Yep, that is one of the threads I remember vividly. But I stayed out of it. One thing I noticed, their band to something else revision forum is just as active as ours. A lot of people like the fact that the band is reversible. I guess it is a good thing when there is such a high likelihood of needing to remove it after the first year.

My only fear beyond surgical complications....
RickM replied to KeeWee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Think in terms of those who have the RNY gastric bypass, where the entire stomach is bypassed and set aside inactive. The stomach may atrophy over the years such that it is no longer viable, but that is over many years - people have the bypass reversed or revised to a sleeve or DS after several years and that stomach is entirely usable again. -
Complications: Did you have any?
Steven1954 replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the band in 2008. Went from 310 to 175. After six years severe complications began. Feb 2016 needed emergency removal and switch to gastric bypass. Six weeks later i could not drink liquids. Er called it stricture. From 11/2016 had ten ballon endoscopies , a stent which broke lose causing three surgeries, two surgeries for total small bowel obstructions . In the six months since removal of band my weight went from 175 to 235 my weight one year post revision is 157. Rough ride but what in life comes easy I switched hospitals to columbia presbyterian in NYC to finally get it fixed It was worth the rough journey but risk of adhesions is always present -
My one year surgiversary for my sleeve is 9/13. I am thrilled with it! My surgery was uneventful as well as my recovery. I was self pay and chose to go to Dr Hargroder in Baton Rouge, LA. The cost then was 11,900 and that included everything. I considered Mexico but my husband was more comfortable with my staying in the states and Dr H was a 6 hr drive from home. If it had just been me, I probably would have gone to Mexico to either Dr A or Dr H, they both have lots of happy patients over on obesityhelp. As for why I chose the vsg, I didn't like the rerouting aspect of the DS or the RNY. I didn't like the foreign body aspect of the band. I heard too many people having to have revisions due to slippage, erosions, etc. I also didn't want the maintenance of fills and unfills. With my vsg it was one surgery and no maintenance, that's my kind of surgery. With any surgery there are risks of complications so you have to take that into condiseration as well. There was also a recent study about all wls and it said that the bigger, higher rated hospitals have smaller complication rates. If you want specifics, I posted about it a week or so ago on my blog and there's a link to the article included. __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com

Hello all! Well..just got my surgery date...August 4th...and needless to say I am actually nervous. This will be a band to bypass revision, and it seems no matter how much research I have done, I find myself very much scared and nervous... it'd be nice to find some that are going through the same journey!! So I'm new to this but I had a hernia repair and a lap band revision to gastric sleeve on July 19th! I'm pretty excited with this new choice of life but confused at the same time. I never know if I'm eating enough I always have a rumble in my stomach. I'm not able to drink anymore than one bottle of Water a day. I sip on it all day but never exceeded one bottle. I know that's not good and I'm probably dehydrated but I feel stuffed after a few swallows but my stomach sounds like it needs food. I eat sf Jello, broth, Greek yogurt, and strained Soups but I'm not sure how much it too much. After two spoons of something I'm done. Is this normal?? My doctor has now allowed mushy foods. What should I eat and how much is normal? On the bright side I've lost a total of 19lbs but it sounds so unhealthy.

I second the protein coffee. I had sleeve three years ago and heard all about it but never tried. Now I’m pending revision and decided to give it a try and I love it. To the point I have to be sure I don’t get too much protein because it’s so good. I got out of the swing of taking my vitamins as well and I’m working on a routine now. I take my multivitamin right after my morning coffee (just be sure it’s a whole protein shake or it may not be enough in your stomach to keep the vitamin down). I keep my multivitamin in the kitchen cabinet with the cups I use for coffee now to remind me to grab them. I sit them right next to my iced “proffee” as I’m drinking it so I don’t forget (I’m pretty bad so yes it does take that many reminders). Then I return the empty cup and the vitamins to the kitchen. As far as the calcium I haven’t gotten back into the swing of that yet but I intend to take it with lunch and dinner to make things easy. I think maybe alarms on my phone may be necessary untill I get back into a routine.

Thanks for all the support, and yes it has been hard. I am on cymbalta and been in couseling since the sucide and the other deaths. It's been a full year of counseling so don't worry about my mental health, thats undercontrol. But...No amount of counseling can get ride of how lonely it is after everything like that. Being in such a small town there is nothing within 100 miles as a banding suport group. I know some get VGB after or gastric bypass. Has anyone had that done? and if not has anyone been successful after a full removal and no revision? It seems people in this forum keep getting told that band removal is an absolute death sentance. Shouldn't this be a place for those to be supported?

W, don't stress too much about it. I read your earlier posts. It's always difficult to communicate your thoughts and feelings in cyberspace. You are right in that you have to word things carefully in trying to accurately expressing your thoughts. It's hard and I've come across in ways that I didn't intend before. Happens to everyone. Just some thoughts from me based on what I've read from you so far. I know that I don't know you and I'm not judging or trying to fix things for you. I'm also not banded, just in the beginning stages of looking into it. I'm jumping on because I saw it was you who started the thread. In all honesty, please get some counseling. You need some help to get your thoughts in order. You have been through so much in such a short amount of time that it's probably hard for you to even think sometimes. Each thing is so huge one at a time, I can't imagine all of that at one time. Something that my pastor likes to advise people about and I completely agree with him. Don't make any big decisions for a year. Meaning life-changing kinds of things. Examples would be don't purge the house of their things, or sell the house and move, that kind of thing. Maybe in your case it means a revision surgery waiting for a bit. What about something to help you focus. Maybe make it your band or school or just day to day moments or ... Example: "okay, I'm awake this morning, that's good. Now it's time to get up and shower. Now it's time to get dressed. Now it's time to fix a simple, healthy Breakfast and eat it. Now it's time to..." You get the idea. It sounds simplistic and maybe even silly but if it works then who cares! :rolleyes2: Do know that your healing, mentally, emotionally and physically, is going to take some time. There are different stages of grief and no one stage is the same for everyone. Some stages take longer to work out than others. I didn't mean to make this so long. I talk too much even in cyberspace! I just felt the need to post to you and try to help. I do want to apologize if I over-stepped. Try to take care and best wishes to you.

