Women Only: Time of the month

I haven't so not sure I can help. Are you getting all your water in? I was told years ago that especially the week or two before the visitor to load up on water....makes the process a little less painful?!?!?! December 2005 I had endometrial ablation, sure that's spelled wrong!!....had really heavy periods and that procedure really helped with the cramping and the volume. Would recommend it to anyone and everyone!!!

Women Only: Time of the month

I'm glad someone asked this question. I was banded 3/14 and just started my first monthly on Thursday and have felt awful. I had severe cramps and have felt so tired. Does it get better with time???
  4. Anyone else gain weight for the first 2-3 days postop? I am thinking it is water retention. Is this common? Was 282 day of surgery Tues today Thurs I am 286. I know i shouldn't be stepping on the scale, but it is impossible not to be curioous.
  5. I've read numerous posts on here about people becoming lactose intolerant after surgery, but my question is- could the opposite happen? I used to not be able to tolerate dairy (didn't stop me from eating it though). I'm almost 3 months post op, and dairy- especially cheese-leaves me bound up for days. Definitely a new experience for me, anyone else run into a similar situation?
  6. I know there are a TON of posts like this but....I wanted to make mine a little different. I'm trying to pick things up every once in a while so I'm not left with this huge shopping trip right before surgery. First, I'm required to do a 2 week low carb high Protein diet. 2 meals a day and 2/3 shakes a day (sorry can't remember if it's 3 or not). If you did a diet like this, what did you actually eat compared to what you bought to eat? Also, the day before surgery I have to drink two bottles of Isopure. What are your favorite and least favorite flavors? Third. What did you REALLY need at the hospital? I'm an over packer and I don't want to bring much of anything haha. That's my goal anyway. Last but not least. Post op diet for the first few weeks. What did you try? What did you like, what don't you like now? Things I should try? I'm going to try really hard not to buy anything that got me to where I am now. I've seen some lists and I'm super surprised at some of the items that were consumed and (I assume) were doctor approved. The goal is as clean as I can be during the soft stage. Thank you for any responses!

OH MY GOSH i'm so sore!

I had shoulder pain off and on for about three weeks, but the gas was minimal. Maybe because I walked a mile the day after surgery and one to two miles every day since. I have read so many different experiences, that it is hard to tell someone what to expect. Hope it gets better soon. Have a great weekend~~~
  9. Thank you Daisy Mae for your story. Congrats on the weight loss. You've done awsome. I have my LB tomorrow. I cheated yesterday a little. My Dr put me on no carb for 2 weeks. Told me I could cheat a little but not to overdo it. So all together cheated 2 times. On my daughter's b-day and yesterday. I think if everyone is honest probably most of us has cheated on pre-op diet. Keep up the great job!
  10. Thanks for sharing your story. Did the doctor want you to do 6 weeks of the liquid diet before surgery, or is that something you decided to do on your own to jumpstart the weight loss?
  11. IT'S BAD TO SAY, but me have bronchitis two weeks before surgery was actually helped me to be PRETTY RIGID with the PRE-OP DIET. However, I did cheat a few times. Bad example, huh?
  12. To answer the question above, my doctor required that I lose 10% of my body weight prior to surgery - he requires that of all of his patients. For me, that was 28.5 lbs. I wanted to get the surgery as fast as possible so I did the most strict version of his pre-op diet in order to shed pounds fast and get my surgery scheduled. The options he gave me were to have three slim-fasts a day plus all the vegetables I wanted or to have an extremely strict diet of plain chicken or fish, vegetables, nonfat dairy and a fruit a day. Everybody is different but for me, it was easier to just not deal with food and to stick to the slim-fast diet (I ate a few vegetables but not many - I drank either three or four slim-fasts a day and then every three or four days I'd have a very small regular meal). My doctor told me that very quick weight loss - preferably from a mostly liquid diet - would get the liver to shed fat the fastest and make the surgery easier and safer. When I went in for a pre-surgery weight check, I had lost so much weight so quickly that he moved my surgery up two weeks. I hadn't quite lost all of the 10% of my total weight he had originally told me but he said since I'd lost it so quickly and stuck to mainly liquids that he'd go ahead and operate earlier. So that's why I had six weeks of liquids. For me - and everyone is different - it was too difficult to stick to the strict diet. It was easier for me to stick to the liquids. And I wanted to surgery to happen as quickly as possible. I'm self-pay so I didn't have to wait for insurance approval.
  13. So good of you to share your experience! I'm getting banded on Thursday (just 3 more days) and I'm excited but because of the unknown, a little apprehensive too. Your story really helped me and thanks so much for sharing!
  14. wow I haven't read your whole post yet but I am very impressed with how long you could do the liquid diet before surgery! Way to go you have great discipline!! I am worried about 2 weeks for me.

