Update on the pressure: At my doctors visit, the nurse suspected I had experienced a stuck episode and it left some swelling. Since I was still able to eat and drink, and not in any distress, I did not get a fill or unfill but waited to see and within 2 days the pressure was gone. Earlier this week I received a fill, and definitely have noticed a different restriction. I have had 2 stuck episodes, just in the past 2 days, and I can relate it to the feeling of pressure I noticed and wrote about originally. I'm having to retrain myself how to eat, smaller bites especially. Hope this thread can help someone out there.

Is anyone here avid swimmers? It’s my go to exercise. I swim at least 4 times a week. I do it for the cardio and the strength training. Does anyone else use this as their principles exercise? I’ve noticed it’s helped tone so much! Really happy to be able to swim.

Hi all, I've been kind of lurking here for a little while now. My journey began Oct 2012. I did my seminar, and all of my labs, and required nutrition stuff, but my husband would not support my decision. Without his support, this would have been impossible for me because we have two small children. In March of 2013, my PCP put me on blood pressure medication. I again approached my husband about WLS, and he still wasn't supportive. He thought that I should be able to do it the "old fashioned" way, and that I would feel better about myself if I did..... Oh he who has never had to worry about his weight. My husband is one of those people that can loose weight by improving his sleeping habits... to be so lucky. In October of this year, my PCP had to start me on Metformin, I once again approached my husband about WLS. This time he agreed, but asked me to wait until after the holidays. My surgeons office submitted the paperwork to my insurance company, but the surgery was denied. I had to go thru the appeal process, which they also denied. In February of this year, my surgeons office was able to resubmit my pre approval, and I was approved. By this time, my DH thought that I had given up on the idea, and I had to fight with him about it all over again. Well he finally agreed, and my Gastric Bypass is scheduled for April 7th. I am currently on the pre-op liquid diet day 2. Day 1 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and I am coping with Day 2 pretty well so far. I'm so excited to finally be here, I don't care if I had to drink only Water for a week, I would find a way to make it work! Kim

Good for you to be sticking to your guns. I totally understand the frustration of not having someone's support. My own DH thought for the longest time that diet alone would help me, and had even dieted with me to show his support. But it doesn't last. After a week or two he figures time is up and he goes back to his old eating habits and so I do after a while as well. So happy for you, keep us posted with how things go!

Here's the thing. During my surgery we found out my uterine fibroid is significantly larger than we knew. I've been to a new gyno and he tells me my uterus is currently the size of a full term pregnancy and as I lose the weight I will look pregnant. (Which is so ridiculous at my nearly 48 years of age). We plan on a hysterectomy when the weight comes off and will have a tummy tuck at the same time. I'm really frustrated. I want to see my stomach shrink. I am one of those "apple" body types and all my weight is in the middle. I know, once I have the surgery, it will be a night and day difference, I just want those little victories along the way. Besides, this thing is giving me tremendous lower back pain. In addition, my husband and I have a huge 3 continent trip planned for November. I want to have the surgery by first week of August to give myself adequate time to recover. I feel a lot of pressure to get the weight of quickly and even though I've lost 36 pounds since my surgery two months ago, I'm not sure it will happen. So…..so do y'all have any words of wisdom? Thanks!

Goal after stall or gain? Share your 2nd ???? wind!
AvaFern replied to JustWatchMe's topic in The Lounge
I'm not sure if I count or not, however I stalled out badly at 167, where I was stuck for 2 months and then again at 134-137 where I was stuck from October until April of this year. I found in both situations I was being lazy and when I significantly improved my exercise and cleaned up my diet, I was able to drop again. A trick for me that some people don't approve of is eating clean Monday through Friday and then largely eating what I want to on Saturday and Sunday. If I want some cheesepuffs Sunday afternoon or some nacho dip Saturday night, I have it, and then I don't feel like I'm spending my entire life on this awful restricted diet. Because of my sleeve I really don't eat very much, but I'm now at a point where if I don't work out and I don't eat a relatively clean diet, there is no way I'm dropping any more weight. Also, I try to not freak out if I eat something that isn't perfect, whereas when I dieted before the sleeve if I ate something bad on a Wednesday, well the diet was shot until next Monday. Right now I'm munching my way through a grilled chicken sandwich, and it is darn yummy after the last 2 weeks of really being good on my diet. I won't have the need to eat until much later tonight and I don't feel like I'm on a diet when if I want something, I can have it, since I can no longer eat an entire serving, or an entire bag/pan/bowl of anything. -
Hello fellow "newbee"....I have been banded for 10 days now. And I can relate to you as far as what to eat....dont be nervous about that because I was too before my surgery. And it just comes to you. The first 2 or 3 days your not gonna want anything to "eat". So I have been eating or drinking I should say.....chicken broth (i dont like beef broth) sugerfree popcicles, sugarfree jello, lots of water or crystal light ice tea. I have had some hot tea with a teaspoon of honey. That was the first week. And stating the second week, I added liquid yogart, protein shake made with skim milk, tomato soup made with skim milk, and I been having a teaspoon of peanut butter. Kinda get it nice and wet in your mouth, if you can imagine "chewing" creamy peanut butter. Then starting my third week which is this coming weds. I am going to add cottage cheese, apple sauce, cream of wheat, mashed sweet potatoes...muchie foods. Really thoughtm dont be nervous, it all comes to you. And dont be afraid at all. I was operated on weds oct 24th and I was home and walking my local Mall 4 days later on Sunday!!!!! Good luck, TONI

