    2-1/2 Weeks

So Happy that my surgery is only 2-1/2 weeks away!!! I have been working on getting my house clean this week and today and man till today I didn't realize how much my weight holds me back. I did most of the cleaning this week and today I just swept the rug up in my hallway upstairs cause it's a low pile rug and I wanted to get all the fuzzy's up and my vacuum is a POS, so I did that and it's only about 15 feet long then swept it down the stairs which there is only 10 stairs with a little landing in the middle and I am sweating like no other and now I just want to take a shower cause I feel like crap? So I don't think I am getting much more done today. I can't believe just how far I let myself get, and how much it holds me back. I am lucky I have a wonderful boyfriend that will help me out with the house cleaning and keeping it up, and my kids well they will when they realize what I just went through after the surgery. They don't know yet, cause I don't want them telling their father or mostly their fathers girlfriend, she thinks I take drugs to loose weight, but i am the biggest anti drug person I know. I don't drink alcohol, and I definitely don't do drugs. So I have decided that I won't tell them till the day before. I just got my paperwork in from the doctor yesterday confirming my date and time for my appointments coming up and I am super excited for all this to begin. I have to go to the hospital where I am having the procedure done on the 4th at 9:30 and then to my doctors right after I am done there, then start my 2 week diet the 5th, and then on the 19th I need to be at the hospital at 6 am for a 9 am surgery. I am going to have to figure out what I will do with my kids that morning so that I can get them off to school, but I am sure my mom will help me out. So I am ready and nothing is stopping me now. I hope that everyone that has their surgeries coming up in march and in the future good luck!!! I know much this means to me, so I know how much this must mean to you too!!

    Band to sleeve

@@josiek1988 In my case, I didn't have "classic" symptoms like slippage or an infection at the port site. The first sign I had was a return of my acid reflux. I had it before banding and it went away for about 2 years but then it came back. That happens to a lot of folks so no one seemed concerned. The second symptom (which no one thought was band-related at the time) was a horrible sharp pain that started in my side and radiated to my back. It would last about 3-4 days, then go away for a few weeks, then come back. Everyone thought it was muscular but I knew it wasn't, it was deeper and it was debilitating - it hurt to do anything active (I could no longer run), heck even going over a bump in the road while driving caused agony. I had every test known to man -xray, CAT scan, MRI, dye tests, endoscopy, colonoscopy - you name it. Nothing. I think they started to think it was psycho-somatic. FInally during a barium swallow my surgeon saw a small pocket of air but said it was nothing to be concerned with and couldn't be causing the pain. Eventually I just stopped complaining about it and it lessened over time. I kept getting band fills and would feel restriction on some days but others I could eat anything without issue. I slowly started regain weight - I assumed it was because I couldn't work out. Then one weekend I came down with a high fever and what I thought was the flu and ended up in the hospital for 10 days. Whatever infection I had made me septic, my kidneys had shut down. I got so dehydrated I ended up with a bowel obstruction and that is really what kept me in the hospital for so long, waiting for that to clear up. While I was there more tests showed my band had completely eroded into my stomach. The reason I was feeling restriction sometimes was that not only had my band eroded, but my stomach actually birfucated and grew around the band so the food had two paths to go down, one banded and one not. I am convinced that mysterious infection was either caused by the eroded band or my immune system had been so weakened by it, I couldn't fight strep or whatever it was I had (they never figured it out). Long story short, symptoms may seem unrelated because pain may manifest in other areas, or because of secondary infections. If you feel anything abnormal a simple swallow study and an upper GI can help determine if the band has slipped or is eroding. it is a foreign object and erosion is often caused by your body trying to reject it.
  4. I used Chantix 3 years ago to quit smoking... worked amazingly well! You take it for a week and keep smoking, then you quit smoking. I was fine! No cravings or anything like before... I did have habbit moments- in the car on a long car trip, sitting on the porch, after a meal... times I usually smoked I felt like I should be but it wasn't that I needed it. I actually stopped taking it after about 4 weeks because I just kept forgetting to take it (as I hadn't smoked in weeks it wasn't on my mind) and I still haven't smoked since. Side effects that were a pain... VERY nauseous on it. I never got sick but I would spend a good hour after each pill thinking I was about to. Strange dreams. Very vivid. Very odd and disturbing, not nightmares, but dreams that make you nervous and make you think there's something wrong with you. But a few weeks of that was worth it to not smoke anymore!!! Also glad to not smoke since it's about $10 a pack in NY now!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck! You'll do great

    Newbie here...