    Tomorrow is the Big DAY

Well I am back home and everything went well. I was so well taken care of it was unbelieveable. Between my husband and the hospital staff it was an amazing experience. I am on full liquids until I see my doctor in two weeks. Thanks for all the good wishes they really did help a lot. Continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Nooooo pre op diet her e

Same here...I start my 2 week liquid diet on 7/3. I feel okay about it. Makes sense to prepare your head for it a little bit better for the long haul. Good luck to everyone!

    Depressed

I think the first month is toughest because you just want to eat something your not suppose to. I do know about this I stepped up my exercise game. It's the whole endorphins bit. It made me feel better and get through those last couple of weeks to eating regular. If you go to gatherings I eat before I go. I try to stay away from the main eating areas and sip my water. If it's something I can eat I make a plate and nibble until I'm full. I kind of just move the food around my plate do it looks like I ate. You have come so far, focus on the goal. You can do it!!
  18. I used Chantix 3 years ago to quit smoking... worked amazingly well! You take it for a week and keep smoking, then you quit smoking. I was fine! No cravings or anything like before... I did have habbit moments- in the car on a long car trip, sitting on the porch, after a meal... times I usually smoked I felt like I should be but it wasn't that I needed it. I actually stopped taking it after about 4 weeks because I just kept forgetting to take it (as I hadn't smoked in weeks it wasn't on my mind) and I still haven't smoked since. Side effects that were a pain... VERY nauseous on it. I never got sick but I would spend a good hour after each pill thinking I was about to. Strange dreams. Very vivid. Very odd and disturbing, not nightmares, but dreams that make you nervous and make you think there's something wrong with you. But a few weeks of that was worth it to not smoke anymore!!! Also glad to not smoke since it's about $10 a pack in NY now!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck! You'll do great

Hi -- I am allergic to any type of seafood so of course fish oil scares me to death! I found a gummy omega 3 vitamin in my grocery store. It tastes great.

    January 5th.

I got a date of January 5th too, but the lady at the hospital told me she is gonna call next week or by the 29th with a definite time. So when she calls back with a time that's when I start my diet. It's so real right now!!!!

    Chest Pain (Surgery Today)

Recliner and lots of pillows if you want to lay in bed. It feels better to be propped up.. An whenever you feel a lot if pressure get and and walk or even reposition yourself. That's helped me alot. I am 3 days out and last night I was finally able to sleep on my side with a body pillow.. Good luck and it does get better!! ... So I hear!!
  22. Well I guess this makes me 3 days post op. I'm doing well. The pain meds are helping. I'm getting in liquids just not as much as the doc wants. Yesterday I had about 24oz and the doc wants 48oz of clear liquids. I'm urinating more than 3 times a day so I figure I'm hydrated. It's really weird that I can physically feel how small my stomach is now. I'm stuck in my recliner and really want my bed. I'm able to walk around the house several times a day. I think I'm doing ok but I just wish I could sleep in my own bed. Last night I slept longer than any other time since the surgery. Just wanted to give my update.
  23. My surgery is Monday 11/2. I stopped my NSAID meds a few weeks ago. It was hard at first but got better with time. I guess I've been shopping more too. I guess if I don't have food to comfort me I must be self-soothing by shopping. I better watch that in the future.

    complications???

I had bad nausea for a week, starting about 4 days after surgery. Has your nausea and pain gone away yet? If not, definitely call your doc. Be sure to mention the sharp ab pain. Can you keep water down?
  25. Good morning, I am one moth and a week post op, I lost 28lbs so far and I am to stuck, I haven't lost an ounce since June 21st, I was told my body was in shock and went into starvation mode, I've been eating more solid foods now and still nothing, also started walking 3 to 3.5 miles a day. I'm scared because I had the band for over four years and it was a complete failure. I too had my surgery out of the country not in Mexico though, and also ran out of the diets the gave me.
