    Protein bars

Anyone know how far out u have to be to eat them? I'm 4 weeks post op and I wanted to try a pure protein chocolate bar to see if that would help with my protein intake but I'm scared. And my drs nut won't return my calls.
  2. I did worry about losing too much as it was still coming off relatively easily when I reached my goal range, (140-150, I'm 5'6"). I reached the zone in about 9 months and then adjusted my calorie intake to my BMR + exercise calories, (I'm pretty active). I wear a Garmin Vivo fit to accurately track my activity. Worked like a charm! I maintained about 145 for 3 months then went on vacay and put on 5 pounds in 4 days. I took it off immediately, but decided I needed a bit more wiggle room so I've adjusted my goal range down to 130-140 pounds, hoping to stick in the sweet spot of 135. I've been in a size 4 for a while. I'll be at the new sweet spot in 5 pounds. Just hoping I don't have to replace my expensive denim! Adjusting your calories up isn't that hard. Add in some full fat dairy, enjoy avocados, Peanut Butter and bananas, throw in an extra higher calorie Protein bar. I CAN say that one week of being "sick" can cause a quick loss that is a little shocking once you're in maintenance. I fought with a GI bug for about 10 days recently and it definitely helped shove me along toward my new goal.

    Am I crazy?

As long as you are confident that you can stick to it for that long. 2 weeks is a long time as it is. If u cannot stick to it and end up going off plan right before your surgery, that is not good. The important thing about the liquid diet is that is meant to shrink your liver so it can easily be moved out of the way during surgery. If you feel like you can stay completely on that liquid diet for 3 weeks then it could definately benefit you. Good luck!

    I don't like meat

I really don't like meat or eggs. I never have. After being being sleeved I dislike meat even more. That being said I don't know how to get my protein in. Cottage Cheese and Yogurt are tolerable, but boy that gets boring. I have refried nonfat beans almost everyday, and protein shakes. I am almost 4 weeks out & starting "real" food. Any suggestions? Have any of you tried quinoa after being sleeved?

    I need some help!!!

