    Anyone scheduled for May 2014?

You will be fine. Had bypass last Wednesday and it really hasn't been bad. Praying for you and quick recovery!
  2. I have I had my sleeve done on April 8th it was a lapband to sleeve revision plus a hiatal hernia repair I woke with an NG tube it was awful but you won't have that. The hospital is nice very clean not as high tech as American hospitals I felt save and can tell you he does a lot of surgeries about 12 a day. It's goes pretty fast and before you know it, it's over and your new life begins. Just make sure you follow the preop diet or you'll be sick

    Band to bypass approved today

That is just wonderful news. I am so happy for you and excited that you're having success with your revision. Personally, I'm tired of waiting. I refuse to pay for this myself since my insurance policy clearly covers revisions. They're just thinking that I won't pursue it the same as many others -- but they don't know who they're messing with. I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL! I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL! I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL!

    Band to bypass approved today

I just had band to rny revision on May 7. Mine was covered by insurance, thank goodness! I had struggled with the band since 2008 and originally lost aprox. 60 lbs but then slowly creeped up 40. Now 6 weeks after the bypass I am at the lowest weight that I have been at in 15 years! Dropped under 220 for the first time! Even though I've had a few complications... Battling a stricture. (Everyone in the endoscopy department of the hospital knows me now). This has been the best decision I could have made! No more running to throw up after eating 3 bites of chicken! It definitely gets better every day ????

    48 surgery June 3, 2016

I had my bypass in September last year at the age of 44. It's never too late to start on this journey. I feel better than I've ever felt in my life!! Sent from my HTC One_M8 using the BariatricPal App
  6. Hi guys. This is my first day on here. Today I started my two week pre-operative liver reduction diet. My surgery is booked on 11th August. So two weeks tomorrow. I'm so excited to finally begin this final preparation process, and to begin changing my life. Apart from my weight I have NO medical conditions, and am taking no medication. I have no weight related illnesses. So in that respect I'm very lucky. However I'm so anxious and scared. I'm so worried that something will go wrong during/after the operation that I find myself crying and panicking. Has anyone got any advice on how I can stay calm and not panic on the lead up and especially the day of my surgery? What helped for others to keep the, calm? Thanks Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  7. I had my bypass almost a year ago now. I'm up in NY but I always love making new friends and helping/supporting anyone anyone I can. Feel free to friend me or message me anytime!

I just came home today from the hospital. I had a revision from lap band to gastric sleeve. Thanks so much for the encouraging words!

    Welcome

Seems like there are a lot of band to bypass folks out there. My surgeon doesn't even want to do the bands anymore. Think positive. I know some of the post op boards are scary but more of the information is positive.

    Blue shield of California (medical)

I have Blue Shield and am wanting to bypass their 3 month "waiting period" recommendation. In which they suggest that you take some time to think about whether you really want the surgery or not. However I have been researching and thinking about it for the last 4 years. So I want to write them a letter addressing that in case they try to deny me because of the waiting period. (Which of course they will try to). Any suggestions?

    Brand Spanking New!

Many insurance policies are similar in their requirements for eligibility for Bariatric Surgery. According to my insurance policy: • Surgical treatment of obesity (bariatric surgery) is covered only if: - eligible enrollee is 18 of age or over - clinical records support a body mass index of 40 or greater (or 35-40 when there is at least one co-morbidity related to obesity). Applicable co-morbid conditions include the following: • Type II diabetes mellitus (by American Diabetes Association diagnostic criteria). • Refractory hypertension (defined as blood pressure of 140 mmHg systolic and or 90 mmHg diastolic) despite medical treatment with maximal dose of three antihypertensive medications. • Refractory hyperlipidemia (acceptable levels of lipids unachievable with diet and maximum doses of lipid lowering medications). • Obesity–induced cardiomyopathy. • Clinically significant obstructive sleep apnea. • Severe arthopathy of the spine and or weight bearing joints (when obesity prohibits appropriate surgical management of joint dysfunction treatable but for obesity. So I tend to agree with @Seagull. You may have sleep apnea and not really know it. I did. My wife is a light sleeper and my snoring for years kept her awake at night. This was one of the conditions corrected by my RNY gastric bypass surgery, along with my high blood pressure, diabetes and GERD.

    Band 2 Sleeve Weight Loss

Hey Beanie& Rosie's Mom. When I had the band, I couldnt eat salads, veggies, chicken or turkey & other foods except of course junk food. As many ppl who've had a revision say, the sleeve is everything the band was supposed to be. I never slime now. I've only vomited twice in over 3 mos. Both times I tried to eat re-heated meat and it was to dry. I know my sleeve cant tolerate it. So my fault. Lesson learned. I had a 36 bougie which I think it's slightly bigger than most but my doctor said its the size with least complications. I never had trouble drinking water or getting 4 oz of food in. I have no regrets. Ask me anything.
  13. Hi banders that have been revised to sleeve. Did you lose weight faster with the sleeve than initially with the band?

