2 months after surgery still can’t eat much

I'll be 10 weeks Monday and I'm still mostly on shakes. 2 or 3 a day most days

    Quick question

If your activity level is low there's no reason to add calories. I'm 10 weeks post op nearly and I'm still around 500cal most days.

    Low BMI 2018/2019

I was banded in 2016 at that time I was about 220 pds and started having issues even with air all let out in 12/2018. Insurance had approved to remove band however I did want to wait and make sure that’s what I wanted. Over this past summer is when I decided to have my band removed and switched to the sleeve. My doctor wrote a letter of necessity to my insurance and it was approved. My lowest with band was 165 and at my surgery date on 12/31/2019 I was 183. I’m currently diabetic but off meds as instructed by my doctor. I’ve heard sometimes the surgery doesn’t work for everybody. . I also love wine but I do plan on doing everything by the book and cutting most of the carbs out. I had tried Keto but I think I gained weight instead of losing and I also ended up with my cholesterol a little high. Hope you find something that works for you.

    I wish. It's more like 7 up to 10.
  7. My Surgery was 11/4/19. I’m still having issues with eating. I’m either not hungry or what I fix just doesn’t taste good. I feel like maybe I wait to long before I eat. I drink my protein drink and I’m full all day. Sometimes I eat something today I’m fine the eat the same thing tomorrow and I throw up. My surgeon says you’ll get there. Anyone else had a hard time eating 2 months after surgery???

    The Sleeve and MS

I just had surgery on Dec. 23, 2019. Does anyone else have Multiple Sclerosis? I am in my 2nd week, and I haven't had any problems. I felt hungry from day 3 post-op until I was allowed to drink protein drinks in week-2. I don't do any exercising yet, and won't except while sitting due to very poor balance.
  9. I just had the sleeve done on Dec. 23, 2019, so I am in week-2. I'm going to track my calories later like "Fluffychix".
  10. Hi Hun thank you for your reply. yeah I’m propping myself up on a few pillows. No recliner as I’m in a hotel so I guess that doesn’t help either to get into a routine. yes the idea after first 10 days are finished, are to start on purées, I’ve been told to drink something other then water that’s sugar free so I need to look into that. I know a lot of people on here have jelly and ice lollies but my dietician has told me not to consume anything to cold or too hot. I have even given a binder and I use it religiously when I’m walking, it’s causing my wounds to discharge but apparently that’s completely normal. I am on a whole load of medication; from thyroid meds to vitamin d, couple antibiotics and stomach protectors. And I’m gulping a lot of water when taking the tablets which leaves no room for other ‘liquids’ but I guess it’s a big learning challenge and trying to understand my body again. rosy

"How many calories" - first thing to get right. "What kind of calories" - the fine tuning stuff. People can't lose weight 1) fast enough and 2) seem to be in a panic in regards of getting everything 110% perfect from the start. So there are too many people starting to fine tune the stuff without having figured out how far the basics are getting them. Some start their weight loss attempt/journey with firing the whole broadside on their fat without taking into the equation that it might be smart to keep some bullets in the arsenal to fire off later when things are slowing down and/or there are these last 10 kg that don't want to come off. So maybe thinking about that insulin index or spie or glycemic index or spike or the thermogenesis effect of different macronutrients is not really necessary as long as weight loss happens without worrying about this stuff. There will be time to worry about this later. Promised. This "fine tuning" is way worse on bodybuilding and/or fitness boards though, btw. "OMGZ, have to start with 6 days a week, 2 times a day going to the gym doing a split program, eating only protein and taking a 1000 supplements in the right order at the right time. If not, no gAinZ, bro!!" (But don't worry, we aren't that far behind, lol.)

    Moving over here Now!

you don't look too thin to me - you look fine. Even when you get to the point where you're looking really gaunt, things sort of move around that first year of maintenance and you won't look as gaunt even if your weight is stable. AND....don't forget....most of us experience a 10-20 lb "bounceback" (and sometimes more, unfortunately) during year three-ish. So keep that in mind as well...

    So completely confused

I understand your pain partially. Mine was not open but I had hernia repair with a full bypass. I’m 6wks out still having some discomfort and pain. Your body is traumatized and it’s going to take time to heal. Were you given a binder to wear to help support your stomach? Are you sitting up sleeping (propped on pillows) I used 6 to help sleep, or slept in recliner. It’s a new learning process to know when you’re hungry or thirsty. I still can get in the required liquids and proteins drinks in a day. I get too full even drinking from a shot glass every 15 min. The no water with food is for solids only. What’s your post-op diet after 10 days it should be purée to softs and gradually adding in fish around 4 weeks soft veggies around 6 weeks. That’s how “some” are structured.

