Quit trying two years ago, need help getting back on track
RiceChex replied to laphappy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dear LapHappy, I too have fallen off the wagon. I was banded 11/07 I started out at 225 lowest weight with band was apprx 183 now I am back to 195 after losing 5lib over the last fw weeks. I will admit I have cheated, drank h2o while eating so I can eat more etc... I never really felt restriction. Approx 2 mths after i had the lapband surgery, i started with so GI issues. I was told I had IBS Irritable bowel sydrome. This was/is very difficult to deal with. i have not see my dr in about 18mts. I too am afraid of wht he will say. I am afraind he is going to tell me that i hve to have the band removed due to the IBS, but then i think maybe i want it removed because of the IBS... It is fustrating. I am soo sorry to just go on and on about this. I dont know anyone who has the band. I have one friend that had the gastric bypass she lost 150lb looks andfeel great and just doesnt understand or remember being overweight, etc... may be we can start the process over as a group of banders who are recommiting? LEt me know how you do and keep in touch RiceChex:crying: (christina) -
Other than about a week post op I ended up popping a stitch (and that hurt like crazy) I had no pain. I had some medium discomfort when trying to get up or down from a chair the first few days post op I had nothing. No gas pain etc (I'm very lucky) and I was pleasantly surprised I did have a little emotional trouble for a few weeks with having this "thing" inside of me, but with some positive thoughts, naming him (George if you care to know) and coming to terms with it, it's been awesome!

Looking For A Recipe Of Multi-Bean "cold" Salad
meyouus replied to donna12's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm used to the canned sweet three bean salad they sell in the supermarket, but no more. I do be=asically what you do, but I add a pack or two of Equal to sweeten it up. I hope it doesn't gross anyone out! -

Isn't it amazing how we whip up these really great fantasies about the dating men that we have met online and rarely does reality = fantasy. I'm sure guys do the same thing. With this particular gentleman, we have talked a lot through email and the phone - but until he reveals his true self...I will have doubts. APinkSoprano - I completely agree with you...I cannot wait to get out of this vicious dating cycle and in to something solid and future focused. What happened to dating 'just for fun'? I've really tried to just have fun and meet guys....but the little 'think about your future' thoughts creep in and ruins the whole thing of just doing it for fun! tick, tick, tick.... eh, who wants kids anyway! I cannot imagine that I'm too horrible as a potential date...I've had over 700 hits on my profile in the last 3 weeks. It's just the process of weeding through the numbers I guess.

That's a new one because I read up on band issues but never heard that one before. My problem is that I will do good but about two to three weeks later I can't keep nothing down including water. I go to my doctor and he just loosen my band a little. The interesting thing is that it helps but like clock work after a few weeks I have that problem again. Anyone had that issue or been told by their doctor what it is or why it does that? Its a horrible feeling.

I am happy for you! Cigna must be in a good mood this week, because they approved me on Monday. My surgery date was suppose to be January 2, but they change it to December 27! What a great Christmas present to me!

Some of you may know I have been training for a few months with running 5k and 10k. Each week I try and push myself and get better. Recently I joined cross fit to improve my fitness level. Last week, I saw this special on Evening Magazine (Seattle show) about cross fit and it showed this guy running at full speed on a treadmill at 12% incline. Afterwards, he was on his back breathing hard and looking like he just had the best sex ever (pardon the visual). I thought, damn, I wish I could do that. They said several times during the show that athletes do cross fit for the extreme high it brings. I thought - sounds good to me. Fast forward to today, I decided to really push myself like never before. Instead of spending the first 10 minutes of my 10 k to get into the zone, I got myself into the zone at the end of my warm up by adding sprints and incline running during the warm up. I started the race at 6.6 mph and 2.0% incline. At then end of 5 k, I had been running 18.5 minutes. At the end of 10 k I finished in 39 minutes. I was on my back recovering for a min, seeing stars with sound echoing into the distance. I felt great, like that guy I saw on the show. I wanted to stop several times during the run, but I kept repeating "I am a cross fit runner now. I can do this." To help me have the energy to do it, I popped 2 energy squares before the run and another at 5 k. I drank a lot of Water all morning to hydrate myself. Took a pre workout drink right before run so the pump would kick in around 20-30 minutes. I met my latest goal of running 5 k sub 20 minutes! I continue to train with runs 3-4 x a week, increasing the effort spent every session. I share this to motivate others. Good luck in your fitness endeavors and may you keep setting and meeting your goals. I think anything is possible and I want to apply the principles of cross fit to all areas of life.

