    TRICARE

I have Tricare Prime and my surgery is on May 18th. I have not seen the final ok but the doctor I am working with said it should be no problem and they have many Tricare patients. I can get the sleeve or bypass. The sleeve is new to their list for approval. I asked my primary care for a referral and I had it in less than a week. I researched the area for the surgeon I wanted to go with and checked on their website that they worked with Tricare. The doctor I am using is listed in the Tricare as a general surgeon. The long wait was for an opening with this doctor. Once I got in his office together he and Tricare required: One appointment with psych. (This is covered under Tricare Prime). One appointment with a nutritionist. (This was not covered and I paid $75 to see the nutricianist in his office). An appointment with my primary to be released for surgery. (Regular copay). An appointment at the hospital for prep (blood work, ecg... No copay) If you are getting the sleeve my doctor requires an endoscopy to make sure you are good. (I don't think this was a Tricare requirement). The surgeons office just called and asked me to start on some Vitamin B12, D and Iron due to my blood work. They seem sure I am good to get the surgery in 3 weeks. I am staying optimistic and will update when I more info or if anyone has any questions...
  2. I'm 4 weeks out from my surgery (Dec. 27th). I noticed this weekend that I'm really starting to get an appetite. I was at a conference this weekend and wasn't allowed to bring in food. soooo looking for the most "mushie" food I could find, I found myself eating 3/4 of a tuna sandwich. I guess from reading everyone's posts here, I was surprised that I was able to eat the bread. I have lost only a few ounces this week . I was very spoiled by losing so much so fast.. now I seem to be slowing down. I also started doing some serious walking this last week. I don't know if I'm gaining muscle and it's out-weighing the fat loss, (or what)... ?? Does this mean I'm soon ready for a fill soon? I'm getting nervous that I'll hit a plateau. Other than my worrying about feeling hungry and not losing .... I'm feeling GREAT!!! How are you all doing/did at 4 weeks out???

Why am I always STUCK and PBing?!?!

This is something I recently experienced; mostly it was pain after eating. I got my band 3/09 and have lost about 65 lbs. I never met my goal, and there are about 10 lbs. that come and go at will. When I saw my surgeon on 12/5 he must have misread my intake paperwork because when I went into the room he had a syringe ready. I thought he would take out some of the fill I had gotten on 7/30. Since it had been over 5 months I was sure I had done something, or something had gone wrong with the band. He gave me .5cc talked to me and sent me home. I did liquids for a day and I could feel that I was tight. I did small sips of liquids and I did VERY SMALL bites of food, worked at doing only 1/2 c, slowed down time used eating until last week. I now don't feel the tightness and I haven't had any problems unless I forget to follow the guidelines. Funny thing is I lost 8 lbs. in a week that I had been fighting for a year without doing other than what I mentioned. I plan to try a day of liquids each week to see if it will get things going again.
  4. This has been going in for about 6 mos at least. I've done liquids etc for several days. I thought it was just something I should just have to get used to. I've even had a previous hernia ral days. I thought it was just something I should just have to get used to. I've even had a previous hernia rupture and another one develop that were both repaired two weeks ago. I have about 5.5 ccs in my band. I just don't wanna feel like a failure is all. Thank you and I will call him today.

    Question for women

Well, I'm not looking foward to that!!!! I just had a baby in late October. had bleeding all through november. Then in December I had the Mirena put in and spotted had my period for the last 3 weeks. I'm ready for this to be over!!!! Now I might have some more bleeding!!!!
  6. I have been banded 4 months and recently started working out with a personal trainer. Once a week we do abs for almost an entire work out. I dont have any pain while I am doing the actual excercises but the next day the pain around my port is especially irritating. Am I doing too much? Will this harm my port? Does this go away? I dont want to stop doing the excercises for my abs because I really am noticing a difference but at the same time I dont want to set myself up for a flipped port or something goofy.

My Doc won't give me a fill

I went this am to see if I could get a fill. My surgeon is very happy with my progress and doesn't feel I need it. He does not want to see me get too tight and says I am doing a good job. I lost another 4 lbs since my last appt. 3 weeks ago. He sat and spoke with me for about 20 min. He went over all the complications from being filled too tight. He is such a nice guy it is hard to get mad. I am disappointed. I drive an hour to see him and then wait for some time to hear keep up the good work. He says that I am a good patient and I am doing it the right way. I would love to say my hunger is gone but it is not. He says that for some people the hunger does not go away ever no matter how filled they are. He comes across alot of individuals who eat around the band and make bad choices and still gain or do not lose after this surgery. I don't know what to do. I am not going to rush back there anytime soon. It takes up my whole morning. The only good part was seeing the scale go down which I knew b/c I weigh myself every morning. I hope everyone is well today and keep up the good work !!!!

1 week post op! Moving Back to School Tomorrow:/

So today makes one week since I have had my surgery. Honestly this week has went by really fast and I am definitely healing. It does still hurt to sit/stand/bend down but it is getting better each day. I move back into the dorms tomorrow and classes start on Thursday. A lot of new worries come about with going back to school. Just little challenges I guess. My first request to lower or drop my meal plan was denied so they want me to pay 3000$ a semester for meals that are I will not be eating because of sheer volume and lack of healthy options! A little bit mad about that but I am working on that problem now getting in touch with different people. I'm interested to see how all of my friends are going to react when I get back, even the ones that know about my surgery. There was mixed reactions from the people I told most supportive but still a few "why would you need to do that"s. Soooo basically tomorrow and the rest of this week should be interesting to say the least. Hopefully will get back on here at some point. Until then.... Mary

    A Newbie With Questions

Have you searched the site about stalls? It is quite normal and common. Your body is going through a major adjustment. Just keep doing what you are doing. Don't get discouraged and don't weigh yourself very often. Once a week at a minimum. Best if every two weeks.

    Not losing weight

This is normal. There's been tons of posts from people just a few weeks out panicking about the stall... but it is perfectly normal and will happen quite a bit more over the next year or two. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351046-embrace-the-stall/ I've just posted this same advice in another thread recently: I know it can seem like you shouldn't have to deal with stalls since you went through surgery, but try to think of them as rest breaks for your body to catch up. You couldn't run flat out for 100 miles without a break - you'd need to stop every so often and catch your breath, have a few swigs of Water and get revved back up to hit that trail and run fast again. That's exactly what your body is doing - taking a breather in preparation to performing another sprint (drop a few pounds). Sometimes it might need a short rest, sometimes it might need longer (weeks). But if you keep giving it what it needs (water/protein/exercise) you'll start sprinting again. And get out a tape measure and take measurements NOW. Arms, chest, waist, hips and thighs. You'll see during those stalls that you might just be dropping fat (it gets burned off and replaced with muscle). Since a pound of fat and a pound of muscle weigh the same, it might not show up on the scale, but fat is MUCH bulkier than muscle, so you'll see it in the tape measure and how your clothes fit. Stalls are vital. Stalls are GOOD. It means you're hitting a new peak and getting ready for some weight loss coming up.

    Not losing weight

I hit a stall at week 2-3. I was obsessing over the scale but I was losing inches. I lost 15lbs, 2% body fat & 1 pant size by my almost 4 week post op appt. Don't get frustrated. It happens to everyone. I am cleared to work out so I am gonna go full force with that. I am a smaller patient so I know I am going to lose slower than most. Sent from my SM-G920P using BariatricPal

    Pre op diet! SOS

Now that just sounds nuts! I’ve been reading a lot online and I know the liquid diet helps to clear your system and make sure there aren’t any chunks of food in your system so I get that. A protein based diet with zero carbs and sugar puts us in ketosis and basically helps our fatty liver shrink so it’s easier to perform the surgery. If you don’t even know when your surgery is going to be than I think it’s crazy to be on all liquid! The crazy thing about the pre op diet is that everyone has such different instructions!! Some people do a liquid diet two week before surgery and I’ve talked to someone that only had a liquid diet 3 days before surgery! I wish there was a cookie cutter answer for this
  14. I had a pretty good day today! I'm 29 days since my sleeve, and my scale moved again! I'm down to 215 from 285 ( What I was 8 months ago). I got some new clothes today in the mail for an up coming Christmas party I'll be going to. I was so worried that they wouldn't fit, because I got size Large shirts( I use to wear a 3-XXX) and size 18 jeans with zipper, and button front closures.( I use to wear a size 26/28 pants with all elastic waist) When my clothes arrived I held my breath as I took each one out of it's package, and tried them on one by one! I had gotten three shirts, two jean pants, two sweat pants, two bra's, and a pair of dress shoes. Not all to wear to the party, but they were having a great sale at Women With IN, and I needed some new clothes cause all my old ones were HUGE on me! To my delight they all fit me perfectly! I was smiling, and giggling as I tried them on for my husband. I was so excited and was saying,"They fit, they fit, they actually fit me honey"! I can't believe I can fit into an 18! I haven't worn a size 18 in least 25 years! I was feeling down yesterday, and I didn't weight for a few days, because my scale didn't move! Now today my weight was down more, and I could finally tell I AM smaller! I just wanted to share in case any of you are feeling down, or discouraged. Hang in there, and it WILL happen, and you will be thinner, and healthier!
  15. First and foremost--- MY WEDDING DRESS FITS!!!!!! I'm engaged. The wedding was planned for 2006 in Hawaii. Then my hubby's mom got sick and was in hospital. So we postponed the wedding ( and decided to start trying for a baby- I wanted to have kids earlier in life). Then she passed away while I was pregnant with her first grandchild. Life went on and the wedding has always been on the back burner. We now have 2 little monsters we love to death. Now- keep in mind- the dress never actually fit me before. I was going to " lose a little more" before the wedding. Instead I ballooned out. But it fits now!!! Yay!!! And I still love it!!! I took a couple pics, but I can't find the cord to attach it to the computer : ( I'm a baker by trade. I was always exhausted by end of day. It's a very physical job. Now I fly through a shift faster and more efficient. I don't even break a sweat while working in the ovens!!! And believe me, those be some damn hot ovens!!! In a 2 day timeline, I had 8 ( yes 8) people comment on my weighloss and how great I look. It's simply awsome : ) I'm training for a half marathon and run a 5k 4-5 days a week. When i take my heartrate, it used to go high and stay high when i work out. Now it doesnt go as high and drops back down to a good resting rate quickly. Once I can get my time alittle better, I'll add more distance. But I'm so proud of what I'm doing. One of the best parts is that my body isn't so sore like it used to be after a workout. I guess it's just recovering better? I biggest nsv to date is my attitude. I'm so much of a happier person now. I think alot of it, is just not being so tired all the time, and sore from carrying an extra 80 lbs around, and I'm not ashamed of what I've become anymore. I'm proud to be me now : )

