    Am I blowing my chances???

Hello, Our stories are similar. I was sleeved about 6 weeks ago on 26 April and got very sick after and ended up back in the Emergency Room with pnuemonia. I have also had a slow recovery and have lost only 21 lbs since surgery. I am drinking 100 oz of Water and trying to get 100 g of Protein each day. I also swim 1 mile 4-5 days a week and I dont understand why the scale is not moving quicker. My doctor has said to keep calories below 600 and carbs under 40. Something I was not counting carbs/calories of until yesterday was the Vitamins and Calcium pills. I was surprised that each of them had 3 carbs each and I am taking several of them per day. So started yesterday counting those in my daily totals and will see if that makes a difference. Dont have any advice but I am in a similar situation as you. all the best!!

    Am I blowing my chances???

WOW, I guess everyone's bodies are truly different... a month or so ago I tried one week of calories 600 or less, Carbs under 35 and I kicked in more excersise. I lost .08 of a pound,.. not even a full pound in one week... I had several people on the forum and the nut at my doc office tell me that I goofed up by kicking in excersise and reducing my calories so low that my body went into "starvation" mode... I was not providing enough calories to keep my metobolism up.... I only tried it that one week, I had hoped I would see this 5-6 pound loss and was so extremely disapointed to not even lose one single pound... Ever since then, I have been around the 1200 - 1000 calorie mark, I keep my carbs under 50 and I am always consuming some kind of protien every 3 hours during the day,,, It is working great for me! Maybe you could talk to your nut again about too low of calories, you need fuel for your body to burn ... few calories is not giving you the fuel... Good Luck..

    My First Nsv.....and Second!

Thats so awesome!! I want to weigh less than my fiance too. I am about 3 pounds away from onderland and I am hitting another stall. He weighs 175 so I have a ways to go but I bet it feels so good to say that u weigh less. Congrats! Keep sheddin those pounds!
  4. Does anyone else use these? They are one of the only kinds of shakes I can tolerate. I am perpetually stalled though and started to wonder whether the shakes are an issue. I am staying between 600-800 calories per day, less than 50 carbs per day, exercising 4-5x per week. And I've only lost five pounds in the last 5 weeks. It's discouraging. So I am trying to reevaluate. Thoughts?
  5. There is a topic in this forum with lots of people responding about having no fill. Check it out...No Fills LBT I'm going to cut and paste my post in that topic..... I had surgery May 23rd and do not have a fill. I don't have a lot of restriction and I could eat as much as I wanted if I let myself. But if I stick to my right portions and follow the instructions, then I am not hungry in between meals, which is what I want. I eat 1100-1200 calories a day. I dont ever get "full", but I am satisfied. I've never been stuck, I've never thrown up. I saw my surgeon 2 weeks ago and together we decided on no fill because right now things seem to be working. I'm losing weight consistently and do not get hungry. That doesn't mean that sometimes I dont crave food or that I dont want to use food in the destructive ways I used to. I have "head hunger" all the time. It is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. But without the physical hunger, I am able to talk myself out of the mental stuff. I'm plan on getting a fill when one of 2 things happens... 1) I start getting physically hungry in between meals 2) If I start eating larger and larger amounts of food or start binging (had problems with binging for many, many years)

    day after surgery

Yes, this is the roughest part of your journey. It all gets better. Take time to heal and go slow I mean SLOW with everything, moving, turning, eating...... The first couple of days seem like forever. I look back and say OMG 9 months have gone by and it was so long ago. I needed two weeks to pamper myself and just get back into the swing of things. It is a major surgery whether you like it or not. Your body will react and all will be fine in a few days. Keep up with pain meds and walk around the house as much as you can. It really does help. Baby sips. Best wishes imaluckydog Oh ya I'm down 97 pounds and I am a new person in an old body!!!

Well I hope after this they will not give me the run around anymore. I thought about contacting obesitylaw.com I here they can help get it approved.Trish

    Tylenol

Tilly if you are only 3 weeks out from surgery I would continue to take the liquid. I would call your doctor to double check and make sure if you can take a pill. You want to make sure you keep your new stomach safe.

