I've definitely had weeks where I've lost a little more and weeks when I've lost less or even gained. I try not to get frustrated with the gains b/c I know I'm doing everything right. I think it's just normal. Our bodies are very complex! I really need a fill right now...fortunately I'm scheduled for one Tuesday!

Just a little nervous and scared, I have no idea what to expect. I lost about 20 pounds the first 3 weeks and havent lost anything after that. SURGERY/CURRENT/GOAL 230/ 210/ 135

I go to Dr. Curry. Last week I went to a seminar at his office with relatives who are planning to be banded; I thought he said he is no longer able to take patients who were banded elsewhere because he is so busy with his own patients. But... it doesn't hurt to ask.

Marion Thanks for sharing the recipe. I wondered what Anzac Biscuits were. I am having a good weekend, even though it is rainy here this week. I finally cleaned up a mess of paperwork yesterday and managed to get in a nice walk between the rain showers. I got myself an I Pod, and it is helping me to want to walk more, because I love listening to the music. I also joined a waking club that starts in a few weeks. I hope to meet some people in my area that like to walk for exercise. A health club in the area is sponsoring the walking club and we will walk around various parks in the area. I did a 50 min cardio workout DVD this morning. Oh my, two years ago I certainly would not have been able to do that! I am going to pick-up my Mother from the retirement center and have her for lunch today. So I made a big fruit salad, crab cakes and wild rice. I don't eat rice often, but this is whole grain and should be pretty healthy. Have a good week. And keep up the good work! Having only one cookie once in a while is O.K. We can't give up everything - all the time. Karen

TV Show "The Doctors" Lap Band Family NOW-TODAY
KayVee replied to Band_Groupie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, I need to check the listings and catch this if I can. Thanks for the heads up. I'm just a bit ahead of you groupie, I've done the seminar, psych and I"m into my nutrition appts now. Trying to work the diet and exercise into a better habit. I am on my 2nd week of no more carbonated drinks...I was a diet cokaholic and really don't miss it that much. Ice tea and flavored water are my new friends and another bandster put me on to G2, the lower calorie gatorade drink. It's pretty good. Anyway, thanks for the help. kathi -
Golf ball with water!!!!!!!!!!Any advise???
I'llsucceed replied to athykay's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Kathy please tell us how you are later today. I have to say that sounds like an extremely hard weekend to go through. BUT I heard in our support groups that fills sometimes take several days to get used to the renewed tightness. That they even have a little more give days later. Those that had them decreased where less happy weeks later than those whom toughed it out while they adjusted. I think the warm liquids is the best advise given thus far & I just bet you'll be doing much better by Sunday nite/Monday morn. Of course if its unbearable there should be a doc on call from the office to help. Occupy your weekend as much as possible, it will fly by:cool: -
Before my husband had his band, he was on the Atkins for a while and then Optifast the week just before his surgery. The week before my surgery I too will be on the optifast. (at least I think that is the brand.) The liver will shink with the weight-loss, and the reason for this is that our surgeon wants the most room to be able to do the surgery.

Glad you liked them which reminds me, I still have some in the freezer -- better eat them up soon. It was so good to finally meet you -- just wish the meetings were better - maybe give it another shot next month? It would be great if they would organize the topics and let us know what they will be discussing and if they would ENCOURAGE older bandsters to attend - I'll mention this to Chris this week and see what she says. I loved Pam, though -- she's great too. We'll make it through this - the three of us -- we'll be skinny minis in no time! Linda

First, congratulations on being lucky enough to have insurance pay for either procedure. . .secondly, the choice is strictly yours. The band or gastric bypass is a personal choice. . .however, i've seen a lot of folks have a lot of problems with the RNY. . .infections causing tons of hospitalization, increased depression (hope your insurance can pay this if it should happen) higher mobidity rates (one person I know died 2 weeks after having it from complications - sorry) But again, the choice is definately yours to make, your the one who has to live with it. . . Good luck and the best to you!

Thank you Damomb. . . it surely wasn't meant to be nasty, but it was taken out of text of course. . .yes, I've seen first class the amounts of hospitalizations infection from RNY has caused as well as death. . . but as i said those are personal choices and those folks who chose either is a choice they have to live with. . personally after doing MY RESEARCH and getting the "FACTS" I have chosen lap band. . .have a great week all and an even better evening!!!!

Has anyone heard of Raw Protien? It is 17 gms of protein,80 calories per scoop. It is brown rice protien. Live probiotics and enzyme. Raw,vegan, gluten free, dairy free. I a, looking for something to put in broth or other foods that might not have protein. I am on week out from surgery. Is there any problem with live probiotics at this point?

The band doesnt stop the bad ice cream and poor food selection. Ive eaten bad many times. Slow loser on count of it. Its just a tool to help. I know now that my diet and my meaning my intervention and self discipline still has to be a part of this. Yeah Ive sat and eat all the bad foods. Blizzards, pizza, on and on. For the last 2 months Ive gotten involved in a huge group from work that they paid for. Dietitians, trainers, weigh ins. Lost 16 Lbs in 6 weeks. Just the diet and exercise!

