Extremely Nervous About Upcoming Sleeve Surgery On 5/21/12.
cookie2012 replied to banksdea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations to all of us who have been sleeved or yet to have our operations!!! My surgery is in 2 weeks and I am also going up and down but I'm mostly up and think of the things that will give me pleasure again such as exercising, shopping for clothes and wearing jeans. I can't wait!! I am feeling excited about never having to "diet" again - think of all the time and money we will have for other things! -

It's okay to have doubts before surgery. It is elective surgery so you have the choice. You can choose to something that will forever change your life for the better! Is it easy? Nope! Not at first. My first 3 months were a bit rough but each day got better and better and staying on this board helped tremendously! This will be the best decision you can make for yourself! Soon you will be laughing at all those diet commercials! -
Extremely Nervous About Upcoming Sleeve Surgery On 5/21/12.

Thank you to everyone who has responded. I've calmed down a ton! My nerves are mostly that I won't wake up. I have had multiple surgeries (I'm a klutz), and I've always been fine with anesthesia. Even my husband says I could administer my own. I guess it's just because the kids are growing up and I'm just afraid. I have a lot of support, and I know this is the best thing for me. I'm super excited. The 2 week low cal diet is hard, total shock to my body. I'm not used to eating so little! Of course, that's what got me in this mess in the first place! So, I just wanted to thank you all for your support and advice. I will have pictures up so we can all see how much better I look after a while! Good luck everyone! -
i dont want to scare you but im planing a funneral for a helthy therty year old less then a week after surgery

I totally agree with you. Omg! I read and read and read, and still feel like I'm going to fail. But I've read good and bad but u have to listen to your heart and body. The mind is tricky but think strong. Today my hubby bought McDonald's for Breakfast. I smelled it smelled so good. All I got was a snack size parfait to eat for a snack later today, but I'm trying to control it now before my pre-op next week. Good luck to u! Keep us posted. Two years of reading should guide u on your journey for Monday!

I do, November 6. I started my pre-op last week. So far so good. -
I think the first thing you need to do is not go forward with the thinking that you will never have a certain food again! Yes we have to change our ways after surgery but I am able to eat a little bit of anything! I don't normally, but if there is a special occasion or meal I can have a treat sometimes. As far as the food funerals??? When I knew I had a date I went to the store before my pre op and picked up a pint of some kind of ice cream (can't even remember the flavor how sad) went home and ate half of it that night and finished it the next day.. After I ate it?? Nothing, it was just gone it didn't feel special it didn't make me feel better, in fact it did nothing for me except make me feel crappier about myself. And added to the weight I needed to lose.. Fast forward to today, I can eat normal again so if I wanted a bit of ice cream I could. So I guess what I'm saying is don't sabotage yourself with thoughts of "I need to eat this now because I can never have it again" Oh the pre op diet Zare will take care of that for you and provide the shakes, it's two weeks I think? You will go through all of the stages of food after that he has spelled out for you. Now I'm on all foods but I eat a lot different than I used too. Mostly Protein and veggies. No more rice bread and Pasta..

Hi SunShyne, I started my journey (the group seminar) at the end of June. I had my first appointment with Dr. Pirrello about 2 weeks later. Then I spent from July - September waiting on and going to the other required appointments (nut. eval, psych. eval, etc.). There was a bit of a mis-communication with my psych. eval. and it ended up taking 1 month to have it sent to Dr. Pirrello. So, I probably could have been approved and ready for surgery by the beginning of October or so if it hadn't been for the "psych." delay. I found out the 1st of November that BCBS had approved me, and I had my surgery on the 20th. So, for me it took around 5 months from start to end. But - you sound like you have a lot of the 'little' stuff taken care of, so you should move right along! Hope I didn't ramble too much. Keep me posted on your progress!!! GOOD LUCK!

Hey I'm 9days out and have only lost 14lbs I believe some progress at 1 week is better than no progress at all. R u still on liquid diet

My insurance required weekly classes for 3 months. The time flew by and I made a couple of new friends.

It took 7 months from the time I went to the first seminar to my surgery date. It could have taken less time but my work schedule did not permit me to go any faster. I only went to one class and one support group meeting, the rest of the hoops were testing and getting various MD clearances. My insurance company approved on the first submital (it took about 3 weeks for them to approve the surgery). I know some insurance companies want you to be one a medically supervised weight loss preogam for 6 - 12 months before they will approve surgery. Your surgeon's office should be able to tell you the hoops you'll have go through for your whatever insurance you have. To be honest I needed the time to get my head around the surgery and to commit to the life style change. I am so glad I did. Good Luck

3 weeks post op - serious fatigue
Daisee68 replied to pokeyvenus's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The third week is oddly a hard week. I don't know why but even my Dr acknowledged that. Third week after my hysterectomy was very difficult too. Weird -
Any time you have any symptoms that last longer than 2 weeks that does not resolve with going on liquids, if you've been irritated with food being stuck, should be examined by your lap band surgeon. Classic signs of band slippage or pouch dilation are, new onset reflux and coughing especially at night, with stuff coming back up. And painful eating, and food intolerance issues. Sometimes, if you've had a very bad stuck episode, it does not mean slippage, sometimes going on liquids a bit to see if things resolve will help, but again...slippage symptoms will not let up until you get some saline removed. Chest pains (where the lap band pouch is located) not associated with heart issues, and painful eating, frequent vomiting and stomach pain and nausea..

Hi all I am currently into my first week on puree. My meal sizes are around or just under the 100g mark and they take a good 30 min to eat. But there is a minor problem..... Does anyone else suffer from a build up of excess mucus? I'm not drinking prior to or during lunch and I know I'm not overeating. It's not a very nice feeling half way through a meal and it's a good job I live on my own as it can happen 3 or 4 times in a meal... lol Any thoughts or advice welcome. Many thanks.

Day 3 of pre op diet here. Using BariEssential Meal Replacements. I like the Peanut Butter one best with a tablespoon of unsweetened organic cacao. Surprisingly they are keeping full. I don't have a sweet tooth at all so I'm drinking homemade Soup in between: low sodium broth, low carb veggies like spinach, Napa cabbage, ginger...etc. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

nborz replied to nborz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey! I bet you're nervous and excited huh? I know I am... this diet is kicking my butt! I ended up "cheating" somewhat yesterday, although my doctor said that the first week of the diet I can supplement with a high protein/low carb/fat meal here and there. I still felt guilty and it didn't taste good. -
After You Lose the Weight
Dub replied to GermanShepherdMama's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
In the past month I've taken on the airplane seat..........not a problem. Anytime & anywhere is my new motto. There hasn't been a restaurant booth that I've shied away from. All were very comfortable. In the months ahead I'll be doing the amusement park thing, too......and rollercoasters will be tried. Sitting shirtless at a poolside bar was done last week..........nobody shrieked.....I was relaxed and at ease. Bought a few t-shirts from random surf shops......and they fit just fine. Things are going well. So grateful for my sleeve. -
Just getting a little nervous and excited at the same time. So many things going through my mind but I know they will pass. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Have u felt any of the tiredness everybody seems to be having after surgery? Or any of the gas pains?? I got sleeved on 3/31/15 by Dr. Coon and I do feel good, I have more energy today than I've had in a long time. I've been able to get down about 4oz. Of liquids for breakfast lunch and dinner...and getting my water intake. But I'm having a very tough time with gas and the gurgle that comes along with every sip I take. So just curious how many oz. U are able to get down and what you have felt so far.

Anyone use him? I'm going next week for a consult

 I am going to have this done next month (8-08) Could someone tell me what was the wrost part of surgery? And should you give yourself a bout a week to 2 weeks to get over it?
-
Hi everyone! I'm 11 days out of from surgery, I had the Gastric Bypass and I'm feeling a little frustrated because I haven't lost anymore weight since that first week of surgery! I'm only down 15lbs. Am I doing something wrong? I feel kind of discouraged! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Yes, I travel overseas most of the year (I'm only in the US 3 months during the year). I bring in my luggage or have my preferred protein powder shipped. Other than post-workout shakes I get the rest of my nutrition from regular food.

I also had to do the 6 month diet for my insurance, and I went to the dietician on the bariatric team who will be adivising me on pre and post-op diet. For a small fee ($35 in my case) she set up the program and she documented my weight every two weeks. I finally finished it in mid January and she sent me paperwork to take to my PCP to sign off and mail back. Then it went to insurance. I have been waiting 3 weeks for insurance approval (seems longer than the 6 month diet). My PCP sent me for a stress test and echocardiogram (I work for Cardiologists, so I had them done at work--no out-of-pocket charges, just what insurance paid). If you have picked out a surgeon, check with their office and see if the dietician will supervise the 6 month diet for you. Good luck.
