How long were you on liquids before you went to the mushie stage?
loopylou replied to divaliciousdee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
We were told 2-3days clear liquids, then any liquids (and I mean anything including 'soda') for the rest of the first week, then 2 weeks mushies, and 1 week soft foods. But they served us coffee, ice cream and vitamized vegies on the second day in hospital - so really I had less than 24hrs on clear liquids and no time on plain liquids and went straight to mushies. I didn't stick to that for long either though - I was eating full meals 3 weeks out. -
How long were you on liquids before you went to the mushie stage?
Margo replied to divaliciousdee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My post-op instructions are as follows: 1 week clear liquids 2 weeks full liquids 1 week mushies then see the dietian for next step which I am assuming will be semi-solids one week then on to solids. -
How long were you on liquids before you went to the mushie stage?
Parvathi replied to divaliciousdee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My transition to solids was a 6 week phase. 2 weeks on full liquids, then started to slowly introduce mushies in. Like the first week of mushies, I could have mashed potatoes and stuff of that consistency. The second week, I could mush up canned spaghetti or have tuna mornay (which was absolutely devine!!). The 3rd week I could introduce lasagna and other caserole type dishes, as well as ground beef. The fourth week I could introduce solid meats, such as chicken, steak, etc. It seemed like hell at the time lol, but in hindsight, it showed me what I could and couldn't do and really wasn't that bad. -

What type of workout do you do and how often? I am working out in the gym twice a week and using the treadmill plus outside work at home. I know some people from the Kakauna (sp?) - Holly Glashen. I live in Minnesota by Duluth. Tammy -
Hi, my name is Michele. I am a 41-year-old female from Wisconsin. I am the mother of three beautiful children. I received my Lap Band on 01/09/07. I was lucky to find a wonderful surgeon in San Antonio, Texas who performed my surgery. I fly back down there for all my fills as I wouldn't trust anyone like I trust him. I started my reseach on the Lap Band in 2006. In late 2006 I contacted Dr. Jorge Rincon at the saweightlosscenter in San Antonio. I was very impressed with him and decided to start my journey. Now, exactly two years ago today, I am a new, healthy, happy person. I started at 305# and as of today, I am 130#; 175 pounds gone forever!!! Thank you to Dr. Rincon, Christine, Lucy, Marivonne, Doris, Mindy and all the new friends I have in my life for helping me on my journey!! Michele

hey guys i need tons of help here!! i'll just start that i am 19 years old and in college living with three other roommates. i am 5ft 9in and started at 207lbs. i am down to 165 which is awesome......but my goal weght is about 150. i have been dealing with a lot of emotional stress the past few years and i will feel finally done with all this when i reach my goal weight! anyway...... i have had 3 fills......and the third one was really tight, which was in september. i continued to lose weight but there was A LOT of food i could not eat. and that made this very hard because i would try to eat a lot of things and PB them. My roommates were kind of curious what was going on and also it stressed me out because i didn't feel like i even had the chance to make "good" or "bad" decisions with food or portion decisions. Which for me is also part of this whole thing...trying to have a moderate normal relationship with food. Now, I have been at the same weight for a good couple of months and I can eat a big variety of foods. Things still get stuck every couple of days or if i eat way too fast. So i am not losing weight and I am frustrated because i feel like I am eating a lot.....i am eating a lot. i work out every day and my metabolism is keeping up, but...... emotionally i just want to reach my goal and be so called normal. i don't know whether to get another fill or not because i don't want to be so restricted again to where I PB every day and i can't eat very many things. that makes me upset as well. i don't want my roommates wondering what's going on as well.( they obviously don't know about my surgery) ADVICE anyone please???? thanks so much- alex*

I was banded 9/29, 2 weeks and 5 days ago. I'm having trouble getting in enough Water. I don't know what to eat. Have started trying some things, carefully, and slowly. Haven't had any problems, but just couldn't take mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs and pintos & cheese, anymore! And I'm not losing!!!! Dr's office said you're not suppossed to right now, this is the month for healing, but it's frustrating just the same. I eat way less then I used to and the scale won't budge, even gained 1 lb back after starting soft stuff. I get my 1st fill 10/28, but I wish I could be losing a little by then. Dr's office suggested low carb diet, so as not to gain back what I've lost, 6 lbs preop, and 6 lbs postop minus the 1 lb I've gained back. :tt1: Now stuck. Lst week was my 1st week back at work, 12 hour shifts as a NICU nurse. So I got through that. Guess now I'll try to start walking. Maybe that will help. Thanks for "listening". Just frustrated. Feeling good though. :tongue_smilie:

Getting sleeved in T minus 4 hours.....

