Ive started my training for the Triathlon. Feels good to have a focus. Weight loss stalled. Haven't lost for the last week. I think it is because it has been hot here and I have been reaching for the juice. To many calories. I've been tired lately too. Perhaps because of the increased exercise. I think I will be hitting the pillow early tonight. TTFN
  2. First off, if you are still on pain meds, you won't be able to drive. I had my surgery on Wednesday, home on Friday, (although the doc told me I could leave Thursday if I wanted). My surgeon kept me out of work a minimum of two weeks. I am an accountant, so nothing strenuous. He said he prefers people stay out 3 weeks just to get used to the new way of eating. Also, I was having a difficult time getting enough fluids. My daughter is getting married next weekend and I'm returning to work after that.
  3. Yes, I was sick for 2 weeks. I even ran to Urgent Care, and my doctor was sure I had Montezuma's Revenge from the noises coming out of my belly. She tested me for every known bug, but I was fine. I was like that for 2 weeks with horrible "bathroom" issues. Horrible. Sunta, you had really bad vibes about surgery, so maybe you're just a little psychic! So far, your experience sounds just like mine, which was gross and miserable. I was a slowbie-newbie when it came to getting better, but I started feeling normal after 2 weeks.
  4. Take your pain meds on schedule. I tried to not take them, but by day 3 post op I felt like total crap and taking my meds throughout the next 2 days really helped. Trust us...you will feel back to normal in about a week. Take care.

    Internal flush/cleanser??

Here's my experience and opinion: DO NOT BUY via internet advertising. I did it for one that touted Oprah's endorsement. It's a scam. They charge your credit card lots of $$ even though it's a "free trial". Getting your $$ back takes a lot of time and frustration. Some of these same products are sold at health food and Vitamin stores. Also, I did try it for one week. Made absolutly no difference. Save yourself time and frustration!

Newbie here, full of questions :)

I had plication with Dr. Ortiz in August of last year. I am currently down 75 lbs. with about 30 more to go. I never vomited but was close a couple times. They do send you home with anti-nausea meds. They do get busy so if you have a date in mind you should set it soon. As far as the financing part , I just saw on BP that they are offering great deals through the website on surgery in Mexico. Looking at the costs, it would save you about$3,000.00 but you have to choose another surgeon at Jerusalem Hospital. He is top-rated though, so check that out before you commit to Ortiz. I personally was not impressed with him or the staff (Ortiz), but I didn't receive horrible care either. However, I did have complications at 2 months out. (Read my other posts if you are interested) I have no idea about the financing part. As far as your job goes, I needed about a month to be 100 percent, but went back to work at 2 weeks and had no problems, other than desperately needing a nap when I got home! It was so worth it for me, I know I would have been at my highest weight or even higher right now had I not had the procedure done. Good luck with your decision!
  7. Today was my first official Wednesday home weigh-in since revisiting my surgeon's office. My weekly goal is to lose two pounds each week. I identified my starting weight as 242; this week, I'm down six pounds and the scale is rewarding me with a weight of 236.4. Ordinarily, I would be ecstatic about a six-pound loss. However, I plan on keeping my excitement in check until I'm at or below my last known weight in January 2007 (224lbs) before I started slowly putting the weight back on. The thing is, I've been in the game long enough to know that you always have to ask yourself, "Six pounds of what -- water, fat or muscle?" I can't answer that question, but I can I do my part to work with my band and not against my band. So, I ensured that I drank at least the recommended amount of water and switched to Propel when I got tired of water, exercised at the gym, which included using the elliptical for 45 minutes to 1 hour and performing my standard series of weight training exercises, stuck very closely to the prescribed eating order of protein, vegetables and fruit, skipped meals when I wasn't hungry and last, but not least -- journaled to ensure a written record of my journey.

