  1. I’m 6 months post op mini bypass. I’ve noticed in the last month or so that I feel restriction still in the mornings and can eat very little (ex. 1/2 cup yogurt and some berries). But in the evenings, I can easily eat 2-3 times as much as in the morning before I feel the restriction. Is this common? Is it because I haven’t eaten at night so my stomach is less “stretched” in the morning? It just seems very odd. I find that if I’m not portioning out my meal properly in the evening, it can be easy to over eat, or at least eat more than I plan to eat.
  2. I dont know about the insurance part unless you have GERD or something that is causing you issues. Do you not have restriction to help you lose the weight? I do have a friend that had the revision that did well losing the weight, but there have been many people saying how much harder it is the 2nd time around. I was my original goal weight when I had the revision. I had gotten down in the high 160s and gained back to my original goal weight of 180. I dropped 12lbs the first month and I have lost a few more but that is it for me. I rarely feel anything when I eat but will get sick if I over eat or eat sugar or heavy carbs. Good luck to you and whatever you decide to do, but truthfully if you still have restriction keep your sleeve of course unless you are having bad reflux.

    GERD, PPI's and low WBC

You could talk to them about switching to an H2 blocker (Pepcid) instead of a PPI (Protonix). I had to take both (and tums for breakthrough reflux) for about a month because the reflux was so bad before my VSG to RNY revision I was having hiccups I couldn’t deal with anymore.

    GERD, PPI's and low WBC

I can't help with the medication side of things, but if your GERD is bad enough that you have needed PPIs for that period of time, has your doctor or surgeon discussed with you about gastric bypass which is known to bring relief from GERD for a number of people who have had a sleeve.

    Anyone for August 2020

I just had my revision done 8/25! This one seems more painful than the first one!

I’m sorry you had such a hard time! I just had my revision as well on the 8/25 and also had my hiatel hernia repaired. I also noticed that I have more pain after this surgery in relation to my original surgery!

    Anyone for September 2020?

If you have GERD and take a PPI. I dont know of other reasons. I do know some people are able to get a revision for weight gain, but you even have to be more diligent if you are doing it for weight loss. It is not like your original surgery where you had lots of restriction and the weight came off. Personally I liked the sleeve better I had way more restriction with it. I rarely feel anything with this bypass.

Recent RNY - How ya doing?

I had gastric bypass on 8/25 and really was regretting it in the hospital. My pain was unbelievable. I am home now and doing better but really struggling with the protein mixes. I would rather just drink water. I cannot stomach the protein drinks or mixes. This worries me. I get to go to full liquid starting on Tuesday and that will help but for now I am just not getting the protein. Sent from my LM-G820 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Second Guessing This!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I am so relieved I posted this and you shared your experiences. Wow how similar. This makes me feel SO much better. I'm going to do it. I just really needed to know this has happened with good results. In regards to the surgery, when we first met he and I discussed that the sleeve was what I really needed to do because I am on oxygen. It would be less risk because I am at "moderate risk" right now. Then after the EGD he found some things and thought he would need to do bypass, but he would let me know. Well, no one ever did let me know. I found out the way I said. Anyway, no biggie to that. But I haven't asked him if he can select another hospital. I think I may do that. If not, again his reviews are great so that's the most important part. Again, thank you so much. I am nervous enough about everything and really don't like adding on the fear of being at others mercy and not feeling at ease. But hell, welcome to the healthcare system, right? Taking Your Regular Medications Post-Op

I was able to take almost all pills (except for really large ones) as soon as I got out of the hospital - so this may not be as big of an issue as you're thinking. As for extended release meds - they generally switch you to something else (not an extended release version) after having gastric bypass surgery since meds will move through you a lot more quickly. I'd double check with the prescribing physician to see if there's something else they can put you on that's not extended release before you go through the trouble of fighting with the insurance company to get the liquid Wellbutrin covered.

    Regular meds

I took my thyroid meds the day after surgery, that pill is tiny. I could also take my PPI capsule five days after surgery. Ask your doc, some things you may need to cut in half or sprinkle in applesauce, but others may be just fine to take as they are. Extended release meds are problematic for bypassers.

