How long out of you or for Sleevers?
BigSue replied to Sandy Milner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had gastric bypass, but I went back to work 11 days after my surgery. I had surgery on a Thursday, took the whole next week off, and went back to work the following Monday (I am working from home most of the time now, but I usually have to go into the office once per week, so I went in on Monday and worked from home the rest of the week). I have a desk job and I was fine. I could have gone back the previous week if I really had to, but I was definitely better off taking the week off because it's a lot of work to get all the protein and fluids when you can only drink an ounce at a time. By the time I went back to work, I was able to drink fluids at a reasonable pace and didn't have to pay so much attention to it. I sipped water all day at work and had a protein shake for lunch and I was good. -
❤My Revision Story❤

🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 1(+) year post op check in: I was revised from VSG to RNY on July 15, 2019. My weight at the time of that surgery was 157 lbs. A finally was able to complete my 1 yr follow up visit with my team today. My current weight is 160 (really 159 but who cares 😂) When my Surgeon brought up my weight got a little nervous. I immediately panicked a little hoping he was not disappointed that I gained a few lbs. In fact, he was ecstatic. He reminded me that he did not want me to lose weight from the surgery, I was at my goal weight already and he purposefully made my bypass a length that would keep me relatively stable (sometimes I forget what the goal was while scale gazing) When I was in the 140s he wanted me to carefully watch out for too much loss. I fixed that problem 😂 Saying this to remind anyone who maybe going for a revision for further weight loss purposes to confirm the length of the bypass your Surgeon will perform. My bypass is 130, and my Surgeon usually starts Virgin bypass surgeries at 150 and I think that a relatively standard starting length. All issues that existed with the VSG have been resolved and I haven't taken GERD meds in a year, HalleluYah ! Super happy with that outcome. Everything my Surgeon set out to correct was accomplished. Good Luck everyone considering revisions ❤ -

Booty and thigh lift tomorrow! Boobies next week!
mousecat88 replied to mousecat88's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I have no clue. lol. I was just told they were 450cc implants. I had NO breast fat so I still have some loose horizontal skin. He had to suture my pec muscles really tight on the right side so it wouldn't migrate to my armpit. This resulted in the right breast looking wider. I don't think I want a revision, though. Not worth it. Everything is still healing and I have some folded skin at my lower back that looks like a second butt crack (lol) that he will have to fix in 5 months just in-office with Lidocaine. I don't think I would do a butt lift again. I'll post before and after photos of all that in 5 months. lol! I was going to go with 400cc but glad I didn't because then I'd have even more loose skin. My end result is a 34D. I almost wish I went with 500 because maybe it would have filled up ALL the loose skin. I dunno. I had a reduction from a 48H in 2017. That left me at a 46D. Then I lost weight and instead of drooping so much, I had a lot of horizontal skin, which is unusual. -
Obsessing about Plastic Surgery!!
Darktowerdream replied to ChubRub's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
@ms.sss I’m torn. It’s hard seeing myself as tiny. And thinking of wearing something that might draw attention. I live in a retirement community with my mom. I’ve lived most of my life overweight, fighting my weight, living with chronic illness and disability that only gets worse. I try to see the positive in what the surgery has given me. Something I never really had before. Some parts are still loose my knees are a bit weird. I’m not in a good place lately. I’m not depressed just not sure where I am in life. Not something I can talk about on a public forum. anyway. My measurements are 32” bust 25.5” under bust (bra band) I’d need a 28 bra size - 24” waist (I ever in my life imagined having a waist that size) 33.5” hips 16.5-17” thigh My one leg is at least half an inch smaller on the left side. My entire left side is smaller due to some aspect of my medical conditions. I haven’t bought a swimsuit I don’t know when I could go in a pool. I haven’t thought about it. My body doesn’t much like chlorine. im in a trap between people wanting me to be happier with the results of the surgery and me not knowing what my reaction is supposed to be or how I am supposed to feel. I’ve never seen myself as feminine or attractive for the entirety of my life. But like I said it’s just not things you discuss on a public forum. Is it tied to my being on the autism spectrum. Maybe. My childhood. Maybe. My chronic Illness. Maybe all those things. It just is what it is. sorry. I wish I had normal answers. It does surprise me to see the results. Maybe at some point when the last bandages come off I’ll process it better. I’m not sure ... the lowest my weight ever got was 2009 124lbs and I followed a strict low carb low calorie way of eating but it didn’t stay there. A few weeks it settled at 134lbs and stayed. Fast forward and eventually got to where I was still following the way of eating but my weight skyrocketed (again) and my gallbladder went to crap and I sought out gastric bypass surgery. I never thought I’d ever reach goal let alone this goal. when opportunity came to possibly have plastic surgery I grabbed it because I knew if I didn’t, it wouldn’t happen at all ... -

Gastric Bypass Peeps: Would you do it again?
Darktowerdream replied to Barbwired's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi 🧡 I didn’t read the other replies but I had gastric bypass surgery April 29th 2019. I started out 5’ 208+ lbs and in under a year I lost 106lbs. I do not regret that decision at all. I stick to mainly a low carb way of eating And keep daily log of my meals, protein and calories BUT I do have fruit now no dumping and I have had a little wine here and there no dumping I’ve also had a margarita (whatever option had the least sugar) and I have had Prosecco which usually carbonated is a no no but I do have energy drinks sometimes too, I let the bubbly go out a bit. I didn’t have these until I was close to goal, well I admit I did cheat with the margarita a little early but otherwise I kept to my strict way of eating and slowly added things at goal. well I’m rambling. You Feel it out as you go through the steps when you have surgery. But You won’t regret gastric bypass surgery. I didn’t and would do it again even knowing how hard it was for me with my lifelong chronic illness and disability. -
Gastric Bypass Peeps: Would you do it again?
NYJenn replied to Barbwired's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Love my bypass, would do it again in a heartbeat. Fixed my reflux. Additionally, it’s really easy to control dumping. Don’t eat high fat or high sugar foods and you’re good -
All, I am reeling! I am about 3 weeks post-gastric bypass and am shocked at how extremely depressed I am. I am physically uncomfortable, constantly nauseated, and struggling to find energy to do anything. This surgery has thrown my entire world into disarray. I feel like I need to clarify: I am a chronically optimistic person so I still don't regret the surgery (though sometimes my mind moves in that direction). I am also not even an itsy bitsy bit suicidal. I have a 4 year old and 2 year old and the thought of dying fills me with absolute dread - that dread of leaving my two children alone is a big part of why I had this surgery. My husband has been extremely supportive but suffers from chronic anxiety and depression- he is dealing with his own roller coaster right now. I need to beat this.. quickly. I don't have time for depression and all that jazz. I need tips, tricks, and any bit of mental or physical suggestions that might help me move past this extremely trying experience.

Gastric Bypass Peeps: Would you do it again?
kossde replied to Barbwired's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am almost 3 weeks post surgery - transitioning from a 12 year old lapband to gastric bypass. I lost 200 lbs on lapband and gained 120 of it back over two pregnancies. I am in shock of how ill-prepared I was for this transition. The lapband came so easily to me. I lost weight quickly, followed all the rules, etc. This time around, I am struggling to eat, sleep, take my vitamins, etc. I am severely depressed (Covid-19 doesn't help this), physically uncomfortable, and I feel hopeless. With that said, I've lost over 25 lbs in 2 weeks, I'm not having nearly as many actual eating problems as other people who had this surgery, and I know I'll get through this. I do not regret the decision at this time. -
MAY-JUNE-JULY 2020 BYPASSERS UNITE!! Veterans Welcome too!
MaybeMeow replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Gang. Popping in to boast for a moment. My Weight loss is still slow but as I mentioned before I had the short bypass (only 100cm bypassed) and expected it to a certain degree. I was told it meant less risk of dumping, hair loss, gallbladder issues and lack of nutrition. So I felt it was the right thing for me. But I admit the slower loss has been hard at times. Anyway, I am 8 week post op tomorrow and I've lost a cool 23 pounds. So... ok. But here's the boast. My daily multi-vitamin was making me nauseous. So I haven't really been taking it. No calcium either as my husband mentioned some people get kidney stones from oral calcium and I've had one and it was a nightmare. Thought I'd see what my lab results were and adjust accordingly. Well I got them back today and everything is PERFECT! In fact, my Vitamin D was low before surgery and is NOT low now. B12, Iron, all in normal range. Cholesterol is lower. All looking great. With no vitamins! So... I'm feeling pretty good about that. I don't recommend this to anyone. I'm going to search for a less heavy duty multivitamin and hope it goes down better. But hoo-ray on not compromising my health with the lack of calories and absorption. Anyway... hope everyone else is hanging in there. I'm truckin along slowly but surely. As long as I'm not stalling I feel pretty good about the day-to-day. Hope everyone else is having a particularly good day. ONWARD BYPASSERS!! -
I’m Week 4 after my band to sleeve revision and am on soft foods. I can eat a whole egg and one toast. I don’t feel full afterward but stop myself from eating as I don’t want to eat too much. Should I feel full when eating an egg and one toast? Is this normal?

