    Before Surgery 3

    From the album: Before Surgery

In this picture, I was at 278lbs standing 5'7" tall.
  3. I understand going home with a drainage tube for a week isnt unusual, however I have a co worker who had an infection to develop due to it. Has anyone else heard of this
  4. I was banded June 20 2011 by dr Reilly at true results in Houston. I went for pre-op, surgery, and now go monthly for fills. I've only seen the doctor during Pre-op and surgery but not since, only the nurse and/or PA for fills. I'm at 4.9 cc so far and hoping that my visit next week gets me closer to the green zone. Plan on going at least every 4-6 weeks post op. And make your fill appointments in advance! They only stay late on thursdays and those spots after 3:00 fill up fast! I already have my November appointment and will make my December appointment this week when I go. Good luck, keep me posted!!

    Sept Surgery Date?

I am embarrassed to say my wt but I have posted it all over so my start or highest wt is 448 I am 5 ft 71/2 inches tall which makes my bmi 70. I was a little less when I started this process but started a goodbye to food binge that had me gain to my highest wt. I have since started a data entry of all I eat on myfitnesspal that helped me lose 8 lbs. I then did 3 days of optifast and now I am doing low carb meat - protein veggies fruit and no " white" refined sugar, potato , and pasta. I am required to do two weeks of optifast pre op.

    Sept Surgery Date?

I also have my surgery scheduled for September. September 25, 2012. I started my journey April with a seminar. First dr appt with Bluepoint medical group dr Moazzaz april12. Started my three months of classes 4/24 because traffic was so bad I missed my 1st appt the 20th. I had some complications with my appointment schedule because the regular scheduler was out on maternity leave. I was very upset with the office staff but they made it up to me on my final weigh in. I got my " second" md/np appt that very day and they gave me a surgery date of sept 25. That was July 24 2 days before my 51st bday. I actually do not have official insurance approval but they are confident they will get it this week. My doctor wants me to lose 45 lbs before my surgery day so I started seriously getting a handle on my eating by data entering everything I eat in myfitnesspal. Then I did a few days of optifast last week to jump start my low carb diet. Now I am low carb only no sweets. I have lost 8 lbs but I do not have a scale that can weigh me so I don't know if I have lost anymore. Will drop by my drs office and use their scale Monday. So let's start a september surgery group. Anyone else interested?

    Pre Op diet

Has anyone only had 3 days of shakes/diet before there banding? I've only been given 3 days notice and am a bit worried my liver may not have shrunk enough by the time the op comes

    New To All This.

I returned to work 2 Weeks exactly after surgery...my recovery had been awesome. Good luck

    Pre Op diet

As long as your doctor is alright with it, I wouldn't worry about it. Some people have 0 days of pre-op diet. So if your doc says that 3 days is enough, don't stress it! Good luck!!!
  11. You got this @Frankin Texas how exciting! I can't wait to be there soon too, I'm only about 2 to 3 weeks behind you I think. All of you who are starting your 2 week liquid diet I am keeping you in my thoughts and prays it will become easy for you to master
  12. I'm so excited! I meet with the surgeon on May 20th to set a date...I'm praying for the first week of July!

    Blood Work & Fatty Liver

My Surgeon orders a routine sonogram as part of the lab work prior to surgery. They told me that a Sonogram would detect a fatty liver. It was explained to me that the liver is a very fragile organ that bleeds easily. It is lifted and manipulated during the procedure and they need to know if it is fatty. Regardless, the liquid diet is to shrink the liver and make it as firm as possible for surgery for the safest procedure possible. This is why all of my Surgeon's patients remain on a 2 week liquid diet before surgery.

    Pre-Op Diet...friend Or Foe

I say lucky you! I had to do a week. It was hard.
  15. I went to one last week. I imagine that they are all a little different, but mine went like this. They start out by going through the process and the things that you would need to do and the appointments that you would need to make and complete. The surgeon spoke the whole time, he did a slide show and went through the history of weight loss surgery and how it has evolved over time. Then he covered the two different surgeries that their office offers and the benefits and downfalls of both. They gave time to ask questions at the end, but it wasn't a requirement to have to speak at all

    4 weeks post op..and I am smiling

    From the album: My Progress

  17. FTP is right. Moving in that direction is all that matters. I get so pissed some days when I know I've made the right choices and I see no results. For days. Or even weeks. I try to keep in mind that my doctor's nutritionist says that 4 lbs per month is what to expect in general. You're losing almost double that on average. I struggle with that number. Seems like it should be more. Don't beat yourself up for what you consider Halloween mistakes. Keep at it.
  18. My 1st week of pre-op consisted of 3oz lean meat and 1/2 cup veggie and that is all besides 2 protein shakes and water for the rest of the day. I don't think it will kill you to have a little yogurt, the doctor just watch the amount of carbs...the high protein diet is used to shrink your liver for surgery, making it easier for the doctor to perform the surgery. As my dietician stated, "the pre-op diet is not just to torture us". LOL Good Luck with everything!
  19. I have UHC Community Plan through Maryland Medicaid. I was approved in 3 days and had my surgery 2/5/14...... I had no copay, Nothing. Call UHC and see what there requirements are. Mine was one year of therapy of some sort but i only did 6 months.
  20. Finally, my consult was today. I have been a little blue lately; my boyfriend and I of 6 years are currently broken up, I haven't been going to class 100% of the time, and I have been spending a lot of time in bed - having trouble getting up and going to the store even. Well today I had the consult I have been waiting months and months for. The doctor was amazing, he didn't talk like "you can be a size 6/8, you will be." He was like..."We can get to you probably a 6/8, 155, does that sound good to you?" UH YEAH! I just remembered I really have something exciting to look forward to, thta this state I am in is just temporary and I am about to do something that will get me out of this slump. So happy. I knew it would help, but I've just been on waiting lists, it's been hard to accept it. He said they'd call in 2-3 weeks and let me know if I am approved through my insurance!! More of a waiting game, but I hope this cloud 9 lasts. Hope everyone is well.
  21. My dr put me on the 2 week pre-op mostly liquid diet, and asked that I try to lose 10 lbs before surgery. Well after 3 days I've lost about 7.5 lbs. I'm fairly close to the 40 BMI cutoff (I only had 15 lbs before going under 40) and am afraid that if I go under the 40 BMI that insurance won't cover the procedure. Has anyone run into this? I have BCBS of MA if that matters.
  22. Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Carrie and I am 27 and live in Wyoming with my amazing hubby and two fur kids. I have been obese since I was about 12 and my highest weight was 369lbs in 2008, I am down to 272lbs thru diet and exercise and am getting my lap band next month by Dr. Holloway in Scottsbluff, NE. Can't believe it's actually happening!! I have BCBS Illinois and was approved in 3 days after submitting my paperwork. Looking forward to getting to know y'all!