Deposit paid, flights booked, almost ready
Jane_J replied to Jagator88's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Good luck for your op. I didn't wear a bra whilst in hospital but for travelling and for the 1st 2 weeks post op I wore a big comfy sports bra. Even so I still could not keep it on all day in the early times. I take a 44 G and it frightens the horses and hurts my knees if I go out without a bra on  -
i'd wait a week or two. personally, it has taken that long for me to feel a fill kick in. i've gone two weeks with barely any restriction and then on day 15, boom: i can barely eat 4-6oz of chicken. the band is indeed a strange mistress. fwiw, i've got a 14cc band too and now have 7ccs in. i was in a sweet spot at 6, but then it disappeared after about 6 weeks. i've got an appt for next week and am hoping for another .5 to 1cc. i've been losing and gaining the same 3lbs for nearly a month. grrr. good luck and check-in with your doctor soon. fyi: here's a really good thread on the 14cc band... http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/does-14cc-band-give-same-restriction-10cc-band-50248/

I'm only 7 weeks out, but my surgeon's rules are no drinking with meals forever, because then you tend to feel less full and eat more, and you can eat around the sleeve and stop losing/start gaining weight. Not drinking with meals was the thing I was most concerned about before surgery but I've found it very easy to be compliant.

Newbie here with a question on timing
Diana_in_Philly replied to GreenEyedGal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really depends on your insurance and surgical team's requirements. Some insurance carriers require 6 or 12 month monitored weight loss program. My insurance did not require that, but my program requires 3 months of supervised visits. I've lost about 20 pounds, but put 2 on during vacation in Nashville last week (too many biscuits and fried chicken) and I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. My surgery is 8/23. Also, it depends on when your surgeon gets approval from your insurance company. They may put a window on the approval. -
Trying To Decide
cookie2012 replied to CaliGirly619's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is next week and when I first went to see my surgeon I was all about the lap band until he told me about the VSG. I don't want to be phaffing around with fills etc plus the other risks of infection, flipping ports, slipped bands and having a foreign body inside me. I am really happy with my decision and can't wait for my surgery next Wednesday. -
Hi there, I was banded last month by Dr. Joffe. The cost was $15,000, but he was amazing. I go see him next week for my first fill....can't wait.

For me, I had to have some blood taken, and that was it. I don't know what tests they ran on it though. They wanted the results 2 weeks before surgery. My parents knew, as did my boyfriend, and 1 friend (only cause I had to) My mom has since blabbed, and told WAY more people than I'm comfortable with. If I had my way, no one would know. But I do think, now that people do, and I don't even know WHO knows, once I make it to goal, and all is good, I'll be ok telling people, if they ask. So, yeah, totally normal... lots of people don't tell either.

Maggie....TLBC required me to have blood tests, ECG (or is it EKG? LOL) and a chest X-ray. All of this takes no time at all. There are a lot of threads (here on the Canuck section and also in the "general" & "support" sections) dealing with the "to tell or not to tell issue".....I recommend searching them out and you will get a wealth of responses/posts on it. I, too, chose VERY selectively who to tell. I told Mr Yoda (obviously) and my folks (who live in a land far far away....also known at BC). A friend of mine who also had it done (a month prior to me) also knows as well as two or three other friends who knew because they knew about hers and it just sort of "came up". I would probably still like it better if even all these people didn't know but the choice was basically taken out of my hands. Otherwise, I still keep it very private.....everyone has there own reasons for not saying much (if that is what they decide to do). I know others who don't care and tell anyone and everyone and they are ok with it.....to each his/her own (only you can know about your life and about your "circle" and the support (overt or covert) that you will get so only you can make the decision that is right for you). Just know that this is a common issue and there are many sides to it!

Yes Mandi, you are always right on the mark. The optifast shakes were about 160.00, you have to pay for the shipping and handling if you're having it sent to you. (2 week supply).

I would make an appointment for as soon as you can and say you a fill. My doc does a standard six weeks out but also says that if I need a fill before to schedule another appointment for a sooner time and date. I have a fill scheduled in two weeks but noticed my restriction is less since my last, so I scheduled a sooner one and kept my original schedule so I now have two in case the early fill isn't enough.
-
My doctor will not do a fill earlier than 6 weeks after the previous fill. And in my case, waiting until 3.5 months for the first fill, with the next one on July 17, it is quite possible that in 6 months I will have had only 2 fills. Not what I anticipated, but what I had to do. Still waiting for test results to determine if I will need to have my gallbladder removed...which if so, may delay the fill schedule longer...

I'm ten weeks out and it's the same for me. Sometimes it comes on for no reason! Doc says that's normal and it will get better. For now, it's worth the 40 lbs I've lost.

I am so excited. My husbands insurance is going to start paying for the sleeve Jan. 1st. Now i am trying to decide on a doctor. I have been to Dr Nick's semiar and support groups for a couple of months now. Now a friend of the family told be about Dr Barker also. How did anyone decided on which doctor to go to? Both seem to be on the our insurance plan(UHC). I have been reading all these forums for weeks now, i really want to do this right away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :001_unsure:
