I am sorry you are going through all of this, I can relate. The best advice I can give you is be kind to yourself, keep up with or increase your exercise and drink drink drink drink!!!! You will be too busy peeing to eat!!! If the worst case scenario happens and you gain 10, 20, 30 pounds, it just means your band has been working the way it should and it is on vacation. When your rest break is over and you get the band functioning again you will simply become a bandster again and will lose the gained weight. Hang in there. I wish you well,Mimi

Kaiser Nor.Cal

. Oh okay , I'm not really sure about their policies .. But mine went pretty fast. I got my referral on June 3 had orientation June 11- was sleeved on August 12 because I had to wait a month for my pysh eval because he only work 3 days a week there so it might have been sooner that's not bad at all compared to what I thought it was going to take. I've read a few different posts that said Kaiser requires a 12 week nutritional class and you have to lose 10% of your current weight before you can have the surgery. Congrats on your journey! -
Garbanzo Beans

This website has some great seasoning ideas! https://www.thisgrandmaisfun.com/roasted-chickpeas-recipe/ But it seems like different recipes roast them differently. I personally just rinse them off, let them air dry for a few minutes, put them on a parchment paper, use spray olive oil to coat, season them, and shake the pan every 10 minutes while in the oven. I usually bake them at 400 degrees for approx. an hour. You will find if you like them crispier or not. Greek "No Pasta" Salad Dressing- 2 tbsp. lemon juice 2 tbsp. red wine vinegar 1/4 cup of olive oil 1/4 tsp oregano 1/4 tsp Greek Seasoning (I bought this from Walmart) Veggies- Cherry Tomatoes (halved or 4ths) Sliced Kalamata olives Chic peas Cucumber Edamame Red Onion Feta Cheese -
I had my sleeve on 4/28. 10 days after surgery I hit a stall. Its been 3 weeks now and I have lost 1 pound in that time. I lost 27 pounds in the first 10 days. I know that is a lot for 1 month however when you can't eat much of anything and you exercise and its still not coming off it becomes very stressful. I know that lots of people go thru the same thing but it seems that for most of you it doesn't last this long. I'm having a very hard time staying positive. Any help would be appreciated.

Banded yesterday at NYU Medical Center.
Phranp replied to libriteen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations and welcome to the club! I was banded on June 15th. Unless you had a fill during surgery (some, but not many I've heard of, do) you will not feel restriction until your band is filled -- and that may take a few fills, depending on your doctor. I have not experienced restriction with liquids. But I must say that this morning I had a Protein Drink before going to work and had planned to eat a piece of fruit for Breakfast, but I do not have the appetite for it now. Too full. I had my 3rd fill this past Friday. I now have 4.5 cc's in a 10 cc band. It is only with this last fill that I am feeling any restriction at all. Keep in mind what we read on this forum all the time: the time right after surgery is for healing, not for losing weight (although you will probably lose some ). You are very lucky to have the single incision. I have 4! All the best to you! -

I need to loss about 10 more but I have no willpower so probably will stay right here at 154. Where did you go for surgery? Are you having any problems? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Vsg'ers Can't Gain Weight Back As Fast As Gastric Bypass'ers?
MINI-Me replied to Ssilian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to VST! I'm just over 2 years out & experienced my first gain since surgery over the holidays. I've never had a gastric bypass, but I know people who have. Of the three I know, all have gained back a substantial amount of weight. Mine was only 10 pounds, but it could easily have been more if I didn't recognize the issue and refuse to continue to eat junk. My best advice is to use the first year or so to really retrain yourself to eat "right". Allow yourself some small treats, but don't make them a habit. Learn to cook meat and protein in ways that are very healthy and satisfying. I am a HUGE chocolate freak & have virtually no ability to say no. Unfortunately, I feel very little restriction with candy & I can go through a lot before I feel "satisfied". I'm not saying this to discourage you. Just take advantage of your tool and learn how to eat the right way. We've spent so many years doing it wrong, it takes a while to get it right. And yes, I heard a lot of the same commnents. I reminded people that obese was obese and that I had failed on years of dieting. This was the best thing I've ever done for myself. My signature says that it saved my life - I really mean that. Again, welcome! -
At 8 weeks I was pretty much unable to over-indulge. Now at 10 months I can a little. I suggest you do what you have been doing which is protein first, then filling the edges with healthy things. We usually have a couple healthier vegetable dishes and a tiny bit of mashed potato won't hurt anyone. Just eat the turkey and veggies. They're good for you.