Haven't had a chance to check in lately, but had my 1 week follow-up on 6/25 (8 days post surgery) and got a good report from the surgeon. Cleared to progress diet as tolerated and head back to the pool with the kids! Went back to work on 6/24 with no issues...I would have been very bored had I taken the suggested 4 weeks off (I did block my schedule for two weeks...just went in a week earlier). Been ramping up activity with biked riding now. Did a nice 20 mile ride outside on Sunday and trying to get 10 miles on the spin bike every morning. Eager to start lifting weights and maintain some muscle tone, but that will wait a few weeks although I have no pain in abdomen or suture sites.
  6. I am only 2 months out and can honestly say that I am not over the food obsession yet. The mental has been much more difficult than the physical for me. I am not doing any counseling yet but my primary doctor has suggested it, more so for handling stress but I am sure I can bring up this issue as well. My advice would be: if you are craving something, have a couple of bites and move on. Your stomach will not allow you to eat a quantity that will do super damage. You may be over your calories or carbs for one day, but you get right back on it the next day. I have decided that I can have an ounce or two of lemoncello liquor on Friday/Saturday nights, but will not drink any other nights unless it is a special occasion. On the weekends, I am also having a treat if I want one. Yesterday it was a few bites of a brownie with cream cheese frosting. Today it was part of a mocha freeze from costco. I am so sick of chocolate right now, I doubt I will have any more for quite a while. As for the extra time, I really haven't had that much yet cause it takes so dang long to eat 2 ounces! I really wish I could spend 5 or 10 minutes eating and then move on to something more exciting. :smile1: You probably will need to find something fun or productive to do, instead of grazing in the kitchen like we used to. I am so glad to hear your sister is supportive! My sister has been great, altho I didn't tell her until the night before I left for San Diego. She was concerned for my safety and well being, but certainly did not try to talk me out of it. My 24 yr old daughter, on the other hand, still thinks I am crazy. But then, she knows it all :sad0:!! Good luck to you! It is a wonderful tool.

Well, I've been yelled at today.

NOT AGAIN since the other days post #45......... the saga continues, a day in the life of...... i showered, dressed etc walked around the house i know i'm forgetting something, i know i'm forgetting something, i ........... eeek i finally remembered i had a PCP appt at 10:30 (it was 9:15) running around like a chicken without a head (get the visual!!) called dr office to say i might be a little late for my 10:30 she said your appt is at 10:00 not 10:30 i told her i might be a few minutes late i know her well, and she nicely said if i can't make it by 10:00, that's ok but we'll have to reschedule really was understandable, but i needed to see him then!! i was "kindof" speeding "a LITTLE - "kind of" like being a LITTLE pregnant ) still driving carefully - hmmm like that women above who was careful too!! i got to doc 10:00 on the DOT receptionist smiled i sat down and waited, and waited, and waited and........35 minutes later!!! too funny, i should have known you "usually" have to wait at docs which really is understandable and ok so, why did i drive quickly like a mad man to the docs office LOL ya got me babe!! film at 11:00 LOL kathy
  8. I went to my orientation last night. I know my insurance and the group require a 10% weight loss. So I started dieting and exercising to lose the weight. Of the 32 pounds I lost 9 so far. The problem is, they said the 10% weight loss is based on your first appointment and not what I weighed when I saw my primary. Has anyone else been told not to do weight loss until your first appointment? They are booking out 3 weeks and I they require hat you think through the week end and wait till Monday to make the initial appointment

When to go back to work?

I took two weeks and I am glad I did! I was still trying to figure out what to drink and when and how much and it was good to get that down prior to working! I also work 45 minutes away and put in 10 hour days so I was glad to have those two weeks!!

When to go back to work?

I work from home so I did not have to deal with a commute but I do work 4 -10 hours taking calls. I had surgery on a Wednesday and returned to work the following Wednesday. I did get up often during the day and walked for a few minutes around the apartment to loosen up and to prevent blood clots. A few days more would had been nice but I could not afford any more time office.

When to go back to work?

I am now just at the end of the first three weeks of my time off of work. My Doc prescribed 6 weeks off from work. This is the most time I have ever heard of for the sleeve, with no complications or anything. I went into work to find out if they would let me back in early (4 weeks) with the stipulation I could not lift over 10 pounds until 6 weeks... my Doc said they might allow me to go back if I could get this agreement... Well work will not do that because of workman's compensation rules. I guess Im out for the full 6 weeks! And i don't get paid for the last three.

Hi Wendy, I live in New Jersey (right on Delaware/Jersey border) and just had surgery on 7-10-08. I had my surgery at St. Francis in Wilmington, DE. My surgeon was Dr. Wynn of Chrias. Just wondering who is your doctor and where will you have the surgery? I had a wonderful experience at St. Francis, everyone was just terrific. Good luck and if you need any advice or refereces, I would be happy to help out.

What to order at a bar

I don't get. I love my wine and tequila and rum like the next person. I was having wine shipped to me a small winery in California, but when I decided on surgery I stopped the shipments. I buy the expensive tequila and rum because I like it on the rocks or straight up - not reprocessed rot gut stuff for me. 'I'm not 20 any more. I'm now 6 weeks out and focusing on getting and being healthy. I don't miss having a glass of wine, or tequila or anything. nor do I feel I need to or want to. I've been out with friends twice and on both occasions encouraged them to have their wine.... I just stuck with water. At 3 and 4 weeks your incision is still healing. Just cuz you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there. It's about 10 inches long. If the incision was on your leg, would you way it with alcohol? My surgeon recommends waiting 1 year. I may wait that long or I may not. I don't have a plan at this point. But I know this, I opted for surgery to be a healthier me. I know all the ways to cheat the system, but I'm only cheating myself. Once I have my eating in balance and I've achieved my goals then I look at enjoying a 'normal' life. So I have to ask...what is more important to you? Vodka, Wine or a better life?

