    Liquid diet

I have been on the two week liquid diet since Nov 14th surgery is the 28th and I agree its hell. Not so much because of the no food, i have adjusted to that pretty much but he sweetness of the shakes geez, i couldn't do it anymore so i go the unflavored protein powder and am just mixing it with water. I cannot do another sweet shake ughhhh. I m so grateful surgery date is in two days.
  2. One of my tipping points was when we went to a fancy italian restaurant for a family dinner and i barely fit in the booth so embrassing! I am scheduled for gastric sleeve in two days, Nov 29th. I have been on the two week liquid diet since Nov 14th and i am so ready!!!

    September surgery buddies!!

Hi I’m 17 days post op of having gastric ballon fitted… I’m still on shakes and soups… anything else I sick up?? Does this get better and when roughly? I go away in 3 weeks and really want to be able to eat normal food?? I’m debating of having it removed? Any help would be appreciated thank you
  4. Yes . It is harder then I thought it would be to change that habit of late night eating. So I now have resolved myself to saving about 200 calories to my late night snacking. I have also returned to making sugar free jello and having that as a snack or having a banana . I have also reduced my portions to 250- 300 g . It was eating puree just so I could eat larger portions. While also not pureeing my foods anymore. It is helping and starting to embrace and modify my old habit. Work with it and not let it become my burdin. Also this week I am now back to loosing weight again. I'm entering my 10 week post op. Pre op 2 week before 265bls Surgery day 250 lbs Current weight 225 lbs That's 40 lbs. In 21/2 months and I am happy and healthier and looking forward to continue on my journey to better health and weight loss .

    December surgery

I was told by my doctor/ team that I couldn't drive for about a week and while in the car to have a soft pillow to help ease the pain while wearing the seat belt. I would suggest to still talk to your doctor/ team and see what they have to say after your surgery to make sure everything is okay with your healing process.

    October 6tj Surgery update?

Thank you so much sweet girl... I totally understand the frustration. I even called the doctor multiple times to make sure something wasn't wrong with my stomach or that the surgery didn't go wrong or something like that cuz I was so confused on why I was eating perfectly and not losing any weight... But it but past about 2 weeks ago and I've lost 14 lb since then. So hold on there's hope

    December surgery

I’m interested to know this as well - I have the same surgery date and was planning after my two week check in to go stay with my parents roughly 3 hours away until the new year. I know they cautioned us about seat belts while our incisions were still healing but that’s all I can recall.

    December surgery

Any folks with a December surgery date traveling for Christmas? Mine is on the 5th and I want to make a 3 hour drive to visit family for the holidays. It’ll be about 18 days after my surgery. Any insight on traveling after surgery?
  11. I fully understand. The psychological aspect of all of this can be rough to handle & many ignore it. I'm in a support group with Kaiser, we meet/talk every week & that helps me a ton. I truly feel being in a positive headspace is just as important as our dietary discipline
  12. I'm 30 year old frmale with PCOS. Mh surgery was March 1st 2022 so by Dec 1st this year I was I was 9 months post op and I've only lost about 35lbs. 3rd and 4th week stall

stalls usually last 1-3 weeks, so it should break soon. Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale if it's screwing with your head. It'll break and you'll be on your way again..
  14. Hey yall, I had vsg on Halloween. Lost weight fairly easily the first 3 weeks. But that 3rd week and now the 4th week the scale has not moved. I know from what I read it is normal but it's been 2 weeks now and I am worried. I have tried different things to restart it like okay maybe I need to count every thing that I eat and did that then, okay maybe I need to eat more so my body will stop freaking out and tried that. However, nothing worked haha. I am getting all required protein and water and keep it low carb. I was eating like 250 calories and day then bumped it up to around 500 for a couple days. And when I added more carb still nothing happened. So, today I decided I'd try to walk for 30 mins which I did. Hoping the scale moves. Any suggestions?!!! I really want to succeed...

    Questions about MMJ use.

I dont smoke myself but my friend smokes and she has gastric bypass done 3 years ago, she said she waited until she was on the full diet mainly because she wanted to make sure she got use to the amounts she could eat, the amount of times including snacks everything just because she didn't want to get high near a meal time and tale a few bites to many... she figured once her was in a routine of all that it would be easier for her to maintain her portions and smoke as needed, her biggest fear was taking even 2-3 more bites then supposed to because that made her hurt, uncomfortable and sometimes throw up, and she was afraid of eating faster then she was supposed to because her time is off when she's high and that causes the same symptoms as too much food for her.... She saids she's been smoking again for a few years now, and would just suggest you be very careful when you start back up because even if you feel you have everything under control now, and don't normally get certain types of highs your whole body system is changing not just your stomach.... her highs changed after and you just need to watch for that, and be very careful when your stomach is still healing. Other then that everyone is different and handles things differently, if you try and you do fine great if you try and feel you need to wait longer by all means do what's best for you [emoji6] Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. Looking for folks to follow and build with who are o a similar surgery timeline. I’m getting the sleeve on December 5. Let me know if you’d scheduled similarly and would like to share experiences and support here. Please feel free to introduce yourself in the comments. I’ve included my own intro below. ABOUT ME: I’m Sarah, a 40yo woman from nyc. I have a senior level professional job as a consultant and work from home most days of the week. I hate failing and I think that’s why weight has been such a hindrance for me, it’s feels like a personal failure. Im pretty active and close my Apple Watch rings most days. I love to swim and do swim laps 30-60 minutes/day - 4-5/days a week. Outside of swimming I love to read, wander the hiking trails in Central Park, volunteer for campaigns and causes I care about, writing, and travel anywhere are everywhere in spite of dreaded airline seats :) My WLS decision: I’ve been overweight most of my life but for a few years after a prior 120lb weight loss associated with disordered eating about 10 years ago. Needless to say most of that weight was gained back in recovery and then some yo-yoing down 50 and up 60 every other year to follow. I imagine many of you can relate to this story. Though I’ve thought about wls surgery for sometime my blood panels and other levels were still in healthy range only my weight was an outlier. But then COVID came and especially terrified me - I was scared if I caught it I would be at risk to lose my life. I made efforts on my own to lose weight and like past attempts I shed 50lbs and was really good for 6 months but then something happens at work and I prioritize that above myself and before I know it I’ve gains it back. This last year I found myself of the gain side of the yo-yo and for the first time being afraid to sit in some chairs, after break a plastic deck chair. I noticed I was keeping myself in bc I was disgusted with myself, holding myself back from dating, from living, and carrying myself with little confidence, with little to look forward to. The tipping point: I went to my nieces dance recital and could barely squeeze into the auditorium seat. I needed to make a permanent change. Two months later I had my first consult for surgery and here I am ready Dec 5 surgery.