WishMeSmaller replied to robsey2021's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For all of you losing a bit more slowly, just keep on keeping on! For reference, I am almost 47 years old and 5’8” tall. Gastric Bypass on 7/6/20 HW: 265 SW: 249 CW: 233; 16 pounds in about one month post op. Feeling good. Clothes fitting better and some too loose. About 600 kcal/day. 55-75 G protein per day. Excited to keep this going! ps. I only lost about 5 pounds in the first two weeks. If you have a slow start, don’t worry. Just stick with the plan and keep going. 😊 -

Hey guys, just a little something to keep you encouraged. For me, the pre-op phase was the hardest part of my journey. I am currently 9 mos. P.o. from gastric bypass. I love my tool and wish I had went forward 3 years Ago when I first started this journey. I had lots of questions, but I wanted to know what life was like after the procedure. I wanted to hear from people who were experiencing it. So, this is my info..sw 264 lbs. , cw 186 lbs. Medical issues before surgery...hypertension, diabetes, pcos, infertility, lupus, heart murmur. I currently only take a low dose hypertension pill ,but they will evaluate that at my next post-op appointment. Life is good and I have had zero complications, zero visits to the hospital after surgery. Im grateful for that! I started a YT channel ( under my name Bariatric Blondeshell) that addresses the pre op phase and what life is like for us after surgery. I hope if you check it out you will be encouraged afterwards! Keep pressing on everyone, you deserve this! -

Lap-Band removal to Gastric Sleeve
Barbwired replied to Tim C's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also had the lap band 10 years ago and loved it. I lost over 100 pounds and life was good until the gastric reflux started. It got so bad I was aspirating stomach acid into my lungs and I had to sleep in a chair. They removed all of the fluid from the band and the reflux went away and then I started on the track to get a revision to a sleeve. It seemed to me that I shouldn't have had to gone through the whole program for approval again but I did. I'm now waiting to get my surgery date finally after 6 months, which was probably a little longer because of Covid. Unfortunately having the band deflated and my gym closing (I was working out like crazy and now I've just stopped) I've gained a ton back. I'm so frustrated. Hoping to get the sleeve in 4-6 weeks, fingers crossed. -
Has anyone been diagnosed with IBS and then had Gastric bypass surgery? Did the surgery make it worse it better? No change? Thanks!

