I'm from Waynesville and should be getting my sleeve sometime before the first week of November... Nice to meet you!

I am three weeks away from my one year, and my suggestion would be to eat a couple of boiled eggs before you go or a couple of devilled eggs when you get there. Eat as much turkey as you can hold, and then an itty bit of the dressing and pie - just enough to say you did.

Hi Vanessa, I'm not a military wife but live alone with two large dogs I was in the hospital for 3 days, my boyfriend stayed at my house and took care of my dogs. He picked me up from the hospital and stayed with me for a couple of days. I must stay that my recovery was amazing. I was back to work in one week, I worked 1/2 day in the office and 1/2 day at home for 1 week then back to full day. I was up and moving around (walking) ASAP, I feel that was what helped me recover quick. I did rest and take it easy but I was very motivated to get back to normal. Do you have any family or friends to stay with you when you get home?

hi, i had my surgery september 22nd, 2010, i came out doing great, i had very little pain and started walking right of way. i am now in my 2nd week of full liquid and am about to start the pureed stage. i am so looking forward to that. i currantly eat 1/4 to 1/2 of a cup 3 times a day and i am not hungry at all. i think that is fantastic. i love not wanting food all the time. my doctor gave me a very small sleeve he said smaller than most so he said be carefull not to streach it. i am just so excited about my new journey in life i had to share somehting with someone. i hope you like it and i will post more at a later date.

Hey all you twenty-somethings! I thought I'd let you know how I'm going to give you a bit of encouragement if any of you are yet to be sleeved. I got out of hospital a little over a week ago and I'm doing absolutely terrific! After all the reading I've done on this site of other people's issues post-surgery with getting food down I was a bit spooked by it all. So far so good - I've been able to eat absolutely everything I need to with no hassles what-so-ever. Milk is fine, fibrous food is fine and even Protein is fine (though it doesn't take much protein to get me full). I thought I'd share it with you because I personally was really worried about how much discomfort I would be in when eating. I'm not sure if it's because of my age, that maybe I've healed really quickly but it could be that. So don't get too worried about it - just go with the flow and test yourself but try not to overdo it. I did have one sliming incident but that because the nurses were forcing me to have some jelly the next day after surgery. I encourage burping early on in recovery - it really helps you feel better, especially cause our new stomachs don't have as much room for storing gases as our old ones did! Good luck to you all - you'll do great!

Realization - Eating Habits
brandibandtosleeve2012 replied to NurseGrace's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm facing the same issue. I had surgery 3 weeks ago and am struggling to get my calories up to at least 800 calories. I went to the grocery store Monday to get ginger tea to help with nausea and I wanted to load up on every one of my former binge foods. I had to get out of there quick! I wasn't even hungry. I was discussing that with my dietician and she said even though I don't feel hunger, my body is telling me it needs more food. So although part of that grocery store experience was habit, it was my body telling me to please eat more food!! -
Well today is the end of another Christmas. I count my blessings everyday. My whole immediate family showed up Cristmas Eve. We ate a fun meal, well at least they did, I am only 3 weeks out. Then proceded to open all the presents and then played games. A very enjoyable evening. I was given some smaller clothes and some of them fit. That was fun. Mainly I wanted to tell everyone Merry Christmas. I hope your day was as great as mine was. I also hope our New Year holds many good surprises for us all.

Freshly sleeved....Livonia MI

That's good to hear because I am exhausted! Glad to know it's not forever lol. I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember, my highest weight being 355. I yoyo'd between 355 &300 for the past 2 years and just finally had enough. I considered surgery a few years ago but decided that I could just continue doing it on my own. Around November 2012 I started having some pretty serious problems with endometriosis and PCOS (I have both) and decided now is the time. I am 3 weeks out today and down 29 pounds already. Ecstatic to say the least I'm ready to love the healthy active life I've been trying to live for far too long -
Jurors Biased Against Obese Women?
Ms skinniness replied to Kelsan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I look around and see all the children that are obese, it truly makes me sad. These kids are tortured daily by their body size and the added fact that children are just plan cruel. Then when I look at the majority of adults that are obese also, it validates the fact that there are prejudices in our world with different labels. There are 3 ingredients in food that are addicting and that's sugar, fat, and salt... I never realized exactly how big I was before surgery and now I look at myself with different lens. Yes, now there rose colored lens! How do we go about changing the world? My way is sharing about my experiences with others. -
I notice how many of you suffer with these headaches. I am not one thankfully but my DIL suffers terribly . She went to a new nurologist a few weeks ago. Did MRI and was clear, thank God. But he took her off of all chocolate and colas. She did it and headaches gone. When she does indulge she suffers so she has not done that often. Such a simple thing for her. I hope this can help some of you.

My wife and I also paid cash and were originally going to use Dr. Borland. We had a great experience with Dr. Borland and his staff, but in the end, opted to use Dr. Lavin in Mandeville, due to the logistics involved (We live in Slidell and were able to use Southern Surgical Center in Slidell...too convenient w/school age children.). I'm 8 months post op, 101 lbs. down (hit my goal two weeks ago!) and my wife is 6 months out, 70 lbs. down (she hit her goal 3 weeks ago...then decided she wanted to lose more...women! LOL). We were talking last night about getting crawfish next weekend...now we can boil enough for the two of us in a small stock pot on the stove! Good luck!