    8 days post opo

I don't think you should eat anything ...specialy the first two weeks. it's not right...you need time. i was told to stay on Fluids for two weeks , then mased food ( 4-6 ) weeks. depend on you. after that you can go back to normal food. however, it must be healthy and you need to chew it slowly. you can find a lot of info here. but i think you need to check with your doctor.

    Heart Burn?

Heartburn and gas pains r 2 totally different entities. I never had heartburn pre sleeve, but I had severe nightime reflux (from a slipped lapband). After my sleeve, I lost the reflux and gained horrible daytime heartburn. Didn't even have to eat/drink anything. My dr had taken me off my pre surgery medication (Prilosec) and changed me to Pepcid. Wasn't doing anything so I switched myself back to Prilosec 2x a day to see if it worked. It did. He approved it the following week. If u haven't asked ur dr about a PPI, do so now. I will most likely take it forever. It's small price to pay for no reflux or heartburn and to avoid obesity. U can buy OTC PPI's also. Presurgery I would take RX Prilosec, OTC Zantac (about 4x the normal dose) and lotsa Tums everynight just so I wouldn't vomit stomach acid onto my pillow. Now I just take Prilosec (and an occasional Tums) and I'm fine. Good luck!

HELP cannot get rid of gas

I was banded on 5/23 and the gas and bloating pain lasted a good 10 days - 2 weeks, but I'm 3 weeks out and it's gone unless I overeat, in which case it comes back, but only for an hour or two. I was miserable the first week and not much happier the second, but it is 3 weeks today and I feel 99% back to normal. You will, too.

    Pain from drinking

I am 9 weeks post op and I still have major stomach spasms. I even take a prescription medicine to try and calm the spasms down, but it never fails whenever I eat anything, I get the spams. I'm definitely going to be talking to my surgeon about this on my next visit. This feeling cannot last forever.

To Fill or Not to Fill

This is just me, cause I've been to tight and caused the band to slip and paid out of pocket 2x's for the band. 1x for a slip fix. I'd wait until I wasn't losing 2 lbs. per week before I got another fill. But I'm just terrified of being overfilled and having to pay for fills and unfills. Just listen to your body. Nobody knows it better than you

    Why Do I Sabotage?

I've been struggling with this question for the last three weeks or so. I need a fill but am waiting until after my son's wedding in three weeks time. I have my outfit and obviously want to wear it yet I find myself accepting that slice of cake at morning tea, or eating the sweet slices my sister-in-law brought to that family event. At the moment I am winning by exercise but I need to work on getting my head in the right space! good luck to all of us
  16. And I'm not complaining. I had at one point a goal weight of around 220lb and now.... Well my first "real" goal is to get under 300lb and go from there. Coming from 440lb I think hitting that would be incredible. As of today I am but 28lb away from 299. If I play it right I could be there by the end of next month. Six weeks to drop 28lb shouldn't be too hard (I hope). One thing's for sure, I am getting tired of buying new work clothes (ok not really). It amazes me that at the times where I feel I eat too much I actually lose the most. And will someone explain to me why/how it's easier to eat carbs as opposed to Proteins? At this point I am 29 weeks removed from surgery. I am up to eating 1,400-1,900 calories daily. Once I think I went over that but that was months ago. I feel normal. And really, that's pretty much all I wanted. One day my body will catch up to my new eating habits and I'll be golden.

    Sleep Study Experience

I know how you feel, I hate that goop they put in your hair, and after they took the wires off of my legs the first time, the tape had stuck so badly, I had a bruise there for over a week. Ouch!!! I was called to go back a second time as it seems I didn't stop breathing during the first test until it was almost time to wake me up. So with the second one they put me on the CPAP machine and throughout the night, they kept changing the masks to see which one worked the best. Then the stupid wires they originally put on quit working, so they had to start all over. I for the life of me don't know why they call it a sleep study if they don't let you sleep, lol. Bottom line, I do have minor sleep apnea, so now I get to wear this lovely gel mask on my face that scares my poor dog half to death. I have to hide my head under the covers or she cries and runs to the foot of the bed shaking. But I do have to say, it certainly has helped me sleep through the night and not wake up like I just went to bed. I have more energy and don't need to take a nap in the middle of the day anymore, so all in all I guess it was worth it. Cindy

    Full later?