    Surgery done by Robot?!?

Most laparoscopic surgery is done robotically in major medical centers. It’s actually better. I’ve had robotic gallbladder removal, RNY gastric bypass and hip replacement. The surgeon controls the robotic instruments.

  18. I had my gastric bypass done robotically. When the surgeon told me about it, he was emphatic that he, the surgeon, would still be performing the surgery, just using the robot to control the instruments. I got the sense that he has encountered people who were concerned about a robot performing their surgery because he said this multiple times. He says that he can do it with or without the robot, but he prefers to use the robot, and I was fine with it because I wanted him to do it the way that was easiest for him! My surgeon used the Da Vinci robotic surgery system, and I found some videos about it on YouTube. This one shows you a little about how it’s used:
  19. I had gastric bypass on July 16 (6 weeks yesterday). I've lost 20 pounds since surgery (the rest was before surgery), and I'm disappointed because I'm not losing weight any faster than I was before surgery when I was eating 3-4 times as much. It is easier now because I haven't been hungry since surgery. I am now under 250 pounds, which is my lowest weight since college, and the weight that I have been lying to say I am for years. Now I will have to pick a new lie! I used to have high blood pressure, and now I'm solidly in the normal range (not even pre-hypertension) with no medications. My A1c went from 8.1 in February to 5.2 last week, also with no medications. I am discouraged, though, because I have lost more than 90 pounds from my highest weight, but I'm still wearing the same clothes. They're a bit too loose, but not quite to the point of my pants falling down. I can wear a few things now that were too small at my highest weight, but I've only gone down one size, MAYBE two. I didn't get around to taking "before" pictures until I had already lost 40 pounds, but I recently took 1-month post-surgery pictures and I honestly cannot tell a difference between my pictures at 250 pounds and at 300. Even though my butt doesn't look any smaller, I have lost enough padding that sitting is a pain in the @$$ (which I was expecting eventually, but I thought I'd have to lose a lot more weight before I experienced that). What gives? How could I have lost more than 25% of my body weight without getting much smaller? Am I losing muscle but not fat? I will say I can tell a difference in my face (my phone doesn't even recognize my face half the time now), but that's not much consolation. I don't think any full-body pictures exist from my highest weight since I intentionally avoided cameras, but I got my passport picture taken at my highest weight and then procrastinated so much on sending in the application that I decided to get the picture retaken.

  21. Hello all, I was banded in 2008 at 433 lbs and lost 250 pounds to get my weight down to ~180 in a few years. Kept the band almost 10 years but the acid reflux got too bad and I had to have it removed a little over 6 months ago. My weight had been creeping up to 240 before the lap band removal and up to 280 now. I am strongly considering the RNY but am concerned about the permanent rearrangement of my insides. That's why I went with the band in the first place, because it was reversible. I am concerned about developing malnourishment, although I am good about taking supplements (which I do every day even now with no bariatric surgery in place). I am looking for success stories. Who has had their band removed and then put in a RYN and had a good experience? I need to lose at least 100 pounds now and want to keep it off for life this time.

    Need personal docs help?

You biggest obstacle my be yourself. And it's not just you, but lots of people feel the way you do. But if you want this SX you probably need to see the phyc dr. first. Without get your emotions fixed you are for an uphill battle. First place is to start with your insurance. If they do cover, ask what the requirements are. If not, you may need to look into self pay. Every person's insurance is different. I didn't have to go to my primary dr at all. The WLS RN called my GYN and had them send over my last few years of weight history. I showed a steady climb. I also had been on WW for a while and show that in all the months going i had only lost like 2lbs... I had no co mobidity. My insurance required a 40bmi with no co's. or a 35+ with two. I was the 40+. That was for the lapband. Sleeve i only went to the WLS.... i was considered a "revision" even though my band was removed 2.5 years before. Plus i was a cash pay. (14K) Be positive.... and start to do things for you that makes you feel proud to be you.