  15. Just 22 more LOOOONG days until I'm finally banded. My thoughts are racing around in my head. I'm freaking a bit today, I'm nervous, and I am so anxious to get this over with. I'm ready to start my pre-op diet, this way I know I am doing something to prepare for surgery. I've been reading a lot on the "complications" board, and I have to be honest, It freaks me out a bit. I think the most thing I worry about is erosion. I read on one of the boards that 25% of banding patients will have to have thier band replaced or removed. Thats a pretty high number. But, i guess I'm hoping I'm the 75% that wont have to have anything done. I'm just nervous about everything, I think the not knowing is scary. I know a lot about the band, but everyone is different, how will I handle th band? Will I be an accessive PBer? Will I not lose weight? Will I be a failure? Will I , Will I , will I? The list goes on and on. I just don't want this surgery to be another "diet" attempt. I am so sick of failing at every diet. I always do so good, I lose 20, 30, and even 70 lbs, and everyone goes on and on how great I look, then its like I wake up one morning and gain it ALL back. Why? I still haven't figured that out. Its like I eat one thing and I put on 20 lbs. I swear, I can gain 10 lbs in a night, and I'm NOT lieing. I've done it, I swear it. I hope this time next year, I can reflect on my journey and say this was the BEST decision I had ever made. I hope to say I have lost 70 lbs, or 60, or even 50. Scale this morning 229.2 (I'm about to throw the scale away, I promise.)

    Howdy All! New Here :)

Thanks Krysty Ssilian I have 3 cats, 2 are like 12 the other is like 10. They are all crazy in their own little ways, haha.
  19. My date is a few weeks out. I originally had the Lap Band back in 2005 and went from 297lbs at surgery down to the 160's. My husband and I had been married for 4 years at that time and we had our first child who had just turned 10 months old. About 6 months after I had my band put in my husband had his put in. He lost 20 pounds to this day. At this time we are both banded. I'm consistantly in the 220's and he is over 350lbs. He has promised me if I am successful and happy with this surgery he will follow me again and have the sleeve done. We didn't have any problems with me being "successful" with the band and especially with him not being successful. We have since had another baby, so we have two kids under the age of 5 and intead of weight loss, we are much more concerned about the health we have and our ability to provide our babies with a happy and active childhood. He loved me fat, he loved me thin, he loves me fat again. I think if your connection is more than just physical and at a deep enough level then it will last. I'm not a person who goes out, I have my babies at home and I have the rest of my life to go "out" but my babies won't be babies forever. That's just my experience with the weight loss and our relationship. I wish you guys the best.

Jitters, in need of positive words

Try not to worry...you are going to be fine! My bmi at surgery was right at 40 and I think it made my recovery easier. I am so happy with the decision I made. 16 lbs down since surgery (10/25) and 33 down from starting the whole process. It will be over before you know it. You have come too far and jumped too many hoops to back out now Sent from my iPhone

My highest weight ever was 368 which was like 10 years ago. I had lost weight over the years and never regained (Atkin's etc.). So by the time I started inquiring about LapBand i was like 320. I lost 20 pounds from the time I got serious about band and surgery day. On surgery day, I was 300.5 & today I am 225. So not all of my weightloss was due to the band. Only about 75-80 pounds of it. I'm in a serious plateau right now but still losing inches. This bothers me tremendously because I want the scale to move some too. People say that is still good because means I am losing fat/gaining muscle but I'm not trying to be a body builder or anything. I just want to see 199.

Are there any Smashing Pumpkins Oct 08?

Wow you both have done FANTASTIC! As of today I'm down 103 lbs! I know I could have done better...but I've fought a lot of emotional eating to get these 103 lbs down! I think I'm up to 6.3 cc's in a 10 cc band. I'm suppose to go back Sept 1 to get a fill...but not sure I need one. I'm at the point where I've only been getting .3 cc's when I go...hate having to pay all that money just for that much...and I wonder how the heck can that much really make a difference but it does! I want to weigh 180...i'm at 238 this morning from 341...So I've got about 58 more lbs to goal! I already have a lot of loose skin ESPECIALLY at my belly...so I will definitely be having weight loss surgery. I just worry about the SCARRING!! How are yours healing? It is so nice to touch base with you and see that comparable that we've done fabulous! Keep it up Smashing Pumpkins!!
  25. Be heard many times we are thin people on the inside. Heck,'when I dream, I'm not the size I am. I'm really the size I was 19 years ago. So my question is this... After WLS, do we become a fat person in a thin body? We will always carry the scars and experiences. I even heard a friend say of another who had just had WLS, that she still thought like a fat person. So... What do you think?
