    Nectar protein?!?

My very favorite is the Fuzzy navel. I have been drinking this for years. I was banded eight years ago drank it then, and now revised in Dec to RNY and drank pre op and post op. It is really great to do something without milk. I love it. At the Vitamin Shoppe you can get single serve size so you can try some different flavors before you commit to the big barrel (just kidding but they do seem huge) also BJ Baratirics have single serve available on line and they have great service very quick and inepensived shipping. I love them.

    Calcium replacement

Was doing some researching into this...and this was like the first thing that came up https://www.huffingtonpost.com/lani-simpson-dc-ccd/calcium-heart-attacks_b_1553873.html Digging a little deeper, I think the recommendation is for Sleeve patients only, given the issues Sleeved folks have with acid production, it would make sense that using an acid reducing calcium carbonate would be a decent idea, however in bypass patients, with the stomach coming in later to our tracts, it might not be such a smart idea.

    Not enough vitamins?

My doctor follows the ASMBS guidelines and tends to be very cautious.I was already taking Biotin because I am menopausal. I currently take the multi, Calcium citrate+D, D3, B12 sublingual. I didn't have to take the Iron. I just got back my 3 mths blood work and everything was fine except my B12 was a little high. Not everyone takes these because not every doctor follows the ASMBS guidelines. From what I understand it's questionable as to whether sleeve experience the same absorption issues as bypass patients and really need those supplements.
  4. I am just about 3 weeks post op gastric bypass and looking for more ideas of pureed foods. I am so tired of eggs, refried beans and yogurt. I'm going to try the ricotta bake and smoothies tomorrow, but still need a few ideas to keep it interesting. Can't tolerate tofu or fat free gravy and not allowed to have meat yet. Thanks in advance Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Vitamin Choices

OP - note that if you're a bypass patient, you'll probably be required to take calcium citrate instead of calcium carbonate (Viactive is carbonate)

Well, I Lost my band last week

im so sorry about what happened to you. maybe after you are completely recovered maybe you can talk about the bypass maybe better for you instead of the band? is that possibility for you?

    Not enough vitamins?

You take exactly what I take and I just got my 3 month labs and everything looked great. I don't take 2x the Multivitamin. My doctor said that's a requirement for bypass but we should be okay with one.
  8. Nope I have a band that I am getting removed and being sleeved tomorrow. I have trouble absorbing Vitamins unrelated to WLS. My body is just weird. I had to have an Iron infusion almost two months ago bc my iron got so low. I was commenting on why I chose the sleeve over gastric bypass. I don't want to have my intestines rerouted and have malnutrition problems more than you would have with the sleeve.
  9. Who was a band to sleeve revision patient? I am having this done in 11 days and would appreciate it if you would share your experiences.
  10. Thank you! The time will go by super fast, before you know it you’ll be at 3 months. I feel like I’m a rather slow loser which is usually the case as a revision vs a first time wls patient. But as long as it’s still coming off it then it’s all good. Good luck to you, I’m sure you’ll hit 180-190 in no time [emoji4]
  11. Congrats. I'm a band to bypass revision scheduled for March 21. It's nice to see you are doing well. I have the same issues with photos and look forward to lots more family photos with me actually in them.

    Surgery today and pic

I am one year out from facial plastic surgery on December 12, 2013. Today I had a tuck up and chemical peel and scar revision. I am super happy that Dr. Winslow had enough of my SMAS to augment my lips. Hopefully this means no more lips injections for filler because the really hurt! Although the lips are hurting now that all the drugs are wearing off. My lips are a bit duck like now but Dr. Winslow says that will be gone in a week or so. I just got off the phone with her. It is so very nice that she calls after surgery to see how you are doing and if you have any questions. I do not have any pain but my lips. And I cannot eat or drink anything without some of it coming out of my mouth. It is pretty funny. I have to wear a bib. I cannot stay awake owing to the pain killers. I have such a lower resistance to them. As well, I have little memory of surgery today. I fell asleep on the couch curled up in a blanket awaiting them to bring me back to surgery. I recall walking into the OR and Take Me to Church was playing. I recall the nurse having a hard time to find my vein. The next thing I recall is the nurse dressing me and Take Me to Churxh was playing again. The nurse told me it played once during the surgery, too. I wonder if the universe is sending me message? I say this because I have been on a spiritual Quest to find myself. Then I remember being wheeled to the car and my husband driving me home. I went to bed immediately and woke up about 6:30pm. Now I am about to doze off again. I see Dr. Winslow at 8am tomorrow.
  13. It depends on which surgery you had. Bread and Lettuce are going to be hard on your new tummy and staple lines if you have Gastric Bypass (RnY), Sleeve (VSG), or Duodenal Switch (DS), also Bread is full of carbs that you don't need right now and lettuce has no nutritional value. Lap Band as well but it works different, so you'll have to check with your surgeon. You can exercise when your body can tolerate it. Start with walking and build up. It's gonna be a tough road. I found my incisions to be the best indicator for when my exercise was too much.. Stick with soft foods as long as you can. Introduce more solid foods slowly and remember to chew them really well before swallowing. Remember Protein first.
  14. Hi everyone, My name is Amy. I had the band on 8/24/10, I lost almost 50 pounds with the band but never reached my goal because I had a lot of problems. I kept having to have fluid put in and out, I put up with reflux WAY TOO LONG because I didn't want more fluid removed because I was gaining weight. I ended up with an esophageal ulcer and became anemic from it. I had all the fluid removed in early 2017. I am almost back to my pre-surgery weight of 256. I am very unhappy with my weight and it is making me depressed. My insurance recently approved a conversion from band to bypass. I need to wait to build up some time off at work so I am looking at sometime early next year for surgery. Having the surgery makes me nervous but reading your posts here are helpful.
  15. I'm still about a month away from my Gastric Bypass Surgery and am looking at options for vitamins, I'm already on a handful of medications a couple times a day and am not all that excited about throwing a handful of vitamins into the mix. Is anyone using vitamin patches? Are they effective? Seems like an easier option but want to get some input before I buy any.