Are you someplace cold? I COMPLETELY get what you're saying. I'm in Michigan and I really, truly believe the weather is getting the best of me. I've been in maintenance for four months--well, closer to five now actually, except for a little dip down into the 160's a couple weeks ago--and I just can not get my head back in the right place and stay there. All I want to do is sit in the computer room next to the space heater, or stay under a blanket. It's all I can do to make myself get up and do the dishes, let alone change into little clothes and go to the cold basement to get on the treadmill!! LOL... It's frustrating being so close to goal. The good news is that I have absolutely NO doubt that I'll get there and beyond. I know the weather's not a good excuse, but I really do think the cold and gray and yuck make it SO hard to get motivated!
  6. Hi everybody, I've been lurking on the boards for so long that I felt it was time to come out of hiding and say how much inspiration you've all given to me without knowing it. You are a great source of information, comfort, and camaraderie -- it feels wonderful to know that I'm not alone. My real name is Michele. I'm originally from St. Louis, MO but I've been living in the Houston area (The Woodlands to be more exact) for 14 years. I'm 49 years old and I have a host of problems that I hope are going to be greatly improved by the surgery -- diabetes, high blood pressure, low thyroid, high cholesterol. Diabetes is the main one. My mom was about 100 lbs. overweight and died when she was 62 from the complications of diabetes. It's taken several of my friends too, and I just don't want to go out that way if I can help it. It's funny, I'm a conservative Republican but I tell everyone "Thank you President Obama!" If it weren't for Obamacare I don't know where I'd be. Because of the PCIP program which is part of the Affordable Care Act, I am able to get insurance and I couldn't afford it previously. I was turned down for other insurance and the Texas Risk Pool insurance was twice as expensive as what I pay for deductibles now. Anyway, my insurance covers bariatric surgery. I had to be on medically supervised weight loss for 6 months, then they approved me. Because of previous surgery I had on my ears this year, I've already met my out of pocket maximum so this surgery is free for me. I have been truly blessed. This past year has been an epic saga trying to get to this point. After doing everything I needed to do for six months and gaining approval for the surgery on the first try, I found out my surgeon was out of network because the medical group he was a part of fell apart and he joined with a new group and my insurance couldn't find him on their network anymore. Finally my insurance suggested that I find a different surgeon so I looked around and found one who has a lot of good reviews online -- and this is going to be my hero - Dr. Dexter Turnquest. My surgery is scheduled for Monday the 19th at 1:00 pm. I'm so excited that it's finally happening yet I'm feeling more nervous and I have more trepidation than I thought I would. My surgeon allows only Clear Liquids for the first week (yep the week of thanksgiving - maybe i can find some turkey broth). Then after that I go on the soft diet. He said he wants his patients eating their Protein, not drinking Liquid Protein, so I'm glad I won't have to be on the Protein Shakes -- I'm sorry, they're mostly awful. I worry what it's going to be like to be at home and not chowing down. I wonder what it's going to be like not to eat certain things, not to eat as much as I used to eat. I wonder if I'll get really depressed because that's been my coping source all these years. But I know that God is on my side and He has brought me to this and He'll help me get through it. But I can't help wondering and worrying a little if it's going to be really hard. Can anyone recommend things I should have on hand for that first week when I'm home that I would regret if I didn't get? My friend is going to spend the night with me the night I come home (which will be Tuesday afteroon) but after that I'm mostly going to be on my own sitting in my little apartment. Please let me know if there were things, medicines, food items, that you were really glad you had around. Anyone else live in The Woodlands area? I would love to go to a support group and make some new friends. I think it would help me get out of myself and help me take the focus off ME. There's so much more I could say so I'll just leave it at that for right now -- thanks again to all of you for being here!

    Incision Question

It took a few weeks for my port site to really heal. It itched like crazy while it was healing. Also, at least on me, the port is stitched in where as the other incisions were just skin growing back together. So it makes sense that the port site has more healing to do. I recall feeling pain - nothing major, just niggling occasional pain - for about 4 weeks. (I was up and around pretty quickly too. Happy healing!!)
  8. Yes, I am feeling great! 30 lbs down since 9-15-09. Still getting use to eating. LOL. Still not able to eat much but I am supplementing with my Protein drinks. My emotions are back to normal (that didnt take long) since im only like 3 weeks out now. I enjoy watching the scale go down. Im almost in ONDERLAND.....I am so excited about that! You will be fine, just think of how good you will fine when the scale starts moving downward! Keep me posted on your progress!

    question please

I'll be 4 weeks out on Tuesday & I haven't tried an egg yet....but I can tell you what I've been able to eat, to see if our eating coincides? I've had chicken nuggets...can only eat 2. I have eaten pieces of cut up grilled chicken breast (bought at costco, already cooked, just need heating), & I can only eat 4 pieces of the cut up chicken & I had a 1/3 cup of over cooked cauliflower. I made a grilled ham & cheese for my son & he couldn't finish his sandwich & since I had nothing prepared for my lunch, I ate the 1/4 remaining of his sandwich & I was stuffed. I can eat 1 whole greek yogurt, or a 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes, 1 package of cream of wheat, or 1 package of oatmeal (& in both I mix in about 3 tablespoons of no sugar added apple sauce for flavor.) So how does that sound in comparison to what you can eat?

    So what's your fill at??

Hi I was just wondering what everyones fills are at, that are at their sweet spot. I had surgery 6 weeks ago and I have a 10cc band. I have a 3.5 cc fill and Still not filling up as much as I would like to. I am getting a fill in 3 more weeks. So just wondering how much and how big your bands are. Thanks..
  13. katbabie34

Who gets 1/8cc in their band? ♪♫?*♪

I really think that I need a smaller fill. Every time I go for a fill I have to go back and get it taken out because of getting sick. He usually puts in 1cc. The last time I had a fill was 8/27/10 and he had to take it out the following two days. Yesterday I got .5cc and felt fine. I drank water in his office. Now today I have only drank two sips of water and have already gotten sick three times. I am so frustrated because I am not losing but I think next time I will ask him to only put in a small amount.