Welcome Leslie! congratulations on getting yourself and your children out of a bad situation! I'm kinda new here too but I have a band and its coming out on Friday! I am having revision surgery at the same time and I.Cannot.Wait. I had my band put in last year in March in Mexico. The hardest part was finding a doctor to take care of my after-care. I found the best doctor on the east coast of FL and he will be doing my surgery! I've lost most of the weight I need to lose with the band, 53 lbs, and have maybe another 15 to go. The problem is I've had so many fill/unfill issues. My body does not respond to a tight band. I have to take 90 % of credit for losing the weight. I am so determined and I've exercised and dieted my way down the scale but I've had enough and I know I need the help of the sleeve to get off the rest and mainly to keep it off! I hope your insurance covers your surgery and I hope you choose to revise to the sleeve. I am so excited to being part II of my journey.

Sleeve or bypasd
CowgirlJane replied to MrsForcier's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
In my opinion, if you don't have acid reflux OR diabetes, they are both probably good choices. If you have those condistions, current evidence is that bypass is a better choice. My BMI was 52 when i revised to the sleeve and I have gotten to a normal weight/size and maintained for a few years now. The challenge in making this decision is that the sleeve has been around along time but not well studied for LONG term results. It appears to work "about" as well as the bypass, but the long term data just isn't there. At a high BMI, many surgeons nudge you toward the bypass because there is a clearer, well documented long term results history documented. I had my own reasons for choosing the sleeve and I think some of it was my bias against the bypass based on personal experience. I have known 3 bypass patients close enough to see them from pre surgery, through maintenance and they all "Scared me" 1. Died. but to be honest, she died because she was a diabetic who became an alcoholic drug addict after losing all that weight. It was absolutely terrible - in her 40s and died in her sleep. This was about 10 years ago. Lets be honest, that had nothing to do with bypass vs sleeve. 2. Horrible horrible recovery. But, this was mid 1990s. It only recently occured to me that her surgery was "open" not laproscopic. At the time, I thought the horrible recovery was due to the "rerouting" but I bet it had more to do with it being open surgery 3. The surgery and weight loss really aged her. She looked terrible post weight loss and never got to a normal weight. Again, to be fair, I don't know the reasons. This is someone I worked with about 5-6 years ago. She may have had other health problems and frankly most bypass patients I have seen pictures of or have met since then look great. I recognize my own biases and my views have changed. Now, 4 years post sleeve I tell everyone that I think they are both good procedures. I think they are both excellent choices versus remaining morbidly obese and suffering the increasing health issues over time. The bypass has more documented history, many more studies, and resolves reflux problems. Sleeve has been amazing for me, and many others too... but there are no 20 year studies either. -
Had my revision from sleeve to bypass on the 28th...
Smanky replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wasn't to take anti-inflamatories for the first few months because it's a stomach irritant, and with my GERD and propensity to develop stomach ulcers, that would have increased the risk of things getting stirred up. However it wasn't a "never again" thing. I take them now. I'd ask your team why they've permanently taken them off the table for you. As for swallowing pills - yeah, post-surgery seems to have permanently made it unpleasant. Never bothered me before, but now I avoid large tablets if there's a smaller option. I also opt for whatever chewable supplements I can get. I still have some I must swallow, so I just go slow. Can't speak for the revision weight-loss rate, but I hope all goes well for you now! You've certainly earned it! -

Five years banded and I have fallen off the bandster wagon,I need some advice...
Maddysgram replied to schampange's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was just diagnosed with a completely flipped port. Having revision surgery this Wednesday. The only difference I can feel is a slight twinge of pain when I lay on the port side. I have no restriction or reflux at all. That's why it is so important to go to Dr. Living with reflux is not good. Just explain to the Dr. that you fell on hard times and didn't have the money, which I'm sorry you're going through that, its rough. 6yrs ago my husband was self employed and we had no insurance, you just don't go to the Dr. What happened to the days no one had health insurance and anyone could go to a Dr? Miss them days. Keep us posted. -
I would say this is the right place for removal or considering removal. I might go to the complications forum for revisions. Just MHO though. Good luck!

Seeing my new surgeon tomorrow. First order of business find out what the heck is going on with this band. I need this uncertainty and pain to go away soon.

Congratulations! My mom had a revision done in September of last year - and she has said it was the best decision she ever made. Good luck! -
I have read a lot of posts from non-revision rny folks about throwing up and having food get stuck. Is this the same kind of thing that I experience nearly daily with my band? I don't want to live a life of getting stuck, sliming, and puking with rny....is it different????

Goodbye Ole Friend- My Goodbye Letter to My Band
galmila replied to Dallas Curvy Girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I understand completely. I have a revision on May 23. I really thought I was alone and didn't talk about my problems with the band to anyone. My kids know when I cant eat and I often have to leave the table and I have done it for so long that I am so looking forward to the sleeve. I know I have to get this thing out one way or the other. -
Hi, I'm in columbus and had my revision surgery in Cincinnati ( West Chester). I don't know how to send a PM on here but would love to talk to you. Maybe you will see this? Thanks. Katie

Has anyone had their port POP out when they bend over?
kirafiki replied to kirafiki's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks, they just told me that there is a kink in my tube, that maybe was caused by the popping port... and that I either have to have tiny fills, or maybe revision surgery.... grrrr