Sounds like you are doing great. I wouldn't go back to your OB/GYN. He will never be supportive because "he" didn't tell you to have the surgery and "he" is the doctor. Some docs as we all know think they are "god". We need docs who are supportive! You have done well. My son is a Chiropractor and has me doing Vit. D drops in water or crystal light. I also sit in the sun everyday for 20 to 30 mins. I will be anxious to have my blood work done in two weeks. I feel great. My husband and I are going to start going to the Senior Citizen's Pool 3 times a week next week. Hope this will keep my muscles toned... It will be great to have to go shopping for clothes that are not size 2 or 3X. Be safe, Mary

New Here and so many questions!
Tori1983 replied to spoiltmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I Have United Health Care too. I went and saw Dr.Kim May 15th aprroved for sugery last week, liquid diet June 8th and Surgery June 29th. So, In just over a month I am getting everything done. I too am at 100%! My son has some issues and we usually have our max out of pocket/deductable met by march-april. So, I am paying nothing out of pocket except for my diet and post op meds. All fills and unfills are covered 100% I made the appt. They submited my paper work to the insurance and that week I heard back with my scheduled date. Good luck to you. -
Hey David!! I had my surgery a week ago at Vanderbilt! Good luck!!

hi need to slim, first I have to say this you have to do your pre-op for 5 WEEKS??? Holy moley!!! I have to do it for 2 and I have heard of some that just do it for a day and not even at all??? Wow, I am in shock. So anyway to get to your question. It all depends on the person, if your skin still has the elasticity still there it will go back better, but if you've stretched it out so much that you will have a lot, a lot??? Then I suggest doing weight training and exercise as much as you can, cause that will help with the skin tightening. Unfortunately no matter what we are all going to have saggy skin cause of the rapid pace at which the bypass helps you loose that weight. I am just thankful my insurance will allow me the skin removal surgery after the fact. So one day at a time though!!! Hi Tina1577 Thanks for the reply. I guessed id have to do LOTS of exercising... All though I have been a big person all my life I am pretty fit (by my thinking any ways lol)... Yeah in England you have to do the pre op for the amount of weeks before surgery dependent on your BMI. Im having mine done through the NHS. They will do skin removal later on if it is a matter of health, other wise ill have to find it my self . Yeap I agree one day at a time... Thanks

Dr. Fernando Garcia -- Sept. 19 Sleevers!
Victoria A Fillmore posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Is anyone going to be in TJ, Mexico on the 19th getting their sleeve? I am! Super excited. My parents are doing it as well, and I couldn't be any more happier than I am right now. Although I am a tad bit nervous--it's only two weeks away! I'm still waiting on my passport, and I'm hoping it comes in this week. Surgery buddies? -
Feeling down
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to Chez2812's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I believe that you're feeling down for no good reason. You seem to be living with some misconceptions about band surgery and what follows. You're also contradicting yourself, if I understand what you're writing. I hope I can help you get to a better place. The first weeks after surgery are about healing from it, not about losing weight. That you lost seven pounds in the first four (is that it?) weeks is quite nice. Lost weight is lost weight. Most people don't feel that "a lot" has changed in the early days. For most, getting the band adjusted to the point where it is a good, working partner takes at least a few adjustments. It may also involve adjusting to remove Fluid. The process is more an art than a science. I know one person who reached his goal and has maintained it for many years with an empty band and never one adjustment. He is quite the exception. Even when a band is at optimal fill, it can change, either suddenly needing more or less saline. I have no doubt that this sounds discouraging to you, but better to know it now than never. In fact, all band people should be aware of this, among other things, from the very first. You say that your appetite and eating pattern has changed. This tells you that the band has begun to pick up steam. A good thing. You last weighed on 13 July, so you don't know what further loss you may have had since the seven lbs. As you seem to feel little control over matters now, I suggest that you try to eat meals on a regular schedule. It's also important to use a food tracker and enter everything. My Fitness Pal is popular and people say it's easy to use. I use the tracker at sparkpeople.com, a large website dedicated to health, fitness, weight loss and the like. It also has a fitness tracker. The site doesn't espouse surgery for weight loss, but I find that no problem. There are "teams" of people who have had surgery. Livestrong.com is a similar site. The amount of saline in an adjustment or in a band is meaningless on its own. What matters is having the amount that will, again, make for a good partnership. You're in good shape. -
March 26th is the date for me!
kristireyna replied to sklemz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am March 25th. Now have a sinus infection so trying to get the antibiotics in before then. My husband and myself are doing it at the same time... surgery is the same day. We start our 2 week liquid diet Tuesday. ... not looking forward to it but it will be over before I know it. -
I have a friend that got her surgery two weeks ago today! She has been one of those that has been miserably starving. Today she was able to start her soft foods, and do she decided to have a scrambled egg. She's freaking out cause she made 3 eggs and ate them all, slowly, and never felt full until after the third egg. Our question is - how can she eat so much already and experience no pain? Can she stretch out her pouch so soon and on 3 eggs? What should she do to ensure she isn't starving all the time but not eat too much? Any suggestions on what to eat and how much? Is this normal? She's worried her pouch has failed and she will fail miserably! Please please help!! Thanks This how thing is so scary and my surgery is June 7, so I'm not able to answer her cause she started this journey first!!

