a little thing ... I had yogurt one night last week and it was divine!!! LOL Sure made me feel better, lol!
  23. What's CRS? I love Greek yogurt! It's much thicker and therefore more filling, and it's so low calorie! Did you have the plain kind, or the kind with fruit? I like the plain kind with a teaspoon of low sugar Strawberry jam mixed into it. Also, a way to make extra thick and yummy protein shakes is to mix milk with protein powder and about 4oz of plain greek yogurt, blend it in a blender with some ice.

Any May 20th surgeries out there?

I tried some tomato soup with non flavored protein mixed in and my stomach loved that. By loved that I mean it stopped gurgling lol. Actually felt like something was in there. Tomorrow I'm gonna try some other strained soups and try to get protein in. I've been handling skim milk well, so I may be able to try some plain yogurt-we'll see how dairy goes. Cross your fingers! Tonight my parents had a cook out-juicy burgers and hotdogs on the grill. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong my head hunger was in full swing, but the smell was delicious and it made my mouth water...but I wasn't actually hungry for it. I ate soup and protein instead lol. Good luck on your next phase and your recovery!