    Weigh-In: Wednesday, February 6, 2008

It's a little past 4:00 a.m. my time. I couldn't sleep, so I decided to get up and take my official Wednesday weight, which was 234.4. I actually peeked at 233 this week, but I ruined getting solidly to that number or past that number by eating too many carbs. After I pigged out on all the carbs at the end of January, I had a party challenge on Saturday, February 2nd. We had some neighbors from the old neighborhood bring their family over for dinner. We decided to prepare fajitas for the main portion of the meal, but I also made snacks to tide us over for the meal and to ensure that there were leftovers for at least Sunday's dinner. I wasn't disgusted with myself after the party. I had a small meal of brisket and beans earlier in the day. So, that held me pretty well. At the party, I tasted all the snacks I made and after I fixed everyone a quesadilla who wanted one, I made myself a very small plate of fajitas and beans. If I had to admit to going overboard on anything, it was probably the corn chips with guacamole and one to many oatmeal cookies. Other than that I did fine. Although I didn't enjoy a six-pound loss like I did the first week, I kept up with my exercises and ate decently for the other days of the week and still had the projected two-pound loss. I must lose 10 more pounds before I will reach my first major goal of 224, which was the lowest weight I remember reaching before I regained it all. I think I will make some homemade chili. I ate chili from Red Robin the first week and did pretty well. So, with homemade chili, I'm hoping to do even better.
  9. Delayed fills are completely normal. They happen for several reasons: when the fluid is put in it pushes fluid from the tubing into the band, and it takes a bit of time for that to distribute equally around the band when fluid is put it it applies pressure to the stomach - even if it's just a tiny fill - and that causes a slight inflammatory reaction that builds as the body reacts placebo effect - you expect to feel a fill, you don't feel it immediately, you subconsciously eat a little less to see if it helps, it doesn't so you go back to eating normal but oops the fill really did take so you feel tighter a week or more later The last sounds ridiculous but it happens. Your body will react to how you feel. Just know that each fill does impact you - even if only a tiny bit - and when you're talking about a hole the size of a dime, that tiny bit can be a lot.

    Just not interested!

I was sleeved on the 14th Jan this year, first 2 weeks fabulous no complaints, then week 3 got really sick, surgeon ran blood tests found out i was in acute renal failure, due to my bp meds and reflux med causing a toxic reaction through my body, if it was left a couple more days would have been on dialysis for 6 months. Then the nauseastarted, no med tablet would make it subside so dealing with that for the next month. All this time dealing with chronic reflux ( 5 different meds and nothing worked), all of which also gave me diarrhea and bad abdominal pains, still suffering some reflux...something i never dealt with before. Not sleeping well at night is also contributing but have no idea why every morning i wake up feeling ill.In regards to hydration i have no choice but to drink all day as my kidneys still haven't recovered and after my last blood test the surgeons said they were worst than first thought, take my multi every day and try and get my protein in - now all is revealed why i am so unhappy....
  11. All of a sudden I'm having cramps on right side just below ribs. No new foods or anything. Anyone else experience this type of thing? My wife wants me to go to the ER but its not that bad, just uncomfortable.

    Lap-Band isn't working for me

I am surprised they did the lapband on you with all those issues. I had my band 9 years. After six years and I was down to 169 one day I just started vomiting and it continued for the next three years. The hospital that I worked for paid nothing for the lapband so I was either gonna have to pay 25,000 dollars or keep it. Well fast forward they finally paid to have it removed if I converted to another surgery. I was sleeved a week ago and this week I have spent wondering why I did this to myself. I don't know in time that it will be worth it. I feel I just mutilated my body again and I have lost 20lbs in the past week but what we do to be thin just worries me. If I could have had my band removed with no other surgery and have been able to eat real food I think I could have done it on my own. I feel like I was forced to get the sleeve just to get rid of my band.
  14. I am a little over 3 weeks post op and should be starting on soft foods. But for a few days I feel like I've been cheating. About 3 days ago I went to a chinese restaurant and had some egg drop soup and tea. But I gave in and had 3 pieces of shrimp. I chewed well but I totally cheated and had sips of water after wards :cursing: I felt like a failure. And this morning I had the inside of a "breakfast burrito" (scrambled egg, cheese, tomatoes and onions) I chewed fairly well but I think I'm sabatoging myself. I feel like I have healed wonderfully but I constantly think my band has slipped but I know it wouldn't right? Its either it will slip or I'm just over reacting. I'm really dedicated in this band but I felt horrible when I ate the food. I couldn't help it.

    Am I Alone!?!?!

During the first two weeks post op I would have vivid food dreams that I ate a giant meal and then suddenly realized I should not have done that. I would be so relieved to wake up and realize it was only a dream. Once I got to the soft food phase, not only did I never have those dreams again, but I am amazed at how little desire I have for food. I eat because I know I need the nutrition, but I really have zero interest in most foods. I used to marvel at people who viewed food that way and always longed to be that person. I had read so much about head hunger and that you still have to battle your old eating habbits etc, so I was afraid that my emotional eating would follow me for life. NOPE! I hope that doesn't change!

    harder than i thought....