Yes,I'd like to know the answer to that question too. How is it possible to eat three scrambled eggs when the pouch is supposed to be 2 ounces?

My Personal Countdown --- 90 Days And Counting...
Patienlywtng on my Curves posted a blog entry in PatientlyWtng's Blog
I know it may be a bit premature to start my countdown, but why not. These 3 months, 12 weeks, 90 days...etc., will be here before I know it. With my schedule, it will sneak up on me and I will be frantic trying to get everything accoplished within the last few days. My name is PatienlyWtng. I am going to excercise every bit of patience that I can. I have been purchasing what I think I need a little bit at a time. I'm now preparing for two out of town guests who will spend a week with me. Once I have all those plans squared away, I can return the focus on me. Oh and let's not forget, I still have work and school to factor in. So if starting a countdown will help me stay on track...then that is what I will do. Besides, this will be a permanent record of how sane I remained in all of this. I'm ready....for this ride to ExceLlynTLiving! Join me... -
So, I'm sitting in the ER while typing this because I apparently wasn't getting enough fluids and wound up with pretty bad dehydration. I woke up feeling extremely nauseated with a terrible headache (basically like I had an awful hangover) and when I tried to sip my Vitamin Water Zero, I couldn't keep it down. (This is the first time I've had trouble with vomiting since the bad reaction I had to the anaesthesia.) I called my surgeon and talked to his PA, who asked me to come in. So I went into the surgeon's office (which is just a block from the hospital) and after she examined me she asked me to go to the ER for fluids and labs. The labs came back and confirmed that my electrolytes were all over the place and something called my "anion gap" was too wide (like the rest of me - haha!) which apparently signifies extreme dehydration. I've gotten 2 IVs of fluids plus a banana bag and two different anti-nausea medications and am feeling loads better, so hoping they send me home soon!! Pretty annoyed with myself that I let this happen, though - I knew I wasn't getting enough fluids but because it's been so uncomfortable I just let it go and assumed I would be fine. Clearly I am not a doctor. Let this be a warning to everyone - drink your fluids, especially during your first few weeks! It's more important than hitting the protein and calories. I'm proof.

Has anyone here used Dr Pinson in Tupelo? I'm scheduled for initial app next week. Would like to hear from someone and hear their experience.

Anyone With Kaiser's Bariactric Program?
stillmeonlysmaller replied to Pounds Thou Art Loosed's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am with Northern California Kaiser and did not have to do any classes. I had to have my psych evaluation, and have other screenings complete like my female annual, and yearly physical. I did have to meet a pre-op weight loss goal before my surgery would be scheduled then a 2 week liver shrinking diet before surgery. I had my surgery in Fresno. -
I had issues swallowing even the tiniest sip of Water for the first few weeks post-op. I would go through this whole process where first I felt constriction in my esophagus, then there would be this gurgling coming all the way up into the back of my throat, and then I'd have to burp. The good news is, it seemed to just be a product of the swelling, so once that went down after a couple of weeks, it became much easier. The key is you still have to drink as much as you possibly can, no matter how unpleasant it is. You need to be sip, sip, sipping. Aim for an ounce of water every 15 minutes, so that's 1/2 cup per hour. I know how tough it is. I remember how miserable it was. But, it is SO IMPORTANT to stay hydrated so you don't end up back in the hospital. As for that dryness and burning in your throat, my guess is acid reflux. Did your surgeon prescribe a PPI?

I still feel weak. I drink my protein shakes and water and I still feel weak. I have no energy to do anything. I'm on puree diet and 8 still feel like this. Sometimes I wish I didn't do the surgery. I was active always on the go and now I'm a total different person. I hope things get better.