    Band 2 Sleeve Weight Loss

Hi Sara, My husband and I had the revision done it Tijuana June 1st. After doing months of research we decided to go with Dr. Kelly. He charged us $5500 for the sleeve and an addition $500 for the revision, so we paid a total of $6000 each. He offered the choice of 2 days in the hospital and 3 days at the hotel or 3 days at the hospital and two days at the hotel. We were very nervous since we have 3 girls and knew that there was a higher chance of complications since we were revision. We asked a lot of questions about the surgery. Initially with Omar the assistant and we spoke with Dr. Kelly on the phone. The way he spoke with us gave us the confidence that we needed to have the procedure done with him. So, we flew in to San Diego from Miami. Our flight arrived almost at 10pm but Cecy Dr. Kelly's wife was waiting for us at the terminal. She absolutely wonderful and caring. She offered to either take us to the hotel or check in to the hospital. We chose the hospital since we would have to get up at 5am and get ready if we stayed at the hotel. When we arrived at the hospital at 11pm we were surprised to find not only Omar the assistant waiting for us but also Dr. Kelly. They were there to greet us and make sure we were comfortable. We sad down and spoke for a few minutes as we were being admitted. We were shocked to find nurses and doctors that spoke english. The staff at the hospital and the level of care we received is by far the best I have ever encounter in any. Hospital. Our post op experience was truly amazing. I know everyone is different. But we took our fist steps two hours after surgery. Compared to my recovery from lapband this was unbelievable. We did shopping, we went to have our teeth laser cleaned and did just about anything everyone would normally do (except eat solid food). Dr. Kelly and Omar met us for Breakfast at the hotel. They were so kind as to invite us to Dr. Kelly's birthday party that night with his family and friends. In the end all I can say is we came as patients and left as friends. Everyone was amazing. Dr. Kelly is not the cheapest or the most expensive, but he is the one we felt comfortable with. You will find that many people have similar success stories like mine with other doctors, you will need to do your own research to see who you feel comfortable with. But hopefully you will at least get two or three good doctors to research from this post. I'm sorry for the long story, I'm just so excited to have this lapbad off and I feel so great! Tanay
  16. I am very very fortunate to have a co-worker who had gastric bypass in May who has given me all of her clothes so I have from 24 down to 14s already. I will need to buy some 26/28 because I currently am a 30/32 but not sure how long I will even need them. Once I am done with a size we agreed to donate them to a woman's shelter here. I had an Aunt pass away due to abuse so it is an important cause for me. Our local WLS support group has a clothing exchange so you may want to check into that.

    MEDICARE AND SUPPLIMENTAL INSURANCE

This is from Medicares website, the sleeve may not be. But thank you for the reference I will check it out. Bariatric surgery Who's eligible?Medicare covers some bariatric surgical procedures, like gastric bypass surgery and laparoscopic banding surgery, when you meet certain conditions related to morbid obesity. Note Your doctor or other health care provider may recommend you get services more often than Medicare covers. Or, they may recommend services that Medicare doesn’t cover. If this happens, you may have to pay some or all of the costs. It’s important to ask questions so you understand why your doctor is recommending certain services and whether Medicare will pay for them. Your costs in Original MedicareFor surgeries or procedures, it's difficult to know the exact costs in advance because no one knows exactly what services you'll need. If you're having surgery or a procedure, you can do some things in advance to figure out approximately how much you'll have to pay.
  18. Oh the lapband, the first year was great. I was mostly compliant and lost 65 lbs. Then, in one weekend, I thought I was going to die. Turns out I had a slippage with 2 little pouches. So I went in for a revision. I tried my best to hold onto that band. I didn't want to gain the weight back. You know the deal, vomiting all the time, but worst than that, trapped gas. So after another year of all that, it had to come out. Now, 3 yrs later, I'm heavier than ever at 343. In this year I have been down to 313 and back up to this weight. I can drop and gain the same 7/lbs over and over. Water weight. So now I want to thoroughly investigate the sleeve. My concerns are #1: excessive Scar tissue as that was to blame for band removal, #2 do you get trapped gas with sleeve, heck I still have it, and #3: I have Dercum's Disease. Does anyone else have Dercum's and WLS? So can some of you help me make a decision? I'm not doing good on my own. I have severe osteoarthritis and this weight is dragging me down. I thought I had done my investigating with the band but no, I didn't do enough. Really, mostly concerned about Scar tissue... Please give me your thoughts.
  19. I'm going to Mexico to have my surgery. I'm doing the bypass not the sleeve. Thanks so much! I'm pretty excited!
  20. Got my date, 6/8/15!!! I'm a teacher so summer works best. I am 28 years young but have had bad diabetes since I was 18. The band worked at first, lost 80lbs from my highest weight...but I hate it now. Gained almost all weight back and didn't help my diabetes like I was promised. Was looking at the sleeve revision but my Dr recommended RNY instead...I am hoping RNY helps. Anyone else diabetic with some encouraging words?
  21. Jas Lap band in 2012, revision will be December. Diet 1st time around involved counting protein, eating protein first, a lot a protein shakes... Had my nutrition "class" and they did not once mention protein. No joke. They believe it is an old school way of thinking. That as long as you eat real food, measured out, you will be fine. No shakes after week 2. No eating every 4 hours. Eat 3 meals per day, no snacking. I'm confused. I thought I knew what to do. Now I don't. What have you found to be the recommended plan? 22. I'm so sorry you are not feeling well. The first advice that I can give you is call your doctor and go see him/her. Let them know how you are feeling. I had gastric bypass done 10 years ago and I remember that the first days were fine, but around 2 months after I couldn't even drink water. Your symptoms could be do to several possible causes. Some people just experience this normally a few months after surgery. Or it could be that the bile that was stores before in your gallbladder is working differently to help with digestion. Some people develop scar tissue around the incision from the gastric bypass surgery. It could be different things or just the body attempting to recover after two surgeries. I remember I could only drink Crystal Light for about 4 months after the surgery, as water would make me gag. I'd make an appointment with your doctor to make sure everything's working well. It's always good to check. Good luck on your road to recovery! Life will be normal again. It takes a while, but it gets better!

    Anyone from the Chicagoland area

That is what I've heard. My buddy did bypass there in Feb. And he said the same thing about nurses. Yes, I do add frozen pineapple, banana, cooked beet's, yogurt, not for the taste, but to feel full. Honestly I cheated all two weeks, I had some grilled chicken breast, few slices of corn beef. Nothing serious, but men, it is hard. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using the BariatricPal App