I totally regretted it the first month. I had a harder time emotionally and I was very scared b/c I think I was in shock at what I'd done/how much of a change it was. So you just have to know you can't go get your tummy out of the trash (I thought a lot about that). So instead just be very nice to yourself and very patient and take it a day at a time, or warm green tea at a time. I boiled a LOT of chickens in filtered Water with a little celery/onion and very little salt and was more comfortable with that broth than the powder broth. I remember I was cold a lot and I kept a heating pad in the bed near me and that helped me be comfy all night. I didn't have the spasms, I guess everyone is different. I was very cold, cold feet without food in my body I guess. So for me it was definitely the warm broth that got me through and a little cottage cheese here and there. When I was ready to get off of that it came natural. Just don't try to do everything everyone says but try to think what your body wants. It might change from day to day for a while. I cried too - one day I cried a LOT it was about a week out. Then on and off for a few days. I just kinda let it rip. My husband is still a little freaky about that part he got really scared when I was crying, truly mourning the loss of my fatty stomach parts. But I survived and eventually the positive changes started outweighing the fear and doubt. I wouldn't say I'm thriving at 2 mos. out b/c i am more tired than I want to be at times. But I do feel better now than I did BEFORE the surgery. And I look a lot better I think.

    harder than i thought....

I'm 2 weeks out today, and have been problem free except on days 9 - 11. I too was having stomach spasms/cramps anytime I drank anything. They have since stopped, and I think it's because I started taking my Reglan prescription that I should have been taking since surgery, but wasn't. Maybe you could ask your doctor for Reglan to see if it would help? I was given a 2 week supply to take 3x's a day when I left the hospital, but I thought it was for nausea, which I didn't have, so I didn't take it. After researching, I found that Reglan helps the stomach empty faster. Anyway, I'm not 100% sure if that's what made the spasms go away, but it might be worth a shot. I feel really bad for you, I totally know what you are going through. Good luck.

    harder than i thought....

The first couple of weeks are definitely the most difficult. My surgeon didn't even have me focus on Protein the first 2 weeks. His main concern is hydration. Try something different in your tummy, SF popsicles were a lifesaver, and those Fruit bars made with Splenda by Edy's are super yummy. chicken broth, Vitamin or sobe life Water are good options too. If you have to, get some Gatorade, and try all different temperatures on your Fluid. Room temperature still works best for me on most days. I still use warm fluids to relax my stomach. Hang in there, it does get better I promise. Also, your hormones are gonna go kind of wackadoo, and you'll feel a lot of different emotions. We're here for you, lean on us, and stay strong.

    How many calories???

Hi, fellow sleevers!! I just had a quick question! I'm 6 weeks post op and was wondering how many calories I should be taking in at this point? I'm getting anywhere from 800 to 1000 calories a day....is that good? Is it too much? I just didn't get much direction on calories....just that I should get a minimum of 60g of Protein a day from my dr's office. Thanks a bunch!!!

WOW thats awesome you have lost 39 lbs! We were banded on the same day and I am stuck at 22 lbs! i'm going in for my month (plus a week) follow up today and going to ask if I can have a fill. I feel like i didn't even have surgery. I do feel fuller quicker but thats about it. i'm nervous about seeing the doctor today b/c i feel like I should of lost more. oh well- still motivated and i know this can work.
  21. Every doctor is different. Please contact your surgeon or nutritionist. It's always best to err on the side of the caution. I was on clears for over a week, 4 weeks worth of full liquids, then mushy food a week, soft food a week then solids. Even at the solids I was barely eating. The slower you go the better you heal. Your stomach is cut from the bottom to the top. Eating bread, crackers, potatoes and rice are carbohydrates. All doctors will agree a lifestyle change is for the best as this isn't a diet. Some doctor's will say eat in moderation. Some people will drink soda, beer or coffee again, mine says never to drink them. Each doctor is different and has different rules etc. Your best bet in my honest opinion is to give yourself 7 weeks to have your stomach heal completely before introducing food that you know you should not have. We've all been on diets, it has taken us to the hardest route of all, that is to have a major surgery. If you take it seriously, you will know what you really should and could have. I waited almost 3 months and started to drink real coffee in the morning. Even after all these months, I can still feel that it really isn't that good for me, I didn't suffer without it, and it's not doing anything for me, I know it's something I should not have though and am staring at it right now. It's now up to me to decide do I drink it or not. I believe that I am going to quit drinking it. All it takes is one day eating chips & crackers. Then the next time it gets easier, then the next time it's a little of this and that and then old habits come creeping back over time. Make it a lifestyle change and you can't go wrong. Best of luck to you.
  22. I think that would have been rough for me as well. Just getting through the airport and making my way to the truck had me pooped. I wasn't sleepy as I had plenty of rest at the recovery house for 4 days, your body at that time is running on vapors. You haven't eaten anything real for a week counting the pre-op liquid diet. I know it sounds nice and relaxing, but I think it would not be all that enjoyable, especially the price you pay for admission. Maybe you could rent a motorized wheel chair to motor around the park. You could mix in some walking, but still have the chair for the majority of the transportation issues. Bill

    Looking for advice

Every Dr.'s plan is a little different. I was Clear Liquids for 3 days post op, then heavier liquids for 4 days to finish out 1 week. Then mushies for 2 weeks, and solids after that.