Has anyone tried/is trying the Couch to 5k? (If not, what exercises do you do?)
hiccupingduck replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay, so before I had surgery I did c25k. I didn't do it the regular way, though. None of that robotic voice. I did Zombies, Run 5k. It's an app on your phone that helps you train for 5ks. It's kind of an extension of the original app Zombies, Run which is just as awesome. Why is it different? It tells a story. You are literally a character in a story. Not only are you running, but you'll do a few seconds of skipping, some squats, heel lifts, all to get yourself conditioned as well. When I did it, my stamina was amazing. I found myself running for ten minutes or more at a steady pace. You can also put your own music to it which makes it even better. I totally recommend it. Even though I'm three weeks post-op, I did week one over because it is so light (walk for 10 minutes, slow jog for 15 seconds, walk 1 minute...repeat). -
Newbie-A Little About Me :)
rosehips replied to ditto88's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How are you? Ya know, a person can't be perfect on the PRE op, if we could we wouldn't need the surgery. Once you have the surgery you hopefully will not turn to food during those emotional times. I use to turn to food at the drop of any stress/conflict in my life. The reason I don't turn to food post surgery is because something has happened in me that makes me feel like I am "divorced" from food. There are so many rules, ie: can't drink for 30 min after eating, chew, chew, chew. I still get a little nausea at 10 weeks post op but I am glad cause it makes me not want to eat. I think I get nausea because I eat too fast, I am struggling, how can a person make 4oz of food last 20-30 minutes??? Once you get this surgery everything will change, and since you know you eat emotionally support groups are important for us to reduce this component for our long term success. Hang in there -
I also have low vitamin D levels that my neurologist discovered a year and a half ago. My level showed me at a 10! Normal I believe is over 35. This is very common in most Americans to not have the proper vitamin d level. I take 5,000 IUs everyday over the counter. I just have my levels check last week and it's finally up to 55 after a year and half of taking that much. Vitamin d also helps neurological health. Everyone should take a supplement because a one a day doesn't have enough. If you are pre-op I would check with your surgeon about continuing to take a multivitamin vitamin E slows down healing time and should be discontinued at least 10 days prior to surgery. But double check with what your doctor recommends! Good luck everyone!

I agree with you Elisabeth and I have pretty much set the same mini goals - 10 lbs a week and I'll be thrilled. As of this morning, I am down 13.6 and surgery was a week from yesterday. I know once I start on real food, that the weight loss will probably slow down a bit; however I intend to take full advantage of it for as long as I can. I'm starting my walking regime today and will be glad when I can start on weight resistance and other exercises.:001_smile: Keep up the good work both of you.

Perimenopause
southernsoul replied to Tina Naillon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tina, I just turned 49 & have been perimenopausal for about a year. My periods got out of control & unpredictable, so I had a Mirena IUD put in & that helped a LOT. I was sleeved on June 19 & I'm doing really well. I have no idea when full-blown menopause will start, but I hope I can lose all the weight I need to before then. If your peri is just beginning, do you think that your stall may just be hormonal & the weight will start up again at some point? The word "impossible" seems like a big leap to make, but then I'm not a doctor. Good luck! -

Hello, I am 5"1, my highest weight 256lbs, currently 220 lbs, have been fighting diabetes and up/down weight for over 10 years . I was able to get off insulin 5yrs ago, but still take these big horse diabetic pills daily.. and still have a problem with eating right, which I can feel the after effects of eating too much sugar/carbs. I am still on the fence as to gastric bypass or sleeve, because the bypass has high success rate 90 percent to put diabetes in remission, but it also in the most dangerous ..This Tuesday 5/20/14 I go for my surgeon visit ,psych eval. and nutrition visit total of 3 hours. If I am considered a good candidate they will give me a surgery date. I am really nervous about the surgery. I have been lucking enough to have had a lot of hospital stays in my 43yr old life. But, I will keep you posted on how it goes and my journey, thanks a lot for the post. It is good to know that someone else is can understand my journey. -
3 days out, remorseful, worried and depressed
krissyfattofab replied to Jamesarwin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 8 weeks post op today. The first 4 weeks were pretty hellish. Dealing with emotions, lack of energy, wanting to eat and not being able to, regret - all of it. Between week 4 & 5 things started to turn around. I haven't felt any regret or sadness since then. My energy is back with leaps and bounds. Just Friday I completed a difficult 10 mile hike. I'm down 70 pounds since October 24, 2016 when I started my pre op process. -

Got a date...anyone else having surgery October 7th?
Luvin_Life125 replied to hharrison43's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am trying my best to get added to my surgeons schedule on 10/7. I won't have a confirmation until Tuesday or Wednesday. I ordered a ton of different samples from Nashua Nutrition. I think it is close to 20 different brands and flavors so I have plenty to try right after surgery. They offer samples of almost everything they sell for under $2 each. I will check in after I have a confirmation of my date and hopefully I will share the day with you!