Revision bypass for GERD/Hernia 11/21/19 started: 240 (ate everything I could before pre-op liquids 😝) surgery date: 229 cw: 213 dropped 27lbs in 6 weeks. My sleeve 11/22/2012 highest weight 364 surgery weight 350 in one year I lost150lbs and maintained weight was 216lbs (through 2018) then I was on Prednisone for all 2018 and I hovered around 235. Top photo was sleeve 2012-2017. Bottom photo is 2019 pre-bypass and 12/21/19 (my bday) 4wks post-op after bypass. I haven’t been to the gym yet to start toning I’m now 6wks post-op.

    Gastric sleeve and lupus

I had bypass on 11/21/19, and I was diagnosed with SLE, Sjogrens, and PMR in 2017. Thanks God it’s well controlled with Plaquenil. The only issue I’m experiencing is the fatigue, and I’m noticing hair loss starting. That scares me the most, but I’ve added Biotin to my vitamin regimen. The pain and discomfort I’m still experiencing I’m not contributing that to my Lupus at this time. I had hernia repair too and that’s the area the bulk of my pain is, and lower abdominal region. I wish you the best of luck. Just know there’s no more oral prednisone if you have to use that for flare ups it has to be IV, or injection only from what my doctor told me. It cannot be long term.

    Issues still...

I had bypass 11/21/19 and still having pain and discomfort. For the last week and a half I’m having issues with getting anything down (liquids, chewable vitamins, food etc.). Not sure why, but I finally called my doctor’s nurse today (left vm). I’m using gas-x in case its gas pains no relief, I chew chew chew/sip sip sip before swallowing but everything seems to get stuck in my chest area. When it comes back up it’s a ball of slime nothing else. It’s happens a couple times a day. Anyone else having this issue?

  18. I had bypass 11/21/19 and maintained my weight for seven years after my sleeve. I’ve lost a total of 25lbs. My doctor is expecting me to lose up to 40lbs total with the revision which was due to GERD and hiatal hernia. He told me be prepared to lose 30-40lbs overall when I went in for the initial consultation.

    The Maintenance Thread

I did a Dexa scan (10 months post RNY) to get a baseline for future tests. It didn't give me % muscle etc just scores. The lowest score (still above the normal) was the L Femur neck was 2.0, but the Right and overall both femurs were 2.6 to 2.8 and the lumbar spine was 3.4. I guess carrying around excess weight for decades helped build up my bones. I will probable have it repeated in 5-7 years when I am near 50 years old and if it still looks great then probable wont repeat it unless my Md feels it necessary.
  20. So I started this journey in August 2019. I just found out that my insurance has approved me. I still need to do the EGD an I am scheduled on the 15th of this month. I have one major concern and that is, I can not tolerate any type of pain medication on an empty stomach. I am worried about after that surgery. Any advice?

Yikes, ten degrees?!!! And I have been whining because we got down to forty degrees in the desert Southwest. My best friend, Polly who had her surgery ten years ago, warned me that I would feel cold (something that I hadn’t felt in about twenty years) and boy she was right. It doesn’t help that I live with a polar bear that thinks 60 degrees is comfortable. I had my surgery on 8/16/19. In the previous two years I had lost 35 pounds on my own. Since The surgery I have lost an additional 66 pounds but it was just weeks after my surgery that I dragged out a rarely used blanket and keep it next to my chair in the living room and need to use it on a daily basis. So, I cannot imagine looking as svelte as you and living in ten degrees. You are an inspiration!

  24. I’m 10 months out. Regarding drinking after eating-Initially I couldn’t drink for at least 30-40 minutes after eating 1 egg or an ounce of meat. I still don’t drink after eating now just to follow the rules. Early on and now I can eat yogurt then drink 10-20 minutes later with ease since it’s not a solid food. Regarding drinking before eating-Now I can drink water and 10 minutes later eat as long as I have not eaten for 1-2 hours prior so my stomach is completely empty, the water passes right through and then I can eat without waiting 30 minutes. I would not encourage purposely doing that especially early on. I’m at maintenance and have to do this in order to get calories in.