    Jillian Micheal's Body Revolution

Well bandsters I started, Jillian Micheal's Body revolution on Saturday, July 27th. My goal is to be at my ideal body weight of 132 by the end of this 90 day training session. I am also going to continue to work out with my trainer 3 days a week for a while. I find it so addictive and difficult to break up with him. He is so motivational and pushes me to do more. My other goal is to cut back on training sessions by the end of this session with my DVD's so I will have more money for clothes. I will log my progress here weekly, so stay tuned. ( I am posting this so I will be accountable, out there for the world to see) Starting weight: 140 Waist: 30" Bust:( upper chest) 36" Below Bust: 33" Lower Abdomen: 36 2/8" Hips: 36 6/8" Thighs: (Largest Part) 21" Calf: 13 7/8 " Upper Arm: 11 7/8 " I will do my measurements and weight every Sunday for the next 90 days to follow my progress.

    Hair Loss....OMG

OK November Bandsters! I am needing some reassuring today. My hair is falling out at a rapid pace. I have noticed for the last month that my hair is noticeably thinning out. Now I do know that it is normal to lose some hair but at rate I am going I won't have much left. Everyday, when I take my shower I lose a drain full. I towel dry my hair and lose some more. I comb my hair and lose some more. OMG I am shedding. I read on the General board the hairloss thread but I want to know if you November Bandsters are experiencing hairloss. This is what I am doing to combat it but have not seen it work and started this over 2 weeks ago. Increase my Protein Take Biotin 2500mcg daily Shampoo/Condition with Nioxin (only sold in hair salons) What else do you recommend?
  21. I have been banded for less than 5 weeks and I had my first fill one week ago. I had 5 cc put in during surgery and I had .7 put in the band during the first fill. I am not sure if I am vomiting or Sliming but at every meal, I have a great deal of mucus bring my food up again and it looks like pure slime. I do not have the acid taste of throwing up but the food comes right back up again chewed. Someone help please!!! I have not lost any weight in over a month and I am not sure if I am actually vomiting at every meal and jeopardizing the band. Any advice would be appreciated.
  22. Since I've had actual restriction (about 20 mths now), I physically can't drink while eating. I read in a lap-band instruction book that some people have the "cork effect" - where the food clogs up my esophagus and when I drink, it backs up and I vomit up all of the liquid. But when I first got my band, until I had restriction (about 5 mths), I continually drank while eating. I don't think I followed many rules back then. But now, I actually CAN'T drink. In fact, this morning, I had to take a pain pill after Breakfast. I had to wait an hour before I could even take a sip of Water to down the pill. I can tell when the food has settles into my stomach - usually about 45 - 60 mins. If I knew 2 yrs ago what I know now, I would've followed the rules a little better. I have lost over 100 lbs and am about 9 lbs from goal, but that's totally the band working, not me at all. I waited until I got restriction before I made any changes. For almost the full 5 mths after my surgery, I ate pretty much the way I did before my surgery - I couldn't even stick to liquids only for 4 weeks. I now know there's a reason for the rules. Back then I didn't see the point. Good luck! Marci

    Still Hungry

I have the same issue and I'm only a week and a half post op...I would like to start getting my fills!
  24. mkmelissag

    What do you say?

I get this a lot too - especially from my mom and sister. I try to respond by saying right now I'm not focusing on the numbers, but rather on how I feel. Then I show them how loose my pants are. I was banded on 12/24 and have 2 weeks until my first fill. I get tired of trying to explain fills, restriction, etc. too. I weigh myself only once a week anyway, so I can always say, "gee, I'm not sure, haven't weighed since Tuesday!" I also hate, can you eat that??? Um, if I couldn't, I wouldn't. I don't need food police.
  25. Ok, my question is... I was banded on 10/24. By the 3rd day I was fine with drinking fluids. It's now been, 2.5 and I'm already eating. yes I know I'm not suppose to, but I stay so hungry! I'm, afraid I'll strech my stomach, is this possible? I'm not eating anywhere near wha i use to, but I'm already eating "soft foods". I'm afraid I'll gain weight before my 1st fill in 3 weeks. Anyone else have this problem?
