    September 2022 surgery buddies

Yup. I’m having tons of tuna and chicken. About 80-90g of protein a day. Taking vitamins but still exhausted. I was cleared to work out starting this week so maybe that will boost up my energy.
  2. So I had the surgery almost 6 weeks ago, I've lost about 35 pounds since the surgery but I've noticed something about how food works with my body. Every time I try to eat meat I end up throwing it up and it doesn't matter what type. I've had chicken, fish, pork (ham but not a lot like.. a bite cuz I got sick like instantly after I tried it) even beef and turkey. No matter what meat I try I get so sick even eggs aren't safe. Has anyone else had this happen to you? It's driving me crazy because everyone else seems to be fine but I can't even keep it down not to mention when I do manage to I can't drink water for hours after without throwing up the water too. Is that something other people have experienced or is it just me lol.

    Nerves

Ok, I'm the rare weirdo that was absolutely not worried about anything. I was so excited and so ready that there was no room for nerves. When I got to the hospital that day, my surgeon said they could give me something for my nerves if I needed it and he was shocked that I didn't lol I was laughing and chatting and just ready. I haven't regretted it at all. I'm 5 1/2 months out, and I will say the week before and 2 weeks after the surgery were the hardest. Week before because of the liquid diet and 2 weeks after because my stomach was ultra sensitive and I had a lot of pain at my incisions. Week 3 was better, and by week 4 I was completely fine. There will be some pain, and you will absolutely have to relearn how to properly eat and drink. But I promise you, this will absolutely improve your life so much if you follow the plan and put in the work. It's a very useful tool.

    Nerves

Please don’t worry, I had mine last Monday. It’s the best thing I’ve done. Yes there is some pain and you are frightened , however it’s worth all of it. I’ve lost 2 stone in three weeks following the LRD diet and surgery. Good luck x
  5. I'm really ready for my hair to stop shedding!!! I'm doing all the things I'm supposed to, and I know it's normal and will eventually stop. But I really wish it would hurry up and get to it. I'm 5 1/2 months post op, and I started shedding around 3 months out, so I know I still have a ways to go. But OMG my hair just gets EVERYWHERE!!! Couch, bed, pillows, shower, floor, my clothes, EVERYWHERE. So, so annoying. My NP at the surgeon's office said I've lost so much weight in such a short amount of time that she's not surprised that I'm shedding like crazy. I know that, and I know it'll stop. But honestly, I'm shocked I'm not bald!!! Ugh....

    Swollen Stomach

This is another one of those it just depends because we’re all different. I can’t recall being swollen post surgery (it was a little while ago now) & wore the same waisted fitted pants home a couple of days later without issue. I do reminder feeling a little tenderness/sensitivity in the abdominal area for about a week. I used to roll my waistbands down to sit below my tummy not to put any pressure on the wounds. Same with tummy sleeping. I’m a side sleeper with a twist (so from about waist down I’m 3/4 on my tummy) & I was sleeping like that in hospital. But there are many who can only sleep on their backs for some time. Are you having issues with swelling? Are you swollen or bloated?

6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED

Hi there! Just sending you a bunch of support because I can imagine how frustrated you are. I've been stalled for 2.5 weeks - since week 2. Have lost 13lbs since surgery day and I'm about 4.5 weeks out and losing my mind. I knew to expect the stalls, but they are major mind f*cks when you feel like you are doing everything right. I hope you and your team of docs and dietician can find out what's going on and that weight loss starts back up soon. In the meantime, forget the scale and keep focus on your daily behaviors- sounds like you're doing well at that. My scale is in the back of my closet because I can't take the idea of this drastic effort not working. Here's to hoping for a big whoosh soon!
  8. Hi all! This is my first post! Just a question for you all. How long is your stomach swollen after surgery? For all of my “stomach sleepers” how long before you were able to lay on your stomach? (I’m in week 5, by the way!)

    Nerves

I guess just not waking up, any doubts or concerns about complications I looked up and informed myself before opting for surgery. Since I'm self paid everything is moving in terms of weeks, so currently worrying about having vitamins, containers, scheduling clearances and doing a trip I had schedule before the preop diet starts, which keeps the mind busy. October 2022 surgery support

I haven't gotten to the exercise part since I'm only on day 5 post op, other than walking. My surgeon wanted us walking 2 miles 4 to 5 times a week within 3 to 4 weeks post op. After the 4 week mark, I plan on going to the gym and meeting with a trainer to get a more personalized plan. Especially while healing. Another option might be YouTube workouts that are geared towards wls? I haven't looked yet, but I think I might tonight.

    October 2022 surgery support

Omg. That was me last night! Also day 4. I couldn't have protein drinks yet, but I had some broth and I guess it just hit my stomach funny. I told my husband that I birthed a child and died twice during the process (he was out of the house at the time). I was so sore after (from the completely INVOLUNTARY straining and cramping) that I had to take a pain pill and a Phenergan for the first time since surgery day. I had the mental breakdown today though. I'm struggling still with fluids. I could start protein drinks back today, but I can only take 2-3 sips and I feel full for like 2 hours. I'm never going to get my protein or fluids in at this rate. So I'm feeling defeated there. Then I cried when my husband brought home pizza with the kiddo. They have been super supportive, and I have sat at the table with them for a couple of days no problem. Tonight just got to me for some reason.

    Stall on loss

I am in the same boat with you. Dr said between weeks 3-5 it will stall out then pick back up. I’m 4 1/2 weeks post bypass and only lost 16 since surgery. I have lost inches and forgot to measure before I started my journey. But I did measure a week ago so I know going forward. I did take before pictures and current pictures and can tell a difference. That what I look at to keep me going so that I won’t worry about the scale. All this protein is helping to build muscle and it weighs more than fat.
  14. I'm not tall nor super active. I stayed around 800 to 900 calories to goal (about 6 to 7 months), been adding 100 calories every month or two till I get to maintenance. I lost 3 lbs. last month so I upped it another 100 at the beginning of this month. I calorie count (monthly average) and my diet consists of the required protein (mainly from seafood, legumes, soy, dairy) and then 6-7 servings of fruits/veg a day.
  15. I was advised to take them as soon as I got home (i.e., tue day after surgery). And yes, they made me nauseous…particularly the calcium pills, and the multivitamin to a lesser degree, but still quease-inducing. After a few weeks I switched to calcium chews, which where much better, and I dealt with the multivitamin as best i could (i tolerated them better when i had something in my stomach, but i ate very, very little the first month, so it was challenging. Around 2 months post, when i could stand to eat again, i would bury my multivitamin in a tbsp of greek yogurt and down it. That seemed to do the trick.
  16. Thanks! I definitely took the weight loss coming so easily in the first year for granted and did not do anything further when I stalled. I now see that others constantly worked at it and adjusted to succeed and that I need to show that same level of persistence/tenacity to get to where I want to be!
  17. Thanks so much for all the feedback everyone! It's super helpful. I know that I have not been making high enough caloric deficits so I am going to heed your advice and try to play this by ear/do some trial and error. I know now that my numbers were way off (too high!!) though. I think I will try to focus on 1000 calories max each day comprised of protein shakes, eggs, milk, salads with chicken, and lots of fruit this week and will see how it goes!

    Weight regain advise please

This is awesome advice, thank you! I think I do need to more dramatically cut my caloric intake for sure, as I am basically able to eat normal sized meals now. I've easily been eating 1800-2000 calories a day and not losing at 215 lbs. I think I am losing a bit now as I have been exercising a lot more now but even still, my progress has been quite slow. I am going to take your suggestion and try to do protein shakes for the next few days and see if that helps with my stall! Thank you!
  19. I did chewables the first 2 weeks. Started those the day I got home. At the 2 week mark, I started slowly taking regular pills and vitamins (spaced them all out through the day, with meals) and at the 4 week mark, I could take them at the start of my day, with breakfast, like normal.
  20. I have to be on a liquid diet for two weeks post op and then I will start my vitamin chews. I'm day 11 now, so after I see my dietician. I'll start them and on to the puried diet.

When did your program give you the OK to take vitamins?

Well. I had pre op blood work about 3 months prior to surgery, after the blood draw, I was told to begin Bariatric Fusion chewables, one in the morning and one at night. That's half of the normal post op bariatric dosing. In the beginning, they were gross and took a while to get used to and by the time surgery came around I was used to them and post op, I resumed them the day after I came home from the hospital and never had nausea. I feel like if I had never taken them pre op, and started them post op... there could've been some nausea and intolerance because they're not the most pleasant things to get used to. Just make sure to take them after a protein shake or food of some sort to prevent nausea the best you can. Best wishes!

    Food Before and After Photos

Y’all I made a vegan no bean chili after forgetting I had cans of it. The calories are for the whole big bowl of which I maybe ate 1/3. But then I looked at the can and yikes!
  23. Well unfortunately the sciatica issue returned and my surgeon said the injections were okay so I got them this time. They didn’t do anything for the pain, really though so I won’t be using them again anyways I don’t think. Unless they decrease the time it takes to recover or something which so far doesn’t seem to be the case. I’m only on day three though, and last time it took almost three weeks to go away entirely. I have an appointment with my family dr on Wednesday though and Intend to ask about pain management. I will ask about these alternative NSAIDS.
  24. I started taking them as soon as I got home from the hospital. The only one that bothered my stomach was my vitamin B complex capsule, but that was just temporary. A week or two later I was able to tolerate them.

    Weight regain advise please

I found out I was pregnant 5 months post op and after I had done a pouch reset period. I will say that I don’t believe the pouch reset actually resets the pouch, what it actually does it take you back to basics and allows you to re-harness good eating habits and reset your primary focus back to Protein. I was trying to get past the 200lb mark when I did it and it worked. It broke the stall and kept me on a downward motion. And now I’m pregnant. Good luck! You can do it!! I want to add, during the pouch reset and such, I was consuming less than 1,000 calories and ONLY focused on hitting those Protein goals. Aim for 60-80g Protein from low calorie liquid sources (to start) and you will have what you need in the short term. Now that I am pregnant, my nutritionist wants me eating 1500-1800 calories a day. I still focus on the protein first and then the calories.