I'm doing good. I was released within 24 hours of my surgery. The first major bummer was that as my husband and I were on the way to the hospital - the hospital called me and asked me when I was getting there. I was told to be there by 11:30 and the surgery was at 1:30. Apparently they changed my surgery time to 11:45 and never told me. Oh thank you. So we had to wait once we got there for 3 1/2 hours since they had to let someone else go ahead of my. Surgery went well - my surgeon did a lot of extra investigating to make sure all was okay (I am his first or second Sleeve) He said I lost the equivalent of 8 drops of blood. Biggest complaint - dying of thirst. Went 36 hours before I could put anything in my mouth and I will never again take for granted how wonderful ice chips are. = ) Pain isn't bad - just the gas startles me sometimes but that seems to be getting better. I'm having a hard time keeping my liquid pain meds down - they seem to make me puke. All I"m supposed to be able to eat for the first week is broth and Jello. But just a couple of bites and I'm good. Anyways - I'm still alive and while I was there I saw a few people dealing with their complications from the lap band - I'm so glad I skipped that option and went straight to the sleeve. -
Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process. Everyone stalls, and almost every one stalls about three weeks after surgery. As others have suggested, just make sure you are getting in enough Protein and Fluid. If the numbers on the scale are driving you crazy then stay off the scale! I, too, am at 3 weeks and have stalled. I have been averaging about 65 Protein, definitely getting enough Water, and walk at least 6 miles per day and go to the gym three times a week for 40 minutes. My calorie intake has been no higher than 700 per day. I haven't lost a pound in about ten days:( Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Don't over do it on the exercise people! Your bodies just had surgey. They are healing and also adjusting to the low calories. 30 minutes 3-4 times a week is plenty. The stalls or gains may be caused by doing too much and your bodies not getting enough nutrition sending it into starvation mode. If you are not over eating, then do not over exercise either. I had a 3 week stall when I started working out. When I slowed down only doing 30 to 45 mins on weights and or walking then I started to lose again. But, I'm 10 weeks out now and I haven't lost anything this past week again. I'm okay with it because I know I could be doing better with my Water intake and Protein too. I didn't think I would have to watch my diet so much after surgery but I am still very glad I had it. The reason being... I do not constantly think about food. Fatty high carb and sugary foods make me extremely nauseous just to think about them now. Surgery has changed my way of thinking when it comes to food. That is my solution! Things will start moving again, It's all good!

Down in the dumps, wls diet sucks!
Tierra T Tij posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How do people going about dark sad feelings when doing the gastric bypass diet when you have zero friends or family who support you? I've been having this problem and it has been a struggle. I feel very alone and when I'm lonely and sad I want to eat but I know I cannot emotional eat. On top of that my wls surgery is May 15th so I cannot afford to do that. I feel like I've been feeling a million emotions at once. It's very hard for me these few weeks between not being able to eat much, only liking water and ice and it hurts to swallow due to my bad allergies, I'm just miserable! I just feel like I wish I had more people to vent to about these feelings besides my bariatric journal or my psychologist. I notice when I talk out my emotions it's better instead of feeling them because they derail me tremendously. -
4 weeks after surgery I was allowed mushies, 5th week was solid food

In August I had my last fill of .3 ccs, bringing me to 7.1 total. I felt green for a long time. Then, in December I started to throw up frequently and I had awful acid reflux in the middle of the night. I would wake up choking on acid, gross. So last week I went back to my doctor and he removed .25 ccs. Now I feel like I made a mistake because I'm hungry earlier during the day and later at night than I have been. I'm also able to eat easier, I feel like I'm not restricted enough. Does anyone know if they are able to put in .1 cc? Anyone else have this experience? I definitely don't want to throw up often and have esophageal issues, but I don't want to gain weight either. Help! (I posted this in the basics forum first, sorry if it's a repeat for you.)

Just found this app. So, I guess I'm getting a little worried. I have lost about 2 pounds in 1 week on the liver shrinking diet. It seems ridiculous. I'm not drinking very many protein drinks, maybe that's the issue?...just mostly water, low sodium broth and no sugar drinks, no carbonated drinks..or decaf coffee with a proteinshake in it.. I'm just so annoyed. Really thought I'd be like 5 pounds down by now. Anyone else having any of these issues? Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi! I started w/ a BMI of 34 and had the lap band done in June 2008. My personal weight goal is 120 (i'm only 5'2). So far I'm on average w/ 1lbs a week (lost 25lbs so far). I want to get to 2lbs a week. I workout 5days a week...1 hr a day (3 days cardio, 2 day strength). My typical meals consists of a Protein shake for breakfast(110 cal), a Lean Cusine for lunch (300cal), Snacks (150 cal), dinner (300-500 cal). And still only 1lbs a week if that! I was wondering what your goal weight was/is and how long it took you to reach your goal? What did you do to accomplish your goal?