Congratulations! Of course it's worth celebrating. I started at 324 and it is overwhelming to think about it more than one pound at a time. The next 50 will be very noticeable. Getting under 300 is amazing. Wait until you see what it is like to get under 200 - triple what it felt like to get under 300. Keep in mind that with the LapBand you're supposed to average 1 - 2 pounds a week. Seems to me like you're right where you're supposed to be. Slow and steady wins the race. Celebrate with something meaningful to you. Sue

I started the week at 243 .... yesterday the scale said 247 - what the HECK?!?!?!?! This past weekend I was on liquids because of my recent fill, now Im back on solids and that 4 lbs just jumped on???? SIGH AT least I'm getting my protein in. And I went to the gym twice already this week and I'm going again today for more cardio. Maybe I'll try to do a liquid breakfast and a liquid dinner for the next couple of days and see if that makes a difference. (I can't eat liquid lunch on weekdays every day, I would be too jealous of my work friends eating real food). Wish me luck!

I too had Dr. Eldridge. The whole experience has been a real breeze for me. I had none of the after surgery complications that I've heard others have. Just a little problem with the healing of my port site but that was my fault I think. It's all better now. Had my first fill last week and doing great. My only complaint is there seems to be no long-term follow-up or support. They've done their job and now it's up to us! I guess that is right though, it really is up to us to make it work.

I'm nervous...
onelessfatgirl replied to onelessfatgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much everyone, your support means a lot!! I told my patents last night. My mom isn't really too in-the-know about cuurent wls options. She first gave me some of the "I hope you know what you are doing.... this is permanent.... I hope you understand the risks." I think, based on some of her questions, that she initially thought I'd be getting roux-en-y. She asked if I'd be on shakes the rest of my life and if I'd ever be able to sit down and eat a meal with them. She said she didn't understand why I'd be able to stick to a diet post-op but not before. I shared with her some research findings about the long term success rates of those who have over 100lbs to lose and attempt it ::eye roll:: "the natural way." She said she'd like to see me thin and happy and I interrupted her and told her this was more than what I look like; it's about my long term well being, preventing health issues, living a life with and for my family (especially my kids). I shared with her some of the things that keeps me from living fully like, last week NOT taking my 7 year old to the school skating party because my DH was out of town and my knees have been killing me and frankly I was worried that if I fell I'd seriously injure myself, embarrass my son, and be out of commission for a while. Interestingly, she didn't ask about my husband or his thoughts. Which, I totally appreciate that one of her go-to thoughts wasn't about my husbands take or influence. I think she knows me well enough to know I'm my own woman, with a strong mind and personality. I'm sure she'll talk to my sister but I anticipate my sister will be supportive as she's been banded. I invited her to ask me more questions or talk to me about her concerns. So, we'll see how it goes. My DH told me he was very proud of me for facing my parents. I don't let many people rattle me but boy, they sure can. I respect them so much and how smart and strong they have been throughout their lives. But I'm a grown woman who has to do what's right for me and my little family. -

After over 12 years...time to remove
Short and Chunky replied to JFuller's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey JFuller. Hope your appointment went well with your doctor and you got some answers to your problem. Sounds like it has been a bit rough lately. I had my band 2 1/2 years and we got along just fine until this April. I had a major slip and the blood supply was cut off from most of my stomach. I vomited blood for over 24 hours when rescue came and picked me up at work. I had surgery that night and my band was removed. I still have Gastric Sleeve Plication and my doctor said that the scar tissue from my band will act like my band for awhile. Well, in the past month, I have gained a few pounds (11 I thin) but this is OK with me and the doctor. I had got a bit malnurouished and now I have B12 and B1 injections every week to rebuild. I am also starting a new relationship with food. With this sleeve, I can eat differently, but I have to eat wisely and I am just not there yet. I have return to exercising and I feel so much better. I really didn't know my band was making me sick until is made me very sick. Take care and keep us posted on your progress. I really understand..this journey is tough too... Melinda in Florida -

I just got approved this morning!!!!!!! Now what?
Julia_N replied to sandy00's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! A few days after I got my approval letter, my doctor's office called me to attend a final pre-op seminar. It lasted a couple of hours. Then a few weeks later, I had my final pre-op appointment and got the last-minute instructions for going to the hospital. Since my doctor's office is adjacent to the hospital, I went over there and did a pre-registration and some last-minute pre-admission tests -- urine, blood, EKG, and a couple of chest X-rays. I didn't expect to do all the pre-admission stuff and I ended up spending most of a day there, instead of the time it usually takes for an appointment. Glad I was able to do that instead of at 5:30 a.m., which is my report time. Good luck! -
Hey Pauliegirl, I'm so sorry to hear about your erosion. :welldone: As I'm sure you know, Dr. Bertha is VERY experienced and will steer you in absolutely the right direction. As I understand it, often the erosion repair is quite swift and only a matter of a few weeks is needed before a new band can be installed (if you're interested in that). Whether another WLS can or should be done at the time of band removal depends on your personal medical situation. Good luck and I hope everything works out just the way you want!!

Brian, Since the Gallbladder surgery and lapband surgery can be done at the same time, it makes sense to me to go ahead with the lapband too. You recover once instead of twice. The recovery is a breeze. It seems like your doctor is okay with the risk since he said it can be done at the same time. The question to be answered is "are you prepared to change a lifetime of poor food decisions and the pychological loss of your best friend?" You are going to have to find new ways to entertain yourself that doesn't involve a stop for fast food. For me it was easy to make the decision because I was finally hopeful that the Lapband was the answer to 18 years of dieting and weighing 100 pounds more than I did at 38. I am 56, female and enjoy excellent health. ( other than achey knees and lower back from extra weight. ) The hardest part for me was the head hunger which was pretty strong in the first few weeks. I am now, one month post op and no longer struggle with that. In fact, I am hardly ever hungry. It may even be helpful for my grandkids because I am not dragging them to fast food and restaurants for treats and entertainment to feed my own habit. Good luck in your decision and finally, I would ask myself..."What do you have to lose?"