    My new beginning

Hi I'm Dina and Tuesday I will be 6 weeks post-op... ( The hard stomach might be due to the gas they pumped into your stomach for surgery so yeah for the burps. I had pain and nausea until he removed my 'bomb' aka drip bag on day 2. For the first month I took Prilosec (not sure of spelling) to help with the stomach acids. Remember no straws for 6 months, don't talk for 15 seconds after your take your sips that adds air to you stomach. You should be on Clear Liquids still only what you can see through like Jello, broth, Water. everything should be room temperature not hot or cold. When you have it removed like I read on here take a deep breath and it will be gone, matter of fact take a deep breath close your eyes and it'll be out. Make sure you are walking every hour,,,walk, walk, walk as my Dr. always said... Make sure you keep notes and take them to the Dr with you so you don't forget

    Day 3 post op

I was sleeved on 1/28/13 and was in so much I didn't think I would ever feel relief but here I am just shy of 2 weeks out and I feel so much better. I promise each day it gets better. Just hold on!!
  16. Ashlegal

    So hungry yet so scared.

@@toasty I hate that there is a discrepancy among doctors when detailing post-op diet. Just like with pre-op dieting. Trying to filter through the information can be confusing, difficult and frustrating. I have known several people who didn't have a pureed food phase. They were given the okay to have deli meats (lean), flaky fish and even shredded chicken breast at two weeks post-op. In fact a couple of the girls I follow on Youtube talk about their diets the first 2-4 weeks and they talked about having grilled chicken and sliced deli meat with soft cheese spread. Ugh, I am so confused! On my sheet is specifically details that at days 8&9 I can have thinned cottage cheese, strained cream Soups, yogurt. Then starting on day ten I begin my Bariatric SOFT Protein diet. Then that is all my diet can consist of for almost three weeks before starting the Bariatric Regular Diet. Which would add fruits, vegetables to the already soft protein diet. Does any of this even make sense? Or am I just hungry?

    Glass Of Wine

Is it okay to have a glass of wine at an event at eight weeks out? I am also putting a call into my surgeon, because I didn't see anything about this topic in thier documentation.

    No rice or pizza

I ate some rice at 5 weeks, but what helped me was to blenderize it with some sauce (chicken curry, in my case). Eating at work is really hard for me. I bring yogurt or string cheese. It takes me to long to eat, and I don't really want my co-workers asking questions. I also bring a Protein drink--Rockin' Refuel. Hope everything works out when you return to work! Shari

    Buddy And Mentor

Well I'm going to be 19 in a few weeks. This is going to be the start of my new life.. I know that I am young, but I have always been the big girl.. I am 5'7 and weigh 292 now, So on July 30th I will be sleeved. At first I was going gastric bypass, but my surgeon told me that this was better for a younger person. If anyone one it can be a male/female. I don't care about age or if you are pre op or post op. But I would like to find both a weight loss buddy and a mentor if possible. I live in Connecticut(suckish) Texting is fine though. pleaseeeeeeeeeeee. Love Krissy.

    Munchie Help Needed

Hello, The last couple of days I have had the munchies. This is the first time since my sleeve 23 Jul. I can only eat so much string cheese. I've also munched on pecans and walnuts. I know it is from stress at work and completing my degree...finally. Drinking Water doesn't help. My first reaction was to purchase grapes but those are high in carbs. I also purchased a box of Atkins snack bars but my nut said to stay away from Protein type bars. I'm stall so much and I don't want to regain any of the weight. What do the rest of you do? Thank you