Hello Lapband world, I wish I had known about this site months ago--I have read some really good information here. I am about to start my pre-op liquid diet, and I would like to know if anyone has found a truly tasty protein shake? I've researched on the internet and found something called Unjury I've ordered a couple packs of it but have not been able to bring myself to taste them. I am very anxious about the whole process, and scared, and nervous, but very excited! My other big question is will I have the extra skin hanging around like some of my friends who've had gastric bypass surgery? Or because lapband patients are losing weight at a slower pace, is this not a big problem? Looking forward to reading some good advice. Thanks to all who respond.

I know this might sound silly, but yesterday I went to the store and almost had a breakdown. Lol I'm one week in to my two week pre op diet. I had no idea how hard walking through the store would be! All my old fave Snacks calling me, and everything looked so yummy. I made it through without buying anything off list and it felt like a huge victory. I just wonder if it will get easier. Any savoury liquid breakfast suggestions?
jahair replied to Parvathi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you discover that grits do work for you [not everyone loves them], I have a way that would allow you to get Protein (eggs) into the meal in a much less noticeable way. My band prefers liquids in the morning and I find Protein drinks don't really fill the bill. I make the grits fairly thin, add cheese scrambled eggs, season and then throw the whole deal into my Magic Bullet or blender. Voila! Tasty, savory, yummy! Next week, I'll be getting some unflavored Protein powder that I ordered. Maybe I'll add a scoop to the mix before blending to increase the protein levels. Let us know how grits work for you, Jo Ann -
I'm closer to surgery, but further from being easy with this decision! Help.

Do this. Take a piece of paper, make two columns, make one column, "What is great about eating however I want." Make the other column, "What is terrible about eating however I want." Then put everything you can think of in each column. In my case, the "pro" side was three things. The "con" side filled the entire page, and I could have kept going. There's a tendency sometimes to say, "I'm not that bad." Like...Oh, I only have to take one pill for hypertension, so I'm not that bad. But how long are you going to be able to say that? There was a time I didn't have to take any pills. I didn't need a CPAP. My joints didn't hurt all the time. I could get up and down off the floor without struggling. I could fit into an airplane seat comfortably, or a booth, or a stadium seat at a sports event. I watched each 50 pound mile marker pass by, convincing myself I wouldn't reach the next one...and I did. How long are you going to say it's not that bad? Until it GETS bad? Because it catches up with you in a hurry, and suddenly you have health issues that may not be reversible. You're starting a new journey to a healthier version of yourself, with this decision. Over the coming months, you're going to get an education into everything that makes these surgeries work, and it includes getting your own mind right about making the necessary changes in lifestyle and habits. The key to all of it is rejecting the old behaviors that have gotten you to where you are. They haven't helped you, they've only hindered you...so is it really so worthwhile to hang onto them? -
Sooooo...its day 4 of pre op liquid fantastic diet. .. its not totally bad..but what doesnt help is my family walking up to my face chewing cookies obnoxiously lol...I feel like its going to get soo much easier with time, and now i kind of realize i can do the whole thing ..i was having serious doubts about a week ago. Its just been going so fast..i went to my first dr. meeting to talk about the lap band a little over a month or two ago and im having surgery in 9 freakin days!!!..Still in between excited or nervous...worried that it wont work for me just like every other weight loss program for the past 9 years ....heres hoping something will finally work for me ~xoxo Melanie~

So, here I was, thinking I've been rocking things lately ... and to celebrate my success I bought a new digital scale. Awesome, right?! WRONG!!! My old and awesome scale said I was 180 lbs. My new and horrible scale says I am 185. I think the bigger problem here is that five pounds absolutely devastated me. It made me feel so defeated. I'm the same person, and I weigh what I weigh, no matter what a scale says. I feel like my moods are reflecting what a scale says. And how lame is that?!?! Maybe I'll try the 'only weigh once a week' type thing so I don't get overly crazy. But that would be hard for me. Maybe that can be something I work towards. Here's an update on my therapy session about food addiction: She said I shouldn't overeat, but not to worry about it because it's just part of our society. Okay, thank you 6 feet tall, 110 pound therapist. I can't wait to see you again. My plan B? Books from the library. I'll update when I find a good one!