I had the same problem again today, but not as bad. I even had a hard boiled egg for dinner almost 3 hours ago and didn't feel this full until about an hour after dinner. Jalomum, I had one fill about 6 weeks ago, of 2 cc's in my 10 cc band. That is the only fill I've had. I haven't had a problem with any food getting stuck or anything, so I hadn't thought it would come up now. Thanks for your advice. It was nice to eat some carbs, but it looks like I'll have to go back to a more Protein focused diet.
  20. Wow! You are doing awesome!!! Congrats!! I'm 8.5 weeks out and down 47lbs. Can I ask how many calories you are taking in per day? I stalled for a couple weeks recently so upped my calories. It restarted my weight loss thankfully. I'm getting about 1000 cals/day now (while stalled was at 700) but feel it's too much even though I started losing again. I don't know.... Just curious where you're at calorie wise since you're so successful at this.

    Calories?

I'm only 2 1/2 weeks post op, but they told me to focus on Proteins & fluids. I agree that it is strange to be eating so few calories, but it's part of the post op plan. Also, as @@Djmohr mentioned, the Vitamins are important. Oh, and getting enough sleep! Good luck!

    High Intesity Interval Training

I also do high intensity intervals with my trainer. She has me run at my comfortable pace on the treadmill and then I have to raise the speed and/or the incline and run as fast as I can until she tells me to stop. I think it's usually 30-60 seconds per interval. Then, my "rest" period is back at my comfortable pace. We repeat that a lot in the workout. We've been adding that in about once a week. I think it's interesting and makes the time go fast. Also, it makes my comfortable pace seem sort of slow, so I think it will also help me build up my speed. Enjoy! Rose

    The Firm Express DVDs

I just got mine in the mail about a week ago. Haven't been able to start yet (just had my gallbladder out) but I'm really excited. I've used the firm videos before and always seen results when I stuck with them but each video was 55 minutes and I just couldn't fit them into my day. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

    This Gas is Crazy

I am two weeks post op. I lost 20 lbs on my own before surgery and I have lost 13 pounds in the last two weeks. I am recovering well but the gas is crazy.. what causes it. in my previous life I would get gas from drinking tonns of diet coke...but in the months before the surgery I gave it up and felt great. Now I am 2 weeks post op and I don't understand why there is so much gas. It isn't the surgery gas either.. that was better after the first week. Can anyone give me some advice on what I can do to make it better? Does this ever go away?

    From: Pre-Op Diet

Follow your surgeon's orders. My surgeon told me my liver needed to shrink, so the preop diet is needed to do that. I have followed a very low carb plan, taking vitamins, more activity, and roughly 1200-1400 cal plan per day. I have not begun protein shakes yet. I see my surgeon Thurs morning this week, so will officially start preop diet then. Good luck! I believe my surgery will be either May 27 or 31. I was told that I have to do a 2 week pre-op diet by my surgeon's office. I decided to begin a week early and do 2 protein shakes per day along with one healthy meal. Today I had to start the surgeon required portion of the diet and I was told that I could have 2 shakes per day, and could only eat soup, SF jello, and SF popsicles, though no specific calorie limit was set so now, I have absolutely no idea how many calories I should be eating. Last week I kept it at 1200 per day with a lot of success, I wasn't hungry and I lost 6.5 pounds. Today I've had only 535 calories and I'm not starving, but I am hungry and am not sure if it's ok for me to go up to 800 or if I should try to keep it around 500 - 600 per day. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome! Thanks Erin Source: Pre-Op Diet
