I’m having a revision from sleeve to bypass on July 5th. I had a hard time with protein shakes when I had the sleeve, they tasted so chalky. Can anyone recommend protein shakes from Bariatric Pal that are good and not chalky tasting?

One week post Bypass and I'm allowed to add eggs, hummus, cottage cheese, mashed beans and yogurt to my liquids. I ate an egg this morning. It was DELICIOUS. No problem. And I've been queasy in the past. Hope they go well for you!

Yes and the problem is that people like me may have been counting on having at LEAST the same restriction we went into having to do a revision. This sadly isn't the case and so confusing to get my head around. It irritates me even more that I had picked this surgery to begin with and went with the surgeons advice to do the sleeve. Had I done this surgery first I more then likely would not have gotten the erosive esophagitis and I would have the restriction this bypass came with as a virgin surgery. I don't see how people do this as a way to lose regain, I truly don't coming off a sleeve and I understand why the girl who started this post is upset about all the weight she has to try and lose with no restriction. I mean really what is the point ? She is doing it all on her own as far as I am concerned.

Hi Koko! I am having bypass on July 6th. My first date was May 18. We are close now! Good job on losing weight in quarantine. I gained around 7😕 What surgery are you having? -
Just found this site and am super pumped! My surgery is on the 23rd of June and I am having a gastric bypass. I can't wait to be on the other side of surgery and get off these optifast shakes, but it is so worth it!

Expected limitations in first few months of recovery?
perfektlynrml posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. I am concerned about the limits I need to place on myself during recovery. My daughter is pregnant and I am supposed to throw her a baby shower about three months after I have the gastric bypass. Am I out of my mind? Should I have someone else do the baby shower? I’m happy to pay for everything I just fear I won’t have the stamina to carry out the duties of baby shower hostess. Any suggestions? -

Hate bypass
Ashley.Sheridan replied to DesperateEC's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Ok, that makes more sense. My friend had a revision from lapband to sleeve and says she can eat way more than when she had her lapband. she was having issues with food getting stuck all the time. Definitely seeing how everyone is so so different. -
Fix the obstruction AGAIN!!! I am assuming, speaking w/ the original surgeon this morning, that the CT Scan shows a partial obstruction - The surgeon last week - his collegue in his office, said he fixed the scar tissue, which he believed to be causing the issue - only last 2 days, so here I am. Nothing to do with the sleeve, as I was revised to a RNY Bypass. I am vomitting - not necessarily nauseated ... it just comes on very fast... it's not food related - its bile, intestinal I guess... some sort of reflux, is what I'm being told. How the food passes and the bile comes back up and no the food, I don't get it at all ... I'm so confused. You're right - I'm not in the best of shape currently, fighting this - do I wanna do this in another month or so if it. doesn't go away on it's own - not really!!!! I'm not saying I'm in denial - I know something has to get done - but 3x now in a month to be under anesthesia.. I want to feel well like I did about a week out - My son is supposed to get married in September, do I really want to feel this crappy and maybe have issues come August.. I'm just upset and venting, I guess ty for listening to me ramble! *and thanks, I know, people have their own opinions and they get keyboard fingers.. like you said, let them, I'll ignore HIM!~~ * I'll keep ya up to date!

Hey guys, Newbie here, had my bypass done in Brazil, on the 11th last Thursday. Still on clear liquids and let me say they do not have the amount of stuff we have in the USA. I wish we had protein water and yummy soups. Thank goodness I have my mom to make me broths!!! but I was also worried because liquids are going down not a problem! Anyone else have pain near their spleen!! -

July 2020 Surgery anyone?
IWantTheDream replied to IWantTheDream's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you have Barrett’s before you had the sleeve done? Because I have a very small area with it but they are doing the sleeve on me anyway? I want the sleeve but have wondered if it’s should have been bypass. -

nads64 replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. I’m scheduled for a revision from the sleeve to RNY on July 17th due to Barrett’s Esophagus. I’m hoping to learn some things from your experiences and share some of mine also. To all those who just recently had surgery, I hope you are all doing well and have a great recovery! Im looking forward to the support that maybe we can all give to one another :) -

it's actually WAY more common for people not to make it to goal than it is for them to lose too much weight. Average weight loss for a bypass is 70% of your excess weight. I made it to a normal BMI, but only 10-15% of people do. So....it's not likely. Besides, even if you're one of the few who loses too much, you can always stop the loss by increasing your calories. -

My concern is that if I do the bypass, I will lose more then I need to. That the reason I was leaning towards the sleeve. I guess it’s best to wait for my endoscopy and see how that factors into the procedure I need. -

I did the bypass specifically because I had GERD before I had surgery, and I didn't want to risk it getting worse. RNY often improves if not outright cures GERD, whereas VSG can make it worse (it doesn't always - and it only happens to a minority of people, but it's a significant enough minority that surgeons will often recommend that heartburn sufferers go with the bypass). I've been very happy with the bypass. -
ESG Scheduled for June 24- Anyone else?
Hop_Scotch replied to jenlp88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a ESG in Oct 2018 and you will from my signature that I had a revision to a surgical sleeve in Mar 2020 as most of my sutures had come undone. There are a number of people that have had good success with ESG and a number didn't have success. Some failures were due to lack of doctor technique/skill and knowledge, lack of compliance, and for some regardless of how well their compliance or how well the surgeon did the ESG the sutures just didn't hold. There aren't too many people on bariatricpal with ESG currently so if you are on facebook there are a few ESG groups, one large group (mostly Americans) and a smaller ESG failure group (mostly Australians). My recovery from ESG was relatively easy, I had some rolling stomach cramps the first couple of days. Follow your post-op guidelines as exact as you can, don't go over volumes specified you don't want your sutures to loosen. -

I’m 5’ 3/4” and I’m in the Pre surgery stage. I was originally thinking the sleeve as well but I have a feeling the bypass may be what the surgeon recommends. I’m waiting on all my records to get sent to them so they can schedule my consult. I’ll keep you updated on what they tell me. -
JUNE 2020 BYPASSERS
mrsgrijalva1124 replied to cowgirlcullen's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Had removal of lapband and bypass surgery on the 11th. I seem to be doing ok for the most part. I’m on my 4 day of clear liquids and can move to full liquids on Thursday. I just ordered some Protein water to help with the lack of protein during the clear liquid stage so we shall see how that goes. -
Had my surgery (Bypass) on June 11th.

Changes that are needed to be successful
New&Improved replied to INEEDABUDDY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well personally for me I believe it is largely a mental thing to be successful you have to be 150% into the new way of life, new way of thinking... you have to be ready to completely change and fight all the temptations.. You need to be doing as much research as possible before choosing your surgery.. I spent months learning about all the different procedures before choosing the bypass.. The not eating after 8PM really depends on when you go to sleep...