    Vitamin Patches

What a coincidences I was watching a video about that yesterday, those vitamins patch.. but the lady that was using it still was doing the chewable one as well, cuz she ask and was told that your body doesn’t adsorb as much .. so what she does is .. when she misses a day or something she stick the patch . Or does both cuz she know with “bypass”... what she has ...she doesn’t absorb much either way. I’m getting the chewable ones. Also I found centrum liquid .. which is great too. “There will be obstacles. There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But with hard work, there are no limits.” —Michael Phelps

    Large sleeve!

Goodness why would your surgeon use a 50 French bougie, did you ask him why when you went to your follow up checkup.... Tannak had stomach scar tissue and her surgeon only used a 40 French bougie... Did he tell you why when you confronted him about it ??? because I would be pissed off too... Did he think maybe having a larger sleeve would make it easier to revise to RNY afterwards since he was pushing you towards RNY like my surgeon did until the last minute ??

    Breaking up protein?

I was revised on 9/5 so I'm at a month too. That was an interesting read. I'm kind of middle of the road. Lol. I will start breaking my shakes up. I get Protein primarily from the shakes since. I wonder how it is with shakes when a person is months out?
  19. I really don't think it's that bands are a failure-- it's that its just so easy to get around their restriction. And as overweight people we KNOW ways to get our fix of foods (or I do, anyways)! I KNOW my band can work for me-- I also know that I cheated that puppy for almost 4 years, so I can see their concern. But, I've got friends who went the bypass route who have gained back pretty much all of their weight, so by that reasoning, all WLS is faulty, right?
  20. this sucks

    Question for former banders

I'm almost three weeks out from revision to sleeve from the LapBand. I've started feeling better the last few days but I get tired out pretty quick. I'm 53, which may be part of it. I had a ton on scarring, plus an undiagnosed band slip and prolapse. I also needed a hiatal hernia repair (even though it was fixed when the band was placed). I didn't have too much trouble with swallowing right from the start. I moved to puréed on Monday of this week and so far, so good. I can eat one egg scrambled with some cheese melted in, about 1/4 c. of refried Beans. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. looks like you are newly sleeved. (like a week or so out?). I was lucky because not much scarring. it was why i got a bypass, if there was scarring it would have been a sleeve. I know the first week was pretty tough to get all my liquids in. this is what helped me...warm liquids go down better. with cold I got pain and lots of gas. I was heating everything...that eventually got better and now in week 5 I can drink cold liquids without an issue. I was mostly focusing on getting Protein early on. My plan allowed for 5 meals a day...during the first 2-3 weeks it looked like 5 1/2 cup portions of liquids. warning...when you move to purees1/2cup may be too much. eat until you are satisfied not until you feel stuffed. I tried a hard boiled egg. it was too dense and made me feel uncomfortable so I went back to liquids for a day or 2 until I went back to purees/soft. most important is the Vitamins. I use the PatchMD and started in my pre-op diet. i think those helped immensely with my energy. I'm almost at 6 weeks and feel totally normal now....still keeping my portions small.. 1/2-3/4 cup depending on what it is. Keep in mind everyone is different. eg i know my pouch is double the size of the average bypass patient because the band stretched the stomach.

    Tips for Stopping Caffiene

I also have a six Diet Cokes a day habit, and I think that might be harder for me to quit than some of my favorite foods! I have gastric bypass in February 2019 and am hoping to taper off slowly until then.

    Tricare and the Lap band

ladies- this has been a helpful conversation i found. i was told consider gastric bypass surgery (not the lap band) after 6 months diet, etc. So i thought i might look into a self pay since i have no interest in bypass. but after reading this thread (if i'm reading it right)- i'm lead to believe that they do the lap band at walter reed? do any of you have any info that might help me? I'm very close to WR, but i did not think they did it. thanks! Pattie
  24. @ALotLessMe i'm having sleeve on 12th in London. my mum had bypass last November and is doing great although has rather a cavalier attitude to sticking to the rules and regulations (she's 75 maybe that's part of why). i'm looking forward to it all, worried about mixing work with recovery as i'm not going to take much time off - i have my own business. but it is relatively quiet at the moment so should be okay.