5 years post op and have huge REGRET!
RickM replied to escape_pinacolada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You certainly have been through the wringer on this, and for that I, too, am sorry to see your struggles. It does seem that a revision of some sort is called for, and a second opinion (and even third...) is certainly called for in cases like yours (or really for any revision.) My suggestion is to find a surgeon from the DS (duodenal switch) world for another opinion, as the DS is a more complex bariatric procedure that most surgeons don't offer, DS docs tend to come from the top of the class, and as the DS uses the VSG as its basis, they tend to be the most experienced surgeons around when it comes to sleeve problems as they have been doing them a lot longer than most bariatric surgeons. My first choice for discussing a problem such as yours would be Dr. Ara Keshishian, who is down in the LA area. People come from all over the country to see him on complex revisions and other bariatric problems, so he is used to doing virtual consults (at least the initial one) so you don't have to travel to get an idea as to what solutions there may be for your problem. A bit close to you would be Drs. Rabkin, Jossert or Cirangle, all in different practices in the SF area, but all from the DS world and well experienced with sleeves. It is good to hear that your doc has tried a Nissen; while not particularly new, it is somewhat unusual with the sleeve as there isn't much fundus left to plicate, so many bariatric surgeons go straight to an RNY revision as they don't know how to do the Nissen on a sleeve. I have a small hiatel hernia and talked to Dr. K about it, but it isn't appropriate for my situation, but since my symptoms are mild, it is a wait and see situation - I'm not eager to go to the RNY as it's something of a surgical dead end that removes a lot of options once you go there (but it generally works well once you do.) Good luck in working this through.... -
Made the decision, so many questions......
Jerzeegrl posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Like everyone here I have struggled with my weight my entire life. It didn't help that growing up my family fat shamed me. I became a closet eater early on, and brought that into adulthood with me. I have been on every diet out there, and as all of you here they worked for a while. I am now the heaviest I have ever been, even when I was pregnant. I am beating myself up every single day. In addition to the self esteem issues, the health issues of being overweight are a concern. I am so tired of the anxiety that I feel every time I go to the Doctor and I know I have to get on the scale. From January to March of 2020 I lost 15 pounds, I felt amazing, I was on a roll. Then Covid-19 happened, and all of a sudden I am working from home. My entire routine has changed and I am still having a difficult time finding the "right" routine. Needless to say I have gained back the 15 pounds that I lost and more. That was the moment I decided to explore bypass surgery. I made an appointment and did my research before my first appointment. I decided on gastric sleeve because I feel that is the best option for me. I have my nutritionist consult on 7 August. At the Doctor appointment, the nurse told me to start drinking 1 protein shake a day for breakfast, which is not an issue since I've been drinking protein shakes forever. My confusion comes in for the rest of the day. My surgery is 6 months out. Do I begin the Pre-Surgery diet now? 350-400 calories per meal, 150 calorie snack etc? Or should I wait until my consult with the nutritionist? Also, the nurse told me I cannot gain any weight between now and my surgery. Any advice you can provide is appreciated. 😁 -

Starwarsandcupcakes replied to escape_pinacolada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can’t believe they waited so long and you haven’t been given the option of an RNY revision. Everything you’ve said sounds like be minus the extra surgeries and time. I’ve had GERD pretty bad for the last 5 months (Pepcid and protonix with tums) and a new hiatal hernia (had one repaired with my sleeve in December 2019) and my revision surgery is in 9 days. I definitely think you need a second opinion for sure! Sorry you’re in so much pain. I really hope you get answers soon! -

escape_pinacolada posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello, I am new to this forum but I really need to warn others. I am 5 years post op from the sleeve surgery and am MISERABLE! I have also had 4 more surgeries to fix a hiatal hernia at the esophagus and stomach as well as pouches that were formed by the surgery. I have not been able to eat normally since the surgery and by normally I mean the way you are suppose to after VSG. I haven't been able to drink water without pain. My SW was 245 and now I am at 184 and losing since my most recent surgery. The recent surgery was to fix the hiatal hernia again. I was told it was a "new" way of fixing the hernia, nothing more was told to me. My pancreas was also removed at the same time. My surgery was called a Nissen Fundoplication, its pretty complicated. They use of the stomach to be wrapped around the esophagus so it won't go up into that area again. From the beginning I have had GERD very bad, it was so bad I was on 2 different medications as well as over the counter antacids so that is why the Nissen Fundoplication. It has been horrible this 5 year journey. I am getting all of my records together for a second opinion and to possibly have a revision to the RNY. This surgery was the biggest regret of my life. My life has suffered more and my relationship has also been hurt by this. I am always so tired and sick, and my husband is worried about losing me. I have also been just left to flounder. I have had numerous swallow tests and load of medications but NOTHING allows me to drink a nice glass of water, albeit a sip at a time, without pain. So in one word "YES" i regret everything about this surgery. Heather -