    Meds and water

Hi y’all! I’m about 3 weeks post op and it’s been going pretty well. I did have a question - I have to take my meds with food but I need water to take them. How do I do that and still accomplish the not drinking with a meal? I’ve been trying to just do minimal sips. If I take without food I get really sick. Any advice?

    September surgery buddies!!

I thought we were supposed to stay away from foods with strings (celery, broccoli stalks) that might be hard to digest until 3 or 6 months? Not sure if clementines/ oranges fall into that category, but I have avoided them out of fear. Maybe that is one of the foods that are at the 6-month mark? What does your surgeon or nutritionist say? I would love to hear, as clementines are a favorite of mine, too! Good luck!

    Turkey neck?

gobble gobble! *raises hand* member of the turkey neck club here! im 4 yrs post..i've tried lots of things to minimize my turkey neck: massage, facial/jaw exercises, creams/lotions, micro-needling, IPL, botox...all of which made little to no lasting difference (at least none that i could see). i figure i have a neck lift or face lift sometime in my future, but ill get to that when i get to it. im not really keen on doing any more surgery and i can live with it for now. i mean, i am getting up in years so even if the weight loss didn't do a number on my skin, age will. i will echo the sentiments mentioned above about things shifting around a little as time goes on. my neck (in my opinion) was way worse looking immediately after weight loss phase than it does now (not to say its so great now, but at least its "better" looking...see pic below...i have these 2 vertical lines always there, which become more prominent when i laugh or grimace). i do have an appointment for a series of "morpheous 8" sessions in the upcoming months as a last ditch effort to improve the look of my neck skin, so we'll see. also, re: hair: i chopped it all off at around 3-4 months-post into a pixie cut cuz i was sick of vacuuming the CARPETS of hair accumulating on my bathroom floor. not sure if it made me look any less old though...my gauntness at the time did all that for me lol. but if my experience or the experiences of others i've read on here can attest, with time, we all stop looking like dead man/woman walking EVENTUALLY. Good luck!

    Liquid diet and coffee

Best to check, I was not allowed caffeine in my preop or 4 weeks after. But post op I'm allowed decaf. Luckily I gave it up in the summer before even thinking about surgery, decaf is not for me. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    September surgery buddies!!

Does anyone else still have foods that they can't eat well? I'm so sad that chicken and apparently turkey are still an issue for me. I can eat the deli version of them so it makes no sense to me and its frustrating. I also am having a slight issue with clementines/halos. Its my newest favorite snack, which of course usually changes weekly. I eat about 2 or 3 of them in a sitting, they are about 2 inches across so smaller then usual. I eat them little section by section so I don't think I'm eating them too fast but I get a burning like stomach acid. I have the bypass so I don't think its the acid from me but maybe the halos are too acidic for my new stomach? I take a tums and it goes away and no other issues, so of course I still eat them lol. I hope I'm not being stupid and hurting myself though.

    My VSG

a lot of people feel cold all the time after surgery. For some it's temporary, for others it's permanent. Some of it is probably due to you have less "insulation" than you did before, but because that cold feeling can sometimes start within weeks of surgery (before most people have lost much weight), I suspect something about the surgery affects your inner thermostat, too. In my case, it was temporary - but some people are always freezing and have to wear extra clothes!

    Turkey neck?

I'm 3 and a half months past surgery and I've lost almost 39 pounds, which I'm very happy with. Prior to surgery, I did have a hint of a double chin, and now that it's going away, I'm getting a bit of a "turkey neck" instead. Meaning, there's some loose skin there and a couple of vertical lines I can see in the mirror and in photographs. Also, if I shake my head, my neck wobbles back and forth. Is this something that can go away as I lose more weight, or am I stuck with this look unless I have plastic surgery? Has anyone experienced this and found some solution? Are there any less invasive procedures like lasers or peeling that actually work? Also, I'm losing hair like crazy and I had planned to cut my hair to make it look thicker and healthier. My hair is currently about 15-20 cm past my shoulders (6-8 inches) and I had planned to have it cut to shoulder length or maybe even shorter for Christmas. But now I worry that shorter hair will make my wobbly neck all the more visible. I have wavy hair, so I also worry that shorter haircuts may look like "old lady" perms. Any thoughts or experiences with good haircuts that can hide or minimize a turkey neck and still look good ?