I'm at the Kaiser in San Diego (The Positive Choice Center). I know everywhere for Kaiser is different because my classes are actually 24 weeks as opposed to 12 which I see in a lot of other places. And I actually did all the testing before they schedule you to see the doctor (yup the stool test is super fun!!!) The doctor I'm scheduled to see is the bariatric guy, not m y doctor...I can only assume if I'm this far that to some degree, I qualify for the surgery. I'm looking forward to the classes actually, I really believe that they ultimately help you be successful after surgery (although I wouldn't mind if they were only 12 weeks instead of 24!!!)

Thank you for the response!! I'm thinking I pretty much understand how the Kaiser process works....I'm just scheduled for a pre evaluation with the doctor at positive choice and I have no clue what kind stuff they are going to ask...I never had to have a PCP referral....maybe this takes the place of that?? Plus I already did a full set of lab work (my sister is in Riverside and didn't do that until after the 7th week)....I have a feeling I'm going to stress about this no matter what though cause there is no way to know for sure.

I see the surgeon this coming week. I'm excited, but freaking out on the inside. Hopefully I can get an early surgery date. Well the jeans I have now started to feel a little big on me (I did lose 15 pounds since deciding to get the surgery) so I went ahead and shopped online for a new pair of jeans, the same jeans just in a smaller size. I noticed that the website was offering a pretty sweet deal where if you spend $100 or more you get $50 off. Well my jeans cost $54 so I thought it would be pretty dumb of me not to order a 2nd pair that would be practically free. The 2nd pair I ordered I got in a size smaller as I am anticipating losing more weight once I start the liquid diet and then after I am sleeved. I wanted to inform all you women out there who are currently losing weight and going through jeans fairly quickly of this deal. It's on the Catherine's website and they are called 'right fit jeans'. It's not just jeans that apply to this deal though, it's almost anything on their website where your total purchase is over $100, you get $50 off. You have to type in coupon code NOVEMBERCA Good luck!! Oh and the offer expires on Sunday.

I am 6 weeks out as of Thursday, however, Monday evening I began to feel nauseas anytime I ate or drank anything. By today I am throwing up and just feeling nasty I'm not worried about a leak. This is the first time in my whole six weeks I have thrown up and it had nothing to do with food!! Has anyone experienced their first flu since having the sleeve and what did you do to stay hydrated and get over it quickly?? Sprite is usually my go to when I have the flu but that's obviously not an option!! Any advice???

Medicare, Medicad Approval? Has Anyone Been Approved?
babygirl_sandy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone so today I had my psych and Nutritional evaluation and was told it was going to take two Weeks to get their reports.. Has anyone gotten it sooner? Then they would submit to the insurance company.. Now my question to the nurse was " will Medicare and medicad cover my sleeve surgery and she said "no not yet but there are talks going on" ok so I took and called medicare since its my primary and the operator stated "if the procedures that are on the list are not medically your match then the provider "surgeon" has to call and explain for approval.. Has anyone run into this cause I really am not medically compatible with any other wls other than the sleeve.. ?? Sent from my SPH-D710 using VST -
Desperate: any ppl 5 years out?!
PdxMan replied to Kateness777's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am coming up on 3 years and I agree with what M2G wrote. Here is how I see it, and would respond to your mother. No, there is no guarantee that I won't regain weight 5 years down the road. I can pretty much tell you that I'm sure I will regain some. I have been maintaining at my goal weight for 2 years now and I know the only reason I would gain would be because of decisions I made to not live a healthy lifestyle. The fault would not lay with the sleeve procedure. So, what is different about that now than life pre-sleeve? Now, I have a tool which gives me the restriction and a constant little reminder of what I need to do. For me, I needed to get over the initial hurdle of being morbidly obese and begin to adopt a healthier relationship with food. The sleeve has allowed me to do this. I could have done another WLS besides VSG, but after researching and soul searching, VSG offered what I was looking for. So, no, there are no guarantees. But what I do know is my history of dieting and regain. I needed to break the cycle. Another thing I also know is that if I didn't do something, I was on a quick track to death. With morbid obesity, health issues only worsen with one inevitable outcome. -
I can't believe it happened so fast. Paperwork was submitted on Monday (9/21) and Aetna called my doctor to tell them I was approved first thing this morning. I was told it would take 2-6 weeks for approval. I've got a EGD scheduled for Oct. 7th and my surgery is bright and early on Oct. 20th. Just about 3 weeks away. WOW! And as an extra bonus, I've already spent my deductible so everything else is free to me (as long as everyone is in network). This whole experience has been unexpected. I was laid off on April 15th. (I know - perfect day for that!) and then got a job a week later. I knew the benefits were way better than I've had before but I didn't expect WLS to be approved. This company is very pro-employee wellness. The job is 1/10th the stress I had before. I never thought that being laid off would be a good thing, but for once it was.

My sleeve was done this last June and since then I've had to deal with kidney stones 3 times. Does anyone know or experience this being due to the sleeve? I've had 3 surgeries to blast huge ones and I'm hoping I don't have to continue fighting these

I can't imagine how I won't starve....protein shakes and one meal week one. Week two all liquid. OMG. I'm already wondering if grapes or watermelon are really just " chewy liquid".

go back to liquid for a few days. that's one of those "too full" signs. you might need to heal more before you can tolerate purees. it was several weeks for me.
